  1. Cmdr. Desolator reporting in with weekly news. Have gained large support in another community so expect new users to arrive. Hopefully they will join the honorable Epsilon wing ...but time will tell. Cmdr. Desolator signing off.
  2. Just a note, if you want a really REALLY secure box, then install some kind of BSD dist. FreeBSD or OpenBSD are the most secure and stable unix'es I ever used.
  3. Just curious, how many of you have Linux installed and use it on a regular basis? And what Dist do you got? Personally I use both Debian and SuSE 7.2. SuSE for showing new users how to work with Linux (like programming, WM's, and general setup of networks, printers and the like.) and Debian for running a gateway/firewall.
  4. Yes, its the keys that are usually standard movement keys in FPS games like Quake. (Or latheral thrusters in Iwar2
  5. This is a sign that I play BC3K way too much, (or it's proof that I really need to visit that nice sanitarium..) My log-out message at a place: (note that lurking is when you stay at a forum in the background) "*ssCHWOOOOOOO...lurklurklurklurk* Systems?...operational... warplurkcore?...stable...Ok, crew, engage Lurkdrive, take us to deep lurkspace!...yes sir! *KAWOOOOOOMP* .......Sir! We're detecting a large interference with the lurkdrive!! It's kicking us into REALITY! ...well, crew... you knew this would happen sooner or later! Lets boldly go where most of us unfortunately has to go! *skreeeeeeeeeeeeeeechhhhh*......*PLIK*....*Disconnected* now, after I disconnected I booted up BC3K, and what happens... I engage the hyperdrive, and everything crashed... (No, i usually don't type silly messages like that, but it was a special occasion. )
  6. Or just assign Resnig to a shuttle, launch it, and NEVER EVER reclaim it...
  7. I still opt for calling all this for "A Derek Smart Simulation" with the alternative sub-genre: D.S Sim. if you now must have one, since it's not like the other simulations/genres that are out there right now...
  8. System Administration and network admin are two jobs that doesn't require that much of training. Sit down with say..Linux and WinNT for a couple of months, and try out every networking option there is, create a server, try out gatewaying, create sendmail configs, put up firewalls, create accounts that has different settings in access and the like...well, everything you think a company do. (Now WinNT and Win2K is just horrible, but I guess we all got to wait until it dies and Unix/Linux takes over.. muahahaa! ) anyway, all that isn't really hard to grasp, and its a nice job, new experiences every week. and "C++ Primer" (i think its name is that in english.. got the swedish one. : ) is a good C++ book that teaches a lot and is a handy resource.
  9. Then just pretend that the explosion of the ship was so massive that it first vaporized everything then scattered the remains away at very high velocity speeds through the vacuum of space... and in that being uncollectable. (hehe, would've been quite neat if you blew up a ship and had your shields down, a thousand or so bulletholes and static blackness appeared at your mainscreen as the cameras/sensors got hit by the debris...
  10. It's interesting to see this post for me, as it was the first I ever posted here. I was a bit afraid that the Supreme Cmdr should ban me for something I wrote that I could have found in the manual or here. (although I read all the manuals as soon as I installed BC3K) And now when I look back, wow.. what a long trip it has been. (Not in earth time though ) I'm even Staff Chief in Prime Fleet, Epsilon wing. Anyway, what I wanted to write here was two things: 1. THANK YOU everyone on this forum for the help I got when I was a real newbie and for all the LMAO's messages you post here. You all got my greatest respect. (and what a relief to find you that you were as loony as I am. ) 2. I always respected the Supreme Cmdr for two things, One was that he made the BC series. The second was that he ran this forum with an iron hand, yet dropping of nice lines in between and I never saw any, ANY gamedeveloper that really gets in touch with his fans. Guess we all are truly loyal to the Supreme Cmdr. I know I am. thats my two credits for my first posting. now you can kill me if you hated what I wrote. *grin*
  11. Alas, the answer is quite simple: A Derek Smart Simulation. That is what BCM is, and should be in the same genre.
  12. Non-WASD RTFM SpaceSim.
  13. Supreme Cmdr, just about everything sucks in comparition to the BattleCruiser Series.
  14. *grins* Maybe I started it but I didn't say "Join Epsilon Wing or DIE!" (but you know, resistance is futile.. "Now before they start in on you, look over the Fleet faq on the 3000ad site, It gives discriptions of all the fleets. Look around, ask questions and don't blindly jump into a fleet" That is what I did, told him to look at the fleet pages to see what fleet he might want to join. And since Prime are pretty open-ended..and since Epsilon recruits... Just showing my interest in getting people into the BCM world..
  15. (This is mostly for fun. There is no disrespect in any way intended. I even own a copy of I-War 2.) Has anyone read the Preview of Independence War 2 at www.avault.com? It's hillariously fun to read, since the reviewer obviously hasn't played a BattleCruiser game. First he says that the universe in the IWar2 game is the largest and most complex one up to date. Um, the BC3K Universe is so much better (as we all know) and larger. And they claim the autopilot is as advanced as the space. Well, the autopilot in IWar2 can do 5-6 things. The autopilot in BC3K can do nearly anything, except giving the commander a Sux Beer. (space truckers joke) And they say that multiplaying will be a blast in IWar2. Well, there isn't a continuing universe that keep ticking as BC:M will have. now someone should put that person infront of a computer with a BC game installed.
  16. Affermative. I asked a new user here if he might be interested in joining a fleet, and said he could have a look at the fleet page. If he then got interested in the Prime fleet, then Epsilon was open for recruitments. Good enough and neutral, or do you want me to approach in a different way?
  17. WhizzKidd, You never thought of joining a fleet? There are several to choose from. You can look them up at the fleet page from the mainpage. And if you get interested in the Prime Fleet, then Epsilon wing is currently recruiting.
  18. Thank you, sir. Order has been performed.
  19. Hehe, true.. But I rather repair things than have to buy new shuttles.
  20. "If those screens don't get me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, I don't know what will!!" I know though. When we finally hold the BCM CD-Rom in our hands, and are about to place it the CD drive for install... Now if this game isn't the greatest ever then I wonder what else could possibly beat it.
  21. Certainly. Anything for the Epsilon wing. And it will be a change from the usual "just join a fleet and nothing more" that I've experienced in other online space sims.
  22. And the answer to the second question is: Did you press the reactor start key? Anyway, since this is your first post, Welcome to the club.
  23. This subject has been posted numerous times on this forum. If you used the SEARCH function you would have found it. But since I am in a good mood today I tell you how: Shut down the power to the Launch controls.
  24. Depends on what a Staff Chief does. But probably I will accept that if it is what I think it is.
  25. Cmdr. Desolator reporting in for duty assignment, sir.
