Happy Birthday Blades! ------------------ Cmdr. Rico 'V_ger' Jansen GCV-de Ruyter Prime fleet Gamma Wing, 16 Squadron Commander 1st Squadron, (The Guarddogs) "... to boldly show, where no one has gone before" [This message has been edited by Rico Jansen (edited 05-17-2000).]

6.000.000.000 ... Yes, I believe it's a bit too large number. Online? I believe it was roughly the number of people living on earth nowadays. This game is a world on it's own, but that would be pushing it. Yes, we cant do much yet about BCM. As it's not there yet. We can only whine, drewl and talk about it now. Though, we did have plans to get (Gamma Wing) squadrons to play FPS (quake1) and spacesim games (XvTie-fighter) in prelude to BCM. To train and get the feel of MP before the frenzy starts. But upto now not much has happend about that yet. I'll take part of the blame. But I'm new to the command/leading business. And every one has there own business in their lives going on too. But we are pretty empty in the ranks. I mean, active people. We're only with a few. ------------------ Cmdr. Ok, here's a question I've never seen answered. Or asked. How are we supposed to be able to repair that (rear) turboshaft? It's not part of the systems lists in LOGISTICS/CRAFTS/BC. How is it repaired? Which systems is it part of? ------------------ Cmdr. Please help! Where I must search for arifacts?
Rico Jansen replied to Aleksey Kichigin's topic in Battlecruiser Series
Don't forget guys! You can also order a patch from v1.0x to v2.08 via the Galcom Store. (See the links on the left as you view Galcom News Network) It's $15, and you get it delivered on a CD-ROM. That would perhaps be an option for you. It would require a little bit more work to get the game working correctly but it sure is something. I hope that helps. ------------------ Cmdr. Heard that enough from your pilots when they're out on duty? Well, you can always gag them, but then you can't hear them when you need to. Incase things go fatally wrong for them. So here's a trick. Throw out a crab mine once in a while when things get quiet in your area and put them on mine sweeping for the time being. That'll keep em happy and busy. But be carefull! These things can bite hard. Though cookies indeed, these little critters. Pilots will have their hands full if they are fresh and new. And unfortunately your pilot won't stop until they finnished it of or they are finnished off. Even when hostilities do break out in the area. You'll have to baby sit them incase 'sh*t hits the fan'. Why Crab mines? Well, they don't bite your BC when you launch them when your BC has forward velocity. Leeches are a pain (to me), you have to go into VTOL HUD/flight-mode to launch them unharmed. Atleast, that's what I learned. Crabs don't seem to do that to me. I usually order my BC to escort a comet or asteroid and launch a crab as not to potentionally harm other traffic. These crabs are meant for target practise only. Hope it works for you, ------------------ Cmdr. SC: So, say in my case yesterday. I can understand it's a tad different than general NPC behavior. But anyway. ... Having given one of my ICs the order to attack my BC (IC without missiles ofcourse, and full BC shields, and NO!!! PTA) because space around Pixan got a little quiet in my game. (captured Pixan that is, BTW) The IC was jousting at me triggerhappy with different approach speeds and angles each time. It tried the whole range from almost deadstop to 1000 distance-per-something all around me. I had the BC deadstop in space and also escorting the comet flying in Pixan's space to give the pilot a little more pain while teasing the BC. Apearantly the pilot or co-pilot doesn't remember anything of what happend during that 'mission' afterwards. So you said. Except that it got tired and hungry of firing at a shield that wouldn't buckle. So my question. Does one of them remember the previous approach versus the current one during the mission. Does it compare, how should I call it?, ... kill probabilities perhaps, based on angles, speeds and perhaps even enemy fire density? (besides, the last one is co-pilots concern, right?) Also, pilots (if I've read enough GBS text, NPCs do not work exactly the same) have a few pre-trained tricks up there sleeve, they learned when you put them trough bootcamp prior to a (patch-) release. Right? Well, that's what I figured anyway. ... Choosing what range of trick it can use is based on how high the DF- or BA-factor is? Would that mean there are 'simple' tactics it uses when it has low such factors and more advanced tactics it may (or is able!?! to) use when it has higher DF and/or BA factors. Maybe those are stuppid questions. But I'm really anxious to get my pilots to exhibit smart moves. I have yet to see their DF and BA skills increase. The game (on a different computer really) is now several weeks old. But no change in them. AI is way up to the 100 but still doesn't seem to make them fight tougher. But they didn't really get to fight much either. I guess they spend more time doing flight-sim in the library then on the job learning. Basically, if I don't watch them they get killed alot. And I've waited too long for the pilot crew to mature to let that happen. So? Any rough guide on how long I should wait for things to change? ------------------ Cmdr. Welcome back Commanders! I didn't sell the station. And it's pretty much in the same way you left it. So. All's fine here. I got my own exams coming up in a week from now. So, I'll HAVE TO relinguish command now. I still have alot to do for it. Not that the Wing/Squadrons interveined with it. ------------------ Cmdr. SC's fingerprint you say??? Ok, now that would change everything. Never even thought about that possibility. I'll have a look first thing when I'm at my dorm again. ... Hmmm? If he put a stamp on the envelope. Would that mean it's also his, you know ... No, just kidding really. It's still available to him if he's interested. With or without a fingerprint of the man. England isn't that far away from here so I'll even take care of shipping. ------------------ Cmdr. I hear somebody is looking for v2.x! Well, I still got the european v2.08 CD the SC sent to me as a "thank you" for finding a (let's rub it in ]:> ) very noticeable bug the beta testers seemed to gleam over. Here is the full story: http://www.bc3000ad.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000379.html I never could get my friends to be interested into it. Too bad, but that's their loss. So, try the demo to see if you like it. And then, if you do, give me a holer at [email protected] It's a burned CD the SC made for me, and not in a fancy box. But it's the gift that counts right? Not the wrapping. You would only need to download the patch to 2.09 and aply it. (No mappak) So, let me know what you think. ------------------ Cmdr. Ok boss. I'll cover for yah. I think Papi means that the SC ruled not allowing any creations of new fleets until further notice. (or BCM get's released or something.) But I don't see how that would apply to a new squadron. Especially of existing Prime fleet. As 'the 2nd' would just be an expansion of the fleet, and under an existing wing. One extra squadron. The 2nd will be under tight Prime Fleet rules. So no chaos could ensue the way I see it. ------------------ Cmdr. Rico 'V_ger' Jansen GCV-de Ruyter Prime fleet Gamma Wing, 16 Squadron Commander 1st Squadron, (The Guarddogs) "... to boldly show, where no one has gone before" P.S. Darn, this weekend is the chat weekend, right? Well, I don't think I can attend. ... @%^#& Again! I have a birthday party of my uncle on Saturday and he lives too far out of town to be home again in time for the chat. Sorry, guys, I can't make it then. The rest of the days are no problem. Happy (belated) Birthday SC! (I hate this school's internet connection. !@#$%^&* ) p.s. Diapers??? Did I miss a special announcement or not? Well, my congratulations if you got to be a dad too. I knew you were gonna be one, just not that you were allready. ------------------ Cmdr. What am I thinking? I got the latest call on the name squadron name. No need to wait for confirmation. Guys of 1st squadron, peek down this post. Please adjust your sigs accordingly. p.s. I made a slight alteration: "The Guarddogs" ------------------ Cmdr. Oops, I noticed. But I didn't think it was the 21st. I remember something about being said 24th. But I could be wrong. ( Nope, indeed it's the 21st) Never the less, I am way overdue. I could come up with an excuse because web-acces was tardy as hell at school. I'm getting up to speed now I'm at my parents comp. But I'm also very guilty of not remembering myself about it. I totally forgot about it. My bad. What would I do without my 'second'. Thanks Remo. I owe you. So I better come up with a name fast. Well I didn't get much response from my squadron members. But I gathered a few names here and there (some that were given here in earlier posts) and will post my decision here. I narrowed it down but I got into the age-old cat&dog-fight about it with my consience. "Guarddogs" or "Hellcats". Wanting the name to be meaningfull yet also not making a cliche out of it. As I hate those things. Considering I heaven't heard anyone complaining about it I choose "Guarddogs". The other ones didn't feel like they carried enough meaning, or the others are too often heard of. But maybe this is just my issue. Ofcourse if Cmdr. Badgerius didn't pick one himself by now! If so, I mean I'm very late with this, we'll take whatever he decides. But I choose for "Guarddogs". Or would that be (Guarddogs)? ------------------ Cmdr. quote:(scavanger and pirates are such ugly and uncouth names That's why they are named Raiders and Mercenaries in BC3K/BCM. (and the other castes I can't come up with that easily) As the rules go, fleets for castes like these are a no go. As Raiders and Mercenaries don't really work in fleet structures. It's not in their nature. But you could form groups. But they are called squadrons here. And they won't be made official. A small group (hand full, I'd say) is as big as you're going to get. BTW, you might want to dig up some threads about the forming of fleet and squadrons, or the discussion about the way MP in BCM/BCOnline had to be. Those were pretty lengthy discussions. And ofcourse the fleet page. Take a look at that FAQ. ------------------ Cmdr. Well, don't worry. I vaguely recall that this chat thing was a bi-weekly thing too. Atleast, so it dawned on me when I got into AW Galcom on the 18th. Totally empty. So I started doing some decorating in my place at the Village ... But I'm still not totally filled in about last week's chat. I guess I need to find that out first. Before I talk about something else. So that brings me to that newsletter idea. Yeah, good idea. Badgerius, I allready emailed you some days ago. Now I know why you didn't reply. No problem. It was kind of a bad email anyway. I basically asked if you knew about people that attended and had a log (or minutes of the session. Because I could not attend. But appearantly you don't have it either. So, anybody that reads this and has something. Please do us all a favor. If you can't, I'll be happy to distribute the log to all other members and our Wing Commander. As for the newsletter, make it a webbased thing for me. Online email box is kinda stuffed. I need to empty it soon, I know. I don't know if I'm supposed to offically report myself active again. Well, in any case, I hereby do. I'm back >Squadron name: >1st Squadron (the Black Death) ... Sounds good to me. >The 1st "Black Death" Squadron ... Aren't we getting into somekind of Galatea/Galatae-thing. I mean a "who's first" issue. Well, maybe not. We have pretty strict rules about formation expansion of fleets and creation of official squadrons is governened from above. (Fleet/Wing staff) So, it's probably no problem. Just to me it sounds like there could be a 1st Black Death, a 2nd Black Death, a 3rd ... and so on. So I like the first. BTW, any other names that people might like for our squadron. People speak up. (note to self: do the same, start crunching mind for names) >2-ship elements... But would that be 2 ships per jump-point or 2 ships per reqion. I know Moon region has just one jumppoint. But I know we can't have every one of this squadron in there. Well, we can, but it'd be a little crowdy. >keping in mind that Genesis has it's own >compliment of 48 combat vessels. ... Yeah, and I do not consider Genesis of very high strategic importance. And it's hiding out very well behind that jump-point bottleneck. Anything that does come through there shouldn't be much of a problem. Ofcourse there are cloaked ships comming thru. But we'll just have to raise the curtain for them. But i'm not the one to think of strategic issues. I'm way down the comand chain to think about that. Anyway, Badgerius, keep this in mind. >are trade routes and defence of these trade >routes going to be a factor in BCM?... Good point. I once asked.. well, it was more like stating hypothesis' and the SC confirming them. I don't really knew when or what thread that was. But it was something in the Delevopment forum I think. But way back. >I'm trying to figure out how supply status >of the space stations will affect the >campaign. For instance...can a blockade be >established against a station or can trade >agreements be made between nations? Well, that was part of it. SC said we could siege a station. Somehow. I'm not really sure how anymore. But the station would use up it's resourses time after time when no ship would dock. So, if we cut off Sygan from the outside world, ... and if we're patient, then we could weaken it down. But ofcourse, shield strength and armor plating doesn't degrade if we don't touch it. Ok, guys, I need to go now. Have to get back to my dorm. Colledge is back on my agenda tomorrow. ------------------ Cmdr. My condolances too. I can understand how you feel. To some extend. I lost my grandad a few days ago, at the age of 75. But your brother at the age of 25. Man, that terrible. My sympathies too. ------------------ Cmdr. Rico 'V_ger' Jansen GCV-de Ruyter Prime fleet Gamma Wing, 16 Commander , 1st Squadron "... to boldly show, where no one has gone before" -
Thanks guys, but I'm ok. And I think my family is too. We've seen this comming for a long time now. Last week he said to us he was very 'tired'. Meaning to say to us he would be happy if he could sleep forever. So he got what he wanted last night. In peace. The doctor didn't even need to grant his request. Nature took it's course. We're happy it happened this way, but letting go is never easy. Thanks for your support, fellas. ------------------ Cmdr. I can live with that. 'Squadron Commander' it is then. A question about the 16 number. Am I supposed to 'number' my members too this way? In the structure proposal of Thomas only 16 was stated. Nothing about numbers of members. Like 15 for my wingman. Or the commander that is suppost to protect the command BC. (second in command) And 11,12,13,14 for the rest. Also, I consider it not neccessary to make the assignment I give to the members of the 1st public. (but I haven't given them one either yet) Meaning, whoever is on flank- or recon- or front-duty is of no (real) concern to the outside world except for the tactical officers higher up our command structure. (when we are on a mission) But this is also something to discuss at the chat next weekend. I think Am I correct on this point? It just from common sense. I have no (real) military service experience in anyway. Is that something that is supposed to be visible (in sig maybe) here too? I'll get on the squadron name ASAP. ------------------ Cmdr. Sorry, Badgerius. I ask for a special leave of absence now. Semi-official. My mom just called from the hospital where my granfather is in. He has cancer since the last year, and is treated as far as posible. The cancer didn't seem to grow back. But he himself became too weak and now he is no more. So, no RP for me at this moment. Despite my earlier ideas about RP-ing, I would have found this an interesting idea. But now I can't really give it much thought. I hope you guys can understand it. ------------------ Cmdr. Shortening? I don't see much of a gain in that. Just 6 characters less. And shortening it to what Thomas wrote down, makes my job look like any other's. Being a "Cmdr.". I'm not trying to put myself above others. But part of a good functioning structure or organisation is knowing "who's what?". Atleast, so I think. So, I suggest the following to make it clearer and shortening it up. (left-right wise) for my case: Gamma fleet, 16 Leader 1st Squadron, "squadron name" (Or the name in round brackets) squadron members: Gamma fleet 1st Squadron, "squadron name" (Or the name in round brackets) I suggest changing to leader for that's what my job is in essence. But this is only so in 'leemans terms' now. (I hope I put that correct there ) It's not an official job title. (officially on the structure pic) But maybe this is something for the big prime fleet structure discusison. I don't want to go off-topic and off-thread. But/And/So, if you say "it's not open to discussion" then i'll shut up and just be a Commander/Cmdr. from now on. ------------------ Cmdr. [semi-RP on]Permission to speek candidly, Sir!?! [semi-RP off] 2nd squadron??? Gamma's 2nd or another wing? 'Cause I'd think it would be a tactically sane (or strategically, ... not sure) thing to do, to populate Galcom and Startpath first before Gamma Wing gets a second squadron. Don't you think? With Insurgents vs. Galcom 2 to 1, I'm worring a bit about our flank(s). Just my 0.02 Galcred ------------------ Cmdr.
