As I'm now (acting) 1st squadron leader, what exactly is my assignment? In your post here above you state this: Gamma Wing, 86 Commander, 8th Squadron (Except for me it's '16 Commander' for 1st squadron.) But in your 'final-but-1st-squadron-under-Alfa-Wing' picture in the 'fleet structure' post I am assigned as "16 Leader". Which one? '16 Commander' doesn't really signal a leading position, as everyone but the highest are a commander by rank. Or the '6' and 'Commander' (of the squadron) make this title sound double (following the staff title mechanism, Sx6='leading man of wing'). And '16 Leader' doesn't really feel right in my mind. But that's just me. What would be with the rest of the squadron. '11 doing-something-in-squadron'? Can't this position just be named '(1st) Squadron Leader'. Sounds flashy enough. As I've seen several different titles in this forum about my position, I am confused by this. I need some clarity to update my sig. ------------------ Cmdr. Well, I never expected to actually make myself get to be a squadron leader. As I don't really know what it entails yet. But I guess it's time for me to learn what it means 'to lead'. Even a MP-newby has to go beyond the call of duty, I guess. So, whatever is expected of me, I intend to do it by the best of my abilities. And I still have time enough to learn this thing. Before BCM comes out. As for our MP practice events. I'm am only able to attend them during the weekends, except for sunday late afternoon and evenings. But I need to get those demos first on friday night next weekend. No need to set a date right now. ------------------ Cmdr. Spacephish: See the report half way down. The highest amount of "user sessions" for the US occured in Vienna, Virginnia. About 15500. So, I wondered if you and Blades were behind this. But I didn't know what an user session actually meant. I thought it was equal to a page hit. But it means, according to the Glossary, the number of individual visitors to the site. Like distinct IPs. So, it's more the recuitement office idea. ------------------ Cmdr. Yikes! 50k hits! 35.5 Gigas! That's a pretty high stack of CD's. almost 64. And you're right about the money. What an increase. Say, Blades and Spacephish? You guys live in Vienna, Virginia?? Or it sounds like we got a recruitement office up there. How many people live up there, anyway? Commanders I mean. ------------------ Cmdr. Hmmm, that logo? Doesn't it look a bit like NATO? I mean, I don't really have a better idea, so I ought to keep my mouth shut. But I'm not really into mosaic logo's. Doesn't really say anything to me. ... Hmm? ... We're stationed at station Genesis at the Moon. We're Gamma wing, Prime fleet. .... Well, I guess you're right. Kinda difficult to find a common denominator symbol for that. Well, just my two cents. BTW? Do we have any special tasks for our wing or squadron? Maybe that could help us find a logo (and maybe motto). As for chat at 6pm GMT. Sound good, I guess. But I'll have to reserve the comp for it. But that usually is not a problem. And Activeworlds shouldn't really prevent it either. But their support dep. and me are in the process of solving a problem with AW on my system. I can chat and move all over like anyone else. But I don't see the nice buildings yet. Texture and stuff doesnt get send over somehow. Just the centerpoint of the objects and the chat text. But no buildings are ignorable, I'm sure. ------------------ Cmdr. Rico 'V_ger' Jansen GCV-de Ruyter Prime fleet Gamma Wing, 1st Squadron "... to boldly show, where no one has gone before"

Geee!?!, ducking away for me!?! I'm honored. But I'm going to keep it anyway. Looks better this way. ------------------ Cmdr. Rico 'V_ger' Jansen GCV-de Ruyter Prime fleet Gamma Wing, 1st Squadron "... to boldly show, where no one has gone before"

My ship's name is in my sig. It's the last name of an (old) Dutch sea admiral. The highest in command then. Time zone? CET (central european time, netherlands), that means GMT+1. ------------------ Cmdr. It's been quiet here for a while. But I knew I would put mine here too once I got one. From where? Well, sounds obvious I guess, ... I just put a little individual twist to it. ------------------ Cmdr. Just testing my new sig. Tell me if there's anything wrong with it . I did my best, but I'm not sure if the wing/squadrong line is ok or not. Still looking for the primefleet directives on this. Did I miss it? ------------------ Cmdr. Ehm, if I wasn't clear enough yet. I'm in for a place inside the squadron level. Not wanting to be a Squadron Commander (yet). I'll start from the bottom. I'll let anyone else have the staff places if they wish too. I don't want to sit in a chair I don't need to use, while somebody else (aspiring written roleplay for now) might. Besides, I'm more a behind-the-scene-person. When I get to know my place in the fleet I'll update (create) my sig. As I don't really mind what wing I'll get into. It makes no real difference to me. As for now, I'll keep just my name. Rico

quote:Also, do shields prevent the beaming of hostiles onto your ship? (That is, I assume, how they get onboard right?). Nope, only cloaking does. It's the way it was intended to be. You'll just have to make sure they can't sneak your crafts away. And keep those marines on their feet. Rico

Ok, again, it seems I'm looking for more resposibility than there is. Maybe when multiplayer get's loose it changes. I guess there aren't that much responsibilities right now. For example, right now, no logistics need to be taken care of. Or is there? I'm asking this because I don't like to sign up for anything I can't proove myself with. I know it's just a game. But you (Thomas) weren't nominated as Fleet Cmdr. for nothing. As I said, it must be more than just a title to your name. I guess I must forgot to say something first. I have never done multiplayer with anygame ever. So, I'm a bit hesitant. I don't know what to expect. Roleplay is nothing for me, sorry, don't have the patience for it. I love to read, but then a book. I wouldn't know what would be expected from me. I guess I have to (sort of want to) wait for BCM to introduce me to the action. Maybe I'll ascend thru the ranks. And peek at what the ones above me are doing. Nevertheless, Prime does need order. I'm not very familiar with military command structures. Maybe that's a signal too. I never needed (and hopefully it stays that way) to do service. I'm more of a scientist commander, I guess. One question though, Thomas? "S", from Sx4, as in "Staffel"? Or something else. Also, Wing designations in the staff places might be less confussing when using the alphabet, SA1,SB1,SC1 for Personnel Officers of Alfa Beta and Gamma wing. Numbers confuse like this. Atleast me. Rico p.s. You want signatures eventhough I don't know what wing or squadron I'm assigned too? [This message has been edited by Rico Jansen (edited 02-18-2000).]

Sorry, 1.01d7c on CD-rom can only be upgraded partially, not totaly up to the curent version. But I can't help you one that as I can't help you with a link to that patch. If you want to play as close to the current version (for free) you can download a 53 meg demo of version 2.08. (non-upgradeable) Or else you have to buy the game in the shop or somewhere online. Have a look at the Galcom Trading Hub for more information of where to get a boxed version. There is no multiplayer yet. So fleets do not really have a meaning in the current game yet. They only exist here to create a little (dis-)order between the commanders. But I'll let the recruitement officers of the fleet tell you more about this. I'm not really good at this. As for your questions: 1: Have another look for certain. There should be a 10% difference between them from the standard price. Though I must say, I don't know about what the pre-v2.00 patches did. So, maybe you are right. Though it should be like that. They should be different. 2: I'll leave that one to someone else too. As long as they get to be dead, I'm ok with it. I don't care where they come from. Rico [This message has been edited by Rico Jansen (edited 02-18-2000).]

Before I sign up for any staff position, I'd like to know about the job discription that goes with it. I have a feeling of what G/Sx1 (personel) or G/Sx5(PR) means for duties. Recruiting from 'wet ears'-newbies for G/Sx1 and website organisation for the G/Sx5 positions. And the G/Sx6 would be in charge of everything I suppose. Or the guy to blame when things go wrong. But what do the other staff places require for activities? Logistics? Tactics? (XO? sorry for asking, but ... meaning what?) These are probably mostly multiplayer based positions, and would be just a title. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to know, as I'm not a RP-er,I want to know what I'm up against. It must be more than just a title behind/infront my name. Rico

quote:Mineral planets will give you a higher %of metallic elements (titanium and such), gas planets will give you stuff like xeon, etc, etc. Duhh!! Now why didn't I think of that. So that's what that Navchart Appendix column was for. Thanks Tac. Rico p.s. The more I play this game and stick around on this site, the more I learn that NOTHING here is "for show and fake". p.s. #2 You beat me to it, SC. Well, I just tried ALT-? to no avail. (Including some other key combinations with ALT in that area) Can't reproduce Galcom turning sides on me. 2.09 if you are curious. And my game is running fine. I wonder what you did to make that happen. Sorry Seabass Rico [This message has been edited by Rico Jansen (edited 02-12-2000).]

[removed description untried idea] Nevermind this post. I put up an unverified idea as a solution earlier. Dropping spareparts on the surface of a planet or moon with a shuttle and then picking them up with your transporter. But the transporter can't beam UP or mine doesn't want to. The tacops transporter button stays red. To bad. Would be a neat solution to your problem. Rico [This message has been edited by Rico Jansen (edited 01-22-2000).]

Fuel perhaps?... Maybe you ran out when trying to jump away from insurgents. The BC soaks up fuel unless it is upgraded. So you might wanna check the fuel gauge in the Logistics/Power page. Make sure you have enough. And secondly, you might have a blown up or a simply damaged enough engine. See if it needs repairs. Rico
