  1. You know what?, it's even pronounceable. Be it a bit celtic language.
  2. Now hear that!!! Didn't know he'd get FC&C when starting that particular career ... and then starts whining he can't order things around other than his own race/caste! What a nerve!
  3. quote:I recently started in trader free flight mode That was your intention, not? Becoming a trader? You don't have any jurisdiction over any of the other races or castes, so they mind their own business. Ofcourse, you have the firepower onboard to teach them otherwise.
  4. Ehm!?!, I think the SC has finally gone crazy. Releasing 2.09 for free! Complete! Not downsized! Complete! Nevertheless, we still all love him for it. Hip, Hip, Hurray!!! for the SC.
  5. I'm sure you'll notice in the very very near future, but check todays GNN and Developers diary. The SC went crazy!!! And we all love him for it.
  6. Well, last check of a second or so ago there are 10 members assigned to Gamma. Including you Badgerius. And there should be 2 squadrons, so we're either pretty low on staff or squadron members ... or both. I'm pretty vague here about it all 'cause I hardly have a clue who's in or out my squad. We had a roll call about a few months ago but it didn't really seem to break orbit, so to speak. I'm only sure of Remo Williams being in 1st. Rest (according to sigs I think, Kirk Stroiker and Amadeus are) seems to be 'a wall'. Or not posting recently where I looked. Badgerius, I'm not sure if you have the ability to change certain stuff in the fleet database. But could you add a notion in every (squadron)member's comm-log to which squadron he belongs to. Right now it only tells if members are part of Gamma or not. Nothing about squadron membership.
  7. You were playing an ACM mission in free-flight disguise. It was infact a GBS script that set your career to terran/trader and transported a character by the name of Karl Reines onboard. In effect giving you FC&C over terran/trader 'forces'. It is very well possible the SC made this script to transport Karl when GHQ detected you, instead of Starpath. As one of the very first FC&C goodies the SC gave us we had to jump to Mars to get Karl. I think Jaguar was thinking of this one. You probably have a later version or something. Nothing wrong here. Just a tad different. To use FC&C you need to point your cursor over the (terran/trader) ship/station in question and then click your mouse. (guessing left, ... or right ... No!, left it is) You should get an order-selection menu or something. You can only order stations/ships of your own race and caste.
  8. quote:heh, he probably meant, TMCD Hey, wha'da'ya know! There's a sign in front of me that says "Nearest airlock, 50 meters (left arrow)".
  9. You are right, no mail links. But I think you can mail to [email protected] for inquiries. (Or to [email protected] if that doesn't work.) [ 07-16-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  10. (sticks his head into the Ops room) Ehm, I didn't think he was refering to you, BCFreak13. IIRC there is a commander named Max, a staffmember I think. If I read correctly you are commander Maddox.
  11. quote:The TCMD is the "Trans-matrix Cloaking device". It's an artifact. Read about it. Seriously doubt it. I'll say at first I don't know for sure, as I never had the thing onboard myself, but the sequence of characters don't comply to the word "Trans-Matrix Cloaking Device". My guess is that he got to the rank (in-game, not online) of Tacops Commander without knowing. That would make sense together with him saying he nuked the Gams into self-illuminating Garden Gnomes. Those OTS' are real EP uppers. Especially since he's doing free-flight, he can't have found artifacts. But then there's cheat #6 ofcourse. [ 07-16-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  12. ROFLMSAO too!!! All to familiar. Especially the "Splash dump" My parents house contains a toilet seat specially made to provide this one.
  13. quote:Anyone having time problems in this mission should try the Flux fields Appearantly my IQ is less than or equal to that of my Nav officer. I know AI can't or don't go through fluxfield, but I should have considered that myself. Duhh!! Back to being a newby again.
  14. quote: ... screwing around with the BCM Universe environment can be likened to a bull in a china shop - aka disaster waiting to happen. I remember a post here in the GBS section, from SpcFX if I'm not mistaken, quite some time ago (years). Where he was fooling around with damage factors of some type of missile, to make the motherF*-of-all missiles. Appearantly he was succesfull with it, because when he got the game running, one of those missiles was launched by an NPC and very deliberatly heading up his tailpipe, curring him from any constipation problems he might have had. The lesson to be learned here is that whatever you change/tweek to the game world in expected favor of your alterego, can and/or will be used against you. Ending with a very famous quote... quote:You have been warned! [ 06-21-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  15. I've been there for the past hours. Finaly payed the electricity bill to AW. So Gamma Wing HQ has lightbulbs now. Yippee!!! Gamma Wing HQ was quite dark when you walked in there the past year. But not anymore. Also been working on my hideout. (961.3N 888.6E 0.0a 44) I also put a screen linking to 2 Amsterdam webcams. Dam square and Vondel park to be exact. If you want to, you can set the update period to 3 settings (for Dam square). And my office has an uplink to this forum.
  16. Understandable line of thought, but if there is one specifically for a demo, ... And besides that, the demo is essentially unsupported. So no need to be here. It's nothing major, we just like to keep things nice and tiddy organised in here.
  17. First, demo things should go in the demo forum instead of here. In there you should also be able to find info on the exact solution to your problem. But in short you can pretty much make your own shortcut to BCM.exe manualy and later add the "/d1" yourself. [ 06-16-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  18. quote:Methinks "The Last Outpost" is the bar. Like the "Ten-Forward" in ST:TNG. Nah... probably one of the airlocks which the SC gave a fancy name to, to lure us there. Yes, it is. [ 12-25-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  19. quote:Second Why fleet C&C not working in all mission - when it MUST present? It's working only once - at first mission with fleet C&C (Zerin capturing) Why? Karl Reins sitting on my Board (in BAR with girls - as I pressumed!) And don't leave the the ship as it happend in 'Zerin' mission... When I've got the error? What exact title has Karl (in Perscan) in the ACM part where you expect him to give you FC&C and he doesn't? I'm betting on "SC Karl Reines". I made a post in the GBS section quite some time ago that explaines why. Named "SC Karl Reines alter ego" or something. My fix was adding the character "Karl Reines" to a savegame by playmod, or earning EPs at lightspeed. You choose the most practical of the two. [ 06-15-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  20. quote:since marines are obviously expendable. NO!, NO!, NO! Marines are not the ones that were expendable. Our Combat Officer Paul Resnig is.
  21. This clarifies the career part a bit. As a commander you rack up experience point (when you are a good boyscout) which eventually gives you fleet command and control, but for the other careers I can't remember what it was good for.p.s. Perhaps this topic should have gone in the general forum. As far as I know, this one is still intended for BC3K. BCM is not gold yet
  22. You will be happy to know that your marines got 10 years closer to grandmotherhood in BCM. And it shows. [ 06-04-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  23. I don't know. Shopping mall cart? Wheel barrow?
  24. I have the first verison of XBTF and am interested in buying the upgrade xtension. But cash is low, and comp power low. So it might take a while. So I don't know much about the upgrade, other than the website info. Have hardly a clue about how the OU plays. As for comparing BCM and XBTF/Xtension. BCM is geared toward military command, eventhough you can also play as a pacifist trader dealing in frozen fruits or as a medic under police/galcom protection. Where it is likely someone having a weapon pointing at you instead of holding it yourself. When in command you're not just flying a ship, you're flying a ship with crew to be commanded. You're in charge! And the ultimate to blame. And BCM has a whole planet side to add to gameplay. (as did bc3k from the beggining years ago) If you get spacesick every now and then you get ease your stumach on solid ground and stirr up stuff there. If you love launch and re-entry you could play shuttle pilot running errands between stations and bases. The whole idea about X is based around trading and building a trade empire/corporation. Still you can build a fleet or fighters and defend or 'actively expand' your market territory. XBTF had a plot/adventure, not sure if xtension had it too, but probably. Anyway, your job was to find a way to get home again after you got warped into unknown part of space. (I'm not that far yet) So basically you can build a trade empire and pretty much forget about the plot or you are inclined to follow the plot and make use of trading to provide what you need. (But xtension does give you the chance to change primary crafts) All in all, I think BCM gives you more freedom in that you can play into ROAM mode (former freeflight), or follow a script(a possibly very dynamic one) and still have the choice to continue following it. BCM gives you less freedom, in that certain race/caste NPC will throw mud at you from time to time, just because you're not on their side. Which is also dynamic as wars between races get started and resolved on and on beyond your knowledge. You're either in it or you aren't. X(BTF), you sort of know what's going on in the universe. Teladi just want to trade, so they're not making enemies, Paranid and Split don't like you from the beginning, same for Argon but they're a tad bit more friendly to start with. Borons are friendly and if you don't get bad yourself they are friends too. And all species get friendlier to you when you kill pirates. Xenons are same as the Gammulans. No peace talks with them, except through a gun barrel. And unless you do something about it, status quo stays that way. A tad boring to me. I realize my knowledge about the X universe is limmited to XBTF, so I may be wrong here about a few things. And I've only seen the first demo of BCM and playing all the lastest versions of BC3K since v2 as they came, apart from hanging around on this forum alot. (ok, more like lurking) My opinion is BCM and X are two different things. One's about trading, the other about command and career. I like both. But I need something in the game that gives me a rough time, keep me busy and provide setbacks. As far as I know X doesn't do the job good enough. Still, getting rich by building an expandable space corporation is an interesting way of live. But as I said, I need the chance of bankruptcy. As for online universe, egosoft's online-universe.net is not in (open)beta yet, 3000AD's online universe Galactic Command Online (GCO) is in partial development from what I've heard the past months (but it shares code or engines with BCM) and wont see beta until next year or so. So it's difficult to tell what it will be like. Though both have a FAQ (online-universe.net FAQ and GCO FAQ), and to me GCO seems to have more freedom. OU.net is still about a trading career. GCO seems to go towards exploration/pioneering but still free in a military command career. This is the analysis I make from it. If I'm wrong at something feel free to re-educate me. 25. Yes, the battlecruiser manual was only talking about one kind of carreer. That's because it is really the manual of version 2. Because there is no BCM manual yet, the SC snuck this one in so you can get a feel of what most of the systems are suppost to do, and what the whole idea behind the battlecruiser series is. It doesn't cover the new things in BCM, but it should suit for this demo. The SC said he will or has contracted a person to make the manual and/or a strategy guide. But ofcourse that isn't ready yet until after the game is gold. If you read the readme file (the one with the links to download sites an all) at the bottom you will see there will be several career modes, first demo only has you being a commander in space, the second demo will have you flying a fighter(planet and space) or shuttle craft(planet only), and IIRC the 3rd gets you to do the dirty work in the mud being a marine. If I don't R(emember)C(orrectly), check that file yourself please. In the full BCM game you will have the full choice between these carreer modes. (commander, fighter/shuttle pilot, marine) But reason this demo left the other careers out are because of size. Hope this clarifies enough for you
