Performance drop after 1.00.04 patch
Supreme Cmdr replied to nasos073's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
You might want to run winMSD as well and send me the exported output file to [email protected] so that I can go trolling through it. -
...please Lord, don't stop the madness. I don't buy video cards.

Considering the number of units sold to date, I was expecting this thread to be larger by now. Lazy gits!!!

Performance drop after 1.00.04 patch

Yeah, thats what I was thinking too actually!! Anyway, on a 2.8GHz machine, on the main menu with no music, the game takes 12-15% of the CPU. With music, it takes about the same. There's definitely something going on. Did you do ANY SW/HW upgrades recently? At least since the 1.00.04 patch? Also, use the method described in that thread that Wolfheart pointed out and try the 1.00.05 and 1.00.06 patches as well and see if they produce the same results. Remember that the Updater will download all patches to the game folder. So, you don't need to re-download them. You can just apply them on top of each other. To go back to the latest 1.00.07, be sure to edit the SETTINGS.INI file or you won't be able to grab the next patch (e.g. 1.00.08). -

UCG has an Updater which checks the server for updates. If an update is found, it will download it for you, copy it to the game folder and run it. The downloaded patch file will remain in the game folder. If no patch is found - or if you already have the current version - the Updater will just quit. Note that the Updater will ONLY download officially released patches. If you want to re-download a patch e.g. if the same patch version was re-issued (e.g. due to mishap, missing files etc). Open up the SETTINGS.INI file (in the game runtime folder) in Notepad and edit the version= line to the previous version. e.g. If you updated to 1.00.02 and that same patch was re-issued. You need to delete the patch file (e.g. ucAWA_1.00.02.exe), then change version = 1.00.02 to version = 1.00.01. When you run Updater again, it will re-download the 1.00.02 patch. NOTE: All e-commerce versions of the game, use various DRM based copy protection schemes. For this reason, each requires its own unique patch. e.g. you cannot download the patch for a version of the game that uses Starforce ProActive (e.g. BMT Micro) for your TryMedia purchase (which uses their own ActiveMark DRM scheme). For this reason, each version of the game has a unique game Updater settings which will download the correct patch if available on our servers. When patches are released, they are released for all versions of the game. So, if you go and [manually] download a StarForce patch version and install on your ActiveMark DRM version, you won't be able to run the game.

Performance drop after 1.00.04 patch

It could be the source of the problem, but only if that is the same sound card he has running 1.00.04 and 1.00.07 on. The only way to figure that out, is through testing with the same conditions, drivers etc. It could also be that the Starforce protection makes the game run slower under certain conditions on his machine. This is probably unlikely since the same protection was used on both of those game versions. [ 10-05-2005, 09:16 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -
Problem with preloading 3d models
Supreme Cmdr replied to a topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
The machine I have that enabled on, only has 1GB of memory. And it works just fine. If there is a problem, you need to run the game in a window and see where it fails. Basically, it takes FOREVER to load the game with preloading on. And it takes half a long to quit the game (since it has to unload everything again). Some people go pissing around with Windows memory manager and then wonder why they run into problems. And the fewer programs you have running, the better of course. -
Performance drop after 1.00.04 patch
Supreme Cmdr replied to nasos073's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
There is nothing in the updates which would impact performance. If you actually looked at the VCF, you'd see the difference in updates. Plus, you have an Audigy2 sound card. Enough said. -
They're in for a nasty battle over her nomination. I for one can't wait for those nekid pics from her college frat parties.

Way to go grandma!! This made LOL! According to the RIAA, the mother had been up at 4:24am downloading gangster rap.

Problem with preloading 3d models
Supreme Cmdr replied to a topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
It works just fine here. Saying rubbish like still doesn't work sure helps a lot. If you don't have the memory for it, DON'T use it. And if you were actually PAYING attention, you would know that there are TWO completely seperate model preload options in UCAWA. -
It was #2 at the box office. Never underestimate the obssessive compulsive nature of fanatics.

God speed soldier. We'll be here when you get back. uhm, at least I think we will.

Money for the masses(for all noobs)
Supreme Cmdr replied to Admiral LB's topic in Universal Combat Series
...I have a question. uhm, what exactly do you folks do with all this money? -
...in other words, its violent as hell. Otherwise I doubt that you'd like it. I was planning on seeing it this past weekend, but opted to see Serenity for a second time instead.

MP clients stuck in hyperspace
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
After much Red herrings, this has been identified and fixed in the 1.00.07 patch. -
Use the game Updater to download and apply the patch. The online VCF has also been updated. NOTE: If this is the FIRST time that you are downloading a patch for this game, and your original CD-ROM is v1.00.01, be sure to download the latest Updater tool before using it. This replaces the original version included in the first release of the game.

Saw it again this afternoon. I plan on seeing it one more time before the - inevitable - Special Edition DVD shows up. Best quote EVAR!!! We're OK. I'm not in control! I hope this makes enough money to warrant a sequel. I'm not hopeful for a revival of the series however. Maybe sci-fi will cancel Andromeda for good and put a new Firefly series in its time slot.
-
Looks like you should be able to run UCAWA at 1280x1024 with everything turned on full.
-
It was so-so. I like Paul Walker and Jessica Alba; but man, this movie was shallow. It was basically a documentary on the deep blue sea and Jessica Alba's skinny a$$. Nice oceanography though. 6/10

ME FIRST!!! Absolutely loved it. It was typical Firefly and 100% true to its roots. Some people probably won't get this movie; but hopefully us geeks will go see it more than once in order to make it a big hit. 10/10 [ 06-15-2006, 07:06 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Best Buy tests used video game sales
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
The point is that when you sell a used game, it then adds support to the developers. We get requests every now and again from people buying used copies of BCMG or UC from eBay, then contact us for a serial number when they find that its either missing or already in use. We just tell them to go buy a new copy. Selling used games - especially PC games which usually require a CD-KEY - is a time bomb waiting to detonate. Console games are different however, but even then, those can be copied, then sold back to the store. By buying used games, the [greedy] retailers are encouraging the pirating of games. Think about this: They're not taking back returns, but they're willing to back it back used. Whats wrong with that picture? Everyone sees how much money EB makes on selling used games; so they all want a piece of the action. -
Which is why we don't issue new keys for used software.
