Well, I'm stumped. This is definitely system specific. PTEstudio uses a different rendering pipeline than the game itself and thats probably why it works. As for the game, it appears as if the scene is in the correct place, but the rendering on some systems causes this anomaly. It could be video driver configuration (e.g. Z-Buffer depth), game config (you ARE running these tests with the DEFAULT game config settings, right?!?!) or any number of things. I'll keep digging as I find time and if I come up with anything, I'll let you know. btw, your desktop is set to 32-bit, right? Oh, one more thing. Please run IA0111 again and change the NID/MAP mode to display the stats about the mzone/scene. Post a screen shot for me to see. Also, do ALT+S to bring up Tacops. Post a screen shots for me to see.
-
OK Download this 73.00 driver and install it over your existing 71.89 driver. Reboot when prompted. Run the IA0111 scenario and tell me if everything displays fine or not.

Anyway, download this new PTEstudio build (backup the existing ptestudio.exe first), extract to your game folder and run the same test. If the map displays correctly, no need to post another pic, just say yes or no.

OK, do this Apply the latest 2.00.30 patch on top of your current (2.00.21 I assume) patch. Download GBS-III from the registration page and extract to a temp folder. Copy ptestudio.exe and ptestudio.ini files from the GBSIIIToolsPTEstudio folder to your game install folder. Create a shortcut to the ptestudio.exe file with the following parameters -r1024x768 -b32 Run the PTEstudio shortcut and follow the instructions below. Press F2 In the first box, select earth. In the second box select earth331[nbase] (if you click in the box and start typing earth331, it will appear). In the third box select scene_nbase03 (the first one). In the fourth box, select fleet_naval03 After making these selections in the four boxes, click on the Go to Object button. This will load the naval scene (where IA0111 takes place). Tap the HOME key 4-6 times so that you are above the sea level. Press CTRL+M to display the map. This is exact same map that is displayed in NID/MAP mode. Press CTRL+S to display the stats about the mzone, scene etc etc Press CTRL+G to take a screen shot (look in the SHOTS folder for it). Convert it to JPEG and post it for me to see. What I'm trying to figure is if in fact this is a video driver issue. The map and scene in PTEStudio should appear as in v2.00.00 NID/MAP mode.

Since 2.00.21 is incorrect (using the wrong map), now I know where to start looking.

quote: Originally posted by Wolfheart: Done. The files you sent are fine. So this could be a video driver issue. But before I make this conclusion, I need you to do the following please. Uninstall the game and kill the folder Install from the retail CD-ROM Apply the 2.00.00 patch Download and apply this 2.00.20 patch Run the IA0111 scenario and tell me if the naval scene is OK or not. I also need a screen shot showing the NID map. Download and apply this 2.00.21 patch Run the IA0111 scenario and tell me if the naval scene is OK or not. I also need a screen shot showing the NID map. I read in a post that this issue started after (or was it before), the 2.00.21 patch.

OK, we're getting somewhere. As I suspected, somehow, your version is loading the WRONG map for that planet. Which means a bad patch install or download. I need a volunteer. Wolfheart, from your current 2.00.30 patch version, do the following: Open up a console window (START/RUN/CMD.EXE) and change to the PTE3PTEMAP folder. Execute this command DIR > PTEMAPS.TXT Still in the console window, change to the PTE3STETEX folder. Execute this command DIR > STETEX.TXT Locate the PTEDEFS.INI file located in the PTE3 folder Zip all three files (PTEMAPS.TXT, STETEX.TXT, PTEDEFS.INI) above to wolfheart.zip and send to me at [email protected] If you don't want to use START/RUN to execute the command console, then open up Windows Explorer and change to the game install folder. Then right-click on the folder and select "Command Prompt". This will open up the command prompt window in that folder. [ 05-16-2005, 08:19 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

I opened a trouble ticket in Area 51 and like me, the testers could not reproduce this issue. I would suggest the following: Uninstall the game and DELETE the folder Install the game from the CD-ROM Download the 2.00.00 patch again (from 3DGamers) and copy it into the game folder. Download the latest 2.00.30 patch (from the registration page) and copy it into the game folder. Apply the 2.00.00 patch Run the IA0111 scenario and look around to make sure that the naval units are fine. Go back to that scene in Majoris and repeat the same procedure. Apply the 2.00.30 patch Repeat step #6 Post the results I also wrote a 2.00.30 compatible IA0917 scenario. Just copy it into the game's DATA folder, start the game and run the IA0917 scenario. This scenario puts you in the military base about 25km from the naval base in question. Just take off and fly to the naval base. btw, when you start, the NID map should look exactly like the naval_test.jpg image contained the scenario zip file above. If its not, then there is a problem.

I was expecting this to be the usual run-of-the-mill thriller. Its not great, but its quite watchable and will while away the time until the real Summer flicks start showing up. 8/10

This movie was a LOT better than I expected. Jet Li does drama!! Who'da thunk it?!? Very good movie. 10/10

All those patches work fine here. Just tried them all myself.

Rubbish. You said it more than once but I really wonder how you explain that I did not have any problems with any patch since 2.00.21(IIRC my first patch was 2.00.16),but I started having two problems(one of them is this) with 2.00.21(and ALL of the later ones) I don't have to explain what is going on with YOUR system. Obviously, since I can't reproduce it and only a few of you have it, tells me that you have an issue on your end that you need to resolve. Nothing to do with me. If the map files are out of synch - due a bad install and/or patch - then this is a symtom of that. Furthermore, nobody seems to know which version is causing this problem for them because everything is shooting in the dark. Unless you have a recent patch that does not have the problem and one that does, this is all just a waste of time. EDIT: Apart from that, IA0111 is the best scenario to use to test this silly issue. There is an entire naval fleet there (including subs) which are perfectly where they should be. [ 05-14-2005, 12:18 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Reality Engine (The engine that will power BCNG)

The new US RealID passes the senate
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
My biggest issue with this is that there is seriously NO need for ANY of this. All they had to do was just issue new driver's licenses. In fact, the State of FL is already rolling out new licences, (which have nothing to do with this RealID thing) and will be phasing out the older ones. A valid driver's license is the best form of ID. All they have to do is enforce a new one and give everyone a deadline to get the new one by their next birthday. Same as is done with car tags. Boom. Problem solved. When you go in for the new one, THEN the proposed realID forms of ID can then be required in order to ensure that those being issued licenses are who they say they are and who are entitled to one. Then, anyone who does not comply and is caught with an outdated license, falls under the same penalty as driving with an expired license. Only this time, law enforcement will have the power to validate who you are - on the spot. If you are not legally in the country, then you get carted off to the station and the authorities can take it from there. I mean, seriously, this realID thing is just more bureacratic bullshit and I for one am quite shocked that NONE of the mainstream media - nor the ACLU (as far as I can tell), have made a furor about it. I think I heard Lou Dobbs mention it once - in passing - in his CNN program. But that was it. Being a proponent of tougher immigration rules, I would have expected Lou to make a furor about this since it basically doesn't solve ANYTHING. I mean, terrorists, illegals etc found a way to get INTO the country. They have passports, driver licenses etc. So, I don't see why the govt. thinks that, all of a sudden, realID is going to curb that. Not even by a long shot. All its going to take is one loophole and the whole thing is shot. -

And there is NO freelancing on fleet servers. So please refrain from introducing new rules. You want to freelance, go to non-fleet servers. -
Reality Engine (The engine that will power BCNG)
Supreme Cmdr replied to a topic in PC Gaming & Technology
Well, its official. Epic have acquired the Reality Engine. I suppose rather than compete (as if competing with DOOM3 wasn't bad enough), they just bought them out. This doesn't affect us, since we already have a license to use RE in any project (not just BCNG) going forward. My post from elsewhere on the Net quote: SquirrelZero is right, if my phone was ringing off the hook based on news I wasn't privvy to, I'd be frigging running out butt nekid looking for the mofo pulling a cruel joke. Then when reality - and common sense (whatever is left of it) - sinks in, you go figure out what the **** is going on. Like SquirrelZero, we've been around even before RE had teeth and the guys (Tim, Jeremy et al) are pretty cool guys. Despite what the Epic press release says, existing licensees (like us), can still continue using the engine but not to expect any further updates I don't think. Its kinda weird, but being a developer - and knowing how Epic are not notorious for screwing people - I'm quite certain that behind-the-scenes actions will sort this out for existing licensees. Not to be facetious or anything, but IMO this buyout doesn't have **** all to do with Tim Johnson's [unquestionable] talent. My take is that Epic just got scared and decided to buy out the *really* small guy, bring that talent+technology in house (as part of the deal) and [probably] not further saturate the mainstream middleware license arena (DOOM3, NetImmerse, GameBryo, Renderware, Virtools). Its easier to buy one rung on the ladder - especially given the price of RE when compared to those other engines - than it is the others higher up the ladder. If Tim and Jeremy made out like bandits, good for them. Running a company while developing an engine (which is essentially what you're doing if your are licensing technologies) is not exactly a good match. So, if Tim wants to continue being a "developer" instead of a businessman, then this is the right way to go. Especially if the price is right; as I'm sure that it was because, knowing him, there is no way he would have done this without some substantial benefit. This is only the beginning. EA bought Criterion and pretty much locked up GameByro and RenderWare. A bunch of others (e.g. Intrinsic) have gone under and the rest are struggling. Check the reg page. The online VCF has also been updated. You have to positively read the VCF before applying this patch. You have been warned. For those of you new to UC. You need to install the v2.00.00 patch first, before installing this patch on top of it. WARNING: Due to users going from the base 2.00.00 patch to the current 2.00.xx patch; this patch WILL delete ALL saved games. So, if you are upgrading from 2.00.19 or higher, backup the files in the SAVE folder before applying the patch. If you run an mp server, you should also backup your UCSETUPMP.INI file. After applying the patch, copy them back to the SAVE folder. If you attempt to do this with any saved game version earlier than the specified version, good luck bud.
