  4. Analog to Digital TV: How to Get HDTV
  5. quote: Originally posted by Remo Williams: As far as combining MP and RP This never has been - and shouldn't be - a requirement for fleet participation. The premise of RP has nothing to do with MP. If folks who want to RP can do so [on their own] in the MP framework, so be it; thats their problem. I probably should blame Shingen for all of this RP in MP blur; so I'm making this clear now: My mp servers have NOTHING to do with RP and were NEVER intended to have ANYTHING to do with it.

It was Mira Furlan, ie Delenn from Babylon 5 as the French Women tonight on LOST. Unreal. Yeah!!! You have NO idea the headache I had trying to place the face, voice, accent etc. Finally it came to me and I nearly died.
  7. A Teamspeak server has been setup on SERVER2. Check with your FL for the password and access details.
  8. uhm hmmmm, I see Shingen hasn't said anything to you guys yet? This morning I woke up to a PM from him saying that he was resigning from and scrapping the TDH fleet. heh.
  9. Quality of Life Issues are Holding Back the Game Industry
  10. quote: Originally posted by Shingen: Someone needs to close this thread and start a new one. It's taking waay too long to load with 9 pages. I feel sorry for the guys on dial-up. All you have to do is load the last page; the other 8 pages are not loaded.
  11. quote: Originally posted by Zane Marlowe: I see little need for Prime to change what its role is, given its success in recruiting and its fitness for MP owing to its role as a frontline combat fleet. Who would want to change what works? As the leader of Prime, there won't be any changes to its tasking. Remo, Marvin and his crew have done a good job of it so far, which is why I take a hands-off approach to it. So, these discussions have NOTHING to do with Prime; its fine just the way it is. quote: The question is, will the other fleets remain as they are or will they essentially become frontline fleets like Prime (and Orion), dropping roles that are not "MP friendly," or keeping them and adding other roles that are.As I indicated previously, this is probably the best route which would result in minimal hassle. quote: SC has suggested the possibility that all the fleets take the modular form (bringing specialized tasks in-house so to speak) that Prime has, and then be simply assigned to different sectors.Correct quote: As I said, I think that solve the practical problem of getting support fleets something to do in MP, but it also loses some of the specialization that gives a fleet a unique character relative to the other fleets. Can we preserve that uniqueness somehow? There's nothing preventing a fleet from having thast specialization internal to its own structure. Thats how the real life military units work. e.g. the Army has an intel unit; as does the Navy etc
  12. The idea is to KEEP moving. You - being ex-army, should know that. As for the other marines, they won't fire unless you fire. If you look, they will fire in your direction of fire; this way you all keep together as a group. If you want them to engage their own targets, use the TOM and give them SAD orders. I am planning on changing this behavior in UC because I have revised it heavily in UCHI. The problem [currently] is, if during escort they break formation and go SAD, they won't revert to escort when all threats are neutralized; and you would have to find them all again (assuming they haven't gone off and gotten themselves killed) and order them back to escort using the TOM. Though UCHI uses a different logic/skill tree, in UC I will just have them engage targets from their current position - while still in escort mode. Because UCHI is heavy into squad combat and control, a LOT of the AI has been revised somewhat and most of that will find its way into the UC add-on.
  13. quote: Originally posted by Zane Marlowe: So, I replied with the following To which I said: Post this as a new subject in the general fleet discussions thread and I'll address it. One thing that comes to mind is that instead of the fleets having specific roles now, that they all have the role as Prime, but operate in their own sectors. That might work I think. quote: Originally posted by Shingen: Why Derek chose to create a different MP universe, instead of a reduced SP universe with SP regions (IE: Sol, Lyrius, Alpha Centuri, Polaris, ect.), has never failed to baffle me. I had my reasons; just because you're baffled doesn't mean I did it just because I wanted to make more work for myself. You think creating a space region - from scratch - is child's play? Its not. For one thing, the single player game heavily relies on the primary universe. In BCM and BCMG, the IA scenarios took place in their own smaller and more compact univers. In UC, I [heavily] revised the engines so that I could alleviate some of this work by having all scenarios use the same galaxy. Multiplayer is a whole other kettle of fish. Do you have ANY idea how big Sol - by itself - is? Let alone having Sol, Lyrius and whatnot? Then you have the issue of alliances. To even have Sol in multiplayer would mean changing a LOT of things in order to support e.g. Gammulans, Insurgents etc change the location, alliances etc of the stations. Then I'd have to add, remove, relocate stations etc. What would I end up with? A duplicate copy of a section (in this case, Sol) of the primary game galaxy but with a vastly different layout. No thanks. Starting from scratch with a multiplayer specific galaxy alleviates all of the above issues, work and whatnot because I have a clean slate. I understand the issue with role-playing and whatnot, but the whole premise behind roleplaying came about before multiplayer was even envisioned for the series. So, when I was doing the mp world, I wasn't sitting around going ...oh darn, this is going to break RP. Yeah, right. GCO uses the primary galaxy and its architecture has each starsystem on a separate server, with the jump anomalies actually linking servers together in a cluster. Thats different; since there is NO single player component in GCO and that galaxy creation too was a clean slate in more ways than one. As far as server side saves are concerned, I'll just regurgitate what I said to you earlier today on PM. quote: Shingen:but you'll make far more profit figuring out how to make the SP universe in MP persistant!heh, unlikely. quote: Shingen:We don't want Procon, we want Polaris! That primary UC galaxy is too big to use in the current architecture. Which is why only the new GCO (the pay-for-play MMO) architecture can power it. quote: Shingen:We want to save what we doI am investigating how to do that in the UC add-on without too much work or requiring a mySQl dB backend (like what GCO requires and uses). But don't hold your breath if it doesn't happen in any standalone title. The architecture is just too much hassle to revise to support it. Thats why I started from scratch with GCO as far as that layer is concerned. quote: Shingen:The heart of BC MP needs to be persistant, with the ability to save stats. Without this feature, BC MP won't fly.It will be. Its called GCO and that GameCQ lobby is just the tip of the iceberg for what we're doing.
  14. Not sure why this should come as a shock; considering the b*astards we're talking about. Sad really; poor woman. At least she's going to heaven, unlike those b*astards who have a dinner date in Hell once the US military get their paws on them. These mofos are not military and I don't see ANY reason why they should be subject to the ROE. I for one just think kill on sight is the only way to go with these murderers; yet, I see on CNN where yet another military soldier is under investigation for putting a bullet in an insurgents [who was playing dead] head.
  15. You can locate the TDU using your DIE. Its in the list of ground targets. Since the DIE radar is limited to 5km, you will have to locate the TDU using Tacops. btw, next time, you should indicate the number of the (IA0118) scenario you are inquiring about because most of them have similar descriptions.
  16. Add one more to the collective
  17. ...or it could just be the PC version they are talking about.
  18. About bloody time;hopefully the US courts will follow suit in a similar speedier fashion.
  19. If the joystick is detected in control panel, then it should be detected by the game. And I don't know what you mean by "load". There's nothing to load. Have you tried it in the game itself i.e just set it in the config and run the game.
  20. Apparently there is now a class action lawsuit in the works.
  21. quote: Originally posted by Remo Williams: Hehe, love the new game lobby as a matter of fact I'm posting this from inside the lobby. You can chat, browse 3000ad.com, and much much more from one interface very cool indeed. Game lobby screen shot! check out the screen shot of the lobby interface above. btw, from that screen shot, it looks like you minimized then opened it. When you do that, the second button bar will move to the next row. You can just click on the bar to the left of it and then drag it back up. This is a bug that Palestar is aware of and will be fixing it soon.
  22. Check the reg page. The online VCF has also been updated. You have to positively read the VCF before applying this patch. You have been warned. For those of you new to UC. You need to install the v2.00.00 patch first, before installing this patch on top of it. The MD5 hash file is also on the page. You can use a program such as WinMD5 to compare this hash against the file you downloaded. To check the download's MD5 hash, do the following: download the patch and extract the contents into the game install folder. Run winMD5 (or similar program) Go to File/Open MD5 file and load the patch MD5 file located in the game install folder. Go to File/Open File and load the patch file you downloaded above. If winMD5 reports the status as good, then your patch downloaded correctly and can be used to patch the game. WARNING: Due to users going from the base 2.00.00 patch to the current 2.00.xx patch; this patch WILL delete ALL saved games. So, if you are upgrading from 2.00.15 or higher, backup the files in the SAVE folder before applying the patch. If you run an mp server, you should also backup your UCSETUPMP.INI file. After applying the patch, copy them back to the SAVE folder. If you attempt to do this with any saved game version earlier than the specified version, good luck bud.
