Remo, I'm thinking that a fleet roll call should be probably be built into the fleet dB; but I can't think of any way that it can be done. e.g. you can update the fleet dB bulletin (and the forum thread) announcing a roll call. Then each fleet member would log in to the dB, go to their profile and maybe check a box or something? I dunno, am gonna go ask Mark (the web guy) what he thinks, since he has a good grip on stuff like this. In the meantime, if you have any ideas, post it here so that we can follow the thread.

Fleet Meets, Tournaments, Championships

quote: Originally posted by Shingen: We did "discover" yesterday, that if players stay in AP/AI while attacking other players, the "spinning" and "lag-jumping" is almost completely reduced. It shouldn't be much of a discovery - especially if you know what the AP/AI mode actually does. Naturally - as I've been saying all along - those complaining about dogfighting, have no clue what they're talking about because they have NOT spent time doing it. Issuing orders as a commander is a whole different kettle of fish from being engaged in actual combat. If the AI assumes that role, it has a better understanding of the ship's dynamics, the world etc, so it knows what to do. A stupid - yes stupid - player who thinks he can grab a mouse or joystick on day one and expect to prevail, doesn't. quote: It takes most of all the skill out of combat, but it also makes it alot more stable and playable using AP/AI alone for PvP combat. It has NOTHING to do with stability. The AI isn't doing ANYTHING differently from a human player - it just does it better. It is no different from dropping yourself into the middle of a planet base and getting shot on sight because you decided to stop - for a moment - to look around; while your NPC marines are moving about. quote: Also, we found that there is virtually no lag when using missles, but PTAs screw everything up, lag wise.Well gee, there's a surprise. Missiles are single model entities with a pre-computed path when they have target lock. The PTA turrets - just like the regular laser shots - has to render the shots on your machine and on every other client machine (or they won't see your shots). Guess what happens when there is rapid PTA fire as the server attempts to update all clients. Yes, lag. This is further exacerbated by the fact that the server will always cap at a 56K stream (regardless of whether you have DSL, cable or whatever) in order to keep all players at the same reasonable synch rate (or players on DSL will have a distinct advantage over those on 56K dial-up). This transmission cap (at 56K) is one of the major revisions I had originally planned (last year during Beta) on making in UC. Now I can't because its too much work as I'd have to strip the kernel and its not worth my while for a $19.99 game. So, its being done in the new networking kernel as described here. -
I missed last nights episode because I was exhausted and passed out on the couch - only to wake up at 2:15am wondering when it was going to start. And my Tivo is full it seems, since it didn't tape it. Anyone know if its airing again? I seem to recall that ABC sometimes aired the episode on the weekend or something.

I say good riddance.

?'s About transporters,shuttles and marines

quote: Originally posted by marshb63: The transported troops wont SAD or SEAD I can only give them specific targets to attack before they will move or go FSP than give the escort command to get them moving (and fighting). Maybe I'm reading to much into this and I'm cofusing myself. Thats how it works. They await orders. You give them orders. They do it. quote: As for the marines I try to get to RTB after the Shuttle returns to CC I do send the Shuttle back with command to extract ( i get the 5 min countdown to dust off) but the marins wont RTB. instead they get flagged with evac and hold (forever). No matter what I do I cant get them back on board the CC via whatever means of transport. It works. Please read the manual and the manual addendum PDF file. Extracting personnel is a no-brainer and I'm not going to waste time typing it all up again. -
?'s About transporters,shuttles and marines
Supreme Cmdr replied to marshb63's topic in Universal Combat Series
All NPC units have SAD by default - except that transported troops will SAD+HALT when deployed. Why? because then you won't have to chase after them after transporting them if you wanted them to do something else. SAD is not the same as ESCORT You can't RTB marines if their platform [shuttle] no longer exists. Where are they to RTB to if the shuttle that deployed them is back aboard the CC? Since they don't have a valid platform to RTB to, they will flag themselves for EVAC so you can either send down another shuttle or use the transporter to extract them. -

Fleet Meets, Tournaments, Championships

quote: Originally posted by Marvin: The one problem I see (as a GalCom commander who would've played Insurgent for the second time had Norton 2005 allowed it): playing as a substitute hampers tactical ops. Who wants to brief tactics for a mission when the guy(s) you're briefing will probably be playing for the other team in a couple weeks? ...and thats why fleet transfers are not allowed unless it is within the same alliance or wing e.g. going from EarthCom to GALCOM - even then, authorization is still required. -
Insurgent FLs, please read.

Fleet Meets, Tournaments, Championships

quote: Originally posted by Shingen: In fact, I prolly need to let Derek find another leader for TDH and go join Chavik as an Insurgent, since that's what I usually play as anyway. No, I don't need to find another leader, if you can't find people who are willing to commit, then the fleet will be scrapped. As for you going to the Insurgents, apart from the fact that fleet transfers - without my authorization - are not allowed, it is highly unlikely that Chavik would accept you (or any raider) in his ranks. -
Moved from deleted thread: quote: Originally posted by Papi: Finally something worth writing home about I hope the movie comes out as good as the trailer.

Fleet Meets, Tournaments, Championships
Supreme Cmdr replied to a topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
quote: Originally posted by Remo Williams: Sounds fair to me if they haven't participated in the last two meets then they won't get the url from me this coming meet. All though who ever shows up will get to participate in a match. They'll just have to wait an additional week to get a look at the new MP lobby for not being active lately. BTW thanks SC! Thats fine; but it should only be made available to those who have been at the last two meets. Others will and should never have access to it until it is officially released sometime next year. If I check the logs and see that someone is using it and they are not supposed to, I will fire the FL, invalidate the lobby and ban the FL from the site. NO EXCEPTIONS. As to the spinning DREADA, I think I know what you're talking about. Its not lag, its something else; but I'd have to see it in action (at the meet) in order to make a final deduction and see how best to address it. -
Well, as first hinted at here, its official, Warren Spector has departed Eidos.

Fleet Meets, Tournaments, Championships
Supreme Cmdr replied to a topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
OK, I will try to be at the next session. Since I don't have time to read all posts on the forum, Remo, send me details please. I won't be playing with you guys, just observing what you guys are doing. Also, I will probably unveil the new and upcoming mp lobby at that session so regular fleet members can try it out. I'll make it available only to FLs, who can then distribute the link to the client download to their regular members. -

I saw the sneak preview of this last night and it was better than I expected. If you liked The Thomas Crowne Affair (the Pierce Brosnan version), Entrapment, The Tailor Of Panama, The Heist etc, you will like this. Part thriller, part drama, part humor, a whole lotta fun. I am docking it one point because it could have gone a bit farther with the heist itself. When you watch it, you'll see what I mean. 9/10

Words can't describe how much I loved this movie. Pixar have done it again; though it is highly unlikely that it will see the same success as the little fish that could. 10/10

Performance issues with Creative Labs Audigy/2 Cards
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Tech Support
You shouldn't be tampering with your system unless you know what you are doing. Using the System Restore after what you previously did, is a sure fine way to hose your system. Good luck. -
Try reading the FAQ, your problem is actually documented in there. And you need BOTH patches.
