  1. JTL will only be a success for those already playing SWG and who like it. I can't possibly imagine any space sim fan wanting to sub to SWG just so they can get to JTL and thus get their SW space sim fix. Maybe for a month or so....until they figure out what its going to cost them in the long run.
  2. Shingen, either read what I wrote again, send email to Dave Braben, or ask someone who has seen the FFE code; I can't be bothered to argue about something I know for a fact.
  3. Ah yes, another Phantom train wreck fix
  4. SOE bans between 10,000 - 45,000 players. http://www.news0r.com/index.php?p=2189 http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=8397419 http://vnboards.ign.com/SWG_General_Discus...84/74129279/?78 http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/m...ssage.id=328117
  5. quote: Originally posted by Pugwash: I'd go along with maccca on this one the UK Box gives the impression that you don't need a Pixel Shader (minimum specification) but having one is recommended not a requirement. Yep. Thats the same thing they did when they butchered the BCM Gold manual for the UK version; which is why I refused to send them a PDF manual for UC; so they had no choice but to include the full thing that is the same as the US version. quote: Not all gamers know what the full DirectX 8.1 or 9.0b requirements means in terms of graphics card hardware and capabilities most like I used to, will think if the latest version of DX installs then it's compatible.Yeah; let alone what a shader is. We've got so many questions like Where can I download the vertex shader for my card that is not even funny anymore.
  6. quote: Originally posted by maccca: Thank you for your prompt reply Derek Smart. Papi, on the retail box I have it does not state anywhere that I need quote:32 MB DirectX 8.1 compliant video card with vertex shader 1.1 It says "MINIMUM 1GHz-128RAM-CDROM4X-3D card 32MB" "RECOMMENED" 1,7GHz-256RAM-CDROM4X-64MB+Pixel shader" So, Papi before you start patronising me like that I suggest you get your facts right. Thank you. You have the UK box which does not have the same wording as the US box which Papi quoted. Thats the fault of the publisher because their US and UK divisions are different. I for one, have NO clue why the UK division didn't just use the information we sent and which the US division used on the packaging. BUT the UK box (which I have right here in front of me) DOES say that a pixel shader is required. Its right there in the video card box and it says: 64MB + Pixel Shader A DX 8.1 compliant card (which the GF4MX card is not), implies vertex shader 1.1. And if a card has a pixel shader, then it also has a vertex shader; but the other way around is not true (i.e. a card with a vertex shader does not necessarily have a pixel shader).
  7. Video Game Makers Go Hollywood. Uh-Oh
  8. quote: Originally posted by maccca: One question. Does the game support GFORCE4 MX after the latest patches are applied, version 2 etc.? Thank you. No. A shader engine is not something the game adds, its something that your card either does or does not have. Besides, GF4 MX cards are very old generation cards.
  9. Well, scratch one more. Shortly after this, we got this. quote: From: To: Subject: You ppl are dicks. Date: Sat, 21 Aug 2004 15:08:05 -0500 Have a nice day. I bought your stupid ****ing game. and all i want is a little help and guidence... to be elite there has to be average and below average ppl to compete with... so i guess you're just a bunch of snivling computers nerds with their thumbs firmly up their ass. No Wonder your game got published as a BUdget game... WIth that type of attitude your company will never be mainstream or make much if any money. I'd just like to say your are DICKS. Have a NICE day. No equipment needed to see it though binoculars do help. Yes. Once again, you miss the point. You can't see ANY discernable features of the ISS. None. Which is why, it looks like a star. It is BVR. Now go back and read what I wrote. quote: Originally posted by Shingen: FEE didn't have the scale of BCM, but it did have scale, You couldn't stand on the surface of Earth and see a space station, but you could see the moon. And thats because it was rendered where it was supposed to be (an illusion), not its actual position in the game world. To have done that, they'd have had to render it at actual scale - which would not only blow the graphics engine to kingdom come, but it would also reveal the cheating thats going on in the scaling matrix. The reason you don't stand on Earth and see the moon in a BC game, is because for performance reasons, the space region is rendered in the background - but it being rendered or you won't be able to switch back/forth from planet to space and vice versa, nor will anything in the space region be updated (e.g. NPCs attacking a station in space while you're pissing around on the planet below). quote: but FFE was still on hellava game none-the-less. For its time, yeah. No question about that.
  14. I wanted to watch something light this weekend, in preparation for The Excorcist; so I went to see this. Without any expectations. I really liked it. If you like buddy movies or something along the lines of Indian Summer (with Alan Arkin et al, which I like a lot), you will like this. Lots of googy fun. 8/10
  15. I was planning on seeing this one this weekend; but after reading your review, I'm not so sure now.

  17. quote: Originally posted by Shingen: Sorry Derek, but FFE is my most favorite Space-sim ever. heh, makes no difference to me either way. Elite was good for its time. quote: It's the only game out there that you can land on a planet, look up at the sky and think to yourself; " I could go to that star if I wanted to..there might even be people there." Thats because the altitudes are not even close to being realistic and two, what you are actually seeing is an approximation. So, no, you really can't actually do that (point to a star and say, hey, I can go there). You have no idea what the code is doing underneath; and guess what? I do. In all BC games, the altitudes and scales are realistic and not boxed. For that reason, you could stand on Earth and can't even see the starstation in orbit because (a) it is accurately culled by the graphics engine since it is too far ( even if you could see it, it won't be more than a spec. The same reason you can't stand in New Zealand and see the ISS space around Earth even if it is passing ahead. And in BC games, why not try standing on a planet, then have one of your support crafts enter the planet at your location (use a waypoint) and see how long before it clears the BVR range and allows you to see it with the naked eye. The only reason the planetary egress in BC games is 20K feet (in UC), is because I didn't want to make ingress/egress a tedious affair. The actually altitude at which EV kicks in, is exactly the same as the real world planet Earth. Cheating is one thing; feasibility is another.
  18. How eight pixels cost Microsoft millions
  19. The patch files are just fine, your connection or browser may not be.
  20. LMAO!! You know Scriv, once I finally get my blog going (its installed, configured and everything - I just have to bloody well start using the damn thing), you and I should get an E&R type movie/game review gig going. Your reviews are not only hilarious, but worth reading....even if they are diametrically misplaced. Man, that was funny. btw, didn't I read somewhere that it had gore in it? Did they remove it or what? What I liked about the original was it had no gore, just 100% scares (which give me chills just thinking about it).
  21. Dunno. I don't dwell on idle impossible fantasies. I do what I can now and don't believe in speculation. If its not possible, I don't think about it nor dwell on it.
  22. OK, whose first?
  23. Yeah, I like Atlantis, though I find it a tad annoying that Armstrong seems to want to be like O'Neil in the attitude dept.
