No worries. You need to the subjects correct otherwise if someone is searching for something, they will get too many false positives.

Nothing to do with the game. You hosed your system due to other reasons. In fact, the latest patches don't have any single player components which would even affect the game kernel. If your HDD is hosed, it has nothing to do with the game. The game is not supported on laptops. If you can get it work, fine. The game works fine on both of my laptops.

I have found - and fixed - the reason why some turrets on this model (and other similar ones) won't fire under some conditions. The models are fine. The problem is that - as I suspected - the turret thought it was going to be firing on the ship, so before it could fire, it turned itself off. The reason this problem is on this model is because the turret entity is resting on a smaller rectangular bit, which is also resting on the ship's body. Compare to the turret object on say, the Megaron. So, on the Nightstar, it was thinking that the shot was colliding with that rectangular bit, since it [the bit] is smaller than the 20m (now reduced to 1m) growth dynamically done in order to reduce the accuracy required for the turret beams. Compare to the Megaron which has its turret resting on the body of the ship, and that body being wider than 20m, causes the turret to fire correctly. 2km is not far enough. 10km is the minimum separation between waypoints that you need, due to the shuttle's very high speed. The altitude of the waypoint is irrelevant. The shuttle will project its landing point base on the location of the waypoint, not its height. So even if you have the waypoint at 5000 ft in the air, the shuttle will go there, then descend to ground zero AGL at the location of the waypoint. It doesn't care about its altitude.

And what is it you are asking, thats not in there? So far, your questions have already been answered - but you are more than welcome to keep rephrasing the same question in as many multiple permutations as you'd like. You won't get any further answers based on that.

3000AD Official UC Multiplayer Servers

The servers have been up and running since the time I posted my previous message. I have a server monitor program running and I just checked it, they're all up. -

And I regularly play on 56K in order to gauge the performance. On the planet, it is a nightmare due to the massive amount of information that needs to be sent. In space, it has always worked fine for me, even with 9 people on (the other night).

If someone got a lock on you and you see the TRACK warning in the ITD, it is up to you to ignore it or press the O key. NPCs make that decision based on threat assessment. Obviously someone launching an inbound missile, has a lock, and obviously is a greater threat than the fool you're ballet dancing with in a guns only engagement.

There have been no changes to the turret tags in any model since the game was released. So I have not idea what you're talking about. Obviously the ship designs in BCM Gold and UC are vastly different. And the Violon doesn't have any side firing turrets.

Multiplayer event ideas

I dunno, what's a shuttle worth these days?

quote: Originally posted by gaultesian: I also noticed that the Star Station Type 8 does not fire its PTAs as well - I can pretty much go up and kiss it OK, lets not get carried away. Have you tried flying directly underneath it in order to see if that turret mounted under the center section fires? You might want to use the /i cheat in order to check that.

LOL!! Talk about poetic justice!

Then it may be that the model was incorrectly exported and the vertex normals are inverted or incorrect. I say this because when I tested it, it would sometimes fire. And other times it will attempt to fire, then cancel it. Why? Because the PTA won't fire if the shot would hit itself. The Nightstar immediately cancels firing (after powering up the PTA turret) because it thinks that it will hit itself. This is wrong because the turrets under the craft have a clear firing arc and won't hit anything. Since its collision detect related, the model being exported incorrectly, is the only explanation because when I disabled its ability to check before firing, all the turrets worked reliably (instead of only some of them working). That was the result of my research last night - and I was going to check the model today in order to confirm my suspicions. If I'm right - which I probably am - then to fix it would mean having the modeler re-export the model. I will know by tomorrow - and thanks to all for bringing this to my attention.

LMAO!!! EDIT: btw, if our servicemen gamers here don't find this funny, please let a mod/admin know and it will be removed.

This is a little known fact, but I can run any script I want on the server - similar to the single player script. So, now that multiplayer is getting very close to being as stable (the biggest issue being sorted the synch issues on the planet) as single player, I want some ideas for mp events. Basically, a planned event will be a dedicated script running on the server - and on top of the default server script. e.g. it could a script in which a group of hostile (scripted) ships are harrassing a station - and everyone on the server should logon (as same race, but choice of caste) and take on these hostiles. The script will auto resolve and reset when conditions are met. Thats just an example. So, use this thread for submitting ideas for what a FUN and INTERESTING mp event would be. The servers can support up to 64 players (for bandwidth reasons I have them capped to 32), but if the turnout is more than 32, I will increase it. Also, we would do this based on invites or sign-ups. e.g. if you don't sign up, you don't get the password to the event server etc. Events also don't need to have any NPCs involved. e.g., it could just be an all out skirmish between two sides (e.g. TER/MIL vs TER/INS), or all players on one side (e.g. TER/MIL) engaging a single station which must be defended by the other side (e.g. TER/INS). etc So, lets hear it. We can start something like this next week and plan one every weekend at day/times (e.g. Sat/Sun) which would enable everyone to participate.

Yeah, / is just a regular targeting key and has nothing to do with the jump anomaly.
