System freezes then reboots when I run the game...

Why is your system profile not in your sig? Do you want this thread deleted? And have you followed the steps in the FAQ related to the CDROM and Macrovision? -

I can Fly into Center of Saturn and Jupiter

Its not a bug. In fact, when you do make planetfall, you will die. [ 02-12-2004, 12:20 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -

Actually, I contacted Fileshack and they sent me this statement. So, the files are just fine. quote: I've found this to be not the case. First of all I never downloaded the initial corrupted demo. Though something could still have gone wrong transferring the demo from the 3000AD server to ours, I downloaded a copy just to be sure and indeed it installs just fine. We did have server problems yesterday when the Unreal Tournament 2004 demo was released, which might've resulted in some downloads being dropped.

Arrow keys don't work when Num lock is on
Supreme Cmdr replied to Farten's topic in Universal Combat Series
The regular arrow keys don't do anything, but I'm going to remap them to mimic the NUMLOCK arrows in the final 1.00.02 patch, to avoid this whining. -

This is just silly *thread moved* -
Its nothing to do with sound. The short delay occurs when a batch of objects are created all at once. If you defrag your HDD, add more memory etc, it will be minimized. It is more noticeable on planets because there is a lot more processing going on and because when an npc person (e.g. marine) is loaded, it loads the base model, textures and ALL of its animations. Thats what causes the pause. Nothing I can do about it. The /preload option is designed to alleviate that somewhat, but it won't do any good if you don't have enough base memory to hold all the models etc because once a model that is not in the /preload cache is needed, its going to flush something to make space. It'll cause a pause again. I was experimenting with a new caching scheme, but with everything else going on, coupled with Dreamcatcher's rushed release of the game, I abandoned it. In fact, thats what that /preload option was for. That was the first pass test to see where the loading needed to be cached, preserved etc etc.

What are the UC multiplayer options/modes?

Topic moved. Damn n00bs -
No, you are right. Only missiles can take out some buildings. And if there is an ADS around, taking out any structure is hard. I was planning on adding some specialfx to the ADS to show is coverage, but didn't get around to it.

Arrow keys don't work when Num lock is on
Supreme Cmdr replied to Farten's topic in Universal Combat Series
quote: Originally posted by TopSpeed: Since the RC1 patch I have had a similar problem. Previously those keys worked to twist/roll the ship. Now, since applying the RC1 patch, those keys do nothing (at least while in space) regardless of whether or not the numlock key is on or off. You should read the VCF to see what key changes were made. And I have no idea which set of keys you folks are talking about. There are two sets of keys. The six keys ins/del/home/end/pUP/pDWN and the four arrow keys, next to the NUMLOCK set. Those two sets of keys are different. So, unless someone tells me what exactly the problem is and what the problem is, I'm not touching it. I have far more important things to do. -
Universal Combat - First Impressions

quote: Originally posted by Spindoktor: quote: There are a couple of problems, like your NPC troops walking on AIR Are you sure they aren't using their jetpacks? No, he's right and I know why its happening. If they walk off a support structure (a building they can actually stand on), they will simply keep walking off until they reach the edge of the bounding box before dropping. Problem is that some of the buildings have bounding boxes which extend a ways beyond the actually visible physical attributes of the building. So it looks like they are walking on air. The reason they can climb up buildings is because they can. Nothing is preventing them from doing it, the say way the player can do it. There's nothing that I can do about it because if I disabled it, then you won't be able to land on any building (e.g. using a jetpack to snipe from the top of a building, land a gunship on a roof etc). -
Yeah, and? The ship has forward and retro engines and it will accelerate in the direction of the target because flying backwards is perfectly legal. So, since the station is behind you....
-
No, he's right. I have it disabled for all careers except the commander career. JCMan, I will re-enable it for the EFM career in the final 1.00.02 patch and have the station launch a wing of escorts as well. AG is disabled for the first person and pilot careers, thats why it is also disabled for the EFP career. quote: Originally posted by JCMan: BTW, SC, I hope I did that UC CD-Key register thingy correctly, if not plz tell me. I don't wanna get banned. You did good. And nobody gets banned for that. You just get yelled at. A lot.

Its a driver problem. I've noticed it sometimes too. The controls for a previous craft are not being cleared fast enough, so you get to see remnants for a few frames before being cleared.

OK, go to OPTIONS and turn off the cloud plane. Tell me what happens. You would have to save your settings, then quit all the way to the OS, before restarting the game, otherwise the cloud plane will not be disabled.
