  1. OK, so you were trying to exit your craft in space. This uses the Space Force Marine model. Will look into it later tonite.
  2. quote: Originally posted by Opal_Dragon: I mean WE WANT to give you money!!! Thanks for the offer guys, but at this point, I already have a lawsuit against Dreamcatcher for damages going forward, so I can't take any money etc. That was the original lawsuit, which cited this pricing fiasco, sales and royalty reporting on BCM Gold etc. The injunction attempt was just to prevent them from selling the game at that price point until the lawsuit was in the courts. But since we didn't get the injunction because the judge (according to his ruling) would rather see a damages lawsuit (if their claims of increased sales and revenue proved to be horseshit) than several lawsuits against Dreamcatcher from the retailers (for asking them to raise the price), I just have to sit back and play it out. One thing is certain - I have seen it - DREAMCATCHER WILL PAY. But lets keep the thread on topic.
  3. Yeah, you can print it a Kinko's. No problem.
  4. quote: Originally posted by AlbietheOne: ok so tell me how to control ground vehicles I cant seem to be able to move the turret, ill use the keyboard to control ground stuff no problem as long as i can find out how to in the manuel Its in the manual and in the manual appendix. READ THEM BOTH. THATS WHY I WROTE THEM. quote: Originally posted by Masefield: Is there something in the water this weekend? Not really. At a $20 price point, you attract a bunch of people. Most of them who have no patience and are used to playing rubbish. The rest are just rude retards.
  5. Thats not enough information What CC type? Where? (space or planet) If on planet, are you landed (i.e. does TAXI show in the ITD)? etc etc
  6. I think its just losing precision at certain angles. I will look into it later. I have far more important things on my plate right now.
  7. quote: Originally posted by IntgrSpin: Another semi-disappointment is the set-up of interstellar travel. When flying about, I get the feeling that I'm not so much exploring, as I am wandering around places that are well-trodden, complete with "jump gates" and all. I would prefer a more freeform approach to travel than just going from one jumpgate/wormhole/flux to another. I'm guessing this has to do with removing 'loading areas' or boarders between space regions, but its a price I'd be willing to pay for the extra freedom. Yeah, I agree - but thats one of the downsides of having a fully fleshed out universe. Sure n00bs can explore, but vets of previous games already know (at least I think they should), know where everything is. At one point I had planned to create a separate galaxy for BCG, annexed to the existing one. In fact, I have a WIP version of it here somewhere. That all got nixed once Dreamcatcher decided to refocus the game - which saw me making things more idiot proof, redesigning and refocuing entire game engines (e.g. the fp mode) just to cope. As a result, a plethora of features (23 in all), such as the new galaxy, persistent server support, the ability to capture starbases, the ability to build your own bases in space/planets, the ability to upgrade your CC etc etc. I could go on, but you folks would just get depressed. And considering the $20 price point (for which I am currently suing Dreamcatcher for damages), the UC label is as good as dead because even if I did an add-on, it couldn't possibly be priced higher than $19.99. And for the amount of work involved, I have no intentions of doing an add-on. So, unless something changes, its looking a lot like we'll be seeing another Battlecruiser title in the next couple years.
  8. The game is played from the front view, not external views. No, this will never been implemented, so don't ask.
  9. Joystick control of vehicles will be in the upcoming patch. The entire control system was revised to support this whole WSAD control scheme and make it more the same across crafts. Since I don't use joysticks for ground vehicles (I have more sense than that), that never got implemented in the UC control scheme. And please try to temper your posts. If you are not polite, your posting rights will be restricted. For twenty frigging dollars, you're bloody lucky I'm even considering putting in NEW code.
  10. You probably have the European version. In which case, the full manual is in PDF format. Install the game and look in the DOCS folder.
  11. quote: Originally posted by Werewolf: SC, I can confirm that the 090-bug happens regardless of pose. It doesn't matter whether you're prone, crouching or standing, the player always slowly turns towards 090 degrees once you're about 10 degrees away from that angle. Its not a bug - but I will add it to my list of things to look at. What character model are you guys experiencing this with?
  12. quote: Originally posted by Pwnman: I did do an off-duty resume in the middle of it, if that counts as a save I don't know. erm, yeah, resume is a restored from the auto-saved game.
  13. quote: Originally posted by Shriver: Wanna Bet. People often make the mistake of dismissing me because of my age, Then I ask, "How many times has your name appeared in the American Journal of Mathematics." uhm yeah, in fact, I do wanna bet. I probably have more published works (not in the AJM) of practical use than theories. But I digress. Anyway, as others have said, just play the damn game. If you feel that you can do a better job, as soon as you develop it, send me a copy. But hurry up though, I'm aging quickly (or so my daughter tells me) and I'm probably not gonna wait 15 years for it. ps: Good luck on the graduation. All you need now is to grow up. And remember, life's too short.
  14. This one is top of my list to investigate tomorrow because one of the testers is reporting a similar issue. It looks like its the save game thats causing the problem. Try it without first saving the game, just to confirm this.
  15. quote: Originally posted by TheRedComet: quote:For sure later today once i get back to my house I am going to toss up the default mutiplayer sinario as an internet server. Hopeflly we can get some mad Marine Team Combat action etc etc etc.. for sure matey i love the mp feature in UC too bad there aren't alot of servers and players as for one system? umm i had a look in the mp settings i only seen one mp universe so i don't think it's possible unless someone makes something like that. Of course its possible. That universe has space and planetary regions.
  16. quote: Originally posted by Elric_Sloan: BTW, Derek, shouldnt you be in bed? We need that patch and tutorials tomorrow! Need ya well rested!! *sigh* I know. Actually I released the patch to the 3000AD testers several hours ago, with a view to releasing it on Monday. I am trying to reproduce a problem with upgradeds and saved games. If I can reproduce and fix that one, it should be good to go on Monday night. Tutorials should be finished by tomorrow afternoon I think.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Shriver: That being said, UC seems to have similar problems with general physics that any first semester physics class would bring into play. I can only imagine programming them into a game would be a rather collosall task at best for a large staff, let alone an independent development company. Actually, thats not the reason why we don't do it. We don't do it because it won't be fun. quote: have seen a number of things that indicate to me that the code could use a bit of tightening. The system seems to be running constantly an FDN rather than as a minimal. That is to say, it is trying to do everything at once, which as any Discrete math student can attest, is not possible or necessary. Principles of uncertainity and issues within the limitation of computability indicate that one is not warranted and another is not possible. Prinicples of uncertainity indicate that within dynamic environments, specific values can not be know simulatneously. The FDN is trying to do just that, when a Minimal would be more than sufficient to do the task. Stop. Please. Just stop. At 19, the math and physics I've forgotten, you don't have the text book for yet. Guaranteed. This has nothing to do with an FDN. The game runs in real-time. It NEEDS to run in real-time and it has a multithreaded kernel which partitions and schedules several engines - all at once. It has to because the entire game runs on a very sophisticated neural net kernel which requires as close to real-time processing as possible. ...and if I could look at a game screen and tell that some bits of code needed tightening, I won't be developing games. I'd be travelling with a circus. quote: I see a number of people commenting about the size of planets in the game. Size is immaterial to scale. What is more important is minimal unit of measurment. A Planet measured in meters comes back with a very impressive number. Earth has a Mean Radius of 6.37 x 10^6 or 6,370,000 meters from the center to the surface. Jupiter has a radius of 11.2245 earth radii and doesn't seem to impressive. This is a simple matter for a math engine to handle. My T-89 seems to deal with both rather quickly. And how far is too far. From an engineering point of view, there are few instance where it is necessary to go below a 100th of a Radian. Is it necessary for the math engine to compute below a meter? Did ANYONE get his point? I must have missed it back at radii. [ 02-08-2004, 01:57 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  18. Try reading the FAQ
  19. quote: Originally posted by Opal_Dragon: The game is still good. I know some people are hung up on litte tiny details in the graphic but I'm not, Good engine, Good Design! I just need someone to come up with a mod (or expansion pack) that give meaning to PARAMEDIC, EXPLORER, POLICE, COMMERCIAL, SCIENTIST plus other non military caste purpose other then being weak. Until then I'll just keep doing the military, scavenger or trading bit. But I love the dog fighting, it is really cool. It is primarily a combat game. And who says you can't be a merc? Thats what the raider caste is for. quote: Originally posted by SGT Nails: Well, I read the first page, and most of the second of this thread. And I noticed that everytime someone posts negetive feesback they are harrassed and confronted about their opinions, yet the whole point to this thread is first impressions. I hope you're joking. We don't and never have - tolerated that here. quote: uh, quit a few, and more coming. Why? two reasons. 1 people are buying widescreen monitors and televisions, and 2 there is a demand for applications and games in widescreen.Wrong. There is no special programming required to support widescreen resolutions - its the aspect ratio that counts. And if you read the post in the tech support area, you'll see a discussion about this. quote: uh, no offense but I didnt buy the game to read a book, I bought it to play a game. 'any game' huh hitman 1 or 2 just for a 'any game', and there are tons more I wont list. Boy, you done sure picked the wrong game. With that kind of attitude, I'm not surprised you can't get the mouse wheel working. You would have found the problem had you looked in the FAQ. But what do I know? quote: Their already out there... look around. You clearly missed the point he was making. Go back and read his entire post. He was talking about a Star Wars game with space *and* planetary portions.
  20. So don't use it [shift+escape]?
  21. quote: Originally posted by Outlaw: Installed the game, directx 9, and updated drivers as necessary, I got a low-end system so I turned most of the graphical settings off but the only problem I encountered so far is that when I'm in an instant action scenario or roam mode and I'm shooting lasers at ships they don't seem to take damage, specifically the hull. This is all during space combat. Read the manual about laser effectiveness based on range. And please don't use someone else's thread to post your bug report. Create your own post if one dealing with the same issue does not already exist.
  22. It is 100% dynamic And I think someone already has a table such as the one you are proposing.

  24. quote: Originally posted by Werewolf: You should definitely add this info to the manual addendum as I'm sure most people are as lazy as me and tend to place a single "LAND" waypoint. Way ahead of you. I already have it in the manual revisions file. Check the file downloads page. quote: BTW, a quick and easy fix could be to check during ingress whether there's only one waypoint, and forge in an additional waypoint a few thousand feet above the existing one.uhm, its got nothing to do with that. Flight dynamics are different from AI. The AI kernel - in this case - looks at the capabilities of the craft and determines the appropriate profile. Now why would I want to write extra code - possibly break something - when you lazy b*stards should just read the manual? btw, have you ever actually seen how they perform this landing profile - while you are either standing there (on the ground) or viewing the camera? It pretty cool. And for the dustoff (when it takes off), try it and see.
