Persistant Server - Player Saving
Supreme Cmdr replied to IceBladeTSW's topic in Universal Combat Series
quote: Originally posted by Codex: So did that change and it can now save the players files, or do you still lose everything when the server goes down? Nothing's changed. If the server is shutdown, everything's gone. BUT, the ability to have the server save its state is dependent on the server op because it is an INI setting. In this case, if the server op saves the server state (when everyone logs off), it can be restarted and the state resumed. Just like the single player - but a bit more complex. -

OK, this is cute, just cute. Yesterday I accidentally got wind of some jackass spammer using my [email protected] address as a return address for sending out spam. Funny enough, Mailwasher Pro actually flagged it for deletion because it was spam - even though it had my email address in it. So I downloaded it and inspected the headers. Well, take a look. I have archived like six of these and one seemed to be coming from a server at familypc.com which is hosted by Road Runner (those incompetent bastards) and I have send email to their abuse dept. Anyway, if anyone knows a way to clean up this mess, let me know. code: Return-Path: Delivered-To: [email protected] X-Envelope-To: [email protected] Received: (qmail 30336 invoked from network); 25 Nov 2003 12:39:13 -0000 Received: from h24-84-53-74.vc.shawcable.net (HELO 3000ad.com) (24.84.53.74) by qs292.pair.com with SMTP; 25 Nov 2003 12:39:13 -0000 Received: from leon-fdp7chah6b [24.84.53.74] by 3000ad.com with eSMTP; Tue, 25 Nov 2003 04:39:14 -0800 Message-ID: From: "dewey" To: Subject: Gener.ic Cia.lis - Lasts 2 times longer then Via.gra! UC Pixel and Vertex shader requirements

The last movie was 400x300 (half of the 800x600 display size). And I had it captured at that resolution because at 800x600 - even 640x480 (as the previous movies), would have been too large. Remember this movie footage is approx 16 mins long.

You don't need a 9600XT. Just pure 9600 is just fine. -

quote: Originally posted by Tac: May I suggest a high video quality, no sound movie to be released in the future SC? Like, that SMACKER/BLINK one that you released a few years ago, that had impressive video quality. After showing the demo movies to several real-life friend and linking it to some online friends, the general reaction was that the game had '5 year old graphics'... and of course, I was only able to prove my real life friends wrong by showing them BCM. Online friends didnt buy the 'the graphics get roughened up when doing the video capture' thing. Just some feedback . I don't have to prove anything to anyone. And I'm certainly not going to waste my time on a 200MB+ upload. So your friends are very welcome to bloody well think what they like. I don't give a toss. And if they don't grasp the concept of video loss due to compression, then they're just plain ignorant. Heck, I just watched the recent Harry Potter trailer and it was grainy and virtually unwatchable. Why don't you go show that to them and let them be pissed because they think thats how the film will end up looking when released. In fact, the original movie conversions I did were in DivX (173MB high quality) and then after something told me to check www.divx.com licensing, I realized that I'd have to pay to distribute movies encoded in Divx format. And I didn't want to violate their licensing by releasing them anyway - so I did the WMA format instead. The Divx conversion is lot better in image quality. When I said "daylight" I meant sometime in the early afternoon, clear skies, no storm etc etc. quote: Also, do marines have a limited range on their personal TRS or can they see everything "unaided" ie. all hostiles etc?Not sure what you're asking but the ranges in the TRS remain unchanged in this game. If you're talking about this VTT tags (the labels you see in fp mode), those are range dependent and are displayed only for personnel (hostile or friendly). In the future, all forces are tracked by ID tags; so, if you can see them on DIE radar, they can most likely see you too. I may disable the display of hostile personnel VTT tags in the final release (and just enable it in cheat mode), but at this point, it doesn't detract from the game to have them displayed.

quote: Originally posted by BuzzDee: The only thing that looks confusing to me is that all vehicles seemed to be stucked into the ground. Why that? I now this phenomenon from BCMG, where a vehicle is jumping below ground level. But no big deal, the game isn┬┤t gold now. I intentionally set the altitude of the crashed Blackghost gunship (yellow one), below ground because it crash landed. Since the game does not model visible damage, if it were above ground at the normal altitude, it would not look like a downed gunship. The other crashed gunship (Intruder) is nose up for the same reason. Haven't you played games where the state of certain assets is set depending on the scenario? e.g. a burned out car with no wheels? Notice also that unlike the marine AI in BCM/G, the hostiles are holding and defending their position (around the gunship) while waiting for an evac transport. In BCM/G, they'd be running all over the place and because they don't have the same AI kernel and rules. And that first sniper you see in the movie (the guy behind the hill near the down gunship), came from the gunship. He's actually taking potshots at us as we race to the location of the downed gunship. In fact, I cut to one of the EF marines he killed before he (the sniper) ran (away from the gunship, due to hostile fire) behind the hill. The firefight actually gets more intense when their rescue gunship arrives with even more high AI marines. But I had to cut it short since I can't give everything away. NN = Neural Net

There are 12 races in the game, over 25 castes and a set of no less than 20 model classes. Do the math and you'll see just how much work, time and money would be involved in doing a unique set for each race combination, let alone each race/caste variation. quote: Are you saying we'll also be able to join up space craft into squadrons or groups, like how you did for the marines with the TOM feature? erm, well yeah.

Today was the first time I'd seen the Hellboy trailer. Looks darn cool. Man, I love Ron Perlman. Glad to see he's getting more lead roles. I just hope its not another LXG
