  1. Consider this my contribution to the quest to take this thread further off topic. I almost fried my eyebrows tonite. It all started when I noticed that the Inspire 420W psu thermal monitor seemed to be on the fritz. So, I decided to swap it out for an Antec TruePower 430W unit I had lying around. Here I was, swapping stuff out. Then I flipped the power switch and all the lights in the house dimmed. A few moments later, my APC BackUPS Pro 650, gagged, threw up its overload warning light. And decided to head South thereafter. I swapped out the psu units again, and it worked fine. Put the Antec back in the and the UPS seemed to lift off the ground, take one look at me, and lit up all its lights. It wasn't until I put the Inspire back in (I decided to live with the busted thermal sensor for now), that it dawned on me that with the 430W of the Antec, coupled with the other units (monitor, PDA, etc) connected to the PSU, it was being overloaded. Boy did I feel stupid. Luckily I didn't blow up the house circuitry.

  5. Yeah, I'm a devoted fan of the SG series. I have never missed an episode. And if I did, it was most likely taped. That and Tremors

  8. quote: Originally posted by Jaypexx: SC, maybe you can replace the Quick Save feature with a Save & Resume feature, since that is what most of us do anyhow. Save & Exit should be used just for that, when you actually want to quit the game or that particular profile. heh, I've removed the Quick Save, in case you haven't noticed. Download the latest patches. quote: I'll siddown now....LOL!!! Good, save me the trouble of telling u to
  9. I was trying to look at your system profile but you don't have it in your sig. Instead you have a link to a website. Please replace it with your registration profile so that I can take a look at your rig and go from there. Also, start by uninstalling the game and deleting the folder. Then re-install. But instead of running the game, edit the shortcut and add /w1 to it. This way it will start in windowed mode and if there is an error, you will see it. Unless you can get the CD install to run, do NOT apply ANY patches. If the /w1 does not work. Add /n as well to bypass the intro.

I too think Costner gets a bad rap, but Dances was a widely acclaimed Oscar award winning film. I liked the Postman and Waterworld which were both panned by critics. Speaking of Tombstone SC are there any restored scenes in this version or a directors cut? I have seen Tombstone so many times that some of my friends and I can recite the dialogue word for word. (Sad, I know but true) Yeah, I liked both the Postman and Waterworld (to some extent. OK, so I'm insane). The DVD is the Director's Cut and has the usual crap. Best of all it has DTS 5.1, Dolby 5.1, THX, widescreen 2.35:1 enhanced for 16x9 TVs, a collectible Tombstone map, a "making of" segment and a bunch of other crap. In other words, your typical Director's Cut rippoff

  12. quote: Originally posted by cdyson37: New stuff! I downloaded AIDA32 and looked at the directX sound page - it lists all the buffers that dx can use - is it normal that they should all be 0 (0 there, 0 used)? Also, my card appears twice - I've got Primary Sound Driver, and SB Audigy Audio [9000] (emulated)? Is this normal? Are my drivers dodgy? Why did this have to happen to me??? Thanks all, Charlie. I have no idea and certainly don't have time to babysit your rig. You built, you should know what you're doing. If you've got duplicate devices, you need to locate all the drivers and put them in a folder, then go into hardware settings and remove ALL the duplicate devices, then restart. When the OS re-starts, it will prompt you again and you can re-install the drivers. You should only have to do htis for your video, sound, controller devices. Remove anything else and you're as hosed as a hedgehog at the North pole. Better do it in safe mode too, while you're at it.
  13. Start by reading the troubleshooting FAQ and following EVERY step mentioned in the section about the game not starting. And you should run it from a pure install before even attempting to patch it.
  14. It all looks perfectly normal to me
  15. quote: Originally posted by Hades: I'm having other difficulties with my computer. Maybe (please, God) someone can help me with them. Every single goddamn time I try to install something (games) from a cd, my computer freezes. Every time. Not every other time. Every time. It blows goat nuts. I've reformatted my computer twice and it still keeps happening. Except once. And that was... Battlecruiser Millenium Gold. Hmm... Something you're not telling us, SC? Got some evil computer virus whacking off (get your mind out of the gutter) systems? Hmm? This is really strange. Can anyone offer help with this? It will require a portion of my cunning... No.. no... all my cunning. Could be either a bad memory stick or a cable problem going to the optical drive. Check both.

  18. quote: Originally posted by cdyson37: Okay, my PSU is 350W - does anyone have any idea how I could tell if its overloaded (any particular voltages to look at in the bios screen or windows h/w monitor), or any suggestions about the max. amount of heat I should tolerate inside the case. If you don't know the answer to any of the above, you really shouldn't be building machines. Period. Seek out a professional. Anyway, you can download and run something like Motherboard monitor. The freeware Aida SysInfo also gives you a ton of info about your system.

  20. quote: Originally posted by Rattler: I think we're talking about "Dances With Wolves". Of course Anyway, the last best Western from Hollywood was Tombstone. In fact, I recently picked up the Special Edition release. I must've watched that a dozen or more times.
  21. OK, I'm a big fan of Westerns and own a bunch of them on video and DVD. In fact, I've collected every western that Clint Eastwood did and all Sergio Leone's works blah, blah. Anyway, Kevin Costner gets a bad rap (and I don't give a toss for critics, I liked Dances With Elves) but I went in to see a western and I didn't give a toss who was in it - except of course for Robert Duvall. This movie is damn good and I hope Hollywood starts making westerns again. The pacing was just right, the subtle violence well done and the gunfights reminiscent of classic westerns. If you like westerns - even if you hate Costner - go see this movie. At 2:18 runtime, you won't even notice how long it is. I plan on going to see it again - this time with the missus in tow. 10/10

  23. Nice try
  24. quote: Originally posted by Spindoktor: quote: ....and expect some big upsetting (depending on how BC gamers take it) news sometime around the end of September (or earlier). Ok here's my translation... SC wants to add features (unlikely) or get the existing feature set done right. Thus he would like to delay release to next Spring. DC on the other hand insists on a Fall release (maybe to help meet some end of year revenue target and/or jump on the holiday season coattails). The result? The two are heading for a divorce. BCM is keeping me busy so if delaying the game until the Spring brings a better BCG, then I'd welcome the news. How's that for jumping to conclusions. Wrong on all counts. Keep jumping
