Strangely, this only happens in multiplayer. oh? Does it happen before you join the multiplayer server or when everyone else is on the server? Also, what is the IP of the server you are trying to connect to? Does the server support 16 or 64 players? Let me know when you know

  3. Here is a similar discussion n00b
  4. quote: Sorry, I probably should have been a bit clearer. I meant that NPC ships were hyperspacing inside of planets and *dropping out of hyperspace* inside of the planets, and flying around inside of them. If that's not a bug, either most planets are hollow of the NPC ships have some neat planet-tunneling technology I'd like installed on my CC. Its not possible because they use the same rules of planetfall as you do. If they end up inside the planetary sphere instead of entering it, it is due to the relaxed rules for NPCs. If you ever see this happen (it should be rare), I'd like a saved game of it. If an NPC intends to enter a planet, it will jump to it. NPCs never enter a planet accidentally unless they intend to. And if they accidentally enter the planetary sphere, they should immediately correct their position and exit it, since they know they are inside it. This happens if you are dogfighting near a planet, too close to a station etc. quote: Hmm, so if I understand you right, you're saying that my crew is so dumb they think it's ok to repeatedly bump my CC's nose against Galcom HQ? Not quite. Collisions can be avoided but in some cases the response time is too short for any evasive move to counter an impending collision. It happens to you. It happens to NPCs.
  5. quote: Originally posted by Ben Zwycky: Just tried the space force marine IA scenario. Are you supposed to launch from a station in a PAS? (from start menu, select Instant Action, then only SFM scenario, get launched from the station in a PAS loaded with STS missiles) Also, the Add waypoint button in TACOPS seems to be disabled when observing a planet. Was working fine in 1.0.03 1. No 2. Nonsense. Learn how to actually use the systems depending on the asset you are using.
  6. quote: Originally posted by Guardian452: The problem is CTD's in the Alpha Majora-Majoris system near the start of the 2nd diplomat escort mission. I would estimate I've tried 25-30 times to leave the system using the Tau Ceti wormhole (on the way to Pluto or Centris to escort a diplomat), but 98% of the time I CTD before getting there. Once I've gotten to the other side of the wormhole then immediately CTD'd, and a few (maybe 3 or 4) times I've had no CTD at all and went on my merry way. Just tried it. Works fine here quote: There is a bit of action in the system due to the presence of a hostile Stormcarrier and I've had the feeling that the CTD's have been the result of some event like a missile launch/impact or similar....but I cant be sure of this. Not likely quote: I can supply the save games or more info if what I have provided is not enough. Thanks Until and unless it can be reproduced reliably a saved game which attempts to show a problem, is useless. The save game must reliably show the problem, not attempt it (as would be the case if it cannot be reliably re-produced). So, keep looking into it and when you have a reliable save game file, let me know because I'd be very interested in it.
  7. quote: Originally posted by JJ: um sc not to say your wrong on nething....just that the b5 freespace mod did come to fruition with a new version just being released, and i believe the earth-minbari war campaign. Was that the one for Freespace or Freespace2? If so, what features does it have apart from mindless, plotless space combat? [ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: Supreme_Cmdr ]
  8. As I've said before, I'm not inclined to get involved in any B5 mod in which volunteers don't live up to their expectations. There have been several attempted B5 mods (remember the Freespace one?) which never materialized. IMO, this whole business about doing a B5 game is plagued with problems stemming from incompetence, inexperience, lack of discipline and wanton disregard for the core and basic principles of game development. So far, and I don't care what anyone says, I am the only person on this planet Earth, who can do a B5 game (or mod) that is true to the series. Nobody has the technology (and am not talking about graphics glitz either. Thats the easy part)nor expertise or the discipline to start it and see it through. Period. Throwing money and a massive team at a game, doesn't guarantee anything. REGARDLESS of what you read, Sierra threw a ton of money at the cancelled B5 game. In the end, the people in charge (execs+devs) couldn't pull it off and left the company with no choice but to pull the plug. And I can't say I blame them. Just look at that other space sim, now almost five years in development and nowhere in sight. Yet another money and talent blackhole. So, all you guys can do for now, is dream about it. And here is one of my fav threads on the demise of Crusade. Pay close attention to KoshN's excellent post. [ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: Supreme_Cmdr ]

  10. quote: Originally posted by HiPingScoba: I have trouble saving my games. When I usually try to save, i am dumped to the desktop and recieve the message "Can't run 16 bit windows program insufficient memory. I have reformated my hard drive, installed the latest drivers from ATI, and turned down the resolution and video options in the system options menu as well as in the windows system and display menus. I also have closed all non essential processes( and havent even re-installed my anti- virus program) I am runnig a HP8655c 533 p3/256 mem/ati radeon pci 32 meg( driver 6_13_3276)/Windows XP. I have updated my BCM to 1004. Sorry can't help you. Thats not a BCM problem. If the video driver has a problem displaying the saved game screen (which is what that error indicates), get better drivers for your video card. There are quite a few ATI drivers floating around, especially over at www.3dchipset.com And WHY is this in HERE??!!???
  11. quote: Originally posted by Charles Lindsey: VTOL Bay ..and you can only enter it due to that seam in the polygons. Jason revised a bunch of models and removed such seams, I guess he forgot about that one. Anyway, most of the models are going to be revised in XP1 anyway.
  12. quote: Originally posted by Church: Well, I have read it (as I stated in my previous post)Ok, what drivers should I be using for win 2k? Thanks, Church ..........nevermind.....I have installed a clean version of Windows 98SE and will give that a go. Since you can get it to work I am sure I can. Thanks, Church Thats the ticket. Take one step forward (run a stable OS like win2K but with buggy drivers) and take ten steps backward (run a buggy and unstable OS like win98 and with even buggier drivers to boot). What can I say.
  13. quote: Originally posted by Geldonyetich: It seems that alot of NPC ships aren't respecting planetary bodies. They hyperspace right inside of them and fly around in the space under the planet polygon. If I try to hyperspace inside the planet to reach them, I'll enter the planetary atmosphere as soon as I drop out of hyperspace. Fortunately, my NPC controlled fighters and shuttles are able to fly around inside of planets in space mode just fine, so I'm able to reach those otherwise unattainable NPC ships. Just hang around next to a planetary body long enough (I recommend Earth) and this'll eventually happen - it seems alot of NPCs use the planet itself as a warp navigational beacon. ...and this is a bug because??? quote: I've ran into an interesting issue when I set my Battlecruiser to escort Galcom HQ. As my Battlecruiser's escort range appears to be substantially less than the size of Galcom HQ, my Battlecruiser just flew up in autopilot and bumped it's nose against it repeatedly. See above Then look at the AI of your crew quote: I've noticed that alot of hostile planetary ground emplacement guns just won't fire. The GTA missile vehicles or emplacements seem to fire (at least until they're out of missiles), but the gun turrets will not. Ships, as my bullet-ridden Battlecruiser demonstrated, seem to have no problem with this. Hmm, come to think of it, I might have seen an initial hail of bullets from the bases/cities when I first flew by. I wonder if the turrets just have an ammo limitation that shouldn't be there. See above Then read other threads which discuss target acquisition logic in detail. quote: Finally, I'm having occasional CTD without error and corrupted saves that lock up shortly after restoring them more than once. However, nothing consistant - I'm blaming my system for that until I get something more solid than that. See my previous post.
  14. quote: Originally posted by Skeletun: Yup Yup..These Avatars are great!! Easy to use to..I would say Noob proof, butchaneverknow. I picked out like 88 of them, but the UBB hack only allows up to 26. Once I figure out what is going on, I'll sort it out and more will become available.
  15. quote: Originally posted by Tim: In the Avatar list is: Custom. If you click on that it tries to download a (Forum Name).gif.Looks like personalised Avatars may be a possibility if bandwidth is available and someone (Not SC he far tooo busy) has time to sort it out. I use a custom avatar which cannot be used by anyone else. In order to use a custom avatar, the filename should match your PDN (Publicly Displayed Name). This is why only I can use the Supreme_Cmdr.GIF avatar image.
  16. quote: Originally posted by Guardian452: Alrighty now...is anyone working on the Fleet/Battlegroup Insignia avatars? I know you can put similar in your sig, but I think it would be cool to see Orion-Tsunami, Orion-Deterrence etc etc as Avatars. Brilliant idea!! Avatars should be in GIF format at 48x48 pixels and 256 colors. I can upload fleet insignia avatars to the server and fleets can use them. If someone who is not in a fleet uses them, an admin can just go in and remove it if the person (after being warned), does not.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Charles Lindsey: I chose avatar 4 but it's dead. In the downloaded folder it is avatar04.gif. But right click the dead pic and it is listed as avatar4.gif. Bet 1 - 3, 5 - 9 are the same way. The double digit avatars (IE avatar14.gif) seem to be working fine. Fixed. I guess who ever wrote the damn hack doesn't realize that in computer terms, single digits would normally be preceeded with a zero (0) for proper sorting. So, the geek that I am, named them with double digits. What was I thinking.
  18. quote: Originally posted by Oban: I cant seem to view them all in my profile update, some are just blank boxes.Just figured i'd let you know. Cheers You probably can't. I guess thats why I made the files available for download? sheesh
  19. quote: Originally posted by Epsilon 5: *sigh* I thought I could get rid of it... That was one thing I liked with those forums... no little annoying image... will there be a way to get rid of the avatar? Or enter a custom url for a av? BTW I noticed each time I go and modify my profile I must re-enter my CD-key... is it normal? [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ] If its going to make you quit your whinning, I'll just create a blank transparent GIF as Nova suggested. As for having a custom URL. Read my other post in the thread. The CDKEY is not a mandatory field and should have NOTHING in it. So, I dunno why you are being prompted.
  20. quote: Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: Perhaps you could change the default to a small transparent gif file. Only IMO, of course. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] No. If someone doesn't want the default Smurf avatar, they can pick from a choice of 26. Simple I think.
  21. quote: Originally posted by Epsilon 5: ACK! I don't want an avatar! I keep having the blue thing displayed! Don't change it to a non-existent avatar again. If you do, I will delete your profile. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Supreme_Cmdr ]
  22. quote: Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: Yep I noticed it when I got onto the forums. Um, the blank.gif image for those who don't have an avatar isn't working. And how do you set a custom avatar? Anyway, thanks for the cool updates, boss. (Edit--Oooh, cool. Just trying on a few avatars.... ) [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] oh? I didn't know that I needed to add a blank.gif for the default. The instructions didn't mention it. OK, I will create one now. To set a custom avatar (like mine) you have to upload the avatar to my server, then I have to update your profile manually. You already know the answer to that one I think: Its not gonna happen. Once I figure out why all 88 avatars are not listed, there will be more to choose from. And if anyone has avatars they want me to upload, then I'd like to see them first.
  23. I have enabled the use of custom avatars. You can access your profile and select from a list of 26 avatars. Though I have 88 avatars in that folder, for some reason UBB only displays 26. Still trying to find out why that is. You can download and view the list of avatars I have collected from around the Net. [ 01-03-2002: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
