I noticed my fighters (all 8) doing the same thing. Maintain course and speed and they will all dock. Yep. If you're going too fast for them to catch up, they will maintain that profile until their dock parameters are met. Try this [*]Launch 2 fighters and 2 shuttles on SAD or similar [*]Have the fighters escort the shuttles [*]While near a station, HALT the CC and activate the A/P [*]ALT+E from your CC and then jetpack over to the top of the CC slightly above its center point [*]Activate Tacops and give the launched units RTB orders. Now watch from that fp view what they do. If you are accurately positioned, one of them might do a flyby over where you are hovering. In fact, if you can, give one of the shuttles the HALT order, then jetpack over to it and land ON it. Then give it the RTB order; or even PATROL, if you want to see what it feels like to be attached to a craft thats moving. You may fall off, depending on how fast the craft is going though. When I tried it, I was on my CC and it wasn't going very fast, so I stayed attached the whole time. Pretty weird I tell you.

So, the only way it could have changed, is if you were previously screwing around with it (like overclocking your board for e.g.) Its not going in the FAQ because only a complete and utter fool (you know, like those other idiots who overclock their systems, vid cards etc and cry out about artifacts, stability issues etc) would go messing with manufacturers display driver settings unless they know the ramifications therein.
  3. quote: Originally posted by Church: [QB]Snark, I am having the exact same issues that you are experiencing. I even went as far as to flash my BIOS to 1008 for the Asus A7V133. Like you, I have done everything I can to improve stability on my end. I have a 4xAGPPro, but run it at 2x with fast writes disabled and the app set to 64 rather than 128.... (and I have tried every configuration available) I know I have the latest updates for my system (I reformatted and reinstalled w2K Pro) and my drivers (all current) but nothing seems to be helping me. I suspect a issue with the exe but since I can not reproduce it the same way every time, I don't want to post it here. All I can say is that I can get about 2 hours max of game time before it either CTDs or freezes the system - and the saves freeze shortly after I restore them. I have read the FAQ as well as all documentation on this site. I hope this is a issue with the app and will eventually be addressed because the Supreme Commander has made *the most damn addictive game* I have ever played!!!! Also, this is the only app on my system that is having a issue. You are not alone. Get proper and stable drivers. quote: Anxiously awaiting the new RC... You have a pretty long wait because the next RC has NOTHING to do with non-existent stability issues. If you have stability issues, its on your end. For one thing, using 2311 drivers under win2K/XP etc, coupled with the myriad of other hardware/driver issues related to VIA chipsets are the first sign of trouble. Like me, there are lots of people running the game for days on end, saving, unloading etc and not having such problems. As I stated in the FAQ, I am NOT interested in researching nor fixing ANY manufacturer driver problems. Period. I run the game on win98SE/winMe/win2K and winXP and have NO stability issues whatsoever. The FAQ contains a wealth of tips for addressing stability issues. You folks may want to, well, read it. And while you're at it, update your reg profile and add your forum alias to it. [ 01-01-2002: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

And that's all she wrote. The first time I just hoped it wouldn't happen again, but now that it's happened twice... i'm afraid to stop playing lest i won't be able to start again. Is there anyway to fix the individual save file or, fix it so it won't happen again or what? This will ONLY happen if you are playing with different saved game versions. Delete ALL the files in your SAVE folder and start anew.
  5. quote: Originally posted by Snark: I'm having ridiculous instability problems here. Go back to the 2280 drivers. The 2310 and 2311 drivers are extremely unstabled under winXP. Also install the latest VIA 4-in-1 v437 final drivers if your mobo has the VIA chipset. And you better find out PDQ what driver versions your other devices use, and update them asap. 6. Since this ended up in the Video thread, I'm posting it here. If you have an X36 and the weapons keep auto-cycling, check out the Controller Issues section of the updated FAQ.
  7. heh, I figured thats what he meant. And since I agree that its a flaw in the stick, thats why I have now added it to the FAQ. Thanks Tyrn!
  8. I use the 2280 and 2311 drivers on different systems here.
  9. Here is the thread where I discuss the business of NLPs.
  10. quote: So I sent out a shuttle to tow it back to my carrier. However, it couldn't dock with the fighter in tow. Never did figure out what to do with it. You can only bring back your own units into the CC (manual section 7.3). Normally, you would have your shuttle tow and deliver the ship to a station. You then get EPs and money, depending on the caste you are playing. quote: I'm also struggling a bit trying to figure out cargo in general - when I dock, is all of the cargo I might have picked up via floating cargo from wrecks picked up by shuttles, minerals mined by drones, etc. automatically available for trade? When you retrieve a shuttle, all its cargo remains in its own independent cargo hold. If you want to trade those items, you can dock (while your AE is actually flying the shuttle) with the shuttle at a station or starbase. But if you want to trade using the CC, you can dock and access them directly from the shuttle, or you can transfer them from the shuttle to the CC cargo hold. The minerals in drones also have to be unloaded in order for them to be available for trading. Be very careful when extracting cargo pods. Sometimes hostile NPCs will booby trap them by leaving a mine inside. The effect of this is that they will detonate based on proximity or when the TB is engaged. quote: First impressions: this is a game that demands a lot of study, a lot of time, and a lot of playing if you want to get the most out of it and enjoy it. If you want a traditional game that lays out a story for you, this isn't it - if you like creating a story in your mind, a la old fashioned role playing, BCM gives you a large universe in which to do so. Thats one of the strengths of the game...and one of the things that others consider to be its bane. In actuality, thats the game I set out to design and develop and so far, its the only truly freeform game of its kind in the industry. Period. Even the scripted ACM campaign scenarios are freeform in themselves.
  11. LMAO! @ R_Wilco As for JJ...
  12. quote: Originally posted by Jeff Lackey: Thanks for the replies - just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something (VERY easy to do in this game, with the wide variety of options.)My understanding and experience is that the SOS call only calls for a tow, not for military assistance, correct? - Jeff The reason there is no NPC communications is due to the scope of the game, the wide variety of race/caste options....and the fact that it was one can of worms I had NO intentions of opening up. In fact, there is a detailed discussion about that somewhere on the board in which I discussed my earlier plans for an NLP* (you can do a search using NLP and it might turn up the discussion) and which I subsequently canned. Communications will play a major role in multiplayer. HOWEVER, in my XP1 wish list, I have an item which involves requesting task force support from a nearby friendly station (without Fleet C&C), in the same way that SOS works. Of course, most people are going to abuse it, then come ***** at me when a massive 50+ ship fleet battle ensues and brings their PII 300 rig to its knees....because they created it. Fleet C&C gives you minimal support because it lets you requisition troops (in fact you can build an entire fleet of your own) from any friendly station, including roving NPCs. The manual contains an extensive discussion of this. And you can use the Playmod cheat to achieve the required rank if you don't want to waste time acquiring the required EPs.

  14. LMAO!! @ Jeff & Tyrn

  16. It is doing quite well actually. Especially since it is on limited exclusive released to EB until 2/19/02 I expect it to do even better once the exclusive period is over and the game becomes available everywhere; including international countries (still working on this and the holiday is making things run slower than usual). Once XP1 is out (sometime in Q1 2002), it will be available as a stand-alone (CDROM only add-on) as well as in a Gold type bundle with BCM.
  17. Lets try this again... BCM doesn't map any extended joystick buttons, apart from those listed on the keyboard. So, M1, M2, M3 being mapped have nothing to do with BCM. Anyway, I'm going to add this to the FAQ [ 12-31-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

I'm sure the amount of processing going on is sheerly monumental but it is sometimes frustrating for me to need to restart my computer every hour or so. I was just wondering what the deal is. A. There is a thread about this B. Check your system. BCM is very stable as far as we know. Besides, you're running 2181 drivers fer crissakes. And while you're at it, please update your profile properly. [ 12-31-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  19. You can't delete it if its not the current waypoing indicated in the waypoint box. Read the manual. Its in there.
  20. quote: Originally posted by Geldonyetich: Ah, so I place waypoints for my CC eh? Hmm, I wonder if it'll work if I warp to the planet without autopilot (which tends to take it's time getting to the planet). Read the manual. Its in there in the Tacops section.
  21. quote: Originally posted by Skeletun: All I did was move the switch to M10/M11 which isnt mapped to BCM. Still dunno what that means. BCM does NOT map ANY of those buttons. Period.
  22. Well, you do realize that you're not getting a prize, right? Why? Because I have no doubt that you used the Playmod cheat. If not, I will request the saved game because I can tell if the cheat was used or not.
  23. Read the announcements forum, there is a detailed thread there.
  24. quote: Originally posted by Skeletun: Hehe Hehe..I figured it out. It was the X36 Joystick. Button #9 was sending a constant signal to the game causing it to continuousl cycle weapons. Well thats certainly interesting. BCM does not map more than a couple of joystick buttons, so did you at any time do button mappings on that stick? So how did you resolve it? 25. quote: Originally posted by KreKol: When I play the game, I play in Roam. I leave the game on when I am at work and sleeping. I save it when I get online or have something else to do. So the point with that is I get days into the game. I have noticed that the longer the game runs, the less time the game will run constant without a CTD. My current game is dated 04/10/3010. 6 days into the game. One of my saved games crashes in a couple of hours and another one that crashes in about 10 minutes of running. It was driving me nuts. I tried all the normal things, reinstalling the game, latest update (version 1.0.0.3 to 1.0.0.4 RC1) and shutting off options in the config of the game. I decided to try a new game to see if it would run. The new game ran for around 12 hours before I shut it down. I then started loading older saves of the crashing saved game. The older the save the longer it would run. It has happened before with other game saves but I though it had to do with updating the game to the newest version so I always started a new game. I of course have saved games for a example. None of this is conclusive. Once you have conclusive evidence and a saved game from clean install, new game, etc pass it on. I (like a lot of the media reviewing the game) have saved games that a several days old. In fact, on one of my systems, I have a saved game that is on day 11. The other person who reported this and sent in saved games was also inconclusive. The first two saved games loaded fine on my end and had no problems. The third saved game he sent was corrupt due to tampering it would seem (but I'm not sure). Either way, it is corrupted and cannot be loaded. Corrupted memory can do all sorts of things and is also the reason you can have lost clusters on your HDD etc. So, run a complete system maintenance (ScanDisk, Defrag etc) before reporting this again and providing the problematic saved game.
