EB won't ship units to Australia. They only have North American rights. Surely you know that?!?!?

After all, we can't go around pissing everyone off, can we? Thats my job. Its bad enough with detractors on the prowl and me with a bullseye permanently tatooed on my back. Besides, we can ALWAYS tell when a reviewer has actually PLAYED the game. And if he doesn't like it, but posts a review indicating same, we usually just shrug it off.....or roast him to a crisp intellectually of course if he just lies through his teeth (e.g. that Game Genie review. Man that was embarrassing). The game is a niche and its not for everyone. We like it like that. This is a NO FLAMES site (you've probably noticed) and we're not very forgiving if anyone breaks the rules. We flame elsewhere, but not here - at home. [ 12-27-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  5. quote: Originally posted by [iII] Rick O'Shea: Ok thanks a lot. At least I can stop trying to figure out how to do it for now.BCM isn't a game, it's a place to live. I appreciate all your efforts on this epic endeavor, and I'm sure most of the rest of us do also. If there's anything I can do to help the project, let me know. No promises but I'll do what I can. My little clan. [iII] Iron ivy Inc, was born in a BBS game called Tradewars 2002, way back when Tradewars was a new game and Galacticom BBSs were a big thing. How fitting that III should find a new home in BCM / BCX. I hope multiplayer will be playable in a co-op fashion with saves and resumes possible. That would make engrossing mp campaigns / roams that could fit the schedules of the players. Being able to transfer to clanmates assets and command them in the clanmate's absence would be handy too. Not wishlisting as such, just thinking out loud. ...all fleets and corps can still exist in BCM mp, not just BCO.

  7. Lets see if I can address all your questions in one shot [*]The marine career has several IA scenarios. These serve to provide missions other than ROAM. [*]In ROAM mode, as you said, you can use the DJP to infiltrate an enemy base, get back out etc. Thats how most fp shooters work. And no, in ROAM mode, you don't have any friendlies to work with, in the much the same way you don't have any in other career - except in some IA scenarios which provide them. The marine and pilot careers are designed to shine in the mp aspect of the game, where they are most critical. A typical mp scenario would have several teams defending their base and in which each team could have marine or pilot human players up against each other. To get to the enemy (in ROAM) use the DJP, thats what they are for. And you don't need a vehicle. In mp (and in the sp mode of the XP1 add-on), you will be able to commandeer crafts based on your caste/career/ep e.g. a human EFP with, say 50 EPs, will be able to ditch his fighter and grab another. [*]In a future pre-mp patch, I am planning on enabling fleet C&C for the marine and pilot careers. This will enable you to request forces (marines or crafts) from a starbase and lead those forces into battle against another ground base. I planned to put this in BCM at shipping, but abandoned it due to time constraints. [*]Time compression is not implemented due the adverse effects is has on the game's AI kernel. To raid an enemy base, use a DJP. You won't be able to use your vehicle with it, however.
  8. It works the same way, regardless of race/caste/career selection. Check the manual p7-8
  9. They will only fire when they have an accurate lock solution. If that pilot is skilled, he's not hanging around long enough for your turrets to get a lock. And once they get a lock, if the target is not in the same position for the designated seconds, the lock will cancel and the turret has to reacquire. It works this way for realism and to minimize the number of AI ticks. The AI processing for turrets (especially on stations) is very intensive and it is minimized where possible.

It kinda gives us all a warm fuzzy feeling. And am sure they'd rather listen to your ramblings than mine. Bastards. [ 12-27-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  11. 1. Before anybody responds, add your system info to your sig 2. If you're not running the latest 1.0.04 RC1 patch nobody is going to respond because everyone is assumed to be running the latest version of the game. So, apply both the 1.0.03 and 1.0.04 RC1 patches and come back. 3. Its nothing to do with the game. It is definitely a video driver problem. So, upgrade your drivers (saying you have the latest, doesn't mean much around here. Provide the ver number). [ 12-27-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  14. JJ, see if this flame-retardent jacket fits. You'll be needing it. /me handing over worn out jacket to a puzzled JJ
  15. As I indicated in another discussion, I fleshed out my world, aliens, castes etc, a long time ago. Most of my ideas cannot be realized in a single game, so, most filter into subsequent series. As such, what you see above is bound for BCO, along with what I posted about explorers etc. I MAY enable the ability to build cities, bases, stations etc in XP1 - but don't count on it. 20. quote: Originally posted by Joe Redhawk: I'm still having trouble registering my game. What sort of problem? If its rejecting your CDKEY, its probably because either (a) you have the number wrong (confusing and OH for a ZERO is likely) or ( you have already registered and just need to login. Send all such issues to [email protected]
  21. I totally agree with Jeff and Denny Atkin, another industry vet (who has recently wrapped his BCM review for CGM - he also did the Beta preview for an earlier issue) discuss this from time to time. Even a couple of freelancers (e.g. Erik Sebelin) have posted about the same thing here. Its really difficult to capture the feel of a game. And once, as a developer or gamer, you know the game inside and out, its very easy to poke holes in it (OK, that Game Genie review was just embarrassing for them) when the reviewer slips up (ignorantly or otherwise) because you've had that much time with it; time being the luxury a reviewer doesn't have in most cases. As we've seen, there are have been several BCM reviews with scores we thought were low or glaring holes in some of the premise conveyed, but some have really great writing (e.g. the GameSpy and PC Gamer ones) and do exactly what Jeff says want to steer gamers who would like the game to it, and gamers who would hate the game away from it and do a lot to convey what makes the game good and/or bad - all in one. At the end of the day, it is always up to the gamer to determine if, even with a high or low score, good or bad writing, the game is their cup of tea. Game review writing is like game development : you never have enough time* and at the end of the day, you never have enough space either. *The features I disabled or left out of BCM due to time, (aside from multiplayer, which is another beast onto itself) are just about 3-4 months of dev and testing. No kidding. Hence the XP1 add-on. In fact, the VCF alone already shows some of those tweaks and additions creeping in every now and then, amidst the fixes.
  22. quote: Originally posted by machitis: My system specs are as stated, except I believe I accidentally put PCI instead of AGP for the vid card, and I've updated all the drivers to the latest. Your specs are stated where? I don't see a link to your profile in your sig. Anyway, you might want to clean your system (you know, format, re-install OS etc) and go from there. From what you describe, there could be a renegade driver lurking in there somewhere. btw, 2183 are very old nVidia drivers.
  23. quote: Originally posted by Church: I am convinced that I have helped my self with going to the 64 meg setting. Not sure if this will help you as much as it has me. I already have that in the General Issues & Stability section of the FAQ. Its item #11 in the first question. quote: In regards to the warning about being a hacker, please don't take offense to this, but it put a smile on my face. I never accused you of being a hacker. I only explain what hackers do and why SD is critical of any debuggers being in memory. quote: Thanks again for the response. I must say, I have never seen such good support from a developer in all my life of computing. You're welcome. Thanks for your support. Enjoy the game! quote: BTW: When I ran Win 98, there was a program that was called, end it all. It basically shut down everything except the systray and explorer. Is there something like that that will work for Win2k? When I hit task manager, there seems to be a hell of a lot more there than there was in 98. If not, what can I safely end task on? Thanks in advance. Unfortunately, win2K and winXP are different beasts. You cannot safely shutdown everything without breaking something. There may be a version of that program (EndItAll I think its called) floating around though. If anyone comes across it, let me know too.
  24. quote: Originally posted by Jerold Keenan: I need the game to register, and it's not my fault EB games aren't sending my order!BELIEVE ME! I WILL TO REGISTER AS SOON AS I CAN!!! I fail to see what that has to do with your sig. If you haven't registered the game, get rid of that convoluted mess (read: specs) in your sig, until you do.
