  1. 1.0.02 RC5 is out.I need EVERYONE to start using this version - even though its not official - so that we see if stability issues are related to prior save games being incompatible. This patch WILL delete ALL detected saved games.

That is all I was saying.Strange that you say that my opinions are not valid because I am not "experienced", especially when this is the "first impressions" thread. Not the "after playing for a month" thread. I was merely giving my first impressions as Derek requested. I agree. And I think I have an idea of what Soback is trying to say, though he worded it in a manner which would seem a tad confrontational. Hopefully he will clarify and edit, when he sees this.

And watching Resnig get eaten by various semi-sentient floura and fauna would open up a whole new dimension of entertainment. Don't see why not
  4. quote: Originally posted by Estevon: OK. My first impressions.1. Why can't I order a crew member to change locations in Perscan? If my ship has been boarded, I have to make multiple clicks, leave perscan and go into tactical (or is it logistics?) to add more marines to the hunt. 2. If I am deep into the tactical computer, and I need to get back to the bridge, it takes multiple clicks to get back out. 3. The FPS keymappings are FUBAR. Shift+W to run? I know that some of these can be remapped, but c'mon. Shift+w? 4. The particle effects emanating from the engines of most ships are great, but a few look kind of corny. I believe one of them is the N-fighter with the rainbow colored exhaust. 5. The woman who says "more power" on the bridge over and over is pesky. I remember her from the first iteration of BC3000. Also, the voices of the marines are a little TOO enthusiastic. But these are just little things. 6. If I so much as click on Miscon, I CTD, but that is for another forum. 7. Can we please get some sort of audible cue that the turrets controlled by the PTA are firing? Other than that, I'd like to say that you did an excellent job on the documentation, Derek. I only wish that the manual included specs on the ships that I'd expect to encounter in space. I guess I'll print out the appendix HTML page. Heh, I realise that I am still new to BC:M and I still have yet to figure out how to turn on the tractor beam, but I'll get it all worked out eventually. Summary: Great work, Derek, but the UI needs some work so using it isn't, well, work. [ 12-03-2001: Message edited by: Estevon ] 1. Because PERSCAN was not designed to do the job of Tactical. It is a view only system for tracking personnel in real time. You don't have that in Tactical. 2. You must be kidding. Either press F1 or move your mouse to the top-right corner, drop-down menu shows up, you log off. 3. W is walk forward. If you want to run, toggle the mode using BACKSPACE. If you don't want to use SHIFT+W, don't. That mapping was designed to work with the swim mapping. 4. I fail to see why this is an issue. I designed those for variations. Considering the number of ships in the game, I was lucky to have come up with that many variations. 5. You're right, they're just little things. Dunno why there were important enough to be mentioned though. 6. Not here. In fact, MISCON is a vital system and if it had that bug, it would have been found and fixed by now. 7. No. Even then, you won't be able to hear them, due to their proximity from the bridge (some crafts). And the fluctuating PTA indicators on the bridge are indication enough that they are firing. You talk about minor annoyances, but how many people would want to hear 10 turrets firing - all at once? You won't hear anything else even if the volume were increased in order to compensate for your position on the bridge. As for the manual, that sort of info belongs in an appendix - which is exactly where I put it.
  5. quote: Originally posted by JelloKing: Actually the extract drone waypoint doesn't have to be anywhere near the mining drones and they don't fly to the drone either. They fly to the way point then the drone pops on board. I even did a little playing around and droped drones 1 and 2 on one of Mars' moons and the drones 3 and 4 on the other moon. Next I entered the atmosphere of the second moon, placed extract drone waypoints for all four shuttles on this moon, and launched the shuttles. When they got to the waypoints they picked up the drones, even the ones from the other moon. Not terribly realistice but it sure makes extraction quick and easy! That should only happen in debug mode because it makes testing easy. heh, some debug code must still be active. Will look into it.
  6. Fix your sig Paris

No. How are you even to issue a tow command with a hyperspace craft as a target? [ 12-03-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

I certaintly don't want to become a thorn in the side of this community.Oh, and where did you put that new beta patch? I can't find it. [ 12-03-2001: Message edited by: Urza ] I didn't say you were annoying or a thorn. Quite on the contrary. Reading about issues that I cannot reproduce and/or explain becomes annoying after awhile. The 1.0.02 RC4 patch is not on the downloads page because its not final. You can grab it here. [ 12-03-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  10. No, because you can't target it.

  12. Just wait for mp, then you'll start to see a lot more different race/castes. Also, the fleet DB is undergoing some revisions to take into account all race/caste combinations.
  13. quote: Originally posted by SmileyMan: Thanks Soback, although I know that the shuttle can find the drone wherever it is on the planet. But overland travel is sloooooow, what I want is for the shuttle to planetfall right on top of the drone and then head back to the CC. I can do this by sending a fighter into the atmosphere with "Wait For Orders", allowing me to Zoom To the drones and then set Extract Drone waypoints targetted at the drones themselves. This is what I do at the moment, and it works fine (the shuttles get back to the CC real fast) but the initial sending a fighter bit seems a bit superfluous (because my scanner could detect an enemy ATV for instance without needing a presence on the planet). Setting the waypoints as you said would mean a long overland flight for my shuttle (might get those marine AIs up though )Mitchell - thanks ever so much for your info. I didn't realise the areas were configurable like that. Cheers all, Smiley I'll see about adding the drones to the Tacops Zoom To menu.
  14. quote: Originally posted by Barron Morris: Well I have had the game for four days now..and was just thinking to my self how lucky I was to have no problems with the game..then BAMM two issues sprang up from no where. I Have surfed the board all day, and to my knowledge they are not covered.issue 1 (minor)- While on the surface of Otura-6, I viewed the Alpha Cygni system via probe1. I selected to observe the planet LV-105. I was able to view the planet..how ever all though the planet looked different the mission zones apeared to be the same as the ones on Otura-6(not sure if thats the way its suposed to be or not) also my command craft was displayed as being on this planet in the same area it is in on Otura-6. This is also the case with both moons in this sector. issue 2 (not so minor)-I decided to leav Otura-6 after a long day of mining. When I reach the altitude to leave the planet..and hit the o key it crashes hard. I have reproduced it three out of three tries. I have flown this same mission the day before with no problems..the only difference is this time I decided to leave my drones behind to continue mining. After I finish this post Im going to try collecting my drones to see if it makes a difference. Shots 1. Learn how to use your probes and how they affect the observed region and the region you are in. Start by reading the manual. 2. Have you got a saved game? If so, send it to [email protected] . Leave drones behind has no effect on your ability to leave the planet. And if you could reproduce this reliably, didn't I recently posted about running the game in a window, in order to see the error message that is displayed if/when the crash occurs? And that error window is from winXP not BCM. This means that it was an OS crash. [ 12-03-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  16. quote: Originally posted by Zuul: Maybe you oughta take a better look at my system specs Soback. My system runs any game on the market at full speed 1280x1024 full screen at 32bit flying at 60fps almost always. I can even go into 1600x1200 mode easy if I wanted to.I never stated I didnt like BCM. I think the game is great, but it has stability issues that need to be addressed. This thread alone will have over a thousand posts with stability problems by the end of the month if not closed. Dont take my word for it, take everyone elses that are having the same issues with the game crashing and/or freezing constantly. I refuse to reboot the cpu up to 10 times changing system settings just to get a game of BCM in, then when I'm done playing resetting all system settings back to full power again resulting in another 10 reboots. Don't tell me that isnt just plain ridiculous and extremely tedious. No game is worth doing all this for no matter how good it is. If you for one minute think that BCM will run at 60fps at 1280x1024 in 32bit mode on a P3 866, what have you been smoking? And do you have any left? And please explain to me what tweaks you do, which cause you to boot the system 10 times. I'd like to know what it is you're doing.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Mr_Paris: Okay Boss File Sent ....lets crack this problem.... Got it. Going to check it out. In the meantime, play with another profile and leave that on as-is, in case I need you to run some tests with it on your system. btw, apply the 1.0.02 RC4 patch and let me know if you have the same problem. Start a NEW game, not a saved game. OK?
  18. quote: Originally posted by Zuul: I already know what fixes are needed to stop the crashes/lockups, but you are asking us to reconfigure our whole system every single time just to play BCM. Why should we even have to do ANY of that to get a single game to work!? Don't tell me its my system configuration either at this point. Like I said, I have games that are a hundred times more graphic and memory intensive.... And if those fixes do stop the crashes/lockups, what exactly is it I'm supposed to do? Random lockups/crashes (instabilities) are ALWAYS down to system configuration. If you don't like it this fact, well, you're on your own because thats the way it is. 19. btw, if you are using 1.0.01 saved games with 1.0.02, don't. I have noticed that even though the patch DOES delete saved games, some people (Urza) are backing up the saved games prior to patching, then restoring them after patching. ....and then they wonder why the system is unstable.
  20. quote: Originally posted by WetWare: OK, I'm not a newbie, but these questions seem to fit here:1. I remember reading that leaving your CC for long periods of time can and is harmfull for the CC. (It's true, I've tried it) Would you be willing to share exactly under what circumstances your CC will start taking damage when no other ships or intruders are a factor? 2. I was able to deploy Space marines using a shuttle, (I read above you're not supposed to) in space, Is there any way to retrive them? I could not for the life of me do it. Maybe the SC could make a way? Perhaps the transporter could be altered to retrieve space-borne objects? Could you imagine the look on an enemy marines' face when he just materializes in your transporter room facing about 8-9 guys with guns? Also I would like to be able to target a ship and give them a few intruders to deal with. 3. I've had some cargo pods sitting on Moon2 in Lyrius for about 2 hours now, will they remain there indefinatly? and finally ... 4. Is there any way to hide your craft in space so that it doesn't get intruders when a big ship pops in? I've tried sitting in out of the way places well out of radar range, with my radar turned off. The reason I ask, is with all the searching my marines have to do, they don't get a lot of time to sleep, and they get cranky, and one even took a potshot at me the other day... Thanks, WetWare 1. A cloaked ship for one 2. Not sure how you did it (you must have used the shuttle cockpit menu), but no, you can't retrieve them. And no, there are no features going into BCM. Maybe in XP1 the ability to deploy and retrieve SFMs will be supported. Anyway, I'm curious to know how you got them out there in the first place. I need to plug that hole. 3. Yes. At least until someone comes along and steals or destroys them. 4. Yes. Buy a lot of Iridium and stay cloaked
  21. quote: Originally posted by Count_Sessine: Gents,A quick, newbie kind of question. I'm not sure it's a bug - but I don't think so. My game is completely bugfree. Brillant. Here it is: I deployed 9 marines on the surface After some shooting around, there was only 4 left. I promptly Evac'ed them to the BC. On the BC I looked at Perscan, and there it said that my 4 remaining marines were now on the ship, and that I had an additional 4 left behind on the planet who were radiated, injured and poisened with an alien disease. When I checked, and then rechecked, the planet mission area, there was no sign of them anywhere. I sent a shuttle on a extract team mission, but it returned empty. Is this a feature or something else? Can you see their TTD on the map? If not, did you try to zoom to one of them using the Tacops/Zoom To option? Do you even remember where you left them?

  23. Fixed. Looks like it will only happen under certain circumstances.

  25. quote: Originally posted by Steve Conley: Hey guys;I posted this error before, and was told to go through the uninstall/reinstall download new patch/use new patch process, which I did, and I had been playing almost constantly since then. Well, I've gotten the error again, so I'm posting about it cause I wonder if I'm going to have to reinstall EVERY time I get this damn error :-P Here it is: I save my game with the quick save, and I approach a station for docking. Again, I have intruders on my ship; but I'm not really damaged, the intruders are all on teh shuttles or dooking around in the corridors aimlessly. I've been to this station MANY times. It's basically my base of operations. I probably visit it every couple of hours. I dock, I see the pretty picture of the inside of the station. I click "Login", and I get a crash to desktop. I reboot, I restore my game, I dock again, click "Login", and crash to desktop. Now, if it was -really- a bad install, wouldn't I have already crashed on the many, many other times I've visited this station? I sure hope I don't have to re-start AGAIN, I finally got my ship 100% upgraded ;-P Thanks! Steve Send the saved game to [email protected]
