...it'll be a surprise. Even to me, if it ships on 09-03-01. Maybe EB knows something that I don't. Anyway, I'm deliberately not going to update the VCF once BCM goes Gold internally. So, once you read about it in on GNN, it will be a surprise.

SC quick questions..don't eat me please :-)
Supreme Cmdr replied to Hunted's topic in Battlecruiser Series
quote: how will they be transported between planets and systems and such....MULTIPLAYER WISE I MEAN Using IDP pads in single/multi player. You don't see it in the VCF because I commented it out because I am not sure whether it will be in the first version or not. If you download the current VCF, you should see the entry commented out, just above the 2.3.09.04 entry. Here is easy, for the lazy: Implemented InterDimension Jump, IDP, technology. This works similar to existing jump technology. It allows you to hop from one IDP pad to another, within the same planet. In debug mode, you can hop to IDP pads on any planet in the galaxy. When you enter an IDP pad, a menu consisting of the valid IDP locations, pops-up. From here you select the desired destination. After responding to the Y/N prompt, you will be transported there. This tech was implemented because in some career modes (marine), due to the vast planets, there is no way to leave your friendly base to go and attack a hostile one. Even using a vehicle can take too long. With IDP, you can hop from location to location at will. The FP mini hud displays the heading to the closest IDP pad and is shown as an inverted T on the heading scale. Notes: IDP pads use derivatives of tech used for the HSD artifact All mzone scenes have two IDP pads. More will be added for multiplayer, along with portable IDP units IDP pads cannot be destroyed You have to be in FP mode for an IDP pad to activate It doesn't transport crafts or vehicles (only in debug mode) and won't activate IDP pads are restricted to the current planet (except in debug mode) and only show list of IDP pads on current planet To prevent abuse (in non-debug mode), (a) you can only use an IDP pad every 15 mins ( it reduces your LF by 5 units each time you use it. You can also hitch a ride on vehicles that allow passengers. [ 08-28-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -
quote: SC, me returning BCM, Actually, I wasn't talking about you specifically. quote: are you crazy? uhm, thats debatable. But I think you already have the answer to that one. quote: If I have a safedisk problem I will be bugging you untill you help me solve it and I can play. No way will that stop me, I have waited way too long for that. ....as if I figured any different. heh [ 08-28-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Ok, how many people found this excerpt from Gamespot, odd? Independence War 2 is perhaps the only space sim that effectively conveys the immense distances involved in intra- and interstellar travel.

Some idiot who has been banned so many times at VE, its not even funny.

quote: I was curious as to how they assess this. Do you provide them with a details of the game content and they make a decision based on that, or does someone from ESRB actually play some of the game and make their own judgement (much like film censors)? Both. There is a 20 page questionnaire and a 2 page contract. You fill it out, send to them along with a check for the fee, as well as the CDROM (Beta or Gold are acceptable).

Soback, calm down, alright? He's RIGHT, most if not ALL problems with SafeDisc are either (1) legacy drive related or (2) program conflicts Lets see.. If you can afford to buy a new processor, you can afford to buy a better CD-ROM drive. Most gamers upgrade their CPU and RAM in order to run some apps. Other devices, such as CDROM, floppies etc, are NOT exempt from this equation. Same rules apply for ANY program. If you're going to run a program, ESPECIALLY a game, you MUST disable ALL other progams, INCLUDING virus checkers etc. Macrovision have a support area which deals with all of this. If you have a SafeDisc problem, you can either (a) report it or ( investigate it. This is NO different from ANY other computer related problem. e.g. uses with motherboards based on VIA 686B Southbridge chipsets, have problems with SB Live! boards. How many people do you think have access to this article? Didn't you EVER have to tweak your machine in order for it to work with some piece of hardware or software? Didn't you ever have to troubleshoot said machine? And the use of SafeDisc is NOT free. I have to pay PER UNIT royalties. You think I want to blow money away for no reason at all? Better yet, why would I opt for a deterrent which would only aggravate my gamers? The average BC gamer is computer savvy. As such, if there IS a problem with SafeDisc, they can sure as hell troubleshoot it. I never envisioned my install base as being a bunch of whinning lazy ass babies. As such, the LAST thing on my mind was "...oh, those babies are going to b*tch". The thought NEVER crossed my mind and as such, I'm not going to lose ANY sleep over it. Anyone who is pissed about the use of SafeDisc, has the following choices: Don't buy the game If you have pre-ordered it, return it If you buy it and have a problem with SafeDisc, report it, as normal. To every issue, there is a solution. The game is only 300MB on the CDROM. If there are programs which allow you to LEGALLY make copies of SafeDisc encoded CDROMs, use it. If there is such a program that allows you to LEGALLY bypass it. Use it. Its your CDROM and as such, you can what the heck you like with it. As long as it is LEGAL and within the limits of the EULA. If you order it, take it home, copy it and try to return it. You'll be shocked because you will ONLY be given another copy of it. [ 08-28-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

SC quick questions..don't eat me please :-)
Supreme Cmdr replied to Hunted's topic in Battlecruiser Series
As of now, yes. The rest of the crew already wrapped up their BCM work about two months or so ago and are working on stuff for EFC+GCO. I'm the only one on BCM, wrapping it up, doing whats left etc. The others have already answered -
...uhm, wasn't this thread supposed to be about THE MOVIE? OK, unless you're going to post about THE MOVIE, clear out!! NOW!!!

Just IGNORE him and he won't get ANY of the attention he's craving. Its that simple.

A production time frame can run from 10-14 days, depending on volume. There is usually a rush fee if you want something like 5-7 days turnaround, depending on company. Production for BCM encompasses the following Obtain ISBN number (can't do box without it) Obtain ESRB rating (can't do box without it) Macrovision Safedisc contract (can't replicate without it) Keyboard document (can't do layout without it) Manual document (can't do layout without it) Keyboard template layout Manual layout Box art + layout CDROM art Manual art (front/back graphics) Box production Keyboard template production Manual production CDROM replication (w/ SafeDisc encoding) Packaging (CDROM goes in Tyvex sleeve;CDROM+keyboard sheet go in manual;manual is shrinkwrapped;shrinkwrapped manual+cdrom+keyboard sheet go in box tray; box tray goes in box; box is sealed; next box All of the above, excluding the actual Gold master CDROM, go into production at any time during a game's production phase. The only issue is that the manual needs to reflect the game or you end up with a manual that has incorrect text, resulting in a massive readme file which then goes on the CDROM. It is not uncommon to have all production materials sitting in a warehouse and awaiting the Gold master CDROM. [ 08-27-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

hehe, Joel has a point. I'll think about it, post-release. Remind me again after BCM ships, Joel.
-
...I might release it as a post-release patch, at some point in the far future and on some Russian site.
-
...anyone caught posting just to bump up the rankings, will get their posting priviledges suspended indefinitely. In fact, I've bumped up the requirements.

quote: Yeah, I was doing my annual readup of the VCF. I am quite impressed with the amount of work done in five days, What makes you think it was done in five days? Do you know what WIP means? It means Work In Progress. This means that are being worked on, in tandem, parallel etc. Most WIP items rely on other items, which is why they are WIP tagged to being with. Thats how come some items magically are marked as one, when a primary one they rely on, is also done. Those entries in the latest update, have been WIP for about four months or so. Most just weren't enabled because they relied on something else. I don't enable WIP items because it reduces the number of Beta reports. quote: and I thank the SC and the 3000AD staff for all there hard work. Me, you mean? I'm the only one left putting it all together, cleaning up etc. quote: So as I was saying, I read that you are diabling all of the blood splatter, and was wondering if I could re-enable it once I purchase the game... No. Once you get an ESRB rating, you can't go back and alter the game, because that will also alter the ratings. And that will breach the ESRB agreement - and thats where lawyers get to pay for their vacations, new car, new house, liposuction etc. There is NOTHING to discuss. In fact, the game can't be hacked because, I didn't disable it, I REMOVED it. And I will also be removing the textures used for it. You don't need blood in a game in order to enjoy it. While I was only planning minimal use (no limbs falling off etc, something the game does in fact support i.e. DeD), any depiction of blood, no matter the level, gives you an M rating. I don't need the aggravation. In BCM when you shoot someone, they fall over in one of several death animations, and a few seconds later, are vaporized. I'm not even going to model the BMP9's head shot kill. It used to take someone's head, clean off. Thats all gone. [ 08-26-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

$ilk, what the heck is going on with your sig image? It doesn't seem to be displayed. If you can't fix it, get rid of it.

Just some quick questions about Diplomacy
Supreme Cmdr replied to Hunted's topic in Battlecruiser Series
The answer is yes. In fact, it should be in the VCF. Do a search for 'remember', 'attack', 'NPC' etc -
Yeah, that, and putting him in a compressed airlock and watching him pop.

As a Carpenter fan, I went to see it late last night (what?!? I couldn't sleep!), across the street. About an hour into it (right at the point where they finally show the heads on stakes atop a hill...and then the leader was in the canyon lobbing off, yet more heads) - disgusted, I left. I don't like movies which depict ultra graphics violence such as this (I could tell you why, but then I'd have to kill you) - gives me the shivers - so I left. Did I miss a fun movie, or just some gore that didn't make the movie any better? ....I knew I should'a gone to see Rat Race instead [ 08-25-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
