oh, I forgot. If you guys think am harsh. Her is just a sample of the kind of shit I have to put up with. quote: From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: pick a day and stick to it Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2001 01:54:44 -0500 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4522.1200 thanks much for getting up on there and all.... just get me the game and let me be the judge. i'm beginning to laugh every time i see you moved it back...once to my birthday and though i might get it then. To no avail obviously. granted you have an impressive task, your busy, yada yada yada. but the truth be told your release goes anything like tribes 2 and your done buddy. no more releases for you as your credibility goes to hell. bringing me to my next and final portion of my own little soapbox rant that i'm sure will be completely overlooked in your BUSY BUSY life. the constant pushing back makes us hardcore gamers nervous, if it doesn't work on some of our bizzare systems (mine for example is 1.3 athlon 1/2 GIG DDR and the clincher VOODOO 5 5500) we'll wait till you get all your patches out pirate the game and pay you squat cause you screwed a bunch of people from the start, like TRIBES 2. i'm not saying i'm this person, i really want your game to work, play like i hope, and allow me to waste many many more hours in front of my already keyboard worn interface to entertainment. in short get it out soon don't screw us! maybe i'll just make that the subject cause it's all you'll probably read anyway Now, how would YOU respond to something like this? Here's my response quote: Do me a favor. Go **** yourself, and don't send me ANY more email [ 08-16-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

quote: I see the bugs getting squashed in large strides here lately. Soon as those pesky WIP issues get handled we can start obsessing again, (as if we haven't been already heh, you guys ain't half as bad as the newbie Beta testers were (the new gits on the block) late last year. Which is why I have WIP *and* bug sections in that VCF. It is a deliberate deterrent aimed at preventing them from flooding me with bug reports about known issues. EVERYTHING in that list is already in the game. I have a WIP specific section because I haven't internally wrapped up those issues yet, and until I do, I don't encourage reports about them. So, one day you're gonna look at the VCF (and though the lower sections will be gone), you'll be seeing version numbers like 0.01GC (GC = Gold Candidate). And then, finally 1.00 Gold and there will be much rejoicing in the land. Get this- apart from some of the known wishlist items which I defered to a post-release patch (e.g multiplayer, orbital approach, STO silos etc), my wishlist is currently about 17 items long!! (no, don't ask, am not making it public), so there will be a lot more to come, post-release.....assuming I have the time of course. If not, there's always GCO or the yet to be announced BCM add-on. Anyway, I'll leave the VCF online a tad longer - we don't want any mass suicides now, do we? [ 08-16-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

...fer someone who doesn't even have a rig to run BCM, how do you plan on running the game with any craft of those specs? Do you have ANY idea how much processing is required for 60 PTA turrets?

Amen! btw, I've update the VCF [ 08-15-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

quote: Hope you guys can eventually fix this in the BCM demos and the full game for Win98/2k multiple partition users like me. ....and how EXACTLY do you suggest we fix something that (a) has NOTHING to do with BCM ( bears NO relevance to BCM? This, I've GOT to hear And the Installer is not some arbitrary program. It obviously looked at your D drive because either (a) you executed the .EXE file from it or ( you have your TEMP variable pointing to it. Doesn't it strike you as odd that the OS you are installing it under, is under D:? Doesn't it then stand to reason that, somehow, its using the OS drive? Think man, think!! quote: Battlecruiser is not a "WASD" game, so it's too complicated. LOL!!

quote: Particularly the section at the very end. As it gets shorter the release date draws closer; as it grows the date gets further. Speaking of which, we haven't had an update since the 9th of this month, hint hint... Thats because (a) I haven't uploaded the current version yet ( that version will be the last public version, as I have now cleaned up that bottom section (the VCF is already too long) and am maintaing that TODO list in a separate file on the secure server. From where am sitting, if I were to guess, I'd say that BCM should be in stores by the middle of September. All things being equal. quote: I pre-ordered it at a swedish importer a while ago that said they would take in the game as soon as it were released. Now, should I change the pre-ordering to EB's site instead (yes, I don't care if it's gonna cost me anymore. GOT to have this game...) or wait and hope they get it in a resonable time? You might want to ask them just WHO they plan on getting the game from. Considering that only EB and 3000AD (via my BMT Micro e-commerce site), will be selling the game until I sit down and go through the aggravation of dealing with international distributors. You'll NEVER get the game from them, because they will NEVER get it from us. We don't sell to distributors. You had better cancel your order and go place it with BMT Micro via our SALES page here on the site.

quote: When you put ships in the game, do you have limitations? No quote: I mean, If I wanted a ship 5 kilometers in length, with 60 pta turrets, 20 main guns and 48 fighter, going at 30km/s and that the jumping time would be 5 seconds, the shields 12k and armor 50k, could I? Yes

quote: Anyone who is developing install scripts, I highly suggest using Wise Installer Pro. It doesn't yet bow to the Microsoft Windows Installer foolishness that InstallShield does. I'm gonna kill you!!! I've only just last week, forked out $164 to upgrade from ISX 3.03 to ISX 3.5!!!

quote: 1) I have modified the image called "BCBRIDGE.PCX in order to delete the 3 guys floating in the upper part of the image; using the window search function I see that exists only 1 image called BCBRIDGE .PCX (of course) and looking at it with a painter program I could see my modified one. But in the game I see again the original one ... how it is possible? I have tried to start a new game but it doesn't work. The PCX image is not used directly. It is converted to a different format and stored in the BC3LIB3.RES resource file. quote: So my question is simple ... IS THERE A WAY TO PLAY WITHOUT ENEMIES? Or I have to modify also the alliances? Set AUTOGEN OFF in your script as I did in the Free Flight scenario (which I later set back to ON via a !signal in the same script). Simply look in the FF script for the AUTOGEN ON line, and comment it out or delete it. You won't need to mess with the GLOB_AG.SCR file, either, because AUTOGEN OFF will cause that file to be ignored. Then parse the file and copy it to the relevant folder. You will STILL be attacked by hostile stations or any other AI entities, created by the game. btw, there is a forum for GBS scripting. In the future, post stuff like this there. And as Aramike pointed out, hacks like changing the bridge bitmap, are not supported. GBS scripting, is. [ 08-15-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Do we have to go through this in EVERY thread? Its like this. Because of pre-orders, there HAS to be a date. That date is NOT fixed. Its dynamic. Why? Because until it goes Gold, that EB page has to be updated. Would it better to put in a date in 2003? as opposed to updating it every 2 weeks? Or would it be better to put Summer 2001 instead? I tried that, but thats not how EBgames.com tracks their games, pre-orders etc. If you can't stand it, don't f*cking go to that page! Hang out. Twiddle your thumbs. Go fishing etc until you get a brilliant idea and actually checked my own GNN page for news of the game going Gold. Once it goes Gold, its a two week stretch to production. Whats the big frigging deal? quote: Hm. I've been lurking here, ever since my first few posts at the top of this thread. With a release date this unstable, there's no way I'm going to preorder, even with the promise of extra goodies. Still, to each his own. Yes. Thanks for sharing that particular bit of USELESS information. I'm sure we'll all benefit from it. Now go sit down. quote: I just wonder why, SC can't make a firm release date for his own game. It's true, that all games are ready when they're ready, but committing to a specific day usually keeps things from dragging on. I could understand not telling all the fans the date, to keep them from complaining if it's pushed back, but it doesn't seem like he even has one, considering not even EB seems to know, what it is! You're not very bright, are you? At any rate, I can't wait to start reading complaints about back orders, not finding the game etc. Any time I see a post like that, the person is getting BANNED. NO questions asked. There is a SPECIFIC reason why those e-commerce pre-order pages went up. As I've said before, I know for a FACT that most who haven't already pre-ordered or at the very least, in the upcoming weeks, are NOT likely to EVER get a copy of this game, at least for about 3-4 weeks after its debut in North America. All you'll be getting are back-ordered notices, while EB waits for me to do a second production run. You're acting as if ANYONE is forcing you to do anything - or as if the dynamic date is some life-altering experience of sorts. Apart from that, nobody gets billed until the product actually ships. So, I don't understand what the big deal is. You have been warned. [ 08-15-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

I have a different version. Charles, don't pass yours around (you can send to individual people if you like). I will upload to File Planet sometime this week and post the link.
-
The rebates and any offers, are limited to North America only. I may end up offering the map for sale (as I did with the one from BC3K v2.0x), but I am undecided. If I do this, an order link will appear on our sales page.

quote: Red faction was supposed to be Descent 4... but they played too much with the stuff and it transformed a mine-ship game into a fps miner revolt game. uhm, thats categorically false. Interplay own the Descent license. They cancelled Descent 4 when Descent 3 failed at retail. They also passed on Summoner. Volition were then forced to break away and sign with THQ, who later ended up buying the company. Red Faction has *no* relation to the Descent universe. None whatsover. Where the hell did you get that idea from? [ 08-15-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

uhm, I'm not going to encourage these POINTLESS threads, because if everyone who gets approved to post, decides they're going to post a new thread on it, the board will get cluttered. So, everyone, clear out of this thread, NOW!!

Nothing to do with the BCM demo. Try clearing out your C:TEMP or C:WINDOWSTEMP folders. Thats what the temporary location is refering to. You may want to run ScanDisk too.
-
Does anyone remember the BC Tactical Engagement module for BCM, which I uploaded (a 20MB file) back when I terminated that project to focus 100% on BCM? I think I called it BCTE.ZIP or somesuch. Is it still available online? If not, let me know and I'll re-upload to File Planet, and put these newbies out of their misery.
-
uhm, whats wrong with Red Faction? I have the PS2 version which I have yet to play. And I haven't downloaded the PC demo yet. So, what gives?

There's no coupon in the box. So, take your proof-of-purchase to the store, explain it to them, and get the coupon. btw, I haven't announced this yet (nor has EB), but folks who pre-order their copy before 8/31, will get a copy of the full color 27"x27" galaxy chart. This is the same map included in the 5.5"x8" printed manual (as in the boxed v2.08/9 units) - though the one in the manual is still in Black & White (the manual is not in color). I have this new map on my wall right here (I signed it off into production yesterday) and it looks freaking awesome. [ 08-14-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

quote: But will there be some sort of interiors in shuttles? Since when did shuttles qualify as capital ships? *sheesh*

There are no font changes in either demo. If you uninstalled the E1 demo, it will uninstall the font. If you install the E2 demo, it will install the font. The only way you'd get different fonts, is if you botched the install/uninstall and the font used is no longer registered. To fix this, go to Control Panel/Fonts and install the TTF font located in the DATA folder where BCM is installed.
-
The manual is not a programming item. What would it be doing in the VCF? That kind of stuff goes in the private Beta forum and bulletin areas. Places you don't have access to. [ 08-13-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

I have a LOT of joysticks here (these manufacturers keep throwing shit at me, probably hoping that some if it actually sticks), but I like my Cyborg 3D Gold the most.
