Well, I dunno if there is someone in my press mailing list who knows Playnet. But since I sent this article to my press address book (Voodoo Xtreme just posted it), the site's been down. Its still down as of this writing (my attorney can't get in, to check out the exact wording of what he posted). Go figure

I'm sure MS will still release Freelancer but I doubt that it will be anything stellar. Pretty graphics no longer guarantee great sales or gameplay. They just help. MS cancelled the DA Conquest title just last month, now this. Makes you wonder what the hell is going on over there.

Yeah, it sucks. I feel sorry for him though. The problem is that since 1996, they've only done one product (which failed miserably at retail), Starlancer. MS canned Conquest. Freelancer and Loose Cannons have taken too long in development...and its been almost five (5) years with zero return on investment!! Any company would be pissed. See, thats the problem with using someone else's money to do a game. Once you are committed to a publisher financially, something like this, can and will occur. Its inevitable; especially with the current industry climate. Sad really.

Nah. You didn't miss anything. It was a pure DirectDraw hack that I did in my spare time. If you want it, I can dig it up for you. But if you are so anxious to play a WIN9x version, why don't you apply for the Battlecruiser Millennium Beta Test program?

You can play the game in the default 640x480 or go as high as 800x600. No need to buy a new graphics card if you don't want at this point. Wait until you get the game next year, then make that decision. At which point, all the vid cards would have dropped in prices. Why don't you apply for the Beta program? If you are accepted, you will be able to check your system specs 3-4 months in advance of release.

There are no graphics changes between 2.08 and 2.09. So, the graphics card is probably not the issue. Did you remember to delete all saved games in the SAVE folder? Did you apply the correct patch? Are you running the software version and not the 3DFX version?
