quote: I was taught to read intel reports very carefully heh, this suspiciously looks like you are in the service in real life? We have quite a few of your buddies here actually. As for those stats, impressive. As for the crew AI, I'd suggest you leave them onstation until they are about to drop with exhaustion At least now we know that the crew AI requirements for the artifacts, work, which explains why most of them don't work. heh, doesn't look like you've had a free ride. And yes, please zip and send me your game files to [email protected] I'd like to see them. And send me another set, once you've completed the last mission in TOD4. The files you need to send me are in the SAVE folder. I don't need the .SG? file, just the raw files. So, if you were playing with, say, profile1, (the 2nd slot in Roster) you would send me player1.cmd, player1.cml, player1.log, player1.sav And did you say you were going to remain onstation in Gammula - decloaked? Oh boy... btw, what are the specs for the machine you're running the game on? [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 08-16-2000).]

Yep, Gallion is right again, regarding the state table. He used a non-programming term, stats. And btw, check the Version Control file and search for Fleet. This should take you to the Fleet C&C section. There you will see that even if you get Fleet C&C, if your ship and crew don't meet with certain criteria, it won't work. And I really think you should go over to Obsidia and grab the HSD artifact from the UCV-Monolok. Thats going to make the Droidans very, very pissed at the Terrans btw and you'll be lucky to get out of Omega Eridani, let alone clean out of Syrion Quad. Its patrol route is obsidiaz,alterisz,droiaz,mondialz,sarienz,tareanz,lv125z,lv130z, so you have to do some searching in order to find it, assuming that by TOD4, it is still around. It could have returned to its base, destroyed, etc You should have done this way back in TOD1. I'm surprised you didn't do this once you got the intel report back in TOD1/M1. With the HSD, you can zip from one end of the galaxy to the next and be able to repair your ship quickly. Unless you have a fleet with you, I don't think you stand a chance of taking on the Gammulans being so far away from a friendly or neutral station. And if you think you're going to get RANDOM or its decoder, without a fight, you're in for a nasty shock. Save often. LOL!, here come the recruiting watchdogs!! Multiplayer is coming, so I guess the recruiting efforts are on the rise. hehe.

OK, I see whats going on now. I was going by the printed 2.08 manual, not the online version. Sorry about that, I didn't think to check the online manual because I think the UK pages match the online version, but the Australian one I'm looking at, doesn't (don't ask). As for the artifacts, I made some changes in 2.09 which affect their use and requirements, as well as AI requirements. These are listed in the VC file. If those artifacts you have work without being analyzed first, it can be either one of these conditions: Cheats were used JO's AI was at a high level but got reduced due to some injury or fatigue during the game time When I changed the requirements, I either (a)reduced her AI requirement for analysis or ( I disabled the analysis requirement entirely, relying only on the other conditions that do make the artifacts work. Eitherway, if you do get the other artifacts, don't be surprised if they don't work. btw, I noticed you only have 5 of the artifacts and you are on TOD4. You should have gotten 8 by now. And don't tell me you've be flying clean, clear across the galaxy on raw power, without the HSD artifact! And I don't think you've done anything wrong to lower your crew AI, the fact is, unless they are on-station, in the library, on an off-ship mission, their AI won't increase. And no matter how high it is, it will drop if they are injured or tired, for extended periods. And yes, if you rotate them too frequently, you are killing their experience rating because they don't learn jack if they're on their room playing cards (and you wonder why a pair of intruders can run rings around a bunch of marines any given Sunday)

Wow, thats pretty impressive!! I see you are a serious player indeed. In the other thread, I thought you actually cheated to get those artifacts (I just played it safe by not flat out saying it ). If you're as soon as you seem to be, you should be in my beta team. I doubt that any of those fairies actually go this far in ACM in such as short time (well maybe Pandora did). I would be interested in your save game file when you have finished ACM and located all artifacts. The first time you actually use RANDOM, you'll get that feeling of guilt. Just wait. btw, what is your current rank, EP rating, medals earned, finances etc? It would be really cool if you posted a state table here, of all these values, as well as the values for your crew, once you finish this last ACM mission. Hint: In order to find the RANDOM and its decoder, be sure to scan all Gammulan entities (ship or station), from this point on, before destroying them. And once you've got both, check out the version control file on the downloads page for use. Then go try it on a Gammulan planet. You're going to be in their territory anyway, so, why the hell not.

If you have obtained all those artifacts by cheating, then it negates the whole premise of them learning how to use them or JO even bothering to analyze them. If you obtained all those artifacts by playing the entire ACM, and she doesn't have a high enough AI, I wonder how you actually pulled that off. And where in the manual does it say that personnel have to use the library for their studies? Page 106 (dunno what manual you are reading, as this does not appear on page 122)of the manual, describing JO's state, is very clear. I should know. I wrote it. They go there periodically on their accord and it doesn't affect their AI to the extent that you are imagining. And if you actually read Appendix C again, and compare the required to operate description of the others, you will see that required to operate is quite different from JO's AI requirements in order to analyze the artifact for use Once she has analyzed the artifact, in the case of the Celestial Orb, it just works. In the case of, say the HSD, even after its analyzed, in order to operate, it requires all the listed items plus the listed personnel requirements. The Celestial Orb does not require any personnel to operate. it just works just like the Appendix says. This is exactly why I didn't want to spend time writing this because its pretty clear. Also, even the version control file has an extensive listing of changes to the artifacts usage.

Reading the manual would be great start.

quote: FF has no "characters" other than those you directly control and so most activity naturally centers around your current location. In the ACM, scripted ships trigger events whether you stay in one location or not. That statement, in its entirety, is incorrect.

Small bug found in BC3K 2.09.
Supreme Cmdr replied to Jan Knutar's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
hmmm, that sounds pretty odd indeed. Dunno. I'll take a look in the BCM code to see if anything fishy is going on in there - just in case. No, FEs don't have to be in the shuttle in order to prep them for launch. -

They do, but like the Interceptors, it depends on a lot of things. eg flight engineers, systems state etc. Have you ever had a shuttle that won't launched due to insufficient charge? -
hehe, I just checked it out. JeffK needs to be locked up in a padded room.

...and the bug is?? -
I don't think it has anything to do with the hard drive. He's got a bad install. Period. Uninstall the game. Reinstall. Patch from 2.08 to 2.09. Unzip the Voodoo2 drive to the folder where the game is installed. Run Sound Setup. If you send email to the support email address, you'll get an autoresponder back with detailed steps.

Yeah, I saw that on opening day. Quite fun.

Its an old baseless rumour. Something about me kicking the Take2 office vending machine when they informed me that they were shipping my game incomplete and in Beta. Didn't happen. Just some more lies. If I kicked a vending machine, I doubt that it would be something for me to worry about, to the extent of saying it didn't happen when in fact it did.

quote: So when the marines are on the hostile ship, we can engage in FPS and take over the ship? No. Its handled based on AI, just the same way its handled when hostiles board your ship. So, if you send 10 brain-dead marines over to a ship, you'd better have a letter composed and ready to send to their next of kin. And no, you can't tell how many crew the target ship/station has or their AI levels. As such, you can observe their combat status by simply observing the away team status window. oh, btw, none of this in fully functional yet.

quote: But I do remember it and the fact that Derek could enable/disable that characteristic with a few keystrokes. Wish he had. Yes it's a wish but not a really loud one. I know you are working on BCM. Besides; Derek says they work differently now. That intrigues me. I always thought they were very accurate if you were close enough. Though they do have to compensate for the ship constantly changing position in an AP "follow target" mode. IE the pta just gets its lock and starts firing when the ship decides to pitch or yaw to follow the target causing a recalculation. Fun to watch. Annoying to experience sometimes. Its different because of multiplayer. Apart from the auto-centering, the turret has an auto-lead target and an ATAS (Auto Target Acquisition System) cluster. This allows it to quickly pick out the nearest and most dangerous threat (like the PTA) and you can just fire at it. Or you could use the TACSCAN. It how has a TACSCAN/CVD mode too. quote: Honestly, it really doesn't matter all too much to me. I like the idea of the BC's point-defense being automated. And, for the most part, I command my BC via TACOPS when in battle. Hell, to me, TACOPS is the best thing since, well, the wheel! The reason the changes were made is due to multiplayer in which a player can occupy any of the slots in a craft. So, in the case of the MK3 BC, you could have 3 different people manning the 3 turrets, while someone is flying, another doing target acquisition in tacops etc. Each capital ship can have up to 16 slots (some fighters even have 2 so that you can even be a marine sitting in front of a view of outer space, while praying that the moron piloting, actually makes it to your drop-off destination. Didn't we discuss this before? Or did I put this in my dev diaries? (must have -
Yep, I got a very nice and cordial email from Eric about this yesterday and today. Regardless of the original fiasco, its good to see that they are upholding their polices. Everyone be sure to send your thanks and thoughts to Eric for the effort. And no grandstanding either!!! Keep it simple and to the point.

I guess nobody noticed that the poll had been hacked? I got an ICQ from Aramike today and when I checked, lo and behold, they hacked the results from the poll server (not our server). I have contacted them and removed the poll from the site pages. Take a look at this hacked poll results

quote: When the next BC game comes out, attitudes will change dramatically. I doubt it. Its not about the game. Its about me. It stopped being about the game a long time ago. They just use the game as ammo because there's absolutely nothing else, tangible to use to attack me. Nothing.

Its not about the game per se. Its about me. Its personal. I don't let them get away unscathed, by insulting me, like the other developers do (they have to suck it down because they answer to a higher authority) - I cuss 'em right back and move on. Boy, do they hate that.
