  1. I'm a cartoon geek, something I try to hide in the shadows. I have every Daffy Duck cartoon I know exhists on tape. I'm gonna put my two cents into ya'lls thought process; If DC reaches their goal, then I'd go ahead and buy it, thats what I was gonna do. Otherwise, if by the end of the month DC hasn't reached their goal, buy it if you can't wait any longer and donate 20 bucks to SC, like I'm gonna do. Hell, he's probably making more money if we all donate anyhow.
  2. Cool, on the note of the Ovlfs, there's a version of slackware out now using it. Its called SLAX. I'm thinking of making my next project getting PHLAK running with the Overlay Filesystem. Shouldn't be too hard, but I forget what version of the Kernel PHLAK runs. You can get SLAX at http://www.slackware-live.org/.. Its well worth the download. It also has instructions on how to make your own live CD of your favorite distro. On another, more BC related note; wtf is up with these n00bs. I take back anything nice I said about them. Some of these guys are total idjits; I make a motion to vote to have a moderator suggest that all the vets do what was done when BCM and BCMG were released. (Pulls action back on .45) BRING IT ON!!! Oh, and Cruis. In, if price goes up or DC unfortunately wins, are you gonna get the game at all? I dunno, it just seems a little unpractical to wait so long for a game that you enjoy, then just not buy it at all. Honestly, even if DC did win this whole thing I was still gonna buy it after the fact. Its better to support SC a little rather than not at all. Oh well, stupid father didn't realize what he was doing. I guess I'll enjoy it since I'm getting it. One last thing. When UC comes in the mail, I'm planning on writing a n00b guide if anyone wants to help me. Although is anyone else here getting the game?
  3. quote:Originally posted by Pugwash: 35M in recovered files, and a couple of corrupted directory names. Hmmm, is that 35 megs? You should have been able to retrieve more than that. If you know anything about Linux, I'd suggest seeing how many more files you can recover using PHLAK. http://www.phlak.org Its a live linux CD meant for the security professional. I use it on Windows machines all the time to fix issues such as viri, reg problems, and the like. You have to recompile it yourself to be able to access NTFS, but it doesn't look like that is necessary on your nieces computer. If you're linux savy at all I'd suggest trying it. P.S. Phalk is actually a Live CD Version of linux with apps to recover lost files and the like. It writes nothing to your computer. If you are Linux Savy you'll understand what I mean by this; No, it doesn't contain Overlay Filesystem, so you need a zip drive to save files.
  4. My father (who lives very far away from me) ordered me and him both copies of UC because, well they're so cheap for a good game... He's getting my copy sent to me here at school. I feel like I let you down SC; At least it wasn't my own money. Boy, I hope DC doesn't reach their target, I'd hate to see 3000AD make UC unsupported. Or worse, stop production of all future BC games.... Oh, and is it still ok to donate? If so, how long? I'd like to make a donation once I get some extra money.
  5. I have some bad news to report. My father, knowing that I've been waiting to get UC, called me today and told me he bought a copy for himself. This is the bad part; he bought me a copy too since it was only 20 bucks. Hell, honestly I'm glad he bought it for me, but I'm disappointed as well. Guess that sort of nix'ed any issue I had with purchasing the game. I'll be honest though, once I get the money, I'm going to donate a little to 3000AD. SC deserves extra money for this, I'm sure. I'll tell ya'll what I think when I recieve it sometime next week (after my new vid card that I ordered comes in of course.)
  6. Well, I decided to spend a little extra money and get a Radeon 9000 Pro for $67. I couldn't afford anything more expensive than that. The 9200 seems good at first, but after reading review after review, the 9000 Pro is faster, but doesn't have 8x AGP. This is totally fine, being as my mobo only has 4x . Unfortunately both of these are DX8.1 cards, so they only have VS 1.4 and PS 1.1 support. This should be good for me for a while, until the summer when I have a steady flow of cash.
  7. I'm not really interested in the GeForce FX5200 because of its benchmarks. Its top score on 3dmark was about 300 less than the Radeon 9200s, and the Radeon is cheaper. I think I'm gonna get this card when I put my paycheck in today. I talked to a guy down the hall this morning who's got one, and he loves the thing.
  8. Ok, well, stupid me, as per usual, overlooked the fine details on something of importance. This time it has to do with my video card. I've got a Geforce 4 MX, which, suprisingly enough, has no vs/ps capabilities whatsoever. This leaves me to find a new graphics card for my computer. This is proving difficult for me. With all my knowledge of computers and sound cards (after all, sound is my career) I know jack **** about video cards. I'm on a tight budget here, so how does a Radeon 9200 sound for UC? http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9200/radeon9200/specs.html Its got vs/ps 1.0 shader support (1.4/1.1) and on 3dmark.com it scored about 1000 points over on basically identical machines as my own compared to Geforce 4 MX 440 machines. I found it really cheap on pricewatch. I mean really cheap. Should I buy it? OH, and one more thing, I've looked at other prices on-line, and the 9200 is about the most expensive I can afford. If somebody knows where I can get a 9500 for about 55 dollars (including shipping) though that'd be great. Forget that, this is the last thing, I promise. Linux users, and I know you're out there, what do you think of ATI's cards for Linux. The 9200 has drivers for linux, but Redhat doesn't have it on their compatibility list. Not a big deal if fedora doesn't already have the ATI drivers installed, I can always just run crash level, which is pretty much failproof, but X11 is what I'm worried about. Please, give me feedback. Now I go to sleep, I have no idea what I wrote in that last paragraph other than its about linux, so don't ***** at me.
  9. Well, I've made my decision. I think I'll wait. WHY? Simple, my video card I don't think will support it. Reason is vertex shaders; I don't think the GeForce 4 MX cards support Vertex Shaders. Soooo I think I'm gonna have to buy an old GF3 TI before I can get UC. I hate Nvidia for this, they seriously led me on with simply saying that they don't have the "Dual Vertex Shaders" Support in the GF4 MXs. Made it sound like they have it, its just like the old GF3 TIs Vertex and Pixel Shaders. This really pisses me off to be honest. I wouldn't have bought the GF4 had I understood that. *Sigh*
  10. Ok guys, I need counseling. We all know about the UC issue. This is leaving many of us in sort of a bad issue. Should we wait, and see if the price goes up (never thought I'd say that ) or do we purchase it now. This is where I need counseling. Ok, a few of ya'll know I'm a college student, who unfortunately works in the worst paying field ever for someone who isn't graduated, Sound Design. I can't decide if I want to jump on my chance of getting it at 20 (thats all I've saved up so far) or if I should continue to save and get it at 40, if the price indeed goes up. I seriously can't decide, its like a moral dilemma. If I wait, I don't forsee myself getting it for several months; definitly not before school lets out at the end of March, which is when I go back to work full-time at my home theatre. If I get it now, I enjoy the game I've waited paitently for. Its just I'm afraid to purchase it because of the fact that it'll go to support DC in this whole dispute, won't it? Jesus, this is crazy, I'm having a moral dispute about a computer game...
  11. Awesome SC, I can't wait!!!
  12. Here. I'm putting the ship into spacedock for a few weeks while I get this current show on the road. This time its "The Illusion". Wish me luck, this design (Sound this time, hell yea!) is becoming the design from the pits.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Chavik: Weegee. Splad. Quit yer griping! Be glad you weren't educated 20 years ago. I have an "Advanced Academic Diploma" (the highest you could get) that didn't do squat for me because my school system was so far behind the times I still had to take remedial college courses. You know; the ones numbered 099. My college tried to make me take some too because of where I was from, I CLEP'ed out of them before the semester started. Yea, I was just gripin'; just makes me pissed to see what used to be a good public education system shot to crap. As for online courses, I don't really dig them. I took a VectorWorks CAD Course last semester online, since I need it for my major. Unfortunately I don't get credit for it, I just have to know CAD, they don't care how I learned it. As for the course, I just didn't dig it. I really like the teacher to student communication (Hence why I'm going to a Liberal Arts college with a 1:20 teacher:student ratio.) it just makes me feel more comfortable. Plus when I didn't understand something the teacher half the time would e-mail me back with almost insulting e-mail messages stating the most obvious things I could gather from the lesson for the day. Hell, AutoCAD (Which I learned in High School) and VectorWorks are two totally different programs with little in common. The 3d rendering is what got me anyhow, not used to that with CAD. But anyhow, yea, I just am pissed to see a good public school system go to the pits below.
  14. My roommate had a similar problem. Update everything on Windows Update. I don't know what it was that fixed it, but one of the updates fixed all of his problems. Try this, then tell us what your status is.
  15. Guys, this isn't even funny... {rant} A little background, I live in Georgia, go to college in Georgia (At a very good school too, I'm pleased at how much better the curriculum is. They actually teach us knowledge, WOW!) and went to High School, in unfortunately, Georgia. For the past two years, our Govenor, and his appointees at the State Board of Education, have slowly been destroying our already **** public education system. Standardized test scores have gone up, knowledge actually taught has gone down. One example is my reading of Fahrenheit 451 in my junior year of high-school. My teacher nearly got fired for making us stray from the curriculum to read that book. His theory, was that it was in the curriculum from the year before, so why shouldn't we read it? The reason our county school board removed it was because they were in the middle of trying to get several books, including Fahrenheit 451, banned. Here's another thing. Adv. Placement Courses, for those who don't know, allow you to get college credit for low level college courses before you graduate from high-school. This year, they started a rule that you could not take an AP course and pass it if you failed the AP Exam. Ok, thats all cool and stuff, but the AP Exam is supposed to be optional. Typically, only about 8 out of 30 students pass the AP Exams. Why are they doing this? Simple, because they cost money. This shouldn't be a problem right? This is education we're talking about. Truth is, they're taking money away from what could be used for, and I **** you not, Laptops for all of the board members. The Public school system is Georgia is pure crap. Whats even worse is that these "socially conservative areas" that they're talking about are the rich, elitest areas, like where I'm from. Sea Island (Golfers should know this place) owns not only where I live (Glynn County/Golden Isles) but practically the whole state. They can literally pay of anyone in Georgia except the Feds and DNR(Sea Island refuses repeatedly to follow laws concerning the marshes of Georgia. The last thing I read concerning this is that the DNR gives the marshes another 10 years before they die from overdevelopment; Welcome to Jersey Part Deux). Many of these "conservative" areas are highly church controlled. When my family moved to Georgia, my father, who was a National Park Ranger Law Enforcement Officer at the time, literally had to threaten to arrest people for trespassing (We lived in Park Housing; my father was Chief Ranger, so he was required to live on site.) because they were coming to "save us from the claws of hell". Kind of funny being as we went to the Lutheran Church, but down here in Georgia, thats not a respected church. Hence this is where the whole evolution **** comes in. I did a project for biology on evolution and I had a peers mother take me aside one day and talk to me about Jesus. Please, spare me. My Biology teacher had to issue waivers at the beginning of the Evolution and Darwin Theory Unit in our Biology class for students whose parents didn't want their children to learn about evolution. I think 6 students in our class of 27 came back with the waivers signed, all from middle and upper class families, 2 living on Sea Island. In Georgia, especially the Golden Isles, it doesn't matter what you learn in school. All that matters here is who your parents are. Welcome to my hell. Somebody give me a plane ride back up to Philly. {/rant} EDIT: OHHHH, Almost forgot, and for theatre people like myself, if you say you work in theatre, they think that means you just do a few plays in church now and then, unless of course they're not originally from the area. We do have a lot of sane people come from up north. But they only stick around for a few winter months and don't really care about the school system.
  16. I'm signed up, we'll see just how good they made this.
  17. quote:I beg to differ. I have had games with the last two tiles were on top of each other. But it's probably an unprovable theorem.Hmm, thats odd; its probably a 1 in 1,000,000,000 chance. Actually, there could have been a different sequence earlier on that would have removed that tile on top. We'll never know unless you get that exact stack though.
  18. I have't played that one yet. Currently the only Matrix Games I own are Desert Fox and Lost Victories. I've thought about getting Korsun Pocket, but don't have the money right now. Uncommon Valor looks pretty cool too, but once again, don't have the money. Besides, I need to save up for UC. And to add one to my list, almost forgot this one. This one falls under the hard to master category though. Mahjonng. Computer or no computer, doesn't matter, this game is difficult to master no matter what. I forget how accurate this is, but this comes to mind, some chinese/japanese Philospher once said concerning it "Mahjonng takes a few minutes to learn the rules, but a lifetime to master" Or maybe that was concerning Chinese Checkers, but either way... still a hard game. (And before somebody says "But you can't remove all the tiles all the time" Thats rubbish. If you don't remove all hte tiles you loose the game. Duh! There's always a correct sequence to remove tiles.)
  19. WWIIOL. Hard friggin game, esp. the tanks. But once you get the hang of the lack of suspension, its very rewarding (As long as you don't play on the Frenchies side, PZIVs just sort of run circles around them and blow them to bits using the nice big radiator vent compliments the french engineers.) Sub Command, also very difficult to get the hang of. As a matter of fact I still haven't gotten the hang of it. Enigma. Maybe I'm just stupid, but this game gave me some trouble as well. Learned it quicker than sub command, but I still haven't gotten the hang of the sub combat yet. Last but not least, Steel Panthers: World at War. This one is a fun one. Difficult to learn all the keys at first, but once you get the hang of it its a great game. Especially since its free! http://www.matrixgames.com Somebody go get it so I can kick your behinds in Play-By-Email!
  20. IL2FB is the best combat flight sim I've ever played. IL2 was great, but I'm a bomber pilot kinda guy, which is one of the major additions to IL2FB. CFS3 on the other hand is fun, but it just doesn't live up to the standards set by other combat flight simulators these days. It didn't really add anything spectacular from CFS1&2. If I were you, I'd trade it in for IL2FB .
  21. Its probably their own concoction. I think NASA also might use UNIX or NextSTEP for most of their base OS's on everything, but I haven't heard much about that for a while. I have a funny feeling they just made their own OS.
  22. Mine is the logo for my battlecruiser, the Red Star. Nuff Said.
  23. I seconded your poll request. Now if 9 more people who happen to want to try the game or like the game can back us up. Also, I heard something on a linux group about another version of WineX, developed by another crew. Do you know anything about this? Perhaps BCMG Could work in that, I understand it is supposed to have better support of some games.
  24. Eh, the RX8 is ok. I wouldn't mind getting one and putting some mods on it. Personally, my current dream car is the new BMW 330i. Those things are sweet cars; actually got to drive one once. Really magnificent vehicle. If I had a million dollars, I'd get one and make it pretty. (Meaning I'd pimp it ) Anybody seen the new MG ZRs? I'm sure some of you over in Britain have. Are they any good? I haven't heard much about them over here in the states, minus their rally stats, which were mediocre.
  25. quote:Originally posted by Soback: LOL, too funny, so guys getting the ultimate kick out of roleplaying as a female. Interesting.....LOL Truth is, if you want to pursue the dancer profession in Galaxies you pretty much have to be a female character. Reason is simple, Dancers require tips to survive, unless they also have artisian skills or brawler skills as well. Unfortunately, and trust me, I've tried it, Male Dancers don't get tips. Personally, I think that's rediculous, but it has to go with the fact that there are so many young and horny teenagers playing Galaxies. Even the ones who play female characters stare at their own (and others) female characters. So they just sort of ignore the Male dancers. Hell, I actually had one guy on Kettemore (Thats the (Un)Offical RP Server for everyone who doesn't know) who told me that dancers were supposed to strip, after I told him to lay off a lady friend (In real life as well) of mine. He was literally /yelling (joke. those who don't get it just ignore it) at her to take her clothes off. Challenged him to a duel and he accepted; poor fella, I don't think I took even one shot at him before he hit the ground. Its just getting out of hand. There's one MMO game we're all forgetting however. WW2OL. I wish I still had my subscription to that, it was an awesome game. Plus, 90% of the people who played it were adults because its soooo hard. Not to mention its another one of those Niche market games. Going back to my original topic, sometimes you've got to play female characters to survive in the online world. I'll be honest though, I think it bleedin' sucks. EDIT: (OFFTOPIC) Isn't it always so funny how you feel like your writing a novel in this little box, but when you hit post it comes out to like barely full paragraphs?
