Well, I can't totally approve of what's going on there; I'm mildly offended that the goods these prisoners produce have to go through Chinese middlemen before being sold in the US. Might as well get things straight from the source and pay less, but nooooo, it's wrong to buy goods produced by forced labor camps... Other then that I couldn't care less what they do to each other. I'm not sure I see what's so bad about all this, why should how they treat there citizens be an issue to go to war over? Nuclear weapons, terrorism, money, those are all reasons to go to war, not the way they are treating there citizens. First of all, the DVDs don't destroy themselves, they have a coating that when exposed to oxygen turns blue (or maybe green, but I think its blue), I believe it's an oxidation reaction but I don't recall for sure (I posted a link some time back). The disk is intact, but it can't be read because of a blue (or maybe green) coating. Oh, and it's based off of time, so when you open the package you have a given number of hours before the DVD dies. What we're talking about here is a much different form of copy protection. I'm not 100% sure on the procedure, but it appears that when you get a copy of the software and install it you then must activate it over the internet, and you will never be able to activate the software on another computer, and it may have problems on that computer if the hardware is considerably changed.

I've thought about this a few times before and ultimately I think it's just the trend for the present, and because it has been the trend for the last few hundred years people are starting to believe it is more then just a passing trend. He isn't referring to other games, I've never heard of a game that has anything approaching realistic engagement ranges, rather novels and such not where there arenÔÇÖt limits like collision detection and the need to keep the interest of action oriented gamers that want to blow shit up, and want to blow it up NOW! I'm currently working on a mod for Starshatter that has engagement ranges around 1,000 klicks for cruisers, but combat goes much slower then most people would enjoy (as in 6 minutes for a torpedo to reach it's target, though smaller ships with shorter ranges tend to engage faster). However I have no need to try to make money off of this, so I don't really care if lots of other people find it fun, SC on the other hand has to make a marketable game. He already has a very small niche audience, and reducing the number of people who could enjoy BCM probably isn't a good idea. Considering these restrains SC has done an admirable job of making a game that is more realistic then most you find out there and a lot of fun to play.
