  2. quote:Originally posted by Blerm: A quick look at CompUSA lists the FX5600 (w/256MB) at about $173 and the Radeon 9600 pro (w/128MB) at about $199. Is the 9600 better, even if it has half the memory?? From the reviews that I've read, the ATI Cards are beating out Nvidia's.
  3. quote:Originally posted by ThinkAtomic: quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: nVidia GF4 MX class cards do NOT have a shader engine Looks like it'll be a while before i can play BCG. I just bought this card 2 months ago, can't afford a better card by the time BCG comes out. Maybe by winter time. *sigh* Thank you SC for the heads up. See if the Store will let you exchange it for an ATI 8000 or 9000 Series, they usually sell them for about the same price as the GF4 MX Class Cards.
  4. Yeah it took me a while before I figured that one out!
  5. I don't really consider myself a n00b, but here's a sort of n00bish question. I've recently started taking over Stations on my slow route to the Gammy homeworld. Is there anything specific that I can do to speed up the repair and resupply of the Stations that I've taken over so they stay in my hands and don't fall back to the Enemy?
  6. quote:Originally posted by Banquet: The way I play is usually starts like this; Take command of the biggest (super) carrier available..... Kit up about a dozen marines to prep for combat Assign another dozen marines to searching detail You really should prep your Marines for Combat before you send them to search duty, otherwise, if they find an intruder, they'll end up in a fistfight against the intruders blasters!
  7. quote:Originally posted by rtoolooze: Jesus was sent to the earth by his father to become a perfect human being to be sacrificed, and buy back what Adam had lost,..... So Jesus was, in reality put to death by the Jewish religious leaders of the time. But only because God allowed it to happen. God would not have allowed them to put his son to death for nothing. It was his purpose so we, if we put faith in his sons sacrifice, would have a chance for everlasting life. Very well put, throughout history many people from the Romans to the Nazi's have tried to paint the Jews as Evil because of what "they" did. The reality is that it was all part of God's plan. All of us fall short of the Glory of God and are in need of Salvation, without Christ' sacrifice on our behalf, none of us would have hope for salvation. Those who have put things otherwise only have had other motives in mind.
  8. I own DVD X-Copy by the same company and use it to make copies of my DVD's since my kids are always ruining them. For one thing, it adds an additional layer of copy protection, so it can't be copied furthur. Also, it puts your CD Key into each copy that you make, so if you were to upload it to Kazaa or something like that, they would be able to identify you, so I don't think that this will really cause any problems, if it works the way their DVD Copying program works.
  9. Yeah we went over this months ago... cool technology.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Emmett.hendrick: As for vehicles/ships, I anxiously await the vehicles update next month and hope the ships expansion will not be too far behind it. Well Vehicles are out and as bugged as they were in TC (can't store them half the time.. usually when in cities or near your residence) .. By the way they're wording the ship/space expansion, lookes like they'll be charging for that one and BTW, what Galaxy do you play on? I'm Jenjuan on Kauri Playing Imperial on Tatooine (DSB)
  11. I've been playing Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) for the past couple of months and eagerly waiting for them to come out with the vehicle patch. They promised that they would deliver in the middle of December and you know what, they did ... bugs and all. Unfortunately, you can't store the vehicles half the time so walking through the cities now is like walking through a junk yard. Everyone is complaining about it and wondering why on earth they released this update when they knew about it in the Test Center. I think it's best to wait until it's ready. Of course, all of us would understand because we know what goes on, but what about the casual gamer who looks at this and thinks, cool, let me try something new, and get's turned off by the problems? I've told a lot of people about Battlecruiser Millenium and they say things like, you know I bought that a few years ago and it kept crashing, so I tell them that there's an update available that will make it run correctly, their answer is, "well it should have worked out of the box" They don't take into consideration that the PC market is fragmented with everyone having different Hardware. When you think about it, it's a wonder PC's work at all with all the parts coming from different company's all over the world, but the point is, make sure it's Stable, Reasonably bug free, and that it has a polished, finished look and feel. Then and only then should it be shipped, otherwise we risk alienating even more gamers from this genre.
  12. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: Talk about pressures of being of JEDI: First Galaxies Jedi confirmed, hunted First players to unlock force-sensitive slots in Star Wars-based MMORPG quickly find a price on their heads. I guess it's lucky for them that in SWG, you have to actually accept a dual with someone to be able to fight with them. Unless of course you are both members of opposing factions, then it's on! All in all SWG is pretty cool, but I have to admit, it's kind of frustrating, knowing that I have Power plants, Mining equipment, Chemical Extractors and Factories that can produce all kinds of things, but I have to either walk everywhere or ride around on a smelly lizard. This is no way to live, I need my technology, bring on the Land speeders & Bikes (I know, I'll have them by next month). Though, what I'd REALLY like is a cool ship to fly from either one part of the planet to another, or even better from planet to space and planet to planet. I don't care the costs, I've got millions saved up already, I'm ready!
  13. The guy obviously doesn't have the brains to figure out a game of this scope and is mad and insulted that someone would dare to put together something that his tiny brain can't grasp! He probably still has his mommy walk him accross the street.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: PS - I noticed the www.orionfleet.com domain is registered to one of those cheap-ass little ad companies until April 2004. Having trouble? Why don't you guys register OrionFleet.net or OrionFleet.org? What does it cost, 20 bucks to register a name these days?
  15. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: That machine is the bare minimum required to run the server. Hence the 80% cpu utilization. I know, but I figured since it was dedicated and I was only running 2 people in the game it wouldn't be a problem. Though now that I think about it, it's possible that the Panda Anti-Virus is causing problems. It has two components, one that I can shut down and another that runs as part of the system, so I can't shut it down. I'll try disabling it from the services menu and see if that helps.
  16. Same problem here, CPU utilization on the computer I'm using as a dedicated server (which is a 800Mhz Athlon w/512Megs RAM w/WinXP Pro) is running at almost 80% upon startup and as soon as me and my son join the game the Utilization hits 100%. Game lasts a short while then crashes. I'm going to check at work to see if the same thing happens on a "Real" server running Win2K Server, instead of my small workgroup at home. But then again, that thing has a dual 1.8Ghz processors w/2Gigs of RAM so I guess it wouldn't be a fair comparison.
  17. I think we've discovered his secret identity
  18. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: Yes. And another reason why Microsoft won't fall to Linux and the like is because of ease of use.I know exactly what you mean, it's a LOT of very small things that add up to a heck of a lot. Example, I setup everyone at my office with Roaming Profiles. One of my sales guys computers went dead, so I simply pulled one that wasn't being used in Customer Service, and plugged it in. Boom!, his roaming profile reloaded his Desktop, His Faxnow Interface, His shortcuts to his sales tracking spreadsheets, everything, it's like he had the same computer. If it was a Linux box, first of all, most of the programs that we use, wouldn't work on it and second, Linux doesn't have things like Roaming Profiles. Even if there were Linux versions of these programs, I would still have had to reload everything to match his old settings. MS, just makes things easy.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Race Bannon IV: why Microsofts tech support sucks so badly. I don't beleive that Linux will ever REALLY be able to challenge MS and the reason is very simple. Most people are not very bright, especially when it comes to computers and while people like us can appreciate all that Linux has to offer, the truth is that if you gave it to Grandma or Uncle Bob, they wouldn't know what to do with it. So they NEED the dumbed down interface and if MS tech support is so very bad, how bad is tech support going to be from Free software? If I'm not making money off it, why in the world would I support it? Yes you can get support from Red Hat, but you best beleive they will charge you for it! And the truth is, that they are used to dealing with Tech Heads like me, not people like Uncle Bob and Gradma.
  20. In the past year, I must have seen at least 5 machines that have had problems with Nvidia cards. They end up installing drivers for PCI instead of AGP, so of course they end up working slower. Had problems with my own machines as well. I put in an ATI 9000 on one and 9100 on the other and have had absolutely no problems. The best part is that I got the 9000 for $79.00 and the 9100 for $99.00. True they're not ready for DX9, but by the time those games are out, the 9800Pro will probably be selling for about $100.00 and there will be something else that will be top of the line!

  22. Have you tried Privateer with it?
  23. The AI can have any unit that you have, plus in addition they have a variety of Anti-Aircraft, missile launchers along with other defensive assets. Also the AI has Battleships along with support craft that you do not have the ability to have in this edition. You have to wait for BCG for that
  24. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: full fuel load. the best systems your ship can handle, and a spare in the cargo bays. a shitload of system repair kits, droids and generic tools like that. spares for everying on a shuttle. weapon bays filled with AF and AS missiles. and the appendix. I've got about 100 Million in the bank, do you think that would be enough?
