quote:Originally posted by Steve Schacher: Cell phone spam will quickly be ruled illegal, if not theft. The same principle as the original fax spam applies: they were stealing your paper to fax you unwanted ads, they are stealing your connect minutes to send you unwanted ads. It's not the same as land lines where you pay a fixed price for all telephone calls. Is it me? Ever since that spam bill was passed these companies seem to have gotten worse. I very rarely got spam messages on my answering machine but now it's like overkill. I've been getting alot of blank messages too that just suck up my message alotment. Do you think these companies are just overly defiant towards that spam bill? Anyway I do have a fix for the fax spam problem that most everyone here at my end loves. Either send them a bill for a $1 for the paper and ink the've used on you or take a blank fax sheet and a black marker and in huge lettering write on that paper "NO THANK YOU!" and make sure the letters are nice and big taking up the whole sheet and use as much black marker ink as possible and just place this generic letter in a folder to keep it neat for the next fax spammer. That should suck up alot of their ink as well as tie up their fax line even more. If every fax spam recipient did this, can you imagine how much ink the target company would use up and I think they'd get the message. Fight Fire with Fire is what I say.

You know I found this whole fiasco very educational. We got the down and dirty on the inside workings of developer and Publisher relations and brings the truth of your sig quote "Dealing with publishers is like stepping through a minefield. In the dark. Blindfolded. With people shooting at you. And your ex mother-in-law giving you directions." If only HaveFun and Takvah took the time to do research on Publishers behavior they might not be so willing to defend them to the extent they did. Like they were speaking from experience and had business dealings with Publishers other than being a consumer of their products. -

I can't help but focus on the technical aspects... it's all I do day in and day out. I can also predict most stories with unnatural clairvoyant accuracy. A side effect of reading a book a week since age 7. This has made me bitter and elitist. *shrug* Yeah, I'm jaded and I hate everything, so take my reviews with that grain of salt. Actually, I usually don't do what you do until the second are third time I watch a movie. Usually after that, you start to notice things anyway in the movie more than the first time.

Looks like the point has been made about this war Libya to give up WMD. Do you think he got the message with the fall of Saddam? I think so. I wonder how many more radical countries are going to follow suit.

quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: yeah IIRC Russian film makers were early inovators in the 1920-30's with stuff like juxtapositioning and other out of camera editing. Of course the motivation back then was more to convert the commoner to a revolutionary than to entertain, but alot can be learned from the Rissians. Agree. And you weren't considered a true film maker in Russian until you made a movie about a war namely WWII. And this one just blew my socks off and it's not even a propaganda movie. How the director got away with this movie in Russia deserves an award just for that. From the think tank about the movie I did learn where the title came from. The bible the part of the apocalypse where the four riders are quoted as saying "Come and Behold". Very fitting for this movie.

Critisim is good to a degree and in most part helps with the development of future products. As long as it's done in an intelligent fashion. I've not been too long on the BC forum myself and have never joined any other forum because I see the infantile stuff that goes on at other places IE Flamming messages etc.. It's gotten to a point where I think a good percentage of people on those other forums forgot how to talk in a civil manner. Which is why I joined this forum, other than buying than game, because that stuff is just not tolerated here and that irritates them I think more than SC ever will. So there these guys sit around feeling dejected and mad because they got booted from here calling everyone else, on the forums they haven't got booted from "yet", that has not gotten the boot from here "Fanboys". Oh well, everyones a critic. -

Agree. I was being rather conservative when I said a bit. I'm just glad to finally see the ending of the three books put on film. I waited so long since the Ralph Bakshi animated LOTR which call me crazy but I still like. quote:Originally posted by Scrivener: It's where Aragorn kisses Arwen at the very end during his coronation. As soon as he turns his head the light reflects off of the glue for his mustache. No, it's not sweat, it's latex and has a very hard edge to it. At the end when Frodo is hugging the other hobbits, you can see up his shirt sleeve. The pale white makeup ends and the rest of his arm is rosy-pink.Well thanks a bunch!! Now when I go see the movie I'm going to be concentrating on what flaws I can see in it. I guess as long as one doesn't see any microphone booms sticking down on the top of the screen the other flaws can be overlooked as not being over the top bad ones.

quote:Originally posted by Wolferz: I'm with Jag on this. Why do you think France and Germany were so adamantly against the military action in Iraq? They were making money off old Saddam by selling him prohibited technology, and with our intervention they fear that their part in the insanity will be discovered. And it will be. Mark my words. Yeah and more than likely that's the debt we are asking France and Germany to forgive!!! And using being a sub-contracter as a bargaining tool for them to forgive it. I say let them eat crow. Why don't Iraq just declare bankruptcy. I don't see why that would not work. I mean hell Companies do that all the time and re-structure the whole organization from the top down. Hmm, sounds like Iraq doesn't it.

quote:Originally posted by Alacard: So.... should those of us that have pre-ordered cancel it? You probably can't answer that question... I appreciate your honesty and candor. Is it just me or does it seem that DC want's SC to fail for some strange reason? Just a thought... Why cancel it? You know it will and I emphasis the will come out just not for the holidays. Big whoop. If I had pre-ordered Half Life 2 or Doom 3, I would not cancel the pre-order just because of the rescheduled release date(s). I know they will come out and I would not have to worry about ordering it. As to your last question, nah, as much as SC is single mindedly concentrating on finishing UC DC is just as single mindedly concentrating on this magical holiday release date. All my bets are always with the developer and not the publisher. Case in point look at the T3 game for the PC or ConsoleT3: War of the machines. If that was ever the case of rushing a product out the door before it was polished graphicaly, AI and game wise just for a holiday release, I don't know what is. Just think of all the suckers that are going to buy that game as christmas presents just because of the T3 name alone and not bothering to check the reviews for the game. Which is a shame because I thought it would be just like Skynet from bethesda which is an excellent game although dated by todays standards. Trust SC he's the one behind the machine of the game and knows more than anyone if it should go out or not. Not DC they are only thinking with their pockets and not the gamer. And no this is not Publisher bashing just the facts on how publishers work. -
quote:Originally posted by El Che: I know I'm the new guy and I know my opinion is not popular, however, has anyone ever considered the fact that the United States gave Hussein the weapons of mass destruction? That is a proven fact. You see, it's kind of like Frankenstein's monster. We (the U.S.) created a monster(Saddam Hussein) by.....providing him with weapons of mass destruction so that he could defeat our enemy, Iran during the Reagan administration. we hated Iran then. remember? Then, he used the chemical weapons on the Iranians and the u.s. said...ok... then he used the weapons on his own people...the kurds... and the world said ...whoa... but the U.S. said, hey, it's ok....relax...then, he invaded kuwait.....and saudi arabia got on the phone and said .....ahem...so we attacked him and now he is the villian when all along he was the monster we created....just my view on it And if it was, then it was our duty nay responsibility to deal with him ourselves not the world circus.

quote:Originally posted by netshaman: I can suppose their attitude is a capitalist blind one like people who don't see what is faraway than their nose end. They problably think " it's christmas ! this game MUST be released before christmas ! " All of that without ever thinking at the consequences...pffff, marketing it's pure marketing crap: sell the faster as possible, the game finished or not but before christmas ! I hate this way of thinking it's so primary... There has always been this antagonism between Puplisher and Developer. It's not unique to the SC and DC issue. Publishers have this magical vision about the holiday season. Where this vision might be valid for say platform style games oozing with jumping puzzles and such, this stance does not apply to this style of game. UC will sell any season. I myself don't buy games based on the season but whenever they are released and are good. What do these publishers think that gamers wait around for the holiday season to buy their games?! Case in point into the Developer and Publisher issue look what happened to the developer of the new Crimson Sky game in development the microsoft execs fired the entire team because they felt the game was not going in the right direction and most importantly, which I felt was the real reason, because they would not make the 2003 christmas season. So they were punished for this. So what happened a 2004 release date anyway. People have short term memories look at the first half Life that was delayed for a year and look at the big hit it has become that didn't hurt sales one bit. Look at the delay of Doom 3 and Half life 2. Do you think people aren't going to buy these games because of the extended wait and that it's not christmas? -
I was scanning the cable channels and came upon the CUNY channel which I usually watch on tuesdays for the science programing. The program tonight was City Cinematheque and they were airing a Russian movie called COME and SEE made in 1985. Wow what a movie. At first I was just going to just go past it but as I started watching it I found myself unable to turn it off. This movie is equal too if not better than Schindler's list or The Pianist. In fact, I feel it has a definite Kubrick feel to it. What even added more to that movie experience was the think tank dicussion they had after the movie. Any one who gets a chance I highly recommend watching this movie. CUNY Foreign Films

quote:Originally posted by Grayfox: saw this one today... man oh man, what a great friggin movie. i agree, an excellent end to an excellent trilogy. of course there were deviations from the book, but that is to be expected with a trio of films of this magnitude. overall, peter jackson has done a fine job of adapting the books to the screen... elves fighting at helms deep withstanding... and ill probably see this a few more times in theaters. *sigh* this cant come out on DVD fast enough... Peter Jackson said he was going to change things a bit for all the people that know the story inside and out to add an air of mystery to the story line instead of making it just a cut and paste of the LOTR book. Haven't seen this one yet but will shortly. Glad to hear from all of you that it's not a disaster.

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: GameSpot also has a bit about it Thanks SC. Hmm, I didn't see that one on gamespot. Man this is not good. They are being attacked on all sides. Literaly they are being besieged by all these law suits. As for the violent aspect of their games I'd like those nay say people to prove the claims about these games being a detriment to society. Take for example here in NY city. There was a news report a few days ago that the city was at an all time low for crime violent or other wise. How can this be if what they claim is true about these games. and everyone knows damn well that a lot of people here in NY play those games me included so go figure.

I mean where does it all go. It's gotta be somewhere doesn't it. And as it builds up it becomes a detriment to any space faring vessel and reduce it's effectiveness in any endeavor. Imagine a space sim that included into it's dynamics the requirement that you need to schedule a rubbish pick up from a garbage scow and if you don't your crew's morale and effectiveness decrease drastically. Now on to the biological waste. Imagine if you will while planet side you are sneaking up to an enemy patrol and open fire on them only to find out that you interrupted them while they are on a poop break and seeing them fall down literaly tripping over the pants around their ankles. Oh the humanity of it, the slaughter. -

Movie Trailers. Most note worthy Riddick, Spider man 2, Alien V. Predator boy have I been waiting for that one a long time. The Punisher looks fairly run of the mill unfortunately. You might wanna check out this site as well Movie List (ugo) you can even rate the trailers and see what others rate it.

Those things didn't cross my mind (I guess I was too thrilled to be watching it), but now that you mention them. Hmmmmmm....interesting indeed. Hey there's nothing wrong with being enthralled with this movie it does look good. What I have is a curse. I have yet to see something that has not been done before in any shape, form or imitation and I see it in most things that come out and can't help but see the similarities and make comparisons. Not that imitation is a bad thing if it's done good. What I see in this trailer is a good thing... a very good thing. Another point of interest are the statues. They are very Jedi inspired. If you remember the first Jedi Knight game, you know what I mean. You may find this interesting Chronicles of Riddick

All I can see is this could lead to vigilantism for the simple fact some people are pricks and don't listen and when they don't some people will just get plain mad and do violence. This is not the right way to teach a lesson. Since there is equipment damage law enforcement should be called and have the two arrested for vandelism. That would be the better lesson to teach not to take matters into your own hands like this cause it could be dangerous but to defer the issue to law enforcement. I would suggest is to go thru all school rules and regulations documents looking for what they can and cannot do etc... Inquire if they've done this before with a class or is it something they just came up with on a whim. If you find nothing about this issue in any of the documents, confront them about this telling them that it should be listed as a policy so everyone knows ahead of time what they are in for in a situation like this and that it is just plain wrong and possibly illegal to come up with this on a whim and that it should be properly documented in any rules and regulations and that is should be their responsibilty to take action on the two students not the class since you have enough on your plate with studying and tests right to have to deal with this bs issue. That could be what they are aiming for to teach you to use you mind and the law. I like that alot better than the mob mentality.
