  1. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Just as I suspected. The usual unrealistic requests. Even a 1 min movie at 800x600 (the lowest supported by UC), could be close to 500MB. Let alone one that shows all the game's capabilities and which could span an hour or more. Compress it. Zip it. They did it yesterday on Screen Savers. Then you can do a long one like this: UNIVERSAL COMBAT INTRO DISSOLVES TO ... SCENE: An enemy ground base, camera pans around the base for a birds-eye view. Voiceover discusses that the mission is to destroy an enemy base, etc. Dissolve to ... SCENE: Transporter overhead view of marines transporting down to a secure spot near the base. Voiceover explains that the marines are sent down first to reconnoiter. Cut from overhead view to master shot of marines on the ground with enemy base in the background. SCENE: Shuttle launching from the command ship. The AE is aboard, along with an OC filled with more marines. Voiceover talks about using the OC to attack the enemy base. Cut to interior of shuttle as it approaches planetfall. Cut to standard animation as the shuttle reaches the planet. Cut to ... SCENE: POV marines, watching shuttle fly overhead. Cut to ... SCENE: Interior of shuttle as it lands. Scene shows procedures AE uses to deploy OC then exit in FP mode. Cut to ... SCENE: AE outside of shuttle, standing next to OC. As he heads toward first group of marines, voiceover explains that the enemy base looks quiet enough and that two marines will be dispatched to check it out. Cut to ... SCENE: POV of AE as he watches the two marines, halfway into the complex, get cut down by sniper fire. Voiceover expresses appropriate sentiment. Dissolve to ... SCENE: Outside the command craft as fighters and the remaining shuttles launch. Voiceover explains that the fighters will soften up the base for a ground assault by the OCs; the foot soldiers will clean up the mess. In a sequence of shots, the camera follows one of the fighters down to the planet. Cut to ... SCENE: The other OCs have now deployed around the perimeter of the enemy base. Ground level master shot of fighters approaching and attacking. Cut to ... SCENE: Interior of one attacking fighter as it makes a pass on the base. Cut to ... SCENE: Medium shot of the lead OC as it heads into battle. Cut quickly to each of the other OCs in sequence such that you can tell they are different OCs. Voiceover talks about how, now that the fighters have softened the target, the OCs will move in and quickly finishes the job. SCENE: Interior of lead OC as it heads into the battle. SCENE: Long shot of OCs attacking and destroying various targets. Cut to a quick sequence of medium shots showing targets being destroyed, OCs on the move, and marines fighting on the ground. Voiceover makes comments on the action. Fade to ... SCENE: Master shot of destroyed base. Cut to ... SCENE: Interior of shuttle, with enemy base in view, lifting off. Voiceover talks about how the success of this mission will help rid GalCom of another enemy threat. FADE TO BLACK. Then one where assets are used to mount an assault on a base under the sea. And another where a command ship lifts off from a planet, launches into space, docks with a station, then heads out to gather the fleet and destroy an enemy space station. Or maybe one about the mundane life of a merchant marine, ferrying goods from one corner of the galaxy to another, protecting himself and his cargo as need be. Or, you could just do a series of quick cuts showing a wide variety of what can be done in UC ... set to fast-tempo music. As the final shot slams shut, the screen goes black and somebody gasps, "Awesome!"
  2. And Hi-Fi (before stereo) and the year transistor radios, many made in Japan, first became a teen necessity.
  3. Present and standing by for action.

    Website?

Yeah, mine is on order too. But, from posts elsewhere on the forum, it looks like I'll be trying to find some of you guys wandering around in Final Fantasy XI during R&R from Prime Fleet.

    Website?

Thanks. I was about to try and transfer the logo to another site. Btw, are we skipping the November roll call? Is everyone AWOL for the month, standing at the door of their favorite local software store, impatiently waiting for Universal Combat to hit the shelf?
  6. quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: Yes, thank you, I do know how to get to tacops... I never doubted it for a moment. I just quoted you as a reference to the question.
  7. I think it's all just Dreamcatcher's way of introducing Universal Combat.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: when you exit your craft you don't magically turn into a SF marine. You are still the commander and should still have access to Tacops. Alt+S if I remember correctly. Then select the appropriate craft icon and give it orders.
  9. Thanks. I wasn't sure ... this being a new month and all.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Emmett.hendrick: Turn off fast user switching in XP (control panel - user accounts) Thanks for the tip. I've recently updated my machine in anticipation of Universal Combat and have now made this change to WinXP. Btw, is this tip in the Troubleshooting FAQ?
  11. Just checking to see if the light bulb had burned out.
  12. quote:Originally posted by Delta1: I take a small step (for man) and a giant leap (for mankind) and the space station starts wisking away from under me. I use my jetpack but it still moves faster than I can keep up with.In the real world, astronauts use tethers because, as Newton once said, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction," and, "A body in motion will remain in motion until acted upon." Once you take that "small step," you'll continue to move in a straight line (gravity from the planet below not withstanding) away from the space station. Evidently, the angular momentum gained after pushing away from the station is greater than a jetpack can handle. Even in Orbiter it's a tricky maneuver to get back to the ISS if your orbits no longer match. Besides, the Battlecruiser universe uses Star Trek physics. Space combat would be just about impossible otherwise.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Marvin: YakotaYokota. And thanks. I'll be checking the evening sky all weekend.
  14. Does two kilomockingbirds also equal two pecks?
  15. Ratz. This is the kind of thing I really enjoy. I haven't seen an aurora since flying (navigating, actually) from Yakota to Alaska ... and, before that, one night in Michigan. (I'll bet they had quite a show of it in Michigan.) I heard about the solar flare (though I thought it was to hit the earth two nights ago) but never, ever did it occur to me that it would cause an aurora. And the last two nights have been relatively warm for this time of year. It would've been a great time to view it. Tonight, though, is probably too late. Besides, it's snowing on-and-off now in northern Nevada. Ratz.
  16. quote:Originally posted by Grayfox: after your shuttles deploy their drones and reach their 3rd waypoint, you can go into the shuttle command and control and order your shuttles to RTB.If you're in a hurry, watch for each shuttle pilot to report that his/her drone has been deployed. You can then immediately order the pilot to RTB. As for the keyboard commands, many of them can be bypassed by using the icons on each side of the HUD.
  17. Make sure you get your fill of Kobe beef. Supposedly, the cattle are fed beer to make the meat tender. Which must be why a Kobe steak goes so well with a bottle of ice-cold Tai beer. See you when you return, cadet. Hopefully, you'll find Prime Fleet knee-deep in multiplayer combat.
  18. You do realize it will take you over eight months to make up that much leave? Did you want to draw advance pay, too?
  19. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: See? This is the kind of thing I'm talking about Of all that was said in the link posted above, the most important was, IMHO: quote:DSmart[3000AD]: I think I'll stop posting here.Whenever BC veterans wander to another forum to answer questions, the possibility exists that the answer to an important question will never find its way to this forum. The noob who pleaded: quote:bcnoob: ... please dont stop aswering the others questions. i just need to know how the game was ....might just as well be saying, "Everyone who wants answers to Battlecruiser questions, come and read them here." So, personally, I'm glad the SC has decided against posting there again. If they want answers, they can come to this forum.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Tac: 2) People ordering a burger, fries, onion rings and 'diet soda'.Back in the days when McDonald's was a big fishbowl, a woman ordered two of just about everything on the menu ... and a diet coke. The guy who waited on her asked, "How do you want that coke, lady? In a five-gallon drum?" He was being facetious, of course. McDonald's didn't serve diet drinks.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Mrxknown: Heaven didn't have internet until now. Is it broadband or dial-up? I'm not going until they get broadband ... and fiber optics.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Changing this is about an hours work but it is still an hour of not doing something else, pissing around with something that actually works (and which was not part of my design schedule for revision) etc etc. So, before I made a final decision, I opened this thread so that I could better understand the issue. Heh, what was I thinking? No comment, really. Just thought it was worth repeating.
  23. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Maybe I should just disable the external camera views altogether because the game never was designed to be played from external views. You have my vote on that one. Especially in multiplayer.
  24. First time I saw it was at the movie theater. Thermite is what burned up the flying saucer in John Ford's The Thing From Outer Space.
