    The Passion

quote:Originally posted by Bandus: I agree, with respect, it's not going to be very influential until it's translated. Even the Bible was translated. I can gurantee it won't be influencing me, especially if I can't understand it. Don't underestimate yourself ... or the film. I spent three years watching TV in Japanese and more than ten years in Italy. I'm terrible at languages but managed to "understand" and be moved by much of what I saw. Imagery can be a powerful tool in and of itself.
  2. Prepared marines probably do a better job of capturing or otherwise dispatching intruders.
  3. Nope, that wasn't it at all. As I now recall, I used the "stash" option to move items around so I could make room for upgrades. The note was to remind me that, if I did eject the pod, I'd lose anything stored within. But, while checking it out, I found that if I loaded items into a CC pod via Logistix they didn't register when I later went to TacOps-Transporter. To actually "stash" items off ship, I needed to load the pod via Tactical. I must be missing a step somewhere P.S. Edit time for previous post has elapsed.

My fault for using the word "stashing" ... without explaining that I used it in the context of stashing cargo "off ship." I guess I sayed up too late last night, watching Monk and the new cowboy program that followed ... got in a hurry and just did a cut-and-paste from my Dash-1. Didn't realize the term would confuse you. I assumed I could recover the items later, especially if they were ejected on a planet. Either that or the Eject button offers another option when you hover the pointer over it. Truthfully, I don't remember. I'll go back and check later. But thanks for the catch. It probably means another change to my Dash-1.
  5. quote:Originally posted by Pugwash: quote:Originally posted by Fiver: I do have to remember what I leave in the pod, but do not have to leave at least one item to remove them from the pod. Don't just say you can do it give an exact step by step instruction on how to unload a CC cargopod and don't give instructions for the Shuttle cargopods. I think the below steps should do it. I just wish you could indent in the forum ... it would make the following instructions easier to read. STASHING CARGO 1. CC Icon ÔÇô SELECT 2. CC Menu ÔÇô SYSTEMS 3. Systems Menu ÔÇô LOGISTIX a. Cargo ÔÇô SELECT b. Miscellaneous Tab ÔÇô SELECT CATEGORY c. Item ÔÇô SELECT Quantity ÔÇô SELECT (UP/DOWN ARROWS) Eject ÔÇô SELECT A/R Note: If cargo pod is not ejected, items will remain in pod until unloaded. 4. Logistix-Cargo ÔÇô LOG OFF UNLOADING CARGO POD 1. CC Icon ÔÇô SELECT 2. CC Menu ÔÇô SYSTEMS 3. Systems Menu ÔÇô LOGISTIX a. Cargo ÔÇô SELECT b. Miscellaneous Tab ÔÇô SELECT CATEGORY c. Item ÔÇô SELECT HIGHLIGHTED ITEM Note: If all of one item was previously loaded into a cargo pod, that item cannot be accessed for unloading. In that case, select any other item (in any category) and use the procedure for unloading all cargo. Partial Unload ÔÇô SELECT QUANTITY (ARROW) Unload All ÔÇô CANCEL TAB Note: Selecting the Cancel tab will return all stored items to CC inventory. 4. Logistix-Cargo ÔÇô LOG OFF
  6. The key pharse here is "national telecom company." Where you have competition, you usually get a better deal.
  7. If you unload all items from a cargo pod, you can retrieve anything and everything ... including items you can't highlight 'cause you stored them all. Or, you could buy one more of the same item ... allowing you to then highlight that item for storage retrieval.
  8. Thanks for the (updated) list -- I found a few terms in there I needed to add to my Dash-1. Btw, I think you're still missing a few. Off the cuff, there's APM, APN, APR, CSM, FC&C, HUD, Km and MBase to be reckoned with.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Kenada: What are you thinking? It doesnt work right... always thinks your gonna be at Mars. However, the Mind Probe is freaky. Pure slight of hand. Not all the numbers are possible combinations ... but all the possible combinations have the same symbol. The extra numbers are only there to confuse you.

  11. quote:Originally posted by Fiver: RE: GUIDANCE OF NEW COMMANDERSThat term is used to reference a previous message or topic of discussion. For proper military format, use the following when designating the subject of a message: SUBJ: Guidance for New Commanders. Also, each paragraph should be numbered and marked with classification appropriate to the subject matter within the paragraph. The overall classification of the message would be the same as that of the highest classification in the text. Place classification below subject, usually leaving a space between the two.
  12. quote:Originally posted by Sir John Falstaff: I've got a verbal sparring match going on with Gammulans and Insurgents on the newbie boards and nobody from prime fleet is jumping in..... Do you guys just not get involved when a cadet gets into a bar fight? The bar is neutral ground. As Scotty once said, you should be man enough to take a few insults. And I read nowhere that they insulted your ship. Besides, cadets who start a fist-fight with senior officers usually end up in the brig. Next time, let the Fleet Commander start it.
  13. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: Here's another little useful tip I picked up along my travels. I have an 80gig hard drive plenty of room to do mutliple partitions. 20 gigs for the boot partition, 40 gigs for the games and programs, 15 gigs for downloads and 5 gigs for the swap and temp files. My drives list as (when I go into my computer): Boot_disk C: Games_prog D: Downloads E: Swap_Temp F: The biggest benefit for doing it this way is your boot drive is saved from excessive fragmentations and boot up speed is fast and I find that windows files get less corrupted. Downloaded files, swap files and temporary files are the biggest culprits for a fragmented Hard Drive. Most importantly the Swap file is the biggest culprit. I also reassign the windows/temp directory and the IE temp files onto the swap disk. Let me tell you it use to take me forever and quite often to do a defrag when I just used a C: even with a C: and D: partition. Now the C: drive is barely fragmented as well as the D: drive even if it's weeks before I defrag. 99% of the fragmentations now occur on the E: and F: drive but who cares they are not invovled in booting and running programs. So if anyone here is planning to do a fresh OS install, it would be a great benefit if you re-partition your drives to the above scheme. What if you were a philosophy major?

If I load the previous save everything?s ok, I exit game then restore the last saved game it loads OK.I'd like to take a look at this. Pack up the saved game files and send to [email protected]. For me, once the last saved game has been "corrected" by first loading the previous game, it will always load correctly. Consequently, it might be better if he first reproduces the problem, anew, then send off the newly saved game.

  16. Here ... one cadet present and accounted for.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Kasey Chang: I'm kinda surprised you didn't implement something like Falcon's "funnel sight" for the IOD's. The BC TLL is pretty much the same thing. HUD symbology is realistic, at least when compared to today's fighters. Closing velocity is there and so is range. You really don't need TOF symbology with ammo that moves at light speed. You've got a floating pipper linked to ship's flight path and plenty of in-range indicators. Add to that, there is data beyond what you can get with 20th century fighters (real ones ... not the PC-simulated kind). Like the TLD. And Sci-Fi stuff like the CVD. And with the jammers (EMD), a more sophisticated LWI really isn't necessary. Don'tcha just love it?
  18. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Marvin: If, after installing the latest patch, someone restores a previously saved game where systems were at a fractional value, could that cause a problem? What kind of problem? I guess that would depend on how you corrected the routine for repairing degraded systems. Or if the correction was only to how system status is displayed. When you reminded me about the VCF, I remembered that the latest patch didn't contain the "saved games" statement. I just wondered why that was.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: There was a problem where it took too long to go to 100 from a fractional value and it was fixed in a previous patch. Check the VCF for it. Did that when I downloaded the patch ... and noticed that the following phrase was not included: "This version is compatible with saved games from the previous version." If, after installing the latest patch, someone restores a previously saved game where systems were at a fractional value, could that cause a problem?
  20. quote:Originally posted by Greg Miller: You mean like this? It's not bad enough that politicians suck up to Bill Gates and let him monopolize the commercial computer industry. Now they give him control of military applications too? And his influence is expanding even further? All this just for a buck? Must be ... there really isn't any other excuse. And what's next, Mister Gates? NORAD maybe ... where the BSOD materializes thanks to a memory overload as 600 ICBMs launched from ... ahhh, who knows? The computer crashed before we could find out.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Let me repeat this again so that nothing is missed in the interpretation. KENDRICK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DAMAGE ON THE SHIP APART FROM HANDLING REPAIRS AND AUTO ASSIGNMENTS OF SYS ENGINEERS. AND DURING ANY/ALL SYS UPGRADES, THE PRIMARY SYSTEM WILL BE DEGRADED UNTIL THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW ONE IS COMPLETED. ITS IN THE MANUAL. I've never had this problem but, in case I ever do, one clarification, please: If an upgrade gets stuck at 99%, is the installation considered "completed" ... or will the primary system still be degraded?
  22. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: Check this out http://www.wirelessdevnet.com/channels/pda/apr072003.html Do you suppose engineers at NASA plan to use this "software" with any of their space probes?.
  23. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: And why is your profile still not updated? He's been busy grading Academy training missions. I hope.
  24. Can you imagine a world where Gates' OS is used in automobiles, cell phones, and microwave ovens? Forget the crashes. What about the constant defragging? Could your cell phone catch a virus if you were called by a hacker? A nightmare. But some people's nightmare is probably Bill Gates' dream.
  25. quote:Originally posted by aramike: ...just to dip in and clarify the radar thing, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm working from memory here... Most commercial airliners don't carry anything other than a doppler radar. Heck, most commercial airports don't have radar at all. They have what looks and acts like radar, but all it's really displaying is returns from transponders. I think I remember hearing that they don't use actual "targeting" radars due to the fact that they would interfere with public services. Check this out: Almost anything you ever wanted to know about RADAR
