  1. Way cool. And scary. Especially considering a friend of mine travelled through New York last week. His children called the cell phone to check on them. Two minute call. When he got back down south here his cell provider had called. Someone had cloned his number and had been using it all weekend. The others: Forces of Nature was pretty good. Universal Soldier: The Return; NOT. Desert Heat, not that one either. A bit behind on my rentals but that's what I've seen. Charles/Chavik
  2. Now for a survey on who is, was, or plans to be in the military. We're crawling with them. And perhaps even those that aren't/weren't but wish they were. Me? A resounding no on all counts but those guys have been the some of the best friends I've had. Online or not a friend is a friend. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  3. 34 and the thing that upsets me is that I get carded everywhere I go. *sigh*. Oh well, it'll catch up to me one day. I can watch cartoons with the best of them though. {G} I love them still.
  4. Should be posted in General Discussion. Try again there and I'm sure everyone will post some links to some HTML primer sites. Here we are. Try http://www.keyscreen.com/ for some free/shareware editors and a couple of reference libraries. [This message has been edited by Charles Lindsey (edited 04-07-2000).]
  5. Don't try to redock with Galcom HQ after you have launched as an Insurgent.
  6. My first computer was a Kaypro with an NEC V20 processor, two 5.25 drives, no hard drive, 256K RAM, and monochrome monitor. Upgraded to CGA and 512K RAM and used it to play Starflight II. Slow as Christmas in July. Had a friend though who had a Timex or something that you loaded programs of of a cassette tape. We were like 10 yrs old or so. Had the Kaypro when I was 20. Musclecars abounded here in the U.S. but the gov'mnt was getting to them while I was in junior high school. But there were still enough of them in high school to make you mouth drool. Camaros, Mustangs, Firebirds, Trans Ams, GTO's, Chargers. Then there were the sleepers. Those innocent looking cars (usually luxury or semi-luxury) that had the biggest darn motor the factory made. Grandma used to give us the cars that wouldn't pass the northern rust laws. How 'bout a 1968 make 98 model Oldsmobile with a 425 4 bbl. Won a race or two with that thing. Wasn't quick but it was fast. hehe. Then a 1967 Rambler with Vacumn operated wipers. Sheesh those wipers were a pain. I got all my parents old LP's. Some really good stuff from Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, etc. The last one I remember buying was the soundtrack to Beverly Hills Cop. Space Invaders had the trackball right? Gorf had a joystick if I remember right and your first rank was Space Cadet and it called you that if you lost. Where I think the term came from. Similiar games. Unless I'm just totally whacked on this one. Remember Frogger too. And Battlezone. Used to ride about 3 miles on a bicycle to go play that. We had the three networks and P(ublic) B(roadcasting) S(ystem) [government broadcasting]. PBS always had crud on. They have gotten lots better the last several years though. The 'rents didn't get cable till the extreme late 80's. Drive in theatres are making a comeback in some markets I hear. You tune your car stereo to the theatre's broadcast frequency and listen to the sound through your own speakers instead of that metal box you used to hang off you window. I think you are referring to what is spelled checks in the U.S. and they are still popular. Wrote one the other day; though ATM cards make certain transactions easier. And I remember Marty Robbins with the White Sportcoat and the pink carnation. I remember Miami Vice. And Knight Rider, BJ and The Bear, and Sherrif Lobo. Dukes of Hazzard too. But you are right. Our "those were the days" are going to be ancient history to most people nowadays. Their "those were the days " are gonna be "Remember when processor speed doubled every six months and they brought out a new video card every three". hehe. Ah well those were the days. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  7. In no particular order... Cars without seatbelts? Drive-In theatres? The first computer? The first PC? When you had to push a button on your digital watch to get the numbers to light up? The first handheld calculator? DOS? Muscle cars? LP's? 45's? 8-tracks? Rotary telephones? Steam engines? XT processors? The Shuttle Disaster? Space Invaders? Gorf? Eh, chatter time. I remember all but cars without seat belts (even though I have one the standard was to have them installed at the factory) and the first computer. Everything else was either popular or I saw come about. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  8. The box is tiny but it will scroll as you add to your sig. Then use the up and down arrows to view forward or backward. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  9. Seems to me you used to be able to hide contraband in the shuttles even when they were docked with the BC. That was the loophole. And plugged as well. Contraband on launched shuttles is definitely not a loophole in the game's design. It is a loophole in tactics if you will. The good commander shouldn't even be playing with contraband. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  10. I'll take the blame for this one. I'm the one who told Parias to edit his sig when Destiny was in limbo. He was just following me and it's entirely my fault.
  11. Heck, don't get rid of it. You can hide it/them (contraband) in the shuttles and use those to trade. Just check your cargo bays for illegals first. Best to load them to shuttles and launch said shuttles. I forget if that loophole was left open or not. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  12. Errrr. Uhmmmm. Excuse me. {raises hand } But this is exactly why I wanted to be Storekeep. I knew the Insurgency would rely on trading for funding while Galcom had the UFN and taxes. RP only of course. This part of the Insurgency has been in place since the beginning (oops since Rattlers new beginning). It is not a far stretch to imagine that in 15 years (3000ad for 2.09 till 3015 for BCM) we could have raised those funds ourselves. I'm not above a few friends left in Galcom. The manual says so. Well pretty much. "Support for the Insurgents grew". So funding came from our own efforts and some from within Galcom perhaps. It's there if Derek wants to use it. Galcom cooperated with the Syrions and Droidans for the Atrian-Alloy hulls. Negotiations could have continued and allowed us the technology to build New Amerca. Again the support thing. So far as how we got into Syrion space I have no idea. A gratitude for a service perhaps? Where was Galcom? beats me. This really should be in RP but not the entire thread. Just where we went off topic. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" [This message has been edited by Charles Lindsey (edited 03-21-2000).]
  13. Too regimented. Perhaps an informal invitation on the board a week or so in advance. Like we do with chats. As far as adding to the RPG forum I don't think so. Bragging rights for that particular team sure. But that adding to the RPG forum disturbs me. If ISS captures Spectre will it be destroyed henceforth in RPG? Nope. We have to keep these things separate as we already do with RP tags. I can see War stories and perhaps with an RPG twist but nothing that happens on the server should reflect on the game itself. It would only be relevant to that persistent server the game was being played on. Just like if I was playing my 2.0x and the gamms kicked my rear and in your game you captured the whole gamm quadrant. It does not reflect unto The Game itself but only your game. Differences? We aren't that far gone yet that we have to settle "differences". We are BC3K gamers first. I can see some rivalry springing up but I hope it stays within the nature of the community we have already established. I have been on two multiplay servers. One of which was MSCFS (MSN gaming zone Combat Flight Simulator) and I saw newbies that would play with anyone (a good thing), people that would wait for certain players (thus hogging a game slot), and people waiting for a full game (again hogging a game slot). If you wind up uneven play anyway. I think that is what you are saying. So Informal (posted here) invites. Email confirmation maybe. Braggin rights sure but no lasting effects on the RPG world. Play the game with whoever you can find. Those are the few thoughts I have so far. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  14. I'm with Karl. Earth has 8 assets. Even lowly Starpath counts. But I hear those scientists been tweaking the turrets. Insurgents now have 5. The original Sygan, Spectre, and the three new ones. Seems fair to me. hehe, had to edit my sig ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" [This message has been edited by Charles Lindsey (edited 03-20-2000).]
  15. Mike, I'm glad I could be of some small help. Wish I could do more. Rattler summed it up best. Charles
  16. quote:I typed out my sig in a word document and copy and paste it each time, that saves time. Why not paste it into the space provided on your preferences page? Then it would only be a single click. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet Commanding Officer, Pre-Commissioning Crew, Starstation Destiny ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  17. They are extremely touchy when they are that weak. PTA off and IOD down to 10%, kiss it to death as someone posted a while back. Expand Tips and Tricks to a year and take a look at those thread. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet Commanding Officer, Pre-Commissioning Crew, Starstation Destiny ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  18. Also, read the "fade to black" thread and game "freeze at startup" thread. Several people have asked this recently. Maybe one of those solutions will work for you. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet Commanding Officer, Pre-Commissioning Crew, Starstation Destiny ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  19. An SC approved mission, cool. Maybe we'll see it on mission control one day. Spcfx?
  20. Will be interesting. I seem to remember an old show called Sea Quest. Wasn't it remade recently as well? I can't remember the old uniforms and haven't seen the new ones. I'm sure they will look great though. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet Commanding Officer, Pre-Commissioning Crew, Starstation Destiny ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  21. Sorry to hear that Rico. I lost my grandmother to a sudden and massive stroke several years back. My thoughts are with you. Charles
  22. 1)A: This board for sure B: He can do what he likes with his own game. 2) Thinking Permanent, very permanent. 3) Do we still claim him? Will he be allowed on a BC server? ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet Commanding Officer, Pre-Commissioning Crew, Starstation Destiny ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  23. RTFM again then buy Radine. How are you geting here? From the Launch page? If so, the next page (with the Battlecruiser pic) is the home page. On the right is a list of links. Click "Downloads" and scan down for the Version control file. http://www.bc3000ad.com/files/bc3kver.html is the direct link. Other help? Expand Tips and Tricks forum to the entire year. Lots of good tips in there. See my (shameless plug for me) thread "Cheat Sheet" for upgrading immediately at the beginning of the game. Anything else? One point of contention though. What's BCC in your signature? ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet Commanding Officer, Pre-Commissioning Crew, Starstation Destiny ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
  24. This forum is for answering newbie questions, not full fledged recruiting. Take that to the fleet forum or the RP forum please. I tried to answer his question without being biased. We should all do the same in this forum.
