I hope the rest of the old timers are seeing this and participating. We totally romped Galcom the last time a roll call was issued. I'd like to see it again. It ain't over yet!

Why not? After not being able to find a "cool" variant on my name when first signing on to AOL I finally took what the system offered. That's why I'm clind10107 for email. It's ugly, but it works. For this forum I racked my brains for an hour trying to find a neat "space" name or commander name. After going thru several things like Wayne Newton and Richard Simmons I finally noticed Star Trek x was on TV. It was the one with the Genesis Project and Kirstey Alley (sp?) was playing Lt. Savik. I dropped the "S" and added the first two letters of my first name and got Chavik. I personally imagine the a is pronounced like father. Chah-vik. But an a sound as in bat works too. The first name of the character was only added when I made a biography page for him. He needed a first name. I thought and thought and finally kept coming around to the hard g sound old Gareth had in his name. So I just mixed up Greg a little and got Geryg. Pronounced like air. Gair- egg. Hehe I know my phoenetic spelling stinks. Geryg Chavik. There it is.

What's the point of looking at pzones.pdf if you don't have the patches/mappak applied? I was trying to think of a way jupiter87135 could look at something until he gets those files. Jupiter, you're just going to have to let those files download at the house while you're surfing or something. Bet it will be faster than the time it would take to find a zip drive. Almost sounds like you aren't on the net at home though if you have to transport those files. The Pzones.pdf we are discussing is included in the manual appendix on the download files page.

open Wordpad with a blank document. click "file" from the text menu at the top of the window. Click "Open" Then "Browse". Browse to Sol.scr in the bd300ad folder. (or wherever you put bc3000ad.) Look at the text and you will see the coordinates of the default cities. There is an ancient thread lying around here somewhere with instructions on how to open a bc3k .scr (script) file as opposed to a Windows .scr (screensaver) file with a right click but darned if I can find it. The Default cities can be found of you read the (bc3k) .scr files. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"

quote:My question is, what do I need to download to make my copy work now? You might be able to get up to 1.08 if you can find some old files on servers. I wouldn't recommend it though. 2.0x is so much more. 1.x was trashed/abandoned/improved in favor of 2.x. (total history snipped but available) Find 2.x and purchase it. Get the patches and get up to 2.09. You will be amazed! Commander Chavik "Yeah I know"

quote:There's already protection for the things you mention: ship designations are prefixed automagically depending on what alliance the commander who owns the ship belongs to; and you can't join wings of other fleets (the registration form won't let you if you try). Too cool. Wasn't obvious. I did every thing but actually try to post since we were asked not too. quote: If anyone finds any bugs let me know. The Covert, Overt, and Strike Ops wings listed under ISS actually are Insurgent. ISS fleet is available (from a quick check) at http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arena.../iss/index.html . They have an Intel & Espionage wing; a Tactical Support wing; and a Defense wing. I can do more research if needed; just give the word. Looking good so far! ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" -
What'd think of these Specs?
Charles Lindsey replied to Commander Zeke Stone's topic in General Chatter
Commander Zeke Stone, a small hint if I may. When you edit messages; if you would; scroll down to the bottom of the page/box and delete any previous "Edited by" messages. This leaves only one "Edited by" message. Derek Passed this tip on to me long ago. It's not a real biggie but it keeps your post neat. Spelling corrections need no comments but I and some others include "edit in" for thoughts immediately after the fact. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" -
That's what I had in mind, now whether anyone else likes it is another story.

Talking of the top of my head but how's this? Instead of the IC how about a pic of Wraith station? That's where the Fighter Command Center would be wouldn't it? A central location for the classes and the training exercises? Pilots would take the course and then head out to the various BC's. But a fairly large group would remain at Wraith to pilot those various fighters. So a pic of Wraith itself might be more appropriate. Now look at http://www.bc3000ad.com/pics/bcm/bc-npc.jpg The pilot's uniforms are mainly blue with yellow gold piping and a grey ascot. so how about where your inverted trapezoid (??) is outlined in black change that to that yellow. Make your burgundy background the same blue as the uniform and the station will be grey to match the grey ascot. Use the Wraith logo suggested (and shown) above which has a blue star that matches some of the blue highlights in the pilot's uniform and grey lettering. Change Fighter command to the same font and grey. It sounds good at least. It may look horrendous. Just a suggestion. Use anything or nothing. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"

The main problem on the old roster was someone registering as UCV Earthcom or ICV Orion. Could it be changed so that the primary choice limits the subsequent choices to the appropiate divisions/wings? Example: Prime fleet is changed to a link. A new page opens and Prime is a drop down with only Prime listed. Wraith is a dropdown with Hellhounds etc. Iss drops down to their wings etc. etc. E-retailers spend big bucks researching how many links someone has to take before they get bored and cancel the transaction. This doesn't seem too terribly bad to me. That might alleviate some problems with fleet and wing choices if it's not too much trouble to do. I love the ship name field. That's great! ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" -

quote:In short, is there any way for a player to encourage the crew to actually use the library, No. quote: are there other methods of increasing the crew's AI levels or not? Yes sir, you could use the "send them off duty and then repair at Galcom" solution. (Galcom repairs take major amounts of game time.) I don't use that as a shortcut though. I consider it a cheat even though it is a valid solution in the game. I have occasionally used it when I was going to Galcom anyway. But I don't run to Galcom just to nick some game time (fair enough?). What's your current game time (new thread? )? If you've taken acm that far you are a better man than me. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"

Was thinking of another piece of BCM music please. That's good stuff. Really good. Congrats to Raven. GNN hasn't been updated in two weeks. Though that will change with the press release. But still, another scrap or so please? I do actually pull them up and listen to them every few days or so. Charles/Chavik It really is good music.

BC3K offers so many different play styles I am interested. I like the keyboard. A Capital ship should not be controlled by a joystick in my opinion. I also use the bridgeview to play. I use TacOps as an information only. It's great for info, especially when you have probes out. But it's just not something to play by. Again my opinion. Anyone else? ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"

quote:I like the idea of the BC's point-defense being automated. Heavens. I hope you don't think I was saying PTA should be manual. Of course not. As above I find them quite accurate and deadly. Only when the ship changes position in some way do they have to recalculate. Even then it is quick. The moot point was that if you wanted to man a turret manually the auto center characteristic detracts from that. Hard to shoot at guys when the turret tries to center all the time. Then again I am a keyboard player. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" [This message has been edited by Charles Lindsey (edited 08-03-2000).] -

I remember that thread. Tac was in it also I beleive. Perhaps if we all of us remember enough snippets we can perform the ritual suicide ceremony. (Hehe, sorry, reference from a sci fi book I read long ago.) But I do remember it and the fact that Derek could enable/disable that characteristic with a few keystrokes. Wish he had. Yes it's a wish but not a really loud one. I know you are working on BCM. Besides; Derek says they work differently now. That intrigues me. I always thought they were very accurate if you were close enough. Though they do have to compensate for the ship constantly changing position in an AP "follow target" mode. IE the pta just gets its lock and starts firing when the ship decides to pitch or yaw to follow the target causing a recalculation. Again with the disclaimer. I wish it had happened but it's too late now. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes" -
The offending "Akira" post is gone last I looked. That one was pretty low. As for the rest; eh. Ryu-dog was bogus. Pure loathing. What the heck is an unintuitive command? (I know what it means but not everything can be intuitive.) You are given a command sheet and learn them. Try MS Combat Flight Sim. That would be a fair comparison I think. Like anything on an airplane would translate to a keyboard. I don't like that game. Anyone want it? Saw a few people give accurate reviews but they lowballed the score. Their opinion I suppose. Then there are a couple parodies that give straight fives. Hmmmm. Ya can't win. Not only are they/we reveiwing the game but the reviews get rated. Notice how all the "bad" reviews are rated 3 and above while all the "good" reviews are rated less than 2? That is interesting in and of itself. Rattler is the only exception with a straight 2. At least the offending Akira post is gone. I think the rest shouldn't be bothered with. My opinion only. I suppose I'll be quoted on usenet now. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"

Don't forget to check the FAQ for specific tweaks and run sound setup (it's simply "setup" in the bc folder) before you crank her up for the first time. Welcome! Check out the fleets while you are here. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"

That's the TLM covered in 6.0 [6] of the manual. (page 47) You can use that or fly the shuttle manually. That's the general way to do it. Got some coaching from Rattler at the Den but don't think we got that far along so I won't stick my foot out too much (probably too late ). Just use the Adobe search function for "Tactical Launch Menu" and it will pop right up. The version control file (downloads page) is good (well, informative) reading as well. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"

Thief. What a great game! Thief II is next. System Shock II demo. It's good but just too darn creepy. Don't know if I could stomach the full game or not. Have been trying to get an old copy of Risk! going but no dice. Used to play it a lot on my old 'puter. Uhh Freecell, Solitaire, and Minesweeper. Do those count? Stars! was a good game. Have to find the demo again. But that was before I formatted again so that don't count either. Really just biding my time. ------------------ Commander Chavik Spectre Fleet ICV Phoenix Official BC3K Tester "We Shall Arise From The Ashes"
