quote:posted by $iLk on 04-22-2004 11:55 AM "Heil Bush!" The President: "By the way, the reason I bring up the Patriot Act, its set to expire next year. Im starting a campaign to make it clear to members of Congress that it shouldnt expire. It shouldnt expire for the security of our country." The Truth: Less that 10 percent of the Patriot Act expires; most of the law is permanent and those portions that do sunset will not do so until December 31, 2005. The President: "And that changed, the law changed on- roving wiretaps were available for chasing down drug lords. They werent available for chasing down terrorists, see?" The Truth: Roving wiretaps were available prior to 9/11 against drug lords and terrorists. Prior to the law, the FBI could get a roving wiretap against both when it had probable cause of crime for a wiretap eligible offense. What the Patriot Act did is make roving wiretaps available in intelligence investigations supervised by the secret intelligence court without the judicial safeguards of the criminal wiretap statute. The President: " see, Im not a lawyer, so its kind of hard for me to kind of get bogged down in the law. (Applause). Im not going to play like one, either. (Laughter.) The way I viewed it, if I can just put it in simple terms, is that one part of the FBI couldnt tell the other part of the FBI vital information because of the law. And the CIA and the FBI couldnt talk." The Truth: The CIA and the FBI could talk and did. As Janet Reno wrote in prepared testimony before the 9/11 commission, "There are simply no walls or restrictions on sharing the vast majority of counterterrorism information. There are no legal restrictions at all on the ability of the members of the intelligence community to share intelligence information with each other. "With respect to sharing between intelligence investigators and criminal investigators, information learned as a result of a physical surveillance or from a confidential informant can be legally shared without restriction. "While there were restrictions placed on information gathered by criminal investigators as a result of grand jury investigations or Title III wire taps, in practice they did not prove to be a serious impediment since there was very little significant information that could not be shared." The President: "Thirdly, to give you an example of what were talking about, theres something called delayed-notification search warrants.  We couldnt use these against terrorists [before the Patriot Act], but we could use against gangs." The Truth: Delayed-notification - or so-called sneak-and-peek search warrants - were never limited to gangs. The circuit courts that had authorized them in limited circumstances prior to the Patriot Act did not limit the warrants to the investigation of gangs. In fact, terrorism or espionage investigators did not necessarily have to go through the criminal courts for a covert search - they could do so with even fewer safeguards against abuse by going to a top secret foreign intelligence court in Washington. For criminal sneak-and-peek warrants, the Patriot Act added a catch-all argument for prosecutors - if notice would delay prosecution or jeopardize an investigation - which makes these secret search warrants much easier to obtain. The presidents sneak-and-peek misstatement clearly demonstrates that the Patriot Act is not limited to terrorism. In fact, many of the laws expanded authorities can clearly be used outside the war on terrorism. The President: "Judges need greater authority to deny bail to terrorists." The Truth: The new presumptive detention that the president is proposing takes judicial authority away from the bail process. The presumption would take away the prosecutions burden of showing that the accused is a danger or flight risk and instead puts it on the accused. Street says: " Heil Bush? ". eek: "Looking more like it every day!!"

quote: This game sounds really interesting, but I can't quite get a handle on really what the point is. From MY perspective, "This game is "EVERYTHING" except "ARCADE"(i.e. sim, strategy, role play, adventure, Action, with MP BONUS). It is UP TO YOU, how you want it to be played. that's what I fell in love with. I say, down load the DEMO and check it out.

At least he would order it for you!!, NONE of the local stores here would even consider ordering it for me.(I got the general impression they didnt like Dreamscape, rather than that particular game), I ended up going with a Web order. And will probably order ALL my games from now on, rather than deal with a local who wouldnt even try to satisfy a customer. lol ...oh well.

And I imagine, the reason they keep going back to work after you take them off duty, is you Medical officer is countermanding your orders..LOL. put the MO in the brig for an hour, and maybe she will stop doing that... Either way, If your Med Officer, is off duty, you can dictate orders without those problems. Same goes for the CO, FO, and chief Engineer. I just send em to the brig for an extended stay, and(dont know if its real), but they appear to pay more attention to ME!!..

Not to put down mister titor, but personally, I believe he is attempting to pull someones VERY LONG chain!! There are inconsistancies in his story, as you read along, though his knowledge in CURRENT theory and debates concerning issues relative to TIME travel were quite extensive. The whole read was very amusing, and quite entertaining..

Just got this game, have a few questions
street228 replied to borggamma1's topic in Universal Combat Series
maybe, I should'nt be the one saying anything, but If it is a hard game to learn, would'nt that say that it has a HIGH learning curve? Read through this forum... the faqs on the cd or within the game directory... the manual...etc. and you will learn to play(without cheats I might add) or, just do like I did, and jump in and experiment, lol, thats what I do, and I have NEVER needed cheats to learn or enjoy ANY game. maybe you will die a lot, like I did, but dying can be FUN...LOL The most important thing is READ!! every fact you wish to know is public knowledge within these forums(try the search feature at the top of the page) or came with your game, I am sure of that. have fun!! -
quote: I have not encountered any stability issues with UC since then. Every system is different, AMD has always been better suited to overclocking, ever since way back, when we use to change out the crystals and add capps to the mother boards...LOL if it works..it works!! P.S. Ill NEVER tell, what my system CAN do.... only what it is designed to do ....

quote:I think its good to switch powers and dont let them keep it for long.Capitalism and socialism are 2 good ideas, but none of them is truly a good solution. You need to find balance between them. LOL what you are describing, is a general description of the American political system: other than the fact that we have a capitolist agenda within both sides of the spectrum. Though our swing from end to end, is more of a structure developed to place a check and balance to ensure dictorial and monoarchistic power never takes hold. We are, in fact changing; though many refuse to see the change. Theoretical debate throughout the years, has always stated, that TRUE SOCIALISM would be the IDEAL; however, this could only be accomplished if there were no GREED or PERSONAL ambition within the ranks of those in power. I do not believe this is possible, as it is basic to the nature of mankind to have Both these qualities. Another thing: Socialistic, and capitolistic ideology; are both brought into existance through change in CULTURE and what the population views as viable solutions to it's problems. Unfortunately, culture takes time to change, and is usually done through infiltration of the educational systems. this normally takes time. I do not like socialism, and I abhore the ideals of communisum. I see capitolism as less than perfect, but seeing all three with my own eyes, I must say the capitolistic way is the easiest upon its general population, but ONLY as long as the population maintains good morality and personal ethics. If you eliminate those, capitolism would be horrendous, and near impossible for the lower classes to endure. [ 04-19-2004, 05:19 PM: Message edited by: street ]

Just a personal view and opinon(i.e. Not looking for a debate!!) quote:History is repeating itself, AGAIN, and until we can scare a lot of people with the truth, instead of ignoring the fact that it's happening, the better. History is doomed to repeat itself, as long as the only "remembered history", is the product of those who win the wars. For there are viable views, if not justification, for the acts of all who choose to repel any deemed an oppressor; However, FEAR is the root of misunderstanding, which lies at the foundation of EVERY conflict in history. Though I agree complacient mindsets allow men to walk blindly into self destructive scenerios, I firmly believe EDUCATION, devoid of motivation by fear, is much more constructive in achieving positive results. I have also noted: throughout history, every national leader, of every political persuasion, who used FEAR as a tactic upon their population, used the FEAR, as an avenue to achieve a more daunting, and less respectable agenda. quote:you'll refer to as a "Debate" or "Discussion" in order to "cover up" you're "mistake" of "dooming" the world in a "the world is doomed" thread btw i only read the 2nd page And here, discussion and debate(I personaly feel) are two entirely different animals. and would pre fer the latter. As debates are nothing more than a way to attack, any with opposing opinion, to justify anothers ideology; however, a discussion, allows any and all opinions to be heard, and to be accepted or discarded by the individual who reads them. just my 2 cents, after reading this thread.

90% of overclocking problems with data transfer of packet communications with any digital device, is due to NOISE(i.e. cross talk between adjacent I/O lines) or simply a low(0) being mistaken for a high(1);thus corrupt information passed through the processor, ram, or other device within the system.

Have to buy new Grafikcard, need help :-)
street228 replied to Darkreaver1980's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
If money is an issue, the radeon 9200se is very inexpensive with acceptable usage for UC. extremely good price at Newegg.com. Since I already ordered my new system, I bought one for my existing system, so I could play UC until my new system arrives. -
I had the same problem, took me two weeks to discover, my particular problem was related to my cdrom driver. I ended up using the standard Adapti multi speed driver, and then everything worked fine. Also Make sure DMA access is checked on your cd rom setup. just something you should look at, not necessarily your particular problem.

Universal Combat - First Impressions
street228 replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Universal Combat Series
My first impressions? Well, I loaded the game, and started out in roam mode, thinking It would be about the same as BCMG, Wow, I loved the graphics of the ships, space stations and such. they,re GREAT!. I heard so much about the trees grass and such, I headed for earth. when I arrived and checked out the cities I was impressed. much imporvement. I hopped out and went for a stroll. Turned around and about Sh*t. there was a bear walking toward me. lol I really enjoyed exploring around. thought Id go for a swim and was again astounded at the reality of the sea floor and all the FISH. I spent a couple of days just checking out various sites on earth. Amazing job on the illusion of reality. After that I decided to check out the moon and do a little mining. leaving earth I took out my first opponant, and was AGAIN impressed at the realism. Loved the new jump gates BTW. Upon arriving at the moon I was ambushed by a cruiser and a couple of fighters. Man!, they had me afraid I was in for it, before I had a chance to check out the solar system. what a fight!! makes BCMG like childs play. Awesome. AND AGAIN I am impressed. After finally doing a suicide run at the cruiser, in an attempt to finish him ,all the while hearing about the damage I was sustaining and wondering if I was going to survive, I finally turned and entered planet fall. MOST exciting battle, I ever had..!!! ASTOUNDING REALISM. And just when I was thinking I could not be impressed more, I sent a shuttle to drop a drone, as proceeded to a landing waypoint, I realized the reality of the topography of the moon was so real, I felt I was really on the moon. Took me an hour to find a place to safely set down to do repairs. ALL in ALL the REALISM made me speechless. FANTASTIC JOB DEREK!!!!! Cant wait to do all the repairs and get underway..gonna take a few days...LOL -
quote:If we learn nothing from the mistakes of our history, then we are doomed to repeat them. Frightening thought, huh? Now, THAT is a piece of TRUTH, which needs only observation, concerning the present STATE of the world, to be validated. And, YES: "quite frightening" (maybe, we should try that prosaic, over 35% of our American population is addicted to.....). NOT!!!

Reading this article, is really depressing. I can say;however, "it really does'nt surprise me". This is the 'Age of Information'. And mostly DIGITAL information. The downside to this, is that much of the information is BIASED, and FALSE. People throughout the world are suffering from the onslaught of information. And are really quite confused as to How to seperate the TRUTH from that which is presented as truth. My brother and I, had a very heated arguement some months back, concerning a FACT which we both were very sure of. After some weeks of pushing it back and forth, we Finally decided it was time to dig up the TRUTH. We BOTH found reliable evidence, from respectable sources, reinforcing our own position to be absolute. We had to decide to find out which was TRUTH;at what point in time, and by who. Finally, we BOTH had to concede. We were BOTH right in our assumptions of having the real FACT; yet, we were both WRONG in that either answer was "THE FACT". NO ONE KNEW!!, but only speculated they knew, and presented their speculations as FACT. The Information Age?....I say, the "Mis-Information Age."

I have not come across the bug where the wraith station is auto-disabled,personally;however, I believe dat125 was referring to more than that one incident or bug. So, ZOTHEN, my answer is: "I don't know". My copy of UC is due to arrive tomorrow.

Well, Randomed the probe, my officer obediently told me the probe was destroyed, as was the whole planet. Dont know what the consequence will be(I am in a single player "ROAM" scenerio), but I must say, when first arriving here at obsidia, all hell broke loose(everyone and their brother had me on their most wanted list). Now its amazing how quiet it has become. I hope their is MORE to this, than just the shootem up stuff. I was hoping for some real brain teasers. So, if there are, then dont give away the answers, but it would be good to know if there are some. I have already taken over every space station in the galaxy, and have all the artifacts. I'm getting a little bored with destroying ships and planet assults are, more challenging, but too easy with the ots. just curious.... [ 04-06-2004, 02:09 PM: Message edited by: street ]

quote:If you can't fight the facts, You ignore the facts, and claim that the argument is no longer worthy of your time. No, Silk, YOU are not worthy of my time. The argument could be contested with no problem. I have been slandered ENOUGH. ALL your argument entails is saying someone said something other than what they said.(and those are lies, just as I quoted, before making my call) Then you have the audacity to argue to the contrary of your own concocted statements. Your continued slander has caused me to decide to permanantly leave the forum and you can have it..you and your friends. Enjoy your MP (you can play with yourselves) I dont need the idiotic dialog. or the ARGUMENT. Intelligent debate would have been refreshing, but THIS is rediculous. I think REMO has spoken the most intelligent. STOP the personal attacks or dont post. YOU can attack my PERSON all you choose, but the recourse brings retribution... so I will choose NOT to participate. keep feeding petting each other, Im outta here

quote:This is the first coherent argument I've seen you post in this topic. CongratsYou have to make valid points...FIRST. personally, I must say though, your position ,no matter how much you believe to be right, is the stand which has divided this country to the very core. Amd those who accept the Bush administration style foriegn and domestic practice, Are accepting the very Ideals, which the NAZI party was based, prior and upon the ELECTION of good ole ADOLF. I really DREAD to see where this may go, if he serves a second term. Believe what you must, and do what you will. It will be OUR children and grandchildren who will pay the ultimate price. have a nice day

the funny part is, I spent 6 years in the military myself. and am trying to converse while doing a rather technical job.(I am at work). If I appear distressed, not to worry, I take all things in stride. My only reason for the harshness of my responses, is that which is dealt to me, i give in return. I am still laughing, (as are my technician team here)wish you were here!
