update to Wraith Fleet availability times: Saturdays or Sundays 6pm-7.45pm GMT

OK, for those of you who want to follow the latest tactical situation in the current Fleet Action season, you can take a look at the current Campaign map. [ 09-15-2006, 07:35 PM: Message edited by: ShoHashi ]

The fleet rating system influences your fleets ability to continue to operate, it doesn't influence which ships you can use (the rules of the particular match type determine what ships you can use). The main idea is to destroy enemy fleets and capture space and planetary regions. Special operations missions can be used to restrict the enemy's options. The full handbook can be found here, though that's a long read (it covers everything). The mission orders thread has links to shorter more specific documents about the individual missions, their aims and what influence their outcomes have. (which is also in the handbook of course, these docs are just more bitesize descriptions of the particular situation you'll be facing in your next match.) The Fleet Action trial season will be using a reduced game map incorporating only the Alpha Centauri and Tau Ceti regions. All exits from these two regions will be considered collapsed and inactive. So far we have three teams registered, who's details are given below: Galcom Alliance: ISS Fleet: Marc Wubbema (team leader) Prez (team vice-leader) Krasus (alliance document handler) Jack Decker Jerold Keenan Starting Location: Cronus/Alpha Centauri Wraith Fleet (a combined Wraith-CIOPS task force) Ben Zwycky (team leader) Case (team vice-leader) Ixos Rip Starting Location: Centris/ Alpha Centauri Insurgent Alliance: Spectre Fleet: Shohashi (team leader) Eclipse (alliance document handler) aramike WeeGee Shaeffer RedComet Starting Location: Nevuela/Alpha Centauri see the Campaign map for all fleet current locations and strength ratings. Fleet leaders, please post in this thread to state your team's general availability times and notify of any changes to your team listing situation. Wraith Fleet: Saturdays and Sundays 6.30pm-7.30pm GMT

The Fleet Action trial season is almost upon us, and this thread will be for listing the members of any Fleet Teams that will be taking part this season, as well as for designating the Team Leader for each team. Only team listing posts made by the designated Team Leader will be considered authoritative, and the Fleet Action multiplayer module will be adjusted accordingly. In the spirit of co-operation between the galcom fleets and in order to avoid the problem of people applying to more than one fleet at once, by unanimous vote among Galcom fleet leaders an alliance-wide Galcom Academy has been formed and is in the final stages of preparation to receive it's first applicants. Once it is officially opened (in the next couple of days), all new applicants to a Galcom fleet will be directed there for initial combat training and instruction on the various roles that the fleets have, it will no longer be possible to apply to a Galcom fleet directly. Once you enroll at Galcom Academy, you will be unable to move on to any non-galcom fleet. If you wish to join the Insurgents or other organisation, you must approach them yourself. Once you graduate, you can then move on to a specific Galcom fleet for further fleet-specific training and full fleet membership, with all that entails. The academy will cater for those with Universal Combat, Universal Combat: A World Apart, and Universal Combat: Special Edition, providing a UC multiplayer server on request for online training sessions, and downloadable offline training missions for those currently unable to play online, but who still wish to take part in fleet activities. New recruits wanting to join, report here
Ben Zwycky replied to Cartmanbeeps's topic in Wraith Fleet
So which is it you want to join, Prime or Wraith? -
OK, the fleet AWA server is now up and running 24/7. In other news Commander Prez has been promoted to level 4 security clearance for his long-term dedication and contribution to the fleet and positive contribution to the community as a whole. He has acted with honour and integrity and I am very glad to be able to promote him in this way. Congratulations, Commander Prez, may you serve well in your new reponsibilities (I know you will)

ok, great, I can make the whole thing, then. Thanks
-
I can make that, but might not be able to stay for the whole thing. Would another half hour earlier be a problem?
-
9pm GMT would be 11pm for me (I'm in GMT+2 with daylight saving time). Couldn't it be a little earlier? If not, just send me the transcript.
-
I guess not then. When is it scheduled for?
-
I assume the fleet leader's meeting is in half an hour on Rip's teamspeak server. If any of you don't have an account there, PM me the username and password you want to use, and I'll create it for you.
-
why couldn't you just continue in the other thread?
-
My wife was just laughing about that, yesterday we got a job translating an IMAX film about the apollo moon landings. Maybe that's where the tapes disappeared off to ?
-
don't go spamming their inbox. Make sure the name of the game is in the subject field of the email or it gets rejected by their spam filter. It's all in the thread for getting new CD-keys here
-
nope, you get 100 EP for destroying a hostile transport (plus whatever cargo you salvage from it if it releases a cargo pod on destruction), just like you do for other craft types (see the experience point chart in the manual appendix) you get more EP for delivering it to a station, as well as a guaranteed amount of cash (and no guilty conscience for killing a defenceless ship )
-
It's not correct, you can skip to the top upgrade straight away (as long as you have the cash to buy it), just some craft (e.g. transports) cannot use the top of the line upgrades at all and others can't use the artifact system upgrades (only heavy carriers can use artifact upgrades- super carriers, cruisers and transports can't (see the upgrades page in the manual appendix for details))

Try copying and pasting into word, then changing the font or increasing the size and comparing them with a B and 8, O and 0, or copying, pasting and using those individual characters as letters in simple words, then running a spell check on them, that'll tell you whether they are letters or numbers.
-
Great news on the server, I've downloaded realVNC, but haven't installed it yet. Marc is an expert with that, another skill I'll should learn at some point. The latest version for AWA is 1.00.16, so use the 'check for updates' link in the start menu for as many times as necessary to get it there . Dedicated server mode is fine, I thought I said that was what we wanted, we will need to reset the game from time to time to restore destroyed stations and save server chat logs etc, if that could be done via VNC, that would be ideal. We can discuss this over TS or IM if you like. Sig is looking good What you do with your home system is up to you. If you want to be able to play both AWA on your server and UCSE on the public servers, then you'll have to get the full versions.

Prime Fleet Leader Election
Ben Zwycky replied to ShoHashi's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Well, they were usually held on a Sunday evening GMT (7pm GMT was the norm, that is doable for me though slightly late with daylight saving time still in effect.) -
Prime Fleet Leader Election
Ben Zwycky replied to ShoHashi's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Congrats, Kal! May you serve Galcom well in your new post, and reward the community for the faith it has placed in you. -
Hence the proposal, to ease your workload and share out the projects you're working on among the talented people in this community.

Universal Combat SE Demo Released!
Ben Zwycky replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Game Demo Discussions
That was actually in the EFP version, jumping immediately (within 5 seconds of deploying) and manually flying as fast as possible into the region. Fighters were already on their way to the warcry, and destroyed it before I could even jump there (21:02, two minutes into the mission). Next time I tried it, there was no problem getting there in time. It's unpredictable how quickly enemy fighters attack the Warcry. With that neural net AI, no scenario is exactly the same twice -
Universal Combat SE Demo Released!
Ben Zwycky replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Game Demo Discussions
Tried another couple of times, last time I jumped to lyrius before I even got my orders, but before my hyperdrive engines recharged when I arrived in Lyrius (2 minutes into the mission, 30 seconds before it was theoretically possible for me to even arrive near the ship I'm supposed to be protecting, let alone attack the fighter that was going after it), the Warcry was already dead. I think the longest I've seen it last was 4-5 minutes. I destroyed all the capital craft in the region and got my EP into the positive again, but it juts doesn't seem possible to stop it getting killed, maybe you just need a lot of luck for it to last until you can arrive and affect the outcome. I'll give it another couple of goes tomorrow maybe, time for bed now.
