  1. time for a and a great to see the support we've all had over the years, we understand how annoying we've all been at one time or another and really appreciate you sticking through with us. Congrats, SC!
  2. edit time lapsed, one little point to add All good stories (as well as most bad ones) involve characters dealing with problematic situations that are compounded by other problems, whether they are cultural, political, logistical, physical, emotional etc. A character without problems isn't a character, it's a prop.
  3. Nope, not at all, what an odd objection, and suprising it came from so many people at once. 'Perfect' characters don't exist, those people were obviously far too keen to escape from reality. Characters with disorders or disabilities make for excellent stories, though they take a lot more work to do well than 'ordinary' folk, since you need to have detailed inside knowledge of their condition and how they go about facing everyday tasks and situations, so that you can effectively portray their perspective in a non-condescending way. Maybe it was something about your approach to the character that they were upset about (I don't know, I haven't read what you wrote), or maybe they were secretly feeling guilty about their own attitudes to the blind or something. Who knows?
  4. I burst into tears of relief after we said our I do's (In the Czech ceremony, you just say ano (yes), I said both just to make sure ), it was a great day from then on (was pretty good up until then, too, just last-minute nerves at the vow point built up surprisingly quickly) God's peaceful and loving prescence be with you in a special way today, and bind you two firmly and joyfully together from here on. What a difference a couple of years makes, eh? Very happy for you, Daniel
  5. Yep, wolfie's right, if the child wants to get attention by causing a scene, it needs to learn that that is the fastest way to get sent somewhere it can't cause a scene. A bit of consistent discipline can work wonders, the most important thing is to teach them that the same rules apply everywhere, and that you won't back down before they do. Unity among parents/adults is key to that. Discuss and agree on what is and isn't acceptable and what to do about it, then when one of you make a stand, all the others should back them up immediately (if you weren't in the room when the stand was made, ask what was said, checking with the adult in question wherever possible), that way they can't play you off against each other and get away with anything. If you make a mistake, apologise, but don't just appease them to avoid making a scene, that's exactly what they're counting on.
  6. You applied to ISS fleet. If you want to join Earthcom, you should choose Vanguard from the 'desired fleet:' drop-list when making your application. I'm just going to refuse your application so you can try it again, I don't have the authority to accept you and then transfer you to Vanguard, only a fleet database admin can do that. OK?
  7. That's going to be a good one, but will they be able to deal with all those storylines at once in sufficient depth?
  8. those times are just outside my reliable availability times (7-9pm GMT (12-2pm pacific daylight time). Occasionally I'm available outside those times, but I can't say for sure beforehand (it just depends on the situation that day. Mondays from 3-4.30pm GMT (8-9.30am Pacific Daylight time) is another possibility, but maybe not this coming Monday.
  9. OK, the Czech Re[public has officially committed suicide now, it's up to the USA to make use of it.
  10. Why o why doesn't Karel Bruckner play Marek Heinz? He's a quality attacking midfielder/striker, scored twice in Euro 2004 and has had no injury problems Why does he insist on playing Polak, who can't pass or shoot and is a bad tackler? Polak didn't mark his man for the goal, and just got himself sent off in the stupidest possible way 30 seconds from the end of the first half Argh!
  11. yeah, but you can just ask SC for a new CD key if you end up reinstalling too many times. There shouldn't be a problem since you're a well-known and contributing member of the community
  12. Scientists reach 0.5 THz, say 1THz possible at room temperature 0.35 THz at room temperature isn't bad for starters
  13. quote: Originally posted by Vixef: Too bad the Czech team has lost so many good players. I like their game a lot. Nedved, though, is still going strong. How old is he? Looks like we might get Baros back (hopefully for the Italy game) Nedved is 33 now, Nedved's profile
  14. Sales options for AWA can be found here The cheapest option would be as a download from Direct2Drive (no postage to be paid), with BMT micro you have to pay postage, but you get the patch updates slightly sooner (they have to be re-encrypted with Direct2Drive's DRM before being released, which takes a few days) Hey, don't sell yourself short on that championship title. You got two kills in that final deathmatch tie-breaker (more than me if memory serves correctly), which made all the difference. Your name is the hall of fame on merit.
  15. not to be (not that we deserved to go in the lead this half)- yet another draw with Sweden.
  16. Yes! Gerrard from Cole's cross right in the top corner. 5 minutes to defend our lead and break the Swedish victory drought...
  17. Looks like England have forgotten how to defend corners, no more lead
  18. England one up at half time and looking solid The draw is semi-random, sometimes you get a tough group, sometimes easy.
  19. You want schizophrenic, the Czech team was awesome against the USA and terrible against Ghana- in the second half they didn't attack or defend adn constantly gave the ball away whenever they got it, the only one who showed any interest in the game was Petr Cech, the goalkeeper, we were really lucky to only lose 2-0, it was appalling. That was a really good fighting performance by the USA against Italy when you guys were down to 9 men, your lack of goals is a worry though. The USA-Czech Republic-Italy-Ghana group is the most exciting going into the final match, almost any combination of qualifiers is possible, with the exception of both Ghana and the USA going through. I'd like the USA and the Czech Republic to go through, though that is the least likely possibility, we'd both have to win by a combined margin of 6 goals, or by a combined margin of 5 if the USA score 3 more times against Ghana than the Italians do against us. I'm supporting England and the Czech Republic at the moment, hoping that England can get their attacking formation going and that the Czechs can overcome these injury problems and their dire performance in their last match. England are up tonight (in 4 and a half hours), then it's crunch time for the USA and Czech Republic on Thursday. Gripping stuff (though frustrating at times)
  20. Hehe. Wife liked it as well, just starting to get into the whole e-auctioning scene over here (I called it preventative therapy- she insists she's not that far gone yet )
  21. I noticed that a week or so ago. Zane's fleetaction site was also hit (that has now been taken down as it was in the process of being moved elsewhere). I noticed a couple of extra admin accounts at issfleet.com which I deleted. We're also regularly backing up our database in several locations. I've sent Rip an email on this asking if there's anything else we can do.
  22. nope, no crashes there, shuttle is destroyed as normal. I went on to destroy my CC with my sabre and there were no problems there either (ending the game after showing the explosion as it should)
  23. I can confirm that the above steps in sp produce a game hang on my machine as well. I also tried exiting the shuttle (Alt E) and shooting it to destruction with my sabre rifle. I heard the explosion noise, but the game hung again with no explosion animation.
  24. Commander Super M of the Piranha is the latest addition to Wraith's ranks. Just when those up to no good though it was safe to enter the water...
  25. Thanks for your interest in Wraith fleet. Please put your system profile in your signature (to show you have a legal copy of a battlecruiser game (and which one)) and then apply in the fleet database (remembering to choose Wraith Fleet from the fleet drop list, and Wraith Fleet Academy from the desired wing list). Once you're in, we can go through the rest of the administrative formalities and get you up and running. Playing online can be done with dial-up relatively well, though broadband is recommended. Any more questions?
