Universal Combat SE Demo Released!
Ben Zwycky replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Game Demo Discussions
Oh, for a decent video card, no one have an AGP X800 AGP going spare, do they? IÔÇÖll just have to have all the video options on minimum and enjoy the full beauty via other peopleÔÇÖs screenshots. Played the naval carrier defence scenario, and long run as both a commander and EFP. Staying alive and racking up some kills isnÔÇÖt too hard if IÔÇÖm careful, but that firestorm is just too fragile and itÔÇÖs crew seem to lose the will to live all too quickly . IÔÇÖll give it another go or two and concentrate more on defending the ship. -
I run Hitman pro every so often (English text is at the bottom of the page), it sequentially downloads and runs a series of antivirus and anti spyware programs, takes a while but catches a lot. I'm downloading AVG now, thanks for the tip, $ilk.

Updater is still giving the same error, only now after downloading the patch. Is there another way to get the latest version of the updater?

Nothing of this has been set up yet, IÔÇÖm just presenting a proposal here to see if this is worth doing. As I mentioned earlier in another thread, there are several projects that we have planned or partially completed, but there is a lot of work to do on them, and there are few of us with the time and expertise to see them through to completion. In an intelligent community like ours, there must be plenty of people skilled in web application and module creation, so what I am proposing is a space where people can come together, pool their talents and resources, and work on and test modules and applications that the entire community can enjoy and make use of. We can create a subdomain at ISS for this very purpose, to be named the foundry or shipyard (yet to be decided),with itÔÇÖs own phpnuke environment, forum, database and ftp accounts for sharing work in progress and plans, requesting feedback and assistance and testing out modules and projects before providing them to the community at large by relocating them to official fleet website(s). This means nobody has to worry about security issues or about possibly messing up someoneÔÇÖs site. Your opinions, gentlemen?

Prime Fleet Leader Nominations
Ben Zwycky replied to ShoHashi's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Good case, well made, Marv. I was thinking of nominating Kal myself, slipped my mind with all the fleet administrative stuff I've been working on lately. -
That's exactly what mine looks like, only the version line reads version=1.00.15 and it won't download the new patch.
-
Heath Ledger? I didn't see that one coming. Nolan has proven he knows what he's doing, so I guess we're going to see a whole new concept of the Joker. I'm intrigued.

I'm getting a weird error with the updater, it connects to the server and reports that there is a new patch available (1.00.16.01), I click next and am taken to the progres bar, but then instad of downloading the new patch, an error window comes up, saying Error Can't copy file Updater. on clicking the more button, it displays There can be several reasons for this error. The file is not available or the file is in use by another application.

CTD during OTS Detonation
Ben Zwycky replied to grimm_spector's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
just tried it myself, no CTD here Started new roam game with no NPC autogeneration, headed back to galcom HQ and docked, unloaded and sold everything in the ship's stores, bought a tanix OTS jumped to earth, selecting to not enter the atmosphere activated TacOps, zoomed in on a raider base, selected ODS then Tanix, aimed and launched at the base follwed the ODS all the way in via F10, automatically switched to spectator view, watched the OTS drop and destroy the base, switched back to bridgeview via F1 and carried on as normal. In your system profile it says Intel 4 1.8 GHz. Is that correct? In which case, that would be below the minimum system requirements. -
That we are. Your new signature should read CIOPS Director of Security - ISS Fleet and the image in your signature should be CIOPSloop.gif and not Defenceloop.gif (it's in the same folder, so no need to touch anything else). We don't see enough of that animation here .

As has already been mentioned over here, for being the first member of Wraith to surpass 30,000EP, Commander Case has been promoted to Wraith Fleet Leader. His database access has been suitably adjusted, as well as his access at Wraith HQ. Commander Case, please adjust your signature accordingly and serve in your new post with the honour and energy you have shown so far.
-
In that case, may I be the first to publicly congratulate Case on his promotion? I have updated his access to the fleet database and at Wraith forums. Congratulations to the new Wraith Fleet Leader! May you be the reason for many a galactic ghost story.

Fleets General Info Pinboard
Ben Zwycky replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Sent, though I'll do a roll call to see if I can entice any others out of the woodwork -
After ISS administration staff approved changes to our fleet charter that reward logistical and web support work for the fleet, Commander Rip's outstanding long-term web support and security work has earned him promotion to security clearance level 4, and he is hereby offered the position of CIOPS Director of Security, should he choose to accept it. Congratulations, Commander Rip, about time someone noticed all you do, eh?
-
Through his dedication to the fleet, Commander Case of the Echelon has earned promotion to Level 4 Security Clearance and is hereby promoted to leader of the Wraith Special Operations Group. Congratulations, Commander Case, on your achievement. Galcom's enemies will have no idea what hit them

More than fair. Come on guys, there is tons of room to be creative within the existing structures, you just need to use your imaginations. Isn't AWA freeform enough for you ?
-
I'm sure Rattler could be enticed back here, I know a number of you have his contact details, it's definitely worth a try. Both Blades and Ristar have made appearances, promising to return more fully at a later date (I have had further personal assurances in that regard from Ristar). Jerold Keenan has recently become active again within ISS, though has yet to make a significant comeback at these forums (I'm sure he could, he's just catching up with all that we have changed while he was away, and is going to be taking part in fleet action). Aramike and WeeGee recently came back and are contributing to the community. We at ISS are currently working on or planning a number of projects that could be offered to the community as a whole (Marc is pretty overloaded with them all), if anyone else here is skilled in programming php-nuke, we can make them community-wide projects and host them at a fleet-neutral site (or here if SC is in favour). As far as the fleets themselves are concerned, there are a number of areas with plenty of room: The Gammulan Alliance is basically dead, and has been for a long time. That is virgin territory ripe for positive and imaginative ideas, wherever they come from. The other races haven't been explored at all, again ripe for new and imaginatve ideas. Raiders: I'm sure plenty of people long to be the scourge of the space lanes, either on their own or as part of a wolfpack. Corporations: InterCorp Unlimited put all the fleets to shame for a while with its activity adn the enthusiasm of it's members, then somehow faltered and faded away, I can't remember the reasons for that. I know that another one is being planned at the moment, but there's always room for more than one. The existing fleets: some of them do appear to be static and inflexible, with their core structure and purpose set in stone. That can be a positive thing when it is used as a solid foundation to build on and progress, when you have a definite direction and vision for your fleet that people can buy into, but when structures that serve no practical purpose are held on to because that's the way things have always been done, people's enthusiasm gets drained away. I love unconventional thinking (as some of you may have noticed ), taking a step (or 5 ) back and evaluating why we do things the way we do, being prepared to make radical changes to achieve something worthwhile and enable a new form of activity that people will enjoy. Let's start a 'What do you want fleets to be?' thread where we can have input from absolutely anyone, we can discuss new ideas, adopting, adapting and building on the good ones, letting people know that we value their input.

Prime Fleet Leader Nominations
Ben Zwycky replied to ShoHashi's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Temporarily collapsing Orion into Prime has it's merits, as it is easier to build up one fleet and then then use it to seed another than to attempt to build two from scratch at the same time. As I see it, there would be basically two ways of going about it (not mutually exclusive) 1. All Orion members would be moved into Prime as Orion Wing, with the same rp role as Orion Fleet has now (much like the Insurgents did when they collapsed all of their fleets into Spectre as wings). When Prime has gained enough active members to be able to split into two without going below critical mass (5-6 active members) then those who volunteer to join Orion can reform it as a fleet in its own right, along with whoever came to Prime from Orion in the first place. 2. All Orion members would be moved into Prime and placed into its existing structure wherever they best fit (the name of Orion effectively disappearing, or Orion Wing/Group/whatever you want to call it being present in Prime, but serving only as a reminder that Orion must be reformed one day). When Prime is big enough to split into two as above, then those commanders who have performed the best in combat (MP) (and are not yet in command positions within Prime that they would be unwilling to give up) will pool their talents and form Orion Fleet, fitting in with the rp origin of Orion (though it was formed from the SDF in rp history, close enough IMO) Sound good? You guys have my full support with whatever direction you want to take this. -
Prime Fleet Leader Nominations

I was nominated but declined the offer. -
Commander Ixos has become the third Commander of WRaith's new generation to reach level 3 security clearance. Commander Ixos, you may now choose to move up to a heavy carrier should you so wish, and once the renovations to the residential deck of Wraith HQ are complete, you can move into your own quarters and offices there. Congratulations, Commander Ixos!
