  1. OK, I can start the fleet match from 1830 GMT if we wanted to get started earlier to fit everything in (which I assume we still do)
  2. Close on the Czech one, it should be Vesel├® V├ínoce
  3. That's fine, that's what I thought, I just wanted to be sure, and hear from Chavik and Dreada, if they're still around.
  4. Have a great Christmas, everyone!
  5. I had the ranking scores to decide things in my original version, then if that was tied go to an individual faceoff. I then took it out because I thought it would take too long to add up. OK, I was only hoping to avoid the possible situation of someone continually running away and dragging the whole thing out unnecessarily, unlikely to happen, so we can scrub that. I'm fine with using shuttles, too, I think I left that in by accident. I did intend leaving the combat zone to count as a kill for the other team, thanks Remo. People agree on upgrades/cloaking being OK in the individual matches, or is the individual tournament going to be a completely different format? I haven't heard any proclamation on how that will run.
  6. Happy b'day Papi! HAve a virtual one on me
  7. Yeah, but there aren't any decent MB's without integrated soundcards, and I was more interested in it's RAID capabilities. I was originally also wanting to go for 2x WD 10k rpm Raptors 37 GB plus another cheap 160 GB drive for cheap storage, but it was a bit pricy, and the shop was out of stock of 37 GB Raptors. I have win2k, and no intention to upgrade to XP. I have a headset, and 5.1 speakers, and am looking only at monitors without integrated speakers. Is it possible to partition a drive consisting of multiple hard disks RAIDed together?
  8. So, is that doable, or not?
  9. OK, here's my proposal The Arena This is a scenario for use as a tie breaker in fleet matches and for the individual player knockout tournament. Rules Of Engagement [*]1. No use of Capital ship support units. (Fighters, shuttles) [*]2. Capital ships may not enter planet zones. [*]3. Only main gun, missiles and mines allowed- No PTA. [*]4. Players are not allowed to leave the combat region (Castrin) except to respawn after being destroyed. [*]5. Players must respawn and re-enter the combat region (Castrin) within 10 minutes of being destroyed, or they will be counted as destroyed again. Launch/Respawn Regions Galcom Players: Paladian Starstation in Procon Insugent Players: Resilient Starstation in Gaulan Umpire: Freeport Station in Castrin (must log in as a terran trader) Match Procedure Version 1 (tie breaker): Time Limit: 30 Minutes Player Respawns: Unlimited All chat windows remain open Players must send their ship info to the umpire, and again each time they respawn. The umpire will remain in close proximity to the station and oversee the rules are kept, communicating via chat to all players, and also periodically announce how much time remains, and a provisional score on request. If anyone destroys the umpireÔÇÖs vessel, they instantly forfeit the match for their team. Scoring [*] 1. The Umpire announces the end of the Match exactly 30 Minutes after announcing the start of the match. [*] 2. Whichever team scores the most kills during that period wins the match. [*] 3. If a player is killed by friendly fire, that counts as a kill for the other team. [*] 4. If the total number of kills for each team is tied, then each team chooses a champion to face off against the other teamÔÇÖs champion in version 2. ÔÇÖ to all. OK, thatÔÇÖs my proposal. Comments/suggestions are welcome. Other issues to consider- should upgrades/cloaking be allowed in individual matches? On Sunday we provisionally said they shouldnÔÇÖt be allowed in the team tie-breaker, so whatÔÇÖs the consensus (especially among those taking part in the individual tournament)? Speaking for myself, I donÔÇÖt have a problem with them, but if other people think they shouldnÔÇÖt be allowed, then I wonÔÇÖt object.
  10. Training at the weekend would be awkward. It'd have to be really early Sunday morning for you, Rip (possibly from 1400 GMT, 1430 at the latest, I'm at church from 1600 to ~1800 GMT, able to be online at 1830, maybe slightly earlier at a real squeeze.
  11. Yeah, I was looking at LG as well, but the best local shop has all LG LCD monitors "temporarily unavailable". I'll probably try for the Samsung and see if I can fit in the 3 CL3 DIMMS. Thanks for the advice.
  12. It'd be cool to see Orion active again.
  13. OK, the time is soon approaching for my new comp. My budget is ready, my basic choices are clear, but I have a few options. First, the basic configuration, then the alternatives. ASUS K8N-E Socket 754 nForce3 250Gb AGP 8x 2xRAID S-ATA 4xUSB 2.0 2xFirewire onboard 8-channel audio and Gigabit LAN AMD 64 3400+ Newcastle Boxed 2x512MB Kingston 400MHz CL 2.5 3x80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 PLUS 80GB, S-ATA NCQ, 8MB cache, 7200rpm (630MB/s transfer rate) Lite-ON 52x CD-ROM Lite-ON SOHW-1653S DVD 16x+R 12x-R 4x┬▒RW 4x+R9 Ergo Chicony Keyboard Genius Wireless Optical Mouse 800DPI 17ÔÇØLCD Hyundai L70N TFT contrast 500:1 Luminance 300 cd/m2 refresh time 12ms TCO99 Edimax EN-9130 TXL 10/100 PCI without bootrom OR US Robotics 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit NIC PCI adapt├®r [uSR997902] (for the old comp to link them together and share our new DSL connection (sometime next month) (the router is 4x10/100 Ethernet) I would move over my old Radeon 9200 (and possibly SB audigy player) from my current PC. And I would ask the shop to recommend the case and power supply to cope with this setup (and more for when the 9200 eventually canÔÇÖt cope any more and I put an X800 in there) comfortably with no heat or stability issues, and get them to build it so I have their guarantee on it. This setup gives me a little room in my budget for improvements, but IÔÇÖm not sure which changes would make the most difference. 1. It has to be an LCD monitor, because we havenÔÇÖt got room for another CRT. IÔÇÖm not very familiar with LCD monitors, as to which are good manufacturers, but Hyundai is a big name, and their offering was pretty cheap. Other manufacturers offered even cheaper 17ÔÇØ screens, but IÔÇÖve never heard of them (BENQ, NEOVO, Prestigio) Are those Good manufacturers? IÔÇÖm assuming you want high contrast, low brightness and low refresh time to reduce eye strain. Some pricier ones from Samsung and Acer caught my eye: Samsung 710N 600/300/12 17ÔÇØ Acer 500/250/12 19ÔÇØ The Acer one would require sacrificing one 80GB drive to fit it in the budget, the Samsung one merely by swapping the three 80GB drives for two 120GB drives, or dropping the memory to CL 3 2. Memory. Does Core Latency affect performance significantly? Would it be better to have 2 512 MB DIMMÔÇÖs at CL 2.5 or 3 512MB DIMMÔÇÖs at CL 3 (A little more expensive, but not that much)? 3. Would having 2 120GB drives be noticably slower than 3 80GB drives? with 3 80 GB drives thereÔÇÖs more flexibility in arranging them, you can have all three RAID 0ÔÇÖd together for stunning speed, or just two of them with the third a separate drive to give you more space, keeping the more demanding programs on the faster drive 4. Is it possible to use the network cards to directly link between the two computers at Gigabit speed and at the same time seperately connect to the broadband router (which only runs at 100Mb/s max)? IÔÇÖm guessing not, so thereÔÇÖd be no point in going for the faster network card. Thakns in advance for your help
  14. I have a proposal ROE for the individual tournament and would appreciate comments/suggestions. Should I post it here or create a new thread?
  15. OK, guys I know it might be holiday time for some of you this week (and I donÔÇÖt think anyone wants to play on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day) so I was thinking of planning a training session this Wednesday or Thursday sometime between 1800 and 2100 GMT (those are my limits on this connection and in this time zone) for a last minute run through before the fleet tournament final. [rp]It is fitting that we are up against the Insurgents, since CIOPS is a galaxy-wide counter-insurgency organisation, amongst other things. They have broken through PrimeÔÇÖs Ranks and ISS is all that stands between them and total domination of team mp! CIOPS and Defense, live up to your names and illustrious histories! Stand up and be counted to quench this great threat to our homeworld.[/rp] Come on, guys, I know youÔÇÖre out there, we can get a team together. Rip, are you on top of your connection problems? Anyone know when ZaneÔÇÖll be back from his classified Hawaiian mission ? All I need is one other guy to have a valid team, and two other guys for a full team, and if I can give you some training beforehand, we stand a good chance of winning. We still have a reasonable chance even if we only have one of you with no training. Sound off!
  16. We just got lucky. No -one from Wraith turned up to the tournament, but I was there for us so we got a bye through to the finals, which'll be held next Sunday before the individual tournament. This means we have one more week to get a team together and practise. We'll be facing off against the Insurgents. Get sharp, people!
  17. I'll be there. I hope I can stay awake long enough if we get through to the final.
  18. great. I'll be on the fleet TS server in 5 minutes. See you there.
  19. OK, I feel like an idiot now. We agreed ages ago to go out with friends this Saturday night, and I completely forgot about it. WeÔÇÖll have to change the start time to 1400 or 1500 (at a tight squeeze maybe 1600) GMT, IÔÇÖm really sorry. Can anyone make those times? If so reply here as soon as you read this. Otherwise IÔÇÖll just turn up on the Fleet Teamspeak server at 1500 GMT and wait for 15 minutes. If no one comes, thereÔÇÖll be no training, which would be a great pity, because this is the last chance to get you ready for the tournament finals.

I'm posting this here as well because we should really be using this thread for arranging training sessions.
  21. Sounds like a real useful meeting... Gotta make one one day...
  22. I'm afraid I'm on dial-up, so I'm not online long enough to justify using ICQ. That will change in the new year, when I'll be getting basic broadband. We can arrange stuff through PM's here, though, no problem. I'm doing a fleet training session from 1800 GMT on Saturday, probably until around 1930-2000 GMT, so we could meet up after then.
  23. OK, while I was away someone approved a Commander going by the name of Jorgat to the fleet database. He's flying the GCV Gettysburg, but has yet to put in an appearance here on the forums. I would like him to take the opportunity to introduce himself, so he can get to enjoy all the benefits of fleet membership. Commander, if you please...
  24. It's smaller, but with more stations per system than in single player, and a lot more ways to get from one system to another. Dennymala is also italian, so you can ask him stuff in italian through PM if you don't know how to ask something in English, and there are a few other European mp players around, like myself (Czech Republic), Dreada (England) and Papi(Finland), we could meet up at the weekend at a more convenient time for you, since our time zones are much closer to yours. Welcome to our adventure
  25. OK, we need three members for a full team for the fleet tournament on Sunday at 1900 GMT. I'll be there, I'm sort of counting on Rip to be there, but we know Zane won't be, so we need someone else. If need be we'll play shorthanded or accept substitutes, but I would much prefer to have a full team. If you are coming, then please come to the next team training session at 1800 GMT (work out for yourself what time this is in your time zone) on Saturday the 19th of December (this coming Saturday). We will need to run through some things together (or at least meet so I can tell you what will happen there.) I'm asking very nicely
