  1. Cmdr Miller got a GF3!!!! That is right folks. Stopped on my way to work today. Got to the North Hills Pittsburgh Best Buy around 6:40am, and the line was already several hundred people long. After seeing all the people ahead of me, I really didn't think I would have a chance. When I got into the store at 7:05, I made a bee line to the Video Card shelf, as this was my only intended purchase. As I rounded the corner and started eyeing up the shelf, it was empty. But just then, somebody reached for the top self, and my eye followed his hand. Sitting on the top was 2 Visiontek boxes. He grabed the one on the left, glanced at it, and walked away without taking it. So as I was standing there, looking at the shelfs for a misplaced one, I looked up at the one on the right and wouldn't you know it. The LAST Geforce3 Ti200 was mine for the taking, and to the cash register I went. Left the store and made to work on time, with lots a minutes to spare. The box on the left must have contained a GF2, I don't know, didn't care to know. Akira, I hope you made out just as good as I did. This purchase now qualifies my new rig as being "BCM Capable", one month ahead of schedule, and I couldn't be happier! Now the icing on the cake would be if my copy of BCM would arrive in the mail today. EDIT: I just called my wife, (Who is home today) and asked her if a "package" came for me today. This is the response I got: "Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. You will just have to find out when you get home." Arrgghhh!!! How can that Sim loving woman be so damn cruel to me today???? Damn, I am now in agony. I got the Vidcard, and I am assuming I got the game; but I am stuck here at work till 4:30pm est. All I want to do is go home, do a little open box surgery on my machine, and enjoy the sites of BCM. Is that too much to ask??? [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  2. I too have been putting together a new rig. After a guick stop to Best Buy, it is now BCM ready; one month ahead of schedule. The complete machine should be done by the end of Fedruary.
  3. Same to you Derek. I have to say, I have now been a part of this community now for 2 years, and has been a great joy in my life. I have never know a game to be so vast, and enjoyable till my BC3K came along. May you have many great returns for all the hard work you do. Thanks to you Derek.
  4. Rumor has it, that in tomorrow's (Thursday) paper, The Bestbuy flier with have the Visiontek Geforce3 Ti200 card included in the "After Thanksgiving" sale for $99. That would be $199.99 - $50 Instant Rebate - $50 Mail-in Rebate = $99.99 Also the Western Digital 60gb 5400rpm HDD, Final price after rebates = $49.99 I have yet to confirm if this is actually true or not, and if it is, I don't know if it is a 2 day sale, or a 5 hour sale. Hopefully this is a 2 day sale which means that after work on Friday, I am heading to Bestbuy. If it is only a 5 hour sale, I just may have to come to work a little late on Friday. So grab the paper tomorrow and check it out for yourself.
  5. If you do create MP3's, make sure you turn off any copy protection options your MP3 creator uses. I had a problem beta testing when I created my MP3's with Real Jukebox, and they wouldn't play in BCM. After I turned off the copy protection, and recreated them, everything went smoothly. Have fun.
  6. That's the Spirit, Cadet! However, before you graduate, I suggest you study a little harder for the spelling bee. [ 11-20-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  7. Well, my 1990 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4, just had its 128000 mile oil change (Yea, I know, I was a little late). I asked the guy if I could look at the underside while it was up on the rack, as PA inspection is comming in March. I noticed I need a new tail pipe, and my gas tank has a very small leak in it. I knew I needed a new tail pipe, but am glad I waited. Can you imagine what might've happened if they used a blow torch to install a new tail pipe???
  8. quote:Originally posted by Akira: hehe, have you ever seen 72pin simms jammed into all 4 pci slots... hehe, no wonder the computer wouldn't reboot. It made me wonder if the person first tried to fit the ISA video card into the ram slots. Oh man. I just knew that he would be using the cd tray as a cup holder ROTFLMAO!!! Akira, that one just made my day!!!
  9. quote:Originally posted by Kenada: I used to work in a computer store... And I must say, i have seen some pretty messed up crap.. I have poeple bring computers with floppy power connectors plug in directly to the Mobo, i have agp vids come in a box when its in a pci slot... The stories and tales just get must worse. After reading that, I can't believe some people are that careless. Don't people read the installation manual anymore???
  10. Just a couple of tunes for my BCM enjoyment: Scorpions - Hurricane 2000 This tune has a nice mix of Rock and Classical music. Try it if you can. Bush - The Little Things This tune is a must if you are a Fighter pilot.
  11. Those Heatsinks are a mother to get on. A flat head screw driver comes in handy, just be careful with it. [ 11-17-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  12. My new box is currently computing with 512megs of ram, and it is pure heaven. The machines I build for other people generally come with 256megs. There is a small noticible performance difference between the two. Now my wife's machine ony has 72megs of ram, and.....well, I don't want to go there, and its bearly worth upgrading. 13. I have to agree with Charles' meaning of an OS. I mean if the internet was essential to the operation of the PC, then by rights, it shouldn't be able to boot up without an ISP connection. I mean right now, if you were to totally disconnect you PC from the web, it stays functioning, and will even reboot to operational status. The same goes for the media player. When I found out they integrated it into WinXP, I was wondering why on earth would they do that? I truly believe when .Net gets going, the next Windows integration will be MS Office. Why you ask? Simply because there really is no more reason to upgrade it, and MS knows this. I feel they will just make it part of the OS, and raise the price by $150, and then sell an add-on pack to upgrade from MS Office Standard to MS Office Pro.
  14. [rp] You claim Orion is insignificant, but yet, after two failed attempts to wipe our very existance from the galaxy, the Terran race is still going strong. You predict Orion's demise, and Prime's downfall shortly there after, but yet you fail to realize Orion has entrenched its anchor well within Alpha Centauri, and have no plans to remove it. I say come; come and attempt to extract it if you dare. Come and fight the wave of destruction that is Tsunami. Come and face the Deterrence that will not tire. Come and witness the galactic grim reaper that goes by the name of Deathbringer. Come and tango with the deep space hunter known to be, Sark. If you feel up to challenge that is Orion Fleet, just remember one thing......The Anchor Holds!!! [/rp] That bantering felt good. [ 11-09-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  15. Thanks Cmdr Cooper, will do that.
  16. Just remember, the Vesperons are not the friends you think they are.
  17. I like it!!!! Hmm, let me find my updated pic for you to add. Expect an email from me soon.
  18. ROTFLMAO!!! I was laughing so hard, I almost fell out of my chair! I wonder if people have started to hunt this guy down yet for the talk show circuit?
  19. I know what you mean, and have already started a list for my wife to get me. We were at Sam's Club on Saturday, and my wife had to have MS Zoo Tycoon. Needless to say, her PC crashed a day before, so she couldn't play until Monday night. I will probably get her the next Sims expansion pack for Christmas. The most notable title on my want list is the Half Life Platinum Pack which has 4 games in one. Now I am no big FPS fan, but I want this one. Ofcourse I have a big need for hardware to, but that is not something I trust my wife with, as I am extremely particular with brand/model#.
  20. Another good read SC. I am sorry, but ATI has it comming to them. I really think they are literally resting on their vast OEM contracts; and when they start dropping like flies, that's when things will change. By that time though, it will already be too late, and then Nvidia will acquire ATI Radeon Technology. Don't get me wrong, I am currently using an ATI card in my new machine that my 3dfx replaced in the old machine. And yes, the games I play on the new machine have graphical glitches that are not present with the V3. When 3dfx went under, I looked to ATI to step upto the plate, after all I didn't want to be paying $600 dollars for a vidcard. Then BCM beta testing moved strictly to DX8, and that was when the Radeon testers started to shin...err I mean fade. I am very much looking forward to putting a Geforce3 in my new machine; I order it December 26.
  21. lol!!! SC, that FAQ update on Radeon is a hoot!!! I am still laughing!!! The best part about it, IT'S TRUE!!!
  22. Joel, I would stay away from the PNY cards, I hear they are really not up to snuff.
