I too had problems starting out when I was a Green Commander. The first thing I did was to get out of Sol Space. Alpha Centauri was not as "busy", and I had time to learn the ropes, and hone my skills. Hope this helps. [ 05-09-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]

Microsoft goes after open source software
GREG MILLER replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in General Chatter
Heh, this doesn't suprise me, it's either Gates' way, or no way. I am considering purchasing Mandrake 8.0 and installing it on my new pc later this year. Why, so I can learn Linux, I feel it is just a matter of time. -
The Pittsburgh Police had themselves a little round up to yesterday. Oh well, such as life.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but unless you join a fleet, you ship will have an Undesignated Command Vessel (UCV) in front of its name. The only way you fly under an GCV, ECV, or ICV Designation, is that you MUST be part of that organization. Atleast that is how it has always been, maybe things have changed. I have to agree with Mike on this one. When was the last time you saw an American Carrier alone in the South China Sea? They don't call them Battle Groups for nothing you know. Just stand clear when the tide rolls in, and you should be fine.

No problem boss, I will take care of matters in your absence. Enjoy you vacations, I know I do.

AMD vs Intel : Lessons from a Paranoid Buyer
GREG MILLER replied to a topic in Science, Technology & Health
I ordered my Crucial Memory (256mb) on Friday, and it should be here by Wednesday. Actually I am going with the Tyan KTa board. I have read alot of good things about it, and the price is right. Although the Mobo/CPU I am not ordering for atleast a month yet. Ofcourse I could order it now, but then I would have to face the Wrath of my Wife. I got my box last week, it is an Antec KS188 Full Tower. When I brought it home my wife looked at it and said, "What is that???" I replied, "My new box." She replied, "Don't you think that is a little "Excessive"?" Me, "No, not at all." Now bear in mind this beauty and the beast sits over 24 inches high, and weighs over 30 pounds. Nope, not excessive at all. -
AMD vs Intel : Lessons from a Paranoid Buyer

Tac, Thank You for the MicroPC link, they have the parts I am getting for my new PC, cheaper than the vendor I found. (PC Progress) With the money I am saving here, I just might upgrade my Thunderbird from a 1ghz to a 1.13ghz, and still save money. Not a bad deal. -
Please note: I will be out of town until Sunday, and have no net access until then. If you need something, just send it to my inbin or send it to Commander Bosch. Thanks

The Compusa in Monroeville has them in stock. Just make sure you get one that has air flow holes on the bottom of it, so it will help to cool the CPU. I knew Parias was going to share his wisdom on this subject. [ 04-26-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]

Joel, I suspect that you look no further than that 235w PS. I am in the process of building a new system, and my box has a 300w PS in it. If you look at AMD's support pages for PS, you will see that a 250w is need for a basic setup running an Athlon, and 300w for anything over that. By the looks of your system specs, you are over the basic configuration. I say drop a 300w PS in and all of your instability problems will go away.

The Most Stupid Question you Have Ever Heard!!!!
GREG MILLER replied to Commander Jamont's topic in General Chatter
Ok, I know this is an old thread but I had to share this with you all. First of all even though I work in the Finance Department, people know of my great tech skills. (Some think I am a god. ) The other day, a lady on the floor was trying to download that Elf Bowling game. She asked me to help because it wouldn't work, and even told me it did the same thing at home. Basically she needed to save it to her HDD before playing. So when I sat as she did it, it asked he to save it to disk. Her response was, "It is too big for a Floppy Disk." And I agreed with her. I then suggested, "Why don't you save it to your Hard Drive?" She looks at me and says, "But that is not a disk!" I am now looking at her in a very strange way and just replied, "Yes it IS!" She continued to argue that it wasn't and I asked her Why it wasn't. Then with a confused look on her face, she couldn't answer the question. Well, after she took my suggestion everything was cool. This is one of those people that should not own a computer. -
Happy Birthday Akuma.

Yes, Alex will be missed if he cannot rejoin the Fleet. Alex, if I don't see you again, I wish you all the best. Epsilon 5, Do you have a problem with Russians??? For your continued well being within this fleet, I seriously hope not. This is not the first time I have seen you make comments about Russians on this board. IT STOPS HERE!!!! Do I make myself clear? Carry on.

PC all the way, I rather by a new VidCard or something else than have to go to a new console, and new library of games. ------------------ Commander Greg Miller GCV - Sark, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Fleet XO, Wing Leader, Tsunami Battle Group www.orionfleet.com 'Here cometh the storm!' Serves him right!!! It figures, little delinquents like this that think they rule the world, and have NO respect for authority. Yea, well if you ask me, authority showed him, who is in charge. And people on that board don't think this is right. "It was just a joke!", they say. Realistic and serious people today don't have time nor the patients for "just a joke." Trust me, appropriate action was taken. Some of todays youth really need a good swift kick in the rear. They really need to wake up and look around because life is NO joke.
