  1. Anandtech has reviewed the 3 new Titanium cards from Nvidia.I am looking at either a cheaper Geforce3 or a Geforce3 Ti200. Sweet! I wonder how much ATI paid for the advertisements on top of the review. [ 10-02-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  2. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Well, here it is : Guys, I tried BOTH the 7500 and 8500 last night. My synopsis is this : - If you like ATI's products and are willing to do what you're doing wrt dismal driver support, buy the 8500 and don't even **bother** with the 7500. - If you have an nVidia GF card, don't even THINK of switching. You can switch if you have ANY Matrox or Hercules Kyro card - without even thinking twice about it. - Yes, the drivers STILL suck and I found no less than FOUR problems with my render (not apparent in ANY other card - and I have over 9 cards here in various machines) in a space of fifteen mins after installing. I'm going to download the developer drivers later and see if they make a difference. I just couldn't be bothered to do that before, because the driver sent with the boards - SHOULD HAVE WORKED FIRST TIME OUT. And I tried this under WINME, WIN98SE, WIN2K, WINXP RC Thats a general synopsis. I'm not interested in benchmarks, I'm interested ONLY in **FUNCTIONALITY**. After awhile, the fps you get in games, reaches a critical mass where 5fps from one card to another, becomes IRRELEVANT. Even the brilliant visual clarity of both cards (on all my displays) is not enough to appease me because the drivers are STILL not good enough. Ah, the post I have been looking for, and pretty much as I suspected. NVIDA HERE I COME!!!
  3. I am sorry, but this would be a BIG blow to fleet morale. Why? Simple, I chose Orion for a reason, as it was where I wanted to serve. I passed Prime, because I thought they had enough Commanders, ISS is not where I wanted to be, and Wraith just didn't fit my liking, Insurgent or Earthcom, I was not. If I was put somewhere I didn't want to be, I'd rather stick it out as an indie. Now tell me why I would want to participate and help out, if I didn't want to be there in the first place?
  4. What has also worked for Blades, was choosing somebody deeply committed to the fleet, as his XO. I can think of nobody else in ISS that fits this profile other than Cmdr Nick Jamont. You may feel otherwise, just my $.02 worth. [ 10-01-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  5. New fourm identies ey. Cool, since I have now learned and turned from my evil CAPS Writing days, since I first registered.
  6. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: No! Get a GF3. ATI are notorious for bloody frigging awful drivers. I don't care if the f*cking card leaps out and gives me a 200fps blowjob - there's NO way I'm recommending ANY ATI card to anyone. EVAR! [ 09-27-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] Well that settles that!!!
  7. Well, the Radeon cards do look promising on paper, but if the drivers can't back up the hardware, then what good is the hardware??? I too am looking for a vidcard, and I pretty much have set my sites on a Geforce. Why, because the drivers work. I am going to wait and see what these new ATI drivers are truely capable of.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Hector Socas Navarro: $469???? For that money I can almost get a brand new Athlon system at e-bay Yah, I thought that exactly too. If they would lower their price, I bet they would sell a lot more units.
  9. The first Nforce review is up at Anandtech Just as I suppected all hype. Well I will say, for an integrated solution & Nvidia's first step into the chipset market, it is fairing quite well. [ 09-25-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  10. quote:Originally posted by Paddy Gregory: I actually have a Powerleap PLiP3 slocket in my PC, and I'm quit impresssed with it. It allowed me to stick a celeron 633 in my old 66Mhz FSB mobo. With this new thingy, won't you still be restricted by your old mobo FSB? This little gadget actually replaces your old mobo, hence the title PC on a stick. You move all your mobo connections over to this card, including the Power Supply cable. The ISA slot is only for mounting purposes. As such, all the expansion slots (ISA, PCI, AGP) on your old mobo are now disabled; and that means bye bye 3D Vidcard, as well as anything else in those slots. They claim that the integrated video is equivalent to an Nvida TnT2, and can share as much as 64megs of the main memory. If you look around the site, they are also evaluating the new Nforce chipset as a viable future solution.
  11. First off, yes, do a Format and reinstall. I am betting that is your whole problem right there. As you have gone from an Intel platform to an AMD. 41'c is not hot at all. My 1.2gig Athlon is running in the 50's and I have no problems what so ever. Also, if you are using a Via based board, make sure you have the most current Bios and 4in1 drivers installed.
  12. Look you can turn that old Pentium or 486 machine of yours into a smoking word processor!!! I actually do have a 486, and if I had the money, I would try this out and call the machine Frankenstein.
  13. Alrighty, after reading all this, I too am putting it on my list.
  14. No $ilk, it is not something you installed. Everybody has started using this new advertising technique called "Pop Unders". If you notice the page doesn't pop up over your viewing page, but pops underneath them. I too hate anything that Pops period, either up, or under. I never did mind banner ads as I rarely looked at them. Ofcourse when one did catch my eye that I was even remotely interested in, it would just disappear and never reappear again. Go figure.
  15. I have this very same calander sitting on my desk here at work, my wife gave that to me for Christmas, a couple of years ago. Last Tuesday, just as I flipped the page over, I heard somebody on the floor mention that a plane had crashed into the WTC, so instead of reading that page, I put my calander down, and went in search of news. As the days events rolled on, I never picked it back up to read it, and finally went home at 11:30am. I didn't pick the calander up again till Thursday, and when I went to flip the page, I read Tuesday's first. Yes, after reading that, I too was a little freaked out, and even called my wife and told her what I had discovered.
  16. That looks real good, I like it. Can't hear the music at work, so I will have to take another look tonight at home. Thanks Cmdr Cooper.
  17. [rp] Cmdr Cloud, I will make sure you get a safe Orion escort from Centris through Taui Ceti. I wish you God speed on your journey. [/rp]
  18. Nah, the SC is got to be Jeckle and Hyde. He always starts out nice, even offers the shirt off his back. Step out of line though, and you can kiss your ass goodbye. Although here, I consider him to be God. Me, I don't know yet. [ 08-30-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
  19. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: MG, as long as you watch your mouth you're welcome in Orion. I do put my foot in my mouth sometimes, but it happens less and less often... I'm learning... or I think I am Hmm, looks like my guidance is starting to sink in.
  20. A BCM vote here!
  21. Yes, give the man a break, one more day is not going to hurt. I bet a day off will be more beneficial to the hardworking SC than a day sooner release date.
  22. Glad everything worked out for you MerfGlurf. Yes, I too am in-line for a format and reinstall as well. I just am not going to do it until the new machine is up to snuff and right now it aint. Oh the joys of Modern Computing.
  23. At a dos prompt: Format C: Since you are using WinME, did you activiate the system restore option? If so, and you know when you started having problems, you can restore instead of format & reinstall. Like Parias said, make sure you backed up all important stuff. Also make sure you have a good working boot disk. Is your version of ME an upgrade, or the full version?
  24. My turn: Disorder Rating Paranoid: Low Schizoid: Low Schizotypal: Low Antisocial: Low Borderline: Low Histrionic: Low Narcissistic: Moderate Avoidant: Low Dependent: Low Obsessive-Compulsive: Low I now find myself scratching my head.
  25. $ilk, edit you sig accordingly. Loose the middle line, and change the last line to look like this: Recruitment Officer, Sark Battle Group That should do it, and welcome aboard the SBG. [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ]
