I purposely play first without looking in the manual, just to see what I can figure out on my own. When I get stuck, then I go through the manual. I totaled three Battlecruisers before I quit playing BC3K and started to study the manual. The best one was I made planet fall on Earth, and needed to find out how to get back to space. While I was thumbing through the manual, none of my crew carred enough to notify me I was heading for a mountain, and loosing altitude to boot. Oh well. The people that think asking a question is easier than finding it themselves in the manual are the problem. If you have the manual, use it!

LOL!!! @ Grayfox I'm back. Funny you should mention lost 'fox. I was only in Garrett County Maryland, hibernating under 40" of snow. Yesterday, I came out, saw my shadow, and decided it was time to go home.

Did any of you catch the recent reviews of the Geforce FX? Both Anandtech, and Tom's Hardware, have audio (Tom's) and Video {Anandtech) of the Dustbuster FX in action. That thing is hideously LOUD!!! My wife even had a reaction to the noise when I played the clips. What in the world posessed Nvidia to think using a dustbuster to cool a video card was a good thing??? Oh that's right, Nvidia thinks all gamers wear headphones anyway. Maybe the acquistion of 3dfx wasn't a good thing after all.

Serondal, The DVDs you speak of has already been tried before. Circuit City launched a program at the start of DVDs, and called it Divx (Not the Divx CODECS of today). They thought everyone would sign on to this because it was like renting, but you didn't have to return the disk, just toss it. Basically you bought a special Divx player from them that also connected to your phone line, and setup an account. You purchased the Divx disk, and took it home to play it. Once played, it had a 24 hour shelf life. After the 24 hours was up. You could either renew the 24 hour rental for a fee, buy the movie outright, or just toss it. Needless to say, this program died a quick and horrible death as nearly nobody signed on.

Yep, will be a TaxCut this year for me as well. TaxCut can import last years TurboTax data. Woot!!! Here is the ZDNet Article on the subject. When I found this out, I poured over the data in there support FAQ about PA. The only thing that really stood out was if you Formated your HDD, or the HDD failed, you had to purchase a new license to print your Tax Data. I went home after work and opened up a live chat with their support staff, beings it will cost you $15 to call. The lady did nothing to ease my concerns about having my 2002 Tax information held hostage by Intuit. When she figured that she wasn't making headway with me, this was her last ditch effort: "Product Activation protects the security and privacy of our customers' data." And this was my response, "Product Activation has NOTHING to do with privacy, and everything to do with Software Piracy!" Needless to say, I didn't get a response to that one. I have to say I don't really blame them for doing it, but there is no way I will allow my data to be held hostage by any company. I did notice at Sam's Club yesterday, there were a lot of unpurchased TurboTax boxes sitting on the pallet.

I'm with you there Epsilon5. God help anybody crossing the street while I'm driving by without my glasses!!!! When I first got my Drivers License, the lady behind the desk asked me to take off my glasses, look into this machine, and take the eye exam. I did, and then she told me to please take it again. I did, and then she said, "Sir, please put your glasses back on and take the eye exam again. Needless to say, I passed the third time, and now I got this little stipulation on my license that states: I must wear corrective lenses (Glasses or Contacts) at all times when I drive.

Emmett, that idle temp could be a result of your Heatsink and CPU not making a good contact. Did you buy a retail CPU with a fan, or an OEM and added the fan yourself? If it is retail, did you peel the protective tape off of the Thermal Pad before installing? If it is OEM, did you put enough thermal compound on both the Heatsink, and CPU? Take the Heatsink off and try to reseat it, that may help. My Processor idles around 30c for referrence. T-Wopr, not everybody can live with a full tower. My wife saw my full tower, and when she knew I was building her one, her first question was, "My PC is not going to be as big as yours is it?" Most full towers do not fit into the PC space on most computer desks. Although I love my full tower, I use mid towers for my customers, and never a micro tower. Mid towers do fit into these spaces. I've noticed that more and more OEMs (Dell, Gateway, Compaq, etc.) use micro towers now. I hate this things with a passion. As a rule of thumb, make sure your tower has no fewer than 4 5 1/2 drive bays. Micro towers usually only have 1 or 2 at the most.

Does it do this with all drives (HDD and Optical drives (CD DVD)), or just the Hard Drive? If what the SC said doesn't resolve it, I would RMA back that board for another one. If it is just the Hard Drive, try swapping out a spare drive if you have one and see if it still the same. Emmett, is that 60c under load or at idle? If it is at idle you got a serious problem there. Check to make sure you didn't install the Heatsink on backwords, the raised part goes over the back of the socket. If it is under load, as long as your system remains stable, it is not to much of a concern. Once it goes over 65c then be very concerned about it, as my old Athlon Thunderbird core 1200mhz would constantly crash after reaching 70c under load. My current Palamino core AthlonXP CPU runs around 55c under load and I'm not too concerned about it, as this is also a result of my case design. I instituted alot of changes in my case for better air flow. Next will be replacing all ribbion drive cables with round ones. [ 01-02-2003, 12:58 PM: Message edited by: Greg Miller ]
