According to my sources you can read this forum using idzap (search for it on Google) but you won't be able to see any of the new post status icons and you won't be able to login. You should be able to read the site though. The only way the SC can get around the filter for you is to move from HTTP to HTTPS (a secure server) as Websense can't filter encrypted connections. How long until the vice panderers realize this and move to secure hosting? Best jump off the soapbox right now.

Firstly, I want to focus on just one facet of this issue as representative of the whole. I think Blades and Silk nailed the situation on the head. The opinions/frustrations that EP5 expressed are likely held/experienced by most of us. I'm frustrated that MP isn't out yet and I'm fairly sure that Derek probably is too but I'm also Smart enough to realize that the reason it's not out is that it's not ready yet and I don't want to have to deal with a half baked option and Derek doesn't want to support a half baked option. Had EP5 expressed those opinions here, he would have got something along the lines of "Yep, we're frustrated too but we also understand the need for delay." Instead his expression of his opinions only served to reinforce the negative opinions (hatred really) of known detractors. The first is commiseration and the second is rabble rousing, intentional or not. The question really is this: Is it better for the community that EP5 be banned or is it better for the community that he be thrown in the brig, among us but under watch as it were. The first keeps the high standards we like around here but is also a great way to create another malcontent. The second is in keeping with a desire to be as tolerant as possible without thowing open the doors to trolls. Weighing both options, I vote for not banning him because that seems to best serve the community. Afterall, if keeping him around turns out to be a bad idea, such a mistake can immediately be remedied, but unbanning someone is not nearly as easy. Having had more time to think on the subject, let me add this: Political correctness is a vain attempt at being mannerly. Most of the issues surrounding PC used to be taken care of by simple social graces. When was the last time that you heard that something was not discussed because there were ladies present? Menchise, I would suggest that you have best described the problems (inherent problems) of being politically correct and that what you term as a good use of political correctness is really a call for people to return to being polite and having good manners.

Reminds me of the time some politician up in the NorthEast(?) complained about niggardly spending. The poor guy was slaughtered in his local media and nearly got the same nationally until someone had the smarts to actually look the word up. The "need" for and use of PC statements shows a lack of independent thought. While it may have been born of a desire to help everyone relize the worth of others, all it has managed to really accomplish is to further legalize and entrench discrimination against white males under 40 as Tac has pointed out so nicely. Take a read through http://www.house.gov/judiciary/77697.PDF which would allow your ISP to turn any data to any gov. agency without the need to see a warrant and without any fear that you might sue because HR 3482 also specifically prevents you from sueing. ISP's can already do that under the Patriot Act but the PA only allows such information to be given to law enforcement. HR 3482 allows that information to be given to ANY agency.

Enough. Red cards for both of you. One of you is at fault for making inflammatory comments and resorting to name calling. Both of which are weak attempts at using emotion to sway your audience. That's the worst way in the world to convince someone that you're right but it is the best way in the world to end up as flame bait at best. The other is at fault of fueling the fire. Responses to posts like those described above do nothing but fuel posts that are more vitriolic and puerile. Allowing oneself to be lead down that merry path is a grave mistake. Afterall, who is the greater fool? The fool or the fool that follows him? Both of you take a couple of days off before the red cards are extended to more than just this thread.
