Why we were taken off the Gold standard, by Alan Greenspan Jag, You're going to love that link. My guess is you have already perused it If you take that as the gospel, then I can see your vehement opposition to The Welfare State. On the positive side: It shows, that we as a nation, take care of our own. A single person who has fallen on hard times for whatever reason, can only recieve enough financial assistance to survive on. "Barely" On the negative side: There are those people in business and government who abuse it for personal gain. That abuse, in and of itself is what has created the monstrous deficits in government spending in recent times. The sooner we redress our elected officials to cease doling out millions of dollars to people who already have millions of dollars, the sooner we can get the Federal deficit back on track. "nuff said. Time for action. Congress-> And now, the real problem: We don't know which statesmen are in on the scams. I figure rough guesstimate-- about 95% of them. That's why nothing changes on Capitol Hill. Those who introduce any measure to cease the big money give away, are soon chastised by public ridicule campaigns and scandals. Even if the statesman is clean as a whistle, he/she is subject to this treatment. Extortion to the extreme by people who are well trained in subverting any opposition. ok, Note to Quartermaster: Requisition for BCMG ASAP! My old BCM reg number doesn't work anymore, so I can't get into the registration database to change anything or add my specs to my sig. As for UC, I can't even think about getting it until I upgrade my system with the muscle needed to run it. Looks like my 2 year old Dell and I are going out the airlock. It was fun while it lasted. *salute*

The military is supposedly working on tools similar to this but, one must wonder what the freaking hold up is. IMHO this makes upper command and procurement look like the bunch of country club slugs they are. Sending our people into a war zone, without every possible piece of equipment that can be provided for their protection, shows ignorance and negligence on the part of the chain of command. If a mom in Texas can procure personnel communications equipment, why the hell can't the Quartermaster? I think every swinging **** from the Commander in Cheif down to the last one star in the Pentagon should be brought up on charges for every death that could have been averted with proper equipment. They spend Billions and Billions of "our" tax dollars on super weapons that provide "Shock and Awe" With this countrys' level of technology, I consider it a CRIME to send our soldiers into harms way with only a weapon, a helmet, and the clothes on their backs. Shock and Awe is all well and good but Shot and Aww can be and SHOULD be eliminated ASAP.

DISCLAIMER: I have the greatest respect for every branch of the military, having served 6 years in the Army Reserves, aka; Uncle Sams' Boy Scouts. If we can't poke fun at ourselves. why keep breathing?

Army I, Rambo, swear to sign away 4 years of my mediocre life to the United States Army because I couldn't score high enough on the ASVAB to get into the Air Force, because I'm not tough enough for the Marines, and the Navy won't take me because I can't swim. I will wear camouflage every day and tuck my trousers in my boots because I can't figure out how to use blousing straps. I promise to wear my uniform 24 hours a day even when I have a date. I will continue to tell myself that I am a fierce killing machine because my Drill Sergeant told me I am, despite the fact that the only action I will ever see is a court-martial for sexual harassment. I acknowledge the fact that I will make E-8 in my first year of service, and vow to maintain that it is because I scored perfect on my PT test. After completion of my sexual...er...I mean Basic Training, I will attend a different Army school once every other month and return knowing less than I did when I left. On my first trip home after Basic, I will walk around like I am cool and propose to my 9th grade sweetheart. I will make my wife stay home because if I let her out she might leave me for a smarter Air Force guy or a better looking Marine. Should she leave me twelve times, I will continue to take her back. While at work, I will maintain a look of knowledge while getting absolutely nothing accomplished. I will arrive at work every day at 1000 hrs because of morning PT and leave every day at 1300 to report back to the "company." I understand that I will undergo no training whatsoever that will help me get a job upon separation, and will end up working in construction with my friends from high school. I will brag to everyone about the Army giving me $30,000 for college, but will be unable to use it because I can't pass a placement exam. So help me God. Navy I, Squid, in lieu of going to prison, swear to sign away 4 years of my life to the United States Navy because I want to hang out with Marines without actually having to BE one of them, because I thought the Air Force was too "corporate," and because I thought, "hey, I like to swim...why not?" I promise to wear clothing that went out of style in 1976 and to have my name stenciled on the butt of every pair of pants I own. I understand that I will be mistaken for the Good Humor man during the summer, and for Waffen SS during the winter. I will strive to use a different language than the rest of the English-speaking world. using words like "deck, bulkhead, cover, and head" instead of "floor, wall, hat, and toilet." I will take great pride in the fact that all Navy acronyms, rank and ensignia, and everything else for that matter, are completely different from the other services and make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I will muster (whatever that is) at 0700 hrs every morning unless I am buddy-buddy with the Chief, in which case I will show up around 0930 hours. I vow to hone my coffee cup handling skills to the point that I can stand up in a kayak being tossed around in a typhoon, and still not spill a drop. I consent to being promoted and subsequently busted at least twice per fiscal year. I realize that, once selected for Chief, I am required to submit myself to the sick, and quite possibly illegal, whims of my new-found "colleagues." So help me Neptune. Air Force I, Zoomie, swear to sign away 4 years of my useless life to the United States Air Force because I'm too smart for the Army and because the Marines frighten me. I swear to sit behind a desk and take credit for the work done by others more dedicated than me who take their job seriously. I also swear not to do any form of real exercise, but promise to defend our bike riding test as a valid form of exercise. I swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, even though I believe myself to be above that. I promise to walk around calling everyone by their first name because I know I'm not really in the military and I find it amusing to annoy the other services. I will have a better quality of life than all those around me and will at all times besure to make them aware of that fact. After completion of my "Basic Training," I will be a lean, mean, donut-eating, lazy-boy sitting, civilian-wearing-blue-clothes, chairborne Ranger. I will believe I am superior to all others and will make an effort to clean the knife before stabbing the next person in the back with it. I will do no work unless someone is watching me (and it makes me look good), I will annoy those around me, and will go home early every day. I consent to never getting promoted (EVER) and understand that all those whom I made fun of yesterday will probably outrank me tomorrow. So help me God. Marine Corps I, state your name, swear...uuhhhh... high-and-tight... cammies...uhh... ugh... Air Force women... OORAH! So help me Corps.

LOL guys, Well, you know what they say.. "You can't send a fool to University to train him out of being a fool. All you get is a trained fool, who is ten times more dangerous." I have never been one to owe my allegiance to a Presidential Candidate because of their platform or prior public service background. I tend to look a little deeper to see what sort of human being they are. To me,Kerry seems like the typical blowhard who has a huge bank account. Since he has never really put in a "hard" days work, I can't really trust him to be the friend of Joe Six Pack. John has shown us alot of different faces. I wonder if he gets a discount for large quantity orders? So, he looks at his schedule for the day and decides which faces to pack, along with the tools to change it out when needed. I bet his pit crew gets paid well. "Hey guys, when are ya gonna fix his flat?"

Wolferz replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Science, Technology & Health
It makes me a bit suspicious as to who is really writing these viruses. Virus threats to older Windows Operating Systems could persuade alot of people to upgrade their OS. No, I'm not going to start another conspiracy rant but, it does make ya wonder. -
Speaking of the United Nations That Don't Do Squat.... Kofi Annan is trying to steady the boat but I'm not sure if this is the proper movement of ballast.... HIGH LEVEL PANEL It's interesting to note the last name on this list of high level panel members is none other than Brent Scowcroft. Mr Scowcrofts' opinion on the War in Iraq can be perused **Here**

Everytime I view one of those movies, everyone in the room wonders why I'm ROTFLMAO. During M-60 training at Ft LostintheWoods, When I started firing that weapon, in a prone position, I was being pushed backwards until my feet were hanging off the edge of the wooden platform we were laying on. But I filled the open hatch of one of several APC's they had parked down range. My belt feeder said, "Whew! Glad I'm not in there!" I said, "Fudge that, just hold me down!"
-
Or Ahnold armed with 2 .60 cals. ROTFLMAO everytime I see one of those fake Super Trooper movies, especially the ones where a Super Troopie is mowing peeps down with a .60 and he has both hands on the weapon. Right hand on trigger and stock grip. Left hand wrapped firmly around the Fore grip. Nothing like the 'ol M-60 hand Barbecue, eh?

Know what? No, What? Want to stop Terrorist hijackings? Yeah! How? Simple.... Issue every passenger a small plastic pistol loaded with rubber bullets, dipped in Hogs blood. Or, some Swine filled Mace cans.

quote: Originally posted by MIKE113: I like this for now. That rifle appears to be alot more Mattie Mattel than the M-16. While it may be true that the XM-8 has fewer flaws, from the makers' description, I'm sure the weapon has it's own flaws. I haven't seen a combat rifle that didn't. As long as you know what those flaws are, they can be dealt with. In Basic training I was issued an AR-15, converted to an M-16. When I read the Manufacturer stamp on the side of it, I was surprised and a little apprehensive. The majority of weapons issued in our training Company were made by Colt. Mine was made by the Hydramatic division of General Motors. The weapon only jammed on me one time and it wasn't because of fouling. It was a faulty blank round that got stuck in the chamber. Locking the bolt and slamming the rifle butt first on a table cleared it quickly. The only serious problem I saw with the M-16 was the cleaning tools. The bore rod sections were cheap and had a tendency to splay on the female threaded end, making them prone to becoming stuck in the bore. One troopie did this and didn't tell the Armorer. The Armorer also failed in his job too, because every weapon is required to be checked when turned in. So, we're out on a live fire range and this Troopie locks and loads and fires for effect. The only effect he got was what is called "Pop-No Kick" Luckily a drill Instructor was standing right there and started screaming at this guy to ground his weapon. He was then dragged from the fox hole by his helmet and the range was cleared. It was a good thing he didn't fire a second round. Cooking off a magazine is not healthy for anyone in the general vicinity. The rifle was found to have a section of cleaning rod stuck in it along with a 5.56mm round. When the kid was cleaning the weapon and the rod got stuck, he simply unscrewed the sections that were protruding from each end and he failed to notice that he was missing a section and never checked the bore for obstructions. Neither did the Armorer. I'm, not sure but I think they both received an Article 15 and the Troopie paid for a new barrel. The M-16 Assault rifle contains numerous parts, some are rather small and easily lost. The thing is a bear to clean too. But, don't go by what the H&K guys say, All AR-15s have been converted and when it comes to the parts that count, they are all interchangeable between weapons. In the bush. Now, imagine you're on the battlefield with an XM-8 and the laser sight battery goes dead. Your Armorer is back in his bivouac tent messing about with all the pieces to this weapon and you are either in a defensive position or out on a move to contact patrol and it's going to be some time before you see the bivouac to get your weapon repaired. Laser sights can be factory zeroed to the weapon but, will it still be zeroed if switched to another in the middle of a fire fight? I'm sure Aberdeen will put that toy through the wringer before sending it out for issue. I will be following it with great interest. I would rather have one of those Space Marine Assault Rifles that were in the second ALIEN movie Or that shoulder mounted pivoting Machine gun."Death on a Stick"

Let's all be sure to give the noobs the nickel tour... "Over here is the SCs' Lucky Locker, where we keep all the booze." "Yeah, I now it says Airlock, but it's the best place to store "Whine" Many a fine whine has been cycled through there. Some folks just never learn that Low Earth Orbit is NOT where you want to be. Welcome to the boat Gents, "Grab an oar" I trust your shuttle trip was uneventful. You saw someone trailing behind the carrier on a tether? Don't mind that, it was probably the crew having some fun with Resnig. He's such a nincompoop when it comes to practical jokes, dealing with intruders and everything else.

11 Nasty Office Pranks - Funny But Could Get You Fired! 1. Go into MS Word or similar program on co-worker's computer, and add an entry to the AutoCorrect feature. This is a very simple prank that will send the novice user into a frenzy. Configure the AutoCorrect option to replace the word "the" with the phrase "you suck!" They will usually panic and start scanning for viruses. 2. Take clear tape and tape the underside of the mouse. Make sure you take the sticky end of the tape and apply it to the bottom of the mouse so it locks the ball in place. The victim will most likely check the connections in the back, reinstall drivers, reboot, etc. before they realize what has happened. 3. Another gem is to do a "Print Screen" of the user's desktop, and then paste the image from the clipboard to a photo program, and save the image as a bitmap. Then, set the 'snapshot' of their desktop as the actual desktop wallpaper. (You'll have to hide the Windows status bar, and move all their desktop icons into a folder, which you can hide conspicuously in the corner or something.) The user will see their desktop as always, but everything on it will appear to be frozen when they try to click on it...sending them into a rebooting and virus scanning fit! 4. This will mostly only work with people with very little PC knowledge. Stick a blank floppy in their A drive. They will be unable to boot up windows until the disk is out. This is fun to watch. 5. Try to find a very obnoxious CD laying around. Preferably a reggae or rap CD. Pop it in their CD ROM. Turn up the sound full blast by double clicking on the volume control on the bottom right. On normal configurations the audio CD will auto-play when windows first starts up. The person starting up their PC in the morning will definitely be embarrassed. 6. This is for that special person you just cant stand in the office, the one who talks on the phone all day with their boyfriend/girlfriend and gets personal e-mail all day. Go into their e-mail and change their defaults to automatically "blind carbon copy" their boss or supervisor. Heads will roll! 7. Change the coffee in the office coffee maker to decafe. Wait about three weeks (or until you think everybody has gotten over their caffeine addiction)and switch to espresso! 8. Try "password securing" someone's screen saver. First I suggest changing the screen saver to "scrolling marque" and inserting your own word or phrase, "Mr. Jones (president or supervisor) eats SHlT" or something to that effect. 9. Pop out the 'm' and 'n' key on someone's keyboard and reverse the two. Any flat tool will work. Just pry it with little pressure and they will easily come right off. Then just sit back and watch the confusion. 10. With someone who is on the phone a lot during work - This works if you have phones that the handset comes apart. Take the handset apart and put scotch tape over the mouthpiece inside. They can still be heard, but they have to talk loud to be heard. The next day take it off, and put it in the earpiece. Usually they will be yelling to the other person on the line the next day, and won't be able to hear them. When they complain about the phone, and get a replacement, do it on the next phone. After about a week you will notice the calls to be down considerably. And finally... 11. Depending where you are at you may have a cafeteria in you place of work. Every week most of them put out a menu so you know what they are serving. Usually it is done on Word or Excel, and not extremely fancy. With a little work, matching fonts, and images you can make your own menus, and post them by your desk. We had one co-worker avoid the cafeteria for 2 weeks because of the selection "fish head stew" etc. before he caught on. Works great with picky eaters. Have fun, but don't get caught.

Ruminations about war past or present
Wolferz replied to LostInSpace's topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
Well Boys and Girls, We can belabor every point, in regard to Nations, Armies, Politics,Wars, and the leaders/Governments who prosecute them, from now until doomsday, and I feel we are still missing the entire point of why all this has been and continues to occur. That one single point, the one uttermost common denominator is Resources Either resources to catapult a nation into an empire. Or resources to catapult a mans' bank account into super millionaire status. The constant battle for resources has only promoted greed, Avarice, Espionage, and murder. In our country today the goal is Money. Why? "Money=power It's a pity that those who have gathered fortunes forgot, or ignored, an old adage; "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" What is really sad is, most of the fortunes that these people weild were gathered from causing war and misery on other Humans. We arrogantly consider ourselves to be on the top rung of the ecological ladder. compared to every other animal on the planet, we are at the bottom. Animals commit savagery on other animals to survive. Taking only what they need. But men however, start wars to insure future survival by hoarding resources. We're just a bunch of Squirrels. -

Muchos Gracias, Merci, Thank you and all that. I know this may be a little late but, Any Treatise written regarding the Vietnam conflict would be sorely incomplete if it didn't include the pre-history leading up to US involvement. I would be most interested in reading your report before you turn it in. The difficulties of prosecuting a military action in a country where friend or foe was almost impossible to discern was grossly overlooked. I have heard hair raising stories of some of the nasty little tricks the NVA and their supporters liked to pull, Like riding a bicycle alongside a busload of troops who had just arrived and tossing a grenade through an open window. The military sought to prevent this by installing chicken wire over the windows. All the better for the enemy who countered this by installing hooks on the grenades. The chicken wire only created extra shrapnel. Then there was the Viet Cong, who loved setting booby traps. It's Strictly against the Geneva Convention to utilize such tactics. But is war ever conventional? Our troops reciprocated, although we won't say anything about that

Wow! Alot of interesting Point, Counter-point, going on up there. /brushes off the dust... At least now we all know how you feel. Three Questions... 1. Why do you feel the way you do? 2.What makes you cling, like a rabid dog, to your arguement and overall view? 3. How do you feel about ignorance and apathy? edit:Ooops almost forgot THE most important question for every citizen on this planet.. 4.What are you afraid of? I'm wagering 90% probability of the answer to number three being.... "Well by golly, don't know and don't care. 42. -
Man of the House.......? A husband had just finished reading a book titled, "Man of the House." He stormed into the house and walked right up to his wife. Pointing a finger in her face, he said, "From now on, I want you to know that I am the man of this house, and my word is law! I want you to prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I'm finished eating my meal, I expect a sumptuous dessert afterward. Then, after dinner, you're going to draw me a bath so I can relax. And, when I'm finished with my bath, guess who's going to dress me and comb my hair?" "The funeral director," his wife said flatly.
