Wow! I just bought a case of Canadian beer brewed in Quebec. La Fin De Monde, Don De Dieu, and Maudite. It was a variety pack with those three and another I cant remember. They are brewwed by Unibroue, whose motto is " Drink Less, Drink Better' Each brew was 9% alcohol as opposed to the 5 or 6% of American beers. They were triple fermented and had sediment on the bottom, and really reminded me of some of the mid line Belgian beers. Really great stuff but at 40.00$ a case a rare treat that will have you on your ass if you dont watch it. If anybody else has tried these give me a holler.

Was he under fire? did he not recive the medals in question? Would we even be having this discussion if his and Bush's position were switched? He is the second Viet Nam vet to run against old stay at home George to get lambasted for serving thier country. If you have an issue with medal inflation take it up with the DOD, but stop minimizing that man's contribution. It makes you all look stupid and petty and I know you guys are niether. Kerry wasnt a Sgt York or Audie Murphy, but he didnt hide at home playing soldier either.

I would but I cant find anything to disagree with. I was a John Edwards supporter because he at least tried to discuss issues and inject optimism into the campaign. I've brought this point up before, we have a leadership vacuum. Our society seems incapable of inducing the women and men who DO have the capacity to lead to put up with the circus national politics have become. Elections are bought and sold to the highest bidder and the feeding frenzy of the 24 hour news beast dissuades any sensible person for running for office. A few thoughts: It is too hard to vote in this country. More people would vote if everyone over 18 with a valid drivers liscence could use that to vote in any election. Each candidate should have an identical spending cap for campagning and political ads should be free. We need a REAL independent political party. A legitimate third party made up of people who feel no allegiance to the Dems or GOP. If we can keep the money in our bank accounts relatively safe, why cant we figure a way for Americans to vote electronically at home or the polling place? Schools and Universities need to make leadership training mandatory. We are raising a country of consumeristic clones unwilling or unable to think or act for themselves. Most beleive anything if said loudly and long enough. Lastly opposition research should be outlawed unless it deals with political and or business history. Is it really important to know that Clinton inhaled and Bush was a drunk driver in thier impetuous youth? Anyone who has made such mistakes and were able to turn it around is stronger for it but most with any skelton in thier closet shy away from running for public office. We can do better.

Personally, I feel that marriage is a sacrement of the church between a man and a woman. However I am not against civil unions that allow parners who have pledged themselves to eachother to be legally recognized with the benefits that entails. However I am toally against a contitutional ammendment and can only guess as to what the motivation for such an action would be. With all that is going on in this world does our President really need to be talking about gay marriage and steroid abuse?

The pro-lfe movement makes no such exception. If you do then in effect you are pro-choice. As for the rest of your points they are very well written however I no longer see the point in continuing a debate in which the other party refuses to see the other side of the story. I aslso do not see the point in my validating my perceptions regarding the GOP's stance on relation. If I did, youwouldnt accept it anyway. If you truly beleive that the GOP is the standard bearer of human rights, race relations and gender equality you are either a fool or naive. I choose to beleive the latter> The republicans are always trying to take credit for the black middle class after plunging more black families into poverty than any adminsitration in modern history. Lastly please stop trying to hold up Eisenhower and Lincoln as examples for modern Republican thought. That just doesnt wash. Liberal became a dirty word when it became clear they would try to speak for those who couldnt speak for themselves. Conservatives feel comfortable demonizing people who lack voice and dont vote They play upon the fears of Americans and give them a face, (normally one that doesnt look like them) to focus thier fear and hatred upon. The Republicans have moved beyond the message of choose us we are better to destroy the Democrats. They would have people believe that anyone who disagrees with them is evil and should not be allowed to live in this country. As far as our different beliefs let me discuss just one. I am pro-choice. However, I am against abortion as a form of birth control. i oppose late term abortion. I am against abortion because was raised Catholic. As a teen ager I made the mistake of binging a life into this world without the sacrement of marriage. I was forced to make the choce (at age 19) between an abortion and being a young parent.I had to convince my girlfriend to have the child. I quit college and joined the USAF. For me it wasnt a hard decision. However I feel there are some situations where abortion is the best choice. Rape, Incest, threat of death to the mother. Did you know that a rapist in this country has parental rights if his victim gets preganant? There is legal precedant that supports this situation. While those are the only situations that I would even CONSIDER, abortion, I am called a baby killer. That is the lack of diverse thought I referred to. Unfortunately we live in a world of grays, there are very few issues that are black and white (no pun intended). as far as differnce on the so called " planks" of the Democratic party, many of us do not agree with all those positions, just as 'm sure ALL Repbulicans dont agree with the entire GOP platform. Our tent is bigger than yours is.

I never said I was moderate, and the differences regarding, the GOP of today and the past are it's inability to accept anything but lock step support of some rather extreme policies. There appears to be no room or any diverse thought in the GOP. Is it any wonder that the Republicans made great strides in the 80's under the leadership of people like Gingrich and Buchannon whose rhetoric was devisive and uncomprimising. When it became okay to demonize the opposition, when the word liberal became a dirty word, when it became okay to play on some people worse fears, the GOP emerged. It is no suprise that the likes of David Duke felt comfortable under the banner of the GOP. Your party supports demonizing and belittling the opposition party rather than any intelligent discourse, it literally drips with hate. These beliefs havemade any bipartisan cooperation almost impossible. As far as Christian principles goes, we have then too. Some of us are quite uncomfortable with the Democratic party's stance or lack of a stance on values moral and character. But some Republicans have some very unChristian ideas. I remember clearly when Gov. Bob Riley a staunch conservative Republican stated that the current tax code in Alabama was unfair and unChristian. He said that it is the Christians duty to take care of the "least of us". Who were the first people to call for separation of church and state? THE REPUBLICANS! They basically said render unto Cesear and stay out of my pocket book.They basically said lets keep the Bible separate from the tax code, cause it was covenient, and because a lot of people in the GOP look at poor people as undesireable and unworthy. That they are lazy and stupid and that is why they are poor, and don't deserve any compassion and certainly not a tax break. what a bunch of hypocrites!

Do you really think MLK if alive today would be a Republican, The republican party of today is much different than the one that existed then. And please spare me the "we know whats better for you than you" crap. With all due respect you dont know what the hell your'e talking about. If anyone is being devisive in this country its the Republicans. Remember Willie Horton? I don't think GOP leadership is made up of racist but they do very little to distance themselves from people of that ilk. Do you yourself still think the key facets you refer to still apply to todaysGOP? If so why are so many African Americans of the same mind regarding the GOP's motives?

Very well put. I agree but am forced to choose the lesser of two evils. As to Stev's point regarding blacks and thier politics, anecdotally as a member of a middle class black family, I see very little inroads being made by the Republican party. My friends and associates who are in the same socio-economic class display a distrust of the GOP due to the strong influence of the right wing. I do think you make valid points regarding change, I just see it as changes in the Democrats that will (hopefully) lead the party to embracing the economic prudence of the GOP and and emphasizing tradtional family values and social justice.
