I stopped eating traditional fast food after reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. It is a modern day version of the Jungle by Upton Sinclair. I went from eating Wendy's and Burger King to an occasional chicken burritto from Baja Fresh. VERY occasional. I also searted doing most of our shopping at Whole Paycheck..I mean Whole Foods. BTW hey Tac where can I get me some Aji-mirin? every since my buddy Shinji moved back home i've been missing it! That and the dried squid snacks..I know to those who nver ate them they sound nasty but trust me they are tasty.

Cinescape magazine has announced that USA has ordered 13 episodes of the 4400 which begins shooting this month in Vancouver. With the 4400, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Atlantis genre tv seems to be in good shape.

I just finished watching what must be the last episode of Jeremiah and I must say I am pissed at Showtime. They continue to develop great premises for sci-fi shows and then abandon them.I will never commit to following any Showtime series as it seems they show no commitment to developing the show and sticking with it.Just look at the Showtime cast off list, Outer Limits, Stargate SG-1, Jeremiah, Odyseey5. Showtime fancies itself a competitor of HBO but... not so much. Jeremiah and O5 deserved a better send off and I think both are at least as good as anything Sci-fi has produced or adopted(ie the wretched Andromeda)Showtime didnt even promo the return of either show and if not for blind luck I would have never found them. Dead Like me is a good show but I refuse to watch it regularly cause who knows how it will end up? Yea its doing good now, but the bozos at Showtime could lose thier minds at any time. Other than Red Shoe Diaries, that zenith of TV achivement, Showtime shows little commitment and even less respect for the viewer. BTW I loved the character Sims with his backwoods accent and murdering ways. I would have liked to see them stretch that storyline out a bit longer, but thats Showtime for you.

I thought the comic he was reading was an old Justice Society of America comic, you know the vintage JLA that was done in the 40's? I also know that there will be a logical non sci-fi explanation of the oddities we see each week. And lastly who says it is an island? Oh and Derek quit about the transceiver, the thing I focused on was how weird and unsettling the voice was..very creepy. One thing; I THINK i FIGURED OUT IS THAT THIS PLACE IS A MAGNET FOR PLANE CRASHES AND SHIPWRECKS! They will find multiple wrecks going back years. Man I love this show.

Overall impressions on the first season?

Event Frickin Horizon!!!! come on Scrive... I know you love Donnie Darko but it is not a five star movie. Five stars are perfection. You have created a list that doesnt have one Hitchcock movie on it, no non animated Japanese cinema( Black Rain is a notable exclusion and no not the horendous M. Douglas film..the 1950's chronicling of the aftermath of Hiroshima..just a great but disturbing film.) I'll add a few I like Psycho- No one who saw that one is ever 100% secure in a strange shower. Touch of Evil- Orson Welles film Noir classic Paths of Glory- Kirk Douglas anti war polemic To Kill a Mockinbird- Pitch perfect from start to finish. Pulp Fiction- Reviitalized American Film The Deer Hunter-Growing up around that time& living in western PA, it really hit me. Unforgiven-Quintisential post modern western.S Seven Samaurai-Skip the hokie Peckinpah remake, see this one. Bamboozled- The most frank and dangerous film about race ever made. Network-Paddy we really miss you. The best western ever..? I dont know but I think The Outlaw Josey Welles is the most underated one of all time. Spartacus-instead of the overrated Ben-Hur. I'll take Kirk Douglass, Peter Ustinov and Larry Olivier over Heston and Steven Whats his name anyday. Menace II Society- Boyz in the Hood got the credit, but Menace portrayed the post-Reagan era in American inner cities more realistically and more nihilistically. I watched this when it opened in a nearly all white audience and when it was over complete silence for about 30 seconds..astoundingly powerful and tragic film.

And...? Really it's the only issue they stand a chance with , what are they going to focus on the robust economy? The state of the educational system, crime, healthcare?

However I take offense of your name calling and think that as a moderator you have a responsibility to be a role model, one which in this case you ignored. It is SO tiresome to have to read in here daily one's personal beleifs ridiculed, marginalized and spoken about with such contempt. I find it difficult to beleive someone of your intelligence can have so little respect for the beliefs of others. You are a better man than that, and that idiot remark is beneath you.

I just love the smell of desparation in the morning! You guys will do anything to prop that idiot up in the white house another four years. I for one hope you get your wish, then you'll have no one else to blame when the shit hits the fan. Never mind that two of the swift boat vets campaigned for Kerry in his last re-election bid, never mind the fact that the MoveOn ad's are not significantly different from what the DNC and Kerry campaign's ads are in form and content, never mind that Bush on one hand calls Kerry's service "admirable" and the other hand lets slips the dogs of war to do his dirty work. Ignore all that and focus on framing yourselves and your party as morally superior,while dividing this country in a time it needs to be united the most. Nothing new knocks my socks off, so I have dusted off some old Police cuts after hearing " Voices Inside my Head" Pretty tasty.

This was excellent and fortunately is a series that should return next season. The final ep was called the season finale which indicates its eventual return. What sets this apart from other genre shows is the focus on the back story. We get to see the effect of the passage of time while the 4400 were missing. We see how people moved on or were fixated on thier loved one and ultimately the disconnectedness each of the 4400 experiences. It reminds me in some ways of Odyseey 5 the series that was cancelled by Showtime, in that we see how how events beyond thier control affected them on a human level, focusing less on the sci-fi bells and whistles. Between this and TNT's the Grid, we got two interesting limited series to watch in an otherwise dry summer

I loved this film, despite a generally percieved weak ending. Mann is at his best making the setting of a movie a main character. I have never seen LA portrayed the way it was in this film. The camera work was nothing short of brilliant. I wish Mann was more prolific as we have only seen Ali, Heat and Collateral in the last 10 years. Anyone who loved Heat, should check out LA Shakedown, the TV movie Mann did that was the original version of Heat. It is interesting to see how he dealt with the limitations of the medium
