My wife and daughter(aka The Evil One)went to a reggae festival last week allowing me to watch my father's day gift(40inMagnovox w "Incredible Surround sound") and program my new touch screen remote(it totally kicks a**) as well as catch up on some seroius vegatation. Here's some random thoughts I want to share. 1. The Big Three networks pretty much suck. After watching Big Brother I quickly found a bible to check if BB3 is one of the signs of the Apocolypse. What a piece of excrement. I then checked TiVo to view reruns of NYPD Blue only to find another wonderful "reality" in it's place. Lucky me. Please no more reality shows..reality is boring that's why we watch friggin tv. 2. Thank God for HBO and Showtime. Apparently sitcoms and one hour dramas , which used to be a network staple are best viewed on pay channels. Six Feet Under , Sex in the City, Street Time and the promising Odysee 5 have taken up much of my viewing time. Meanwhile the networks give us "She Spys". Actually "She Sucks" 3. Welcome Back Aeryn Sun! All I can say is it's about time. The new storylines and new charac- ters and Scorpious presence on Maya insures that Farscape remains the best sci-fi show on the planet. 4. Odysee 5 , pretty cool... Saw the previews and was not impressed. Watched the premier and well..it didn't suck. Last weeks episode about the little girl who could contro genetically altered ants was very,very good ina scary x-files kinda way. This show gets better every week unlike the dull and disappointing Jeremiah(although the season finale two parter was a big improvement) The five main characters and the way they deal with reliving thier lives drives this show forward as well as the overall premise of saving the world. Oh yeah and the British guy is real cool too. 5. Baseball sucks a**. Nuff said 6. The Shield is the most daring , engaging and best show not on pay tv. If you haven't seen it do so asap. 7. Shows that need to just let go and fold up shop. a. NYPD blue. Too many cast defections. b. Fraser. What next ? Martin Crane and Marist? c. ER. For all that's holy who's left to kill off. d. Any new show made by David E Kelley. e. Any new show that's a spinoff from a hit show. What's next? Law and Order:SMC (small claims court) 8. Shows that deserve more credit a. Scrubs. watch it and you'll see why. b. Malcolm in the Middle. Pure Genius c. Smallville. Lana is hot,hot hot. d. The Guardian. Another talented aussie actor e. The Best Damn Sports Show Period. True. f. The Dead Zone. Great adaptation crisp writing. 9. Overrated Will and Grace. They are only the second funniest couple on the show. Everybody loves Ray. It's no Seinfeld Alias. How much hot chick running to techno can we stand? okay maybe a little bit more. The Practice. Will someone get Laura Flynn Boyle a burger? She so skinny if she gets injured on the set they can fax her to the hospital. Jay Leno. Not funny , just not funny. 8. Underated Conan O'Brien. The funniest guy on TV. Soback that may be the most insensitive thing I've heard today. What do you have against Canada? And for your information if you drink alcohol or smoke ciggarettes , you are a drug user. If you have a ciggarette habit you are a drug addict. You continue to use a dangerous drug that will eventually kill you , proof of your chemical dependency. It makes many people comfortable to refer to users of illegal drugs as "druggies" and "junkies" when as I stated earlier alcohol and tobbaco are the deadliest drugs on the market. Lastly, drug addiction is a public health problem. I think your'e wrong about this one Enigma. The cost of growing and harvesting marijuana is not why the price is so high. The price is high due to it's illegality. Growers ,traffickers and dealers charge high costs because of the risk they take in selling it. Just like in liqour stores weed would be sold in all quantities and varying degrees of quality. If you wanted the weed equivalent of a pint of Ripple some one would sell it to you. If weed were legalized tomorrow the price drop would be significant. It doesn't cost that much more to grow weed than say potatoes

I hope someone is taking notes out there. What Herbie said regarding Bush are pretty much on the mark. I hope we are keeping track of the personal rights we are giving up in the war on terrorism. As more info comes out about Bush and Cheney's previous business dealings things certainly start to become more clear. US Army Sec White , a former Enron exec. Made 62 million dollars his last year with the company (12 million in stock he dumped after his appointment) the division he worked in played a large part in the California energy crisis ,where purportedly company memos were distributed on how they could milk more omney from residents in the state by creating artificial situations to "inhance revenue" Anyone who questions these business practices(currently being investigated in Calif) is branded by the right as being against the "war on terrorism" There is apparently no room for dissent and "good americans" should trust that our leaders are doing the right thing. yea right. So I hope americans are comfortable with the idea that someone actually has to die so they can drive a gas sucking SUV to soccer practice , and that our current enemies are our former friends and whatever "pro usa" regime we replace them with will likely be using the weapons we gave them on our grandchildren some day. Saddam is a nothing , a nobody he's this years version of Manuel Noriega (another former Bush crony) do you feel any safer that he's out of circulation? Let's stop playing military wack-a mole with these guys and solve our own problems. Ten minutes after Sadaam is a greasy spot on the ground some other "Satan" will be created to further perpetuate the Global shell and pea game the rich has been fooling us with for years

Interesting topic but very complex. In my profession you clearly see how pro and con positions have both risk and benefit. Alcohol and tobacco are both legal and kill more americans than every other drug combined. They are the legal drugs of the ruling class and as such viewed as acceptable(though tobacco is losing ground in that regard)Most major tobacco companies patented and copyrighted product names for marijuana in the late 70's since they feel that legalizationis a question of when not if. Prescription drugs are widely abused and comprise a sizeable segment of the treatment population , particularly when used in conjunction with alcohol. The pros of legalization would be an almost immediate drop of the criminal element involved with sales.Billions of dollars spent on interdiction could be shifted to more important programs as well as tax cuts for the working class. Sin taxes on consumption could help fund Social security and public education One look at teen alcohol and tobacco use is all we need to flesh out the cons.Also the commercialization and mass production involved with marketing the products would be a potential problem. Imagine weed being marketed like Mike's Hard Lemonade or Smirnoff Ice. The worst con is the 15-20% of the population with a biological predisposition to addictive behavior who would now have fewer barriers to feeding thier addiction. The result would be more people in treatment, more loss for the businesses that employ these folks through increased medical care and lost work hours (sick time). Given those factors I guess the decision should be made on what set of problems we are most comfortable with. A criminal justice system bursting at the seams,drug related murders and robberies,billions spent on interdiction or skyrocketing medical and human services costs for all the new addicts Madison ave will help to create. Unfortunately either way I'll never be out of a job

Lothar you are soooo right.Even though this thread is a little off topic it raises a valid point. Worse , prisons are now a growth industry. For profit prisons are a reality and in many states more prisons are built than schools. In Pennsylvania where I reside, small cash strapped counties are building large modern facillities that accept prisoners from all over the state ,particularly Philly and Pittsburgh. Full prisons mean tax dollars for these municipalities. There is no political gain for changing this as local state and national legisaltors benefit from high population counts in their districts since they are counted by the census as residents and this aids them in apportionment. The problem is american businesses don't allot enough vacation time. My understanding is in Europe employees have as much as six weeks paid vacation. While I was stationed in Greece in the USAF I met, fell in love(lust),broke up with and fell back in love with a girl from London all during her vacation. By contrast I've been at my company for 10 years and get 15 days paid vacation. That breeds the kind of attitude that makes people creative with their sick time. Since I see patients in my office by appointment only,itis difficult for me to call off without letting my patients know days in advance. SC, I am as usual impressed with your keen insight and erudite commentary and flattered that you responded. Let me make it clear I do not intend this as a start of a long exchange like some of the other threads in this forum. However I wanted to clear a few things up. First I did not mean to infer money changed hands. What I meant that money affords you better representation and that because his family has money he is percieved differently. I think as unlikely as it may seem, some people see him as more sympathetic as if he is a victim. Secondly in his statement in front of the judge he admitted to being in combat and bearing a weapon against his own countrymen. There is precedent for harsher sentences being carried out on civilians. Lastly I think it sends a mixed message to our so called allies. One that is devisive and not at all the image we seem to be trying to project. However I will admit to a certain degree of anger that might make me less than objective. I hope the information we got is worth the anguish felt by the parents of those we lost in battle.

I am completely outraged that a traitor to his country can get off so easily. While twenty years is a long sentence I feel it is doubtful he will serve the duration. Overseas the killers of Daniel Pearl were found guilty and will be hanged. We ask that our allies be with us or against us , a thinly veiled threat and then we make bargains with traitors. Does anybody think Moussani the 20th highjacker will be offered such a sweetheart deal? Not a chance! While race is not the issue in this case many will look at the outcome and assume it was.Another rich white man bought himself out of trouble. This is war and Lindh carried weapons and in all likelihood fired upon his own countryman. In wartime acts of treachery and cowardice are dealt with one way...unless apparently if you have rich parents. You don't have to wait for Nick I'll say it ..We SHOULD all disarm. If we haven't learned anything from the dissolution of the USSR we should know that when these totalatarian states fold (and fold they will) where are all those toys and the bright guys who made them going to end up? Any guesses? That is reason enough. However , and it's a big however, the option of total disarmament is no longer open to us. As much as I hate to admit it we need a nuclear deterrent because the technology to build these weapons is out there and cannot be "taken back" Anyone who thinks that the Chinese nuclear build up is directly linked to the ours is clearly misinformed. Our nuclear arsenal while more effective is smaller than ever. I beleive that like the USSR China will collapse and it won't be because of an arms race it will be because the allure of freedom and free markets will win out just as it did in Russia. You can only subvert peoples human rights for so long before they say "enough". Until then we must remain vigilant

Ok here's how it works. We pick a day , a city and hotel ask vollunteers to do the various tasks and collect money from all willing participants. We make sure to pick a site that can handle all the Laptops and desktops and ethernet gear that we would need for all of us to do our things. Apparently it's happened again , this time in Arizona(?) Just saw the tape and at least this time the guy was over sixteen. Apparently he is an alleged dope dealer who was trying to swallow his package. I'm aware of a lot techniques to prevent that from occuring but none of them include a nightstick across the chest. I have no love for dealers as in my line of work I have to deal with people who they make their living off , but they are making it too hard for the Majority of cops who risk their lives daily, by focusing on these mentally defective few who screw it up for the rest of us.

If Warcrap III can charge 75 bucks for the game and a coffee table book , I see no reason the SC shouldn't get a least 90 bucks. However an autographed copy of Smartey Man should be included along with an 8x10 glossy of the SC making a bank deposit with a big ole Sh*t eatin grin. Aside from MW4 Black Knight , I don't have time for anything but BCM and the occasional episode of Calliou with my daughter,the Evil One.

I hope they don't screw this up like the first Marvel / DC crossover Superman vs Spiderman. Lex Luther gave Spiderman Kryptonian powers so he really wasn't even Spiderman. I'd much prefer some of the old Hulk vs Thing matches made popular back when comics were 12 cents. Can't they come up witha more original premise? The fanboys would probably much prefer Daredevil vs Batman. Or what about Jet li as Shang Chi master of Kung Fu vs. Ray Park as Iron Fist? How bout Hellboy vs The Ghost Rider?
