Question about... disabled crafts
Supreme Cmdr replied to kschang's topic in Universal Combat Series
quote: Originally posted by Kasey Chang: So my question is... what is the definition of "disabled"? Clearly that defintion doesn't include "engines"... Or was that not quite intended? Disabled depends on several factors which affect the overall integrity value (number at the top of the TTD) of the object. You probably didn't notice that while you were pissing around, it fixed its engines first and took off. That happens. Different NPCs have priorities for systems to repair during a disabled condition. Some repair their weapons first and then wait for you to come get them. Rule of thumb, if its not emitting an SOS, then its not completely disabled. -
quote: Originally posted by Dambreville: It would be a nice feature if the PTA system took care of them I think... No it won't. quote: They used to flicker until I got fairly close to IO, but dropping the accel two notches and setting -w2 in the target seems to have solved this.Wrong. The flickering is caused either by a video card driver or you have a slow computer. When several planets are being mapped, depending on your view, the system has to swap some textures out of memory in order to properly map the closest one. If you have a slow computer or low video memory, you will see this flickering. And running in a window is not supported. The only reason you don't notice the flickering too much, is because in window a smaller area is rendered. If you even know what problems you are going to run into by running the game in a window, you'll soon find out WHY it is unsupported. Just don't even THINK of posting about those problems.

In the case of the Disk wiping; the computer won't read the disk automatically when I start the computer so I can't. I know this is my computer but if you can help please do. If it gets deleted again I won't harrass you again. Thanks Your computer freezing during uninstall has nothing to do with the game. The installer uses Windows Installer which works from Add Remove Programs. If that fails, then you have serious problems on your computer. quote: Originally posted by Kasey Chang: It's one of those integrated video cards that takes as much memory as needed. It *should* meet the specs. The game needs a 16MB video card. It says so quite clearly on the box and on the product info page. On board video cards don't allocate that much memory on a whim. Also, if you looked at his profile, he has the desktop bitdepth set to 16bit. Which indicates to me that the video card doesn't have enough memory to run at 32bit. Quite clearly, his computer does not meet the specifications required for the game.

Thanks for posting that in the wrong forum. Anyway, requesting a tow works fine and Gallion also tried it without a problem.

I'm confused too. quote: Originally posted by Phreddo: Yet, when I see Derek Smart, Designer, Lead Developer and President asking me to justify my bug, followed by "That way we can determine if there truly is a bug (which honestly there probably is not) or if we need to shoot you. (i.e. you have bad drivers, exc.)," I start to think twice about a criticism that may not be worded correctly. Imagine telling Emeril that he should use more oregano, or telling Jim Morrison not to say "higher." Totally different concepts there. If there is a bug, then it needs to be researched and if it exists, fixed. You posted twice about the same thing and now you're saying its not a bug and blah, blah, blah. See? This is the sort of waste of time I was talking about. We take this stuff SERIOUSLY around here you know. Thats why we have forums for every topic type.

Question about... alternative terms in the game
Supreme Cmdr replied to kschang's topic in Universal Combat Series
quote: Originally posted by Spindoktor: SC, I noticed one other inconsistency. Fighter craft are abbreviated FC predominantly. In Perscan, under the "assignment" column, if system engineers are repairing FCs, Perscan will refer to them as ICs. Yeah, I took care of that one already. As for Perscan because of the resolution and the number columns, the text had to be shortened or it will overflow at low resolutions. Nothing I can do about it. As for the menus, thats how they were done. The only reason why there is a number after the SC/FC/OC is because of how the code enumerates them. Not gonna change it. -
quote: Originally posted by Phreddo: I deleted my posts because all the pertinent information had been reposted, and anything else was simply causing waves. It is tricky to discuss bugs when the developer is the tech support. Without proper channels to filter, process and disseminate the information (bug report submission form, customer service), I'm a little leery to say anything that could be perceived as critical. In the time it took you to type up that, you could've actually read what Bandus and I wrote. Apart from that, why do you think there are tech support forums here? And who do you think created those messages there? Further, what do you think the tech support email address email in the manual is for? Its simple, you can't just post about a problem anywhere you like on the forum and without following instructions on the proper submission of problems. Far too many times people just post all manner of rubbish and then we waste time on it, only to find out nonsense akin to someone forgetting to plug in their mouse. Even in the tech support forum (I'm not sure what you thought that forum was for), there are examples of people jumping up and down about something being a bug. And then we found out that it was in fact false and just a problem on their end. I asked if you wanted to keep posting here or not because people who don't follow the rules around here, shouldn't be here. There are two options for reporting bugs. Use the tech support forum Use the tech support email address You chose neither. But instead, chose to waste time arguing about something as simple as this because you expect someone to spoon feed you or something.

Phreddo, wait-a-minute, instead of creating a bug report and proving that what you posted was in fact a bug, you went and deleted the post?!? OK. I'll be back.

It also looks like the original list has been added to and adapted to suit different aircraft organizations I suppose. A friend sent me the list I posted - and it mentions Qantas. And the link you posted above (with a smaller list), indicates the USAF. Thats the Net for you I suppose.

The one that got away... catch and release story

quote: Originally posted by Marvin: quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Kasey Chang: Uh, SC... There's NO WAY that's from Quantas, since civilian airliner don't have "target radar". You're thinking target in terms of a combat radar. Thats not the term is used in civilian aircraft with a radar system. Any return on a radar screen can be designated a "target" but a target(ing) radar would more likely be one that takes target data (velocity, closure, and heading) and feeds it to a weapons system computer. Correct. Which is what I said earlier that he's thinking in terms of combat target, which is not how the word target is used in civilian aircraft.

quote: Originally posted by Phreddo: Well, you asked if I could reproduce it. I did. I pressed CTRL-T to request a tow. They asked if I still needed a tow. I pressed 'Y' I found myself at the station logon screen. The first time, it just crashed to desktop, no fuss no muss. The second time, i got past the initial login, then it crashed again. Obviously you chose to ignore what Bandus and I posted. Do you want to keep posting on this site or not?

Not surprisingly, the Winnie left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mr.Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising him in the handbook that he couldn't actually do this. He was awarded $1,750,000 plus a new Winnie. (Winnebago actually changed their handbooks because of this court case, just in case there are any other complete morons buying their vehicles.

LMAO!! quote: After every flight, Quantas Airlines pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor. Here are some supposedly actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution as recorded by Quantas maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident. (P = The problem logged by the pilot.) (S = The solution and action taken by the engineers.) P: Left inside main tyre almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tyre. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft. P: Something loose in cockpit. S: Something tightened in cockpit. P: Dead bugs on windshield. S: Live bugs on back-order. P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent. S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground. P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. S: Evidence removed. P: DME volume unbelievably loud. S: DME volume set to more believable level. P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick. S: That's what they're there for. P: IFF inoperative. S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode. P: Suspected crack in windshield. S: Suspect you're right. P: Number 3 engine missing. S: Engine found on right wing after brief search. P: Aircraft handles funny. S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious. P: Target radar hums. S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics. P: Mouse in cockpit. S: Cat installed. P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer. S: Took hammer away from midget.

Question about the V1.01.00 VCF... Typo?

I revised the version numbering scheme after releasing the patch. The new version numbering scheme is reflected in the online VCF. Since new patches replace all previous ones, there won't be any confusion when the next BCMG patch is released because the current one will no longer be available. BCM and BCMG are completely separate. Hence the reason they each have their own download pages.

OK, this is the kinda stuff that, oh I dunno, Tac maybe would post. But this is just ridiculous.

The AE has access to some of the ship's systems via his...aw screw it, read the damn manual. But if you are saying that in fp mode when you do CTRL+T (you don't have to be damaged to request a tow) you get a crash when you get to the station, thats a bug. So, is this the case or not and can you reproduce it?
