  1. I would be interested in seeing a game that fails to load. If anybody has such a game, please let me know first here by describing the problem and I will determine if I need it or not.

The topic is mispelled/grammatical error: This was an easy one. It is caused by an AI tick which occurs during personnel check. In this case, it seemed to be related to intruders who happened to have boarded your ship . Since this is serious, I have released 1.0.05 SP1 patch which fixes it. You can download it and just replace your bcm.exe. You should be able to resume your game. I suggest that all of you download this interim patch until the 1.0.06 final is out (hopefully this weekend). SpiderMan, this won't solve your problem with drone 4, so if you still have that profile, just leave that drone alone. I have yet to reproduce that problem, so I can't say for sure whats causing it.
  3. Picasso sent this via the internal mailing list. Hilarious stuff. =================== Next time you have a bad day at work...think of this guy. Rob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana. He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an e-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to Laugh-line, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won. quote: Hi Sue, Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all. Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job. As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wet suit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this: We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000!!! piece of shit sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a delightful temperature. It then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose, which is taped to the air hose. Now this sounds like a damn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints. What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is I take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wet suit. This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working in a Jacuzzi. Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my ass started to itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse. Within a few seconds my ass started to burn. I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit. Now since I don't have any hair on my back, the jellyfish couldn't stick to it. However, the crack of my ass was not as fortunate. When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into my ass. I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that, along with 5 other divers, were all laughing hysterically. Needless to say I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make 3 agonizing in-water decompression stops totaling 35 minutes before could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet. As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my ass as soon as I get in the chamber. The cream put the fire out, but couldn't shit for 2 days because my ******* was swollen shut. So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your ass! ! !
  4. quote: Originally posted by Has: Regarding Spider-man saved game. Tried it 3 times, by the book. First two was ok, but CTD when shuttles RTB (they were in space). Tried it without leaving tacops, no CTD. Thats the point; its not 100% reproducible (I still can't reproduce it), which is why I am of the opinion that it is probably related to that fix I mentioned. Thanks guys!! ps: the point I was trying to make is; I can't fix what I can't reproduce.
  5. quote: Originally posted by Grayfox: however, when they went into RTB mode, and when the first shuttle was about to dock, i got a CTD. Your RTB mention above, made me look at a specific area. And even though I cannot reproduce it on my 1.0.05 build yet (memory crashes are as random as they come), what could be causing it is related to a recent fix in 1.0.06 RC6. Check the VCF for this entry. I am going to apply just that fix to a 1.0.05 source code build and test it again. If I still cannot reproduce it however, I'll pass along that particular EXE to both you and SpiderMan so that you can run it and confirm that its not happening any longer. oh, I'll be handing out TOD medals later [ 02-20-2002, 18:39: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  6. quote: Originally posted by Dredd: Well, it is from 1.0.05. I looked at all the links I could find though about the correct procedure for sending in saved games, and on the "System Configuration" topic link that the SC posted, it said "Topic not found" or something along those lines. I don't want to screw up the procedure for sending in the games, so could someone please post exactly what I should do with my saved game file(s), and how I de-note which ones to load/send? You didn't look hard enough. The topic is in the archives forum.
  7. LMAO!!! Now thats funny, Skyfox Anyway, I'm going to solicit some volunteers (Skyfox, you're one of them; anyone else who wants to volunteer, let me know, then post your results.) for this assignment. I'm trying to prove a point. Below is SpiderMan's email to me about this problem. Ignore the bit about the artifact; just like I did. Somehow he mistook the dev email for a 1-900 hint line. Fool. quote: I have a saved game where My asset is sitting on the second moon of Zelana. there are four full mining drones elsewhere on the moon. If I take off from the moon and leave the drones alone, nothing happens. Everything is okay, the game progresses normally AS LONG AS I DONT TRY TO GET THOSE DRONES. I have CTD'd over and over again just trying to get the contents of those drones. I have a CTD that is reproducible. 1. load saved game 2. Go to logistix and turn on power to the systems that had been turned off while sitting on planet (basically all the systems except lifesupport, tactical, comms, etc). 3. go to VTOL and lift off the ground. 4. switch to FTOL and fly into space. 5. GO to tac-ops and observe the planet 6. set waypoints for four shuttles and have each "extract" the drone of the appropriate number. 7. go to tactical and put a pilot in each shuttle. 8. launch the shuttles. 9. Wait 10. CTD will occur just after two or three of the drones are extracted by the shuttles. again, if I leave the drones alone, no CTD. I even tried leaving my Asset on the planet, getting into a shuttle myself and extracting the drones one by one back to the asset (took a long time, had to change shuttles each time). Once I finally got the cargo all loaded up, all the shuttles and drones were aboard, I turned all the Asset's systems on and headed for outer space. Whammo! -- CTD. thank you for your time. ONE LAST THING: ?? WHY HASNT MY RESEARCH ENGINEER RECOGNIZED OR INSTALLED THE CELESTIAL ORB??? Now, download his saved game(800K). Move all your saved games out of the SAVE folder and extract his in there. Now resume his game and follow his instructions EXACTLY as shown. I have been unable to reproduce this on the four machines I tried it on.
  8. quote: Originally posted by Dredd: I doubt it could be a graphics issue since it even crashes while i'm docked, but I don't know. You guys are the experts. Is my system screwed up, or is there a bug? Send in the saved game which can be used to reproduce this problem. As Papi said, if its not from 1.0.05....well then, pray that its from 1.0.05. And make sure you describe the problem and send in the files as requested. Any deviation from the norm and the file will be deleted on sight. And that will be the end of any investigation.
  9. quote: Originally posted by Spider-man: did my saved game work? or did you get the same CTD? Read your email. If I wanted to write everything twice, I'd hire a mime. [ 02-20-2002, 09:10: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  11. Well, uhm, thanks! Don't forget, I was a gamer first. Then I decided to go an' ruin it all by becoming a game developer. Man, if I knew then what I know now, I'd have moved to Latrobe, PA and taken up cow tipping for kicks.
  12. No kidding. I mean, every frigging online game forum I go to - practically every one - is riddled with crap. God help you if you are actually looking for helpful information.
  13. Yep. Those are the drivers I've been using for a while now. Previously only available to developers.
  14. Thanks Gallion I never did see the original post, but you suppressed his posting rights, I just banned and deleted his profile. So far, the forum has been nice and clean; but once in while some jackass yahoo shows up and thinks this is their f*cking living room; or the news groups [ 02-19-2002, 09:11: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  15. quote: Originally posted by Dredd: HA HA HA HA HA!!! Thank you all! I downloaded the stuff SC pointed me too, and BCM works now. Must have been the VIA 4 in 1 drivers! Whatever the case, it works! Thanks for all of your time and effort of putting up with my ignorance. What?!?! You mean no DeD?!?! Well, I'm disappointed. Anyway, glad you got it worked out. And make sure you update your profile!!!
  16. quote: Originally posted by Grayfox: (or his little elves LMAO!! I don't think Gallion's been called that before.
  17. Go to www.madonion.com, download 3DMark2001SE then install and run it. And how come you know your BIOS model, but not your motherboard? Are you kidding me? Thats not only dangerous, its foolhardy. e.g. if your mobo is based on the VIA chipset, then you need to download the VIA 4-in-1 drivers. If it is an intel 850 chipset and you have UDMA HDD, then you need the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver (e.g. if you have an IBM GXP drive capble of UDMA5 burst speed access). And I think the updated FAQ mentions something about a driver update for winXP related to CDROM drivers and SafeDisc. Its Q/A #3 in the list. And as Gallion said, your sys info profile is laughable. e.g. depending on how old your mouse is, the latest version of the Intellipoint software from Microsoft, is 4.1. etc etc etc This is EXACTLY why not everyone with access to a screwdriver should build a system. Let alone go NEAR one without protective clothing. You don't need help; you need a good pinpoint accurate DeD, for wasting everyone's time with this crap. 18. Nothing to do with BCM. Check your system drivers Also, WHY are you using UNSUPPORTED commandline parameters with BCM - AND - when you are trying to troubleshoot your system?

Example start a new game pick a aestorm point it directly at a station or any angle and the pta's will only blink a few times never fire consistently. Now if you use a firestorm the pta's will slash the station. About my save game was probly coroupted eh? wtf is this doing in here? If you don't know how the turrets work (and which depends on the ship they are mounted on) ask someone who does. And the saved game loaded fine on my end and didn't crash once. 21. Don't worry, if it ends up being too tough, just ask Gallion nicely, and am sure he'll create a GBS-II mod which reverts the settings to their original values. Not a big deal really, since 90% of the changes I did, are scripted and can be changed.

  23. quote: Originally posted by netshaman: Hi SC, i has found one: if i dock at a naval base in earth for example, and choose the tradcom in the menu it results with a CTD. I tried it 2 times and it is the same result. Cheers. Reproduced. Am on it. Looks like it was caused by a change in the previous patch. Easy fix. Thanks!
  24. quote: Originally posted by Roberto: A ODS around a station? Wow, this is gona be hard to beat. Makes sense though since stations should have their own defences. uhm, stations have defenses. They're called missiles and turrets.
  25. Frigging cool!! Get it!! Man, I'm so glad they didn't botch this. The graphics aren't anything special, but they get the job done. And once you've played it. Just think, in about 18 months, you'd have an entire ship - an entire ship - to command.
