  1. Unless you posted the wrong pics, I see NO evidence of RANDOM use in ANY of those shots. What'd I miss? Besides, you should've taken a close-up shot of the site from Tacops (zoomed in) and a close-up shot of the same area from Tacops, also zoomed in. And you should've taken it during daylight since it would be more evident in the shots. But I guess that never occured to you. [ 02-24-2002, 14:33: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  2. Check the VCF for info on how I decided to handle this issue in order to keep both camps off my back.
  3. quote: Originally posted by Spider-man: I have a saved game where My asset is sitting on the second moon of Zelana. there are four full mining drones elsewhere on the moon. If I take off from the moon and leave the drones alone, nothing happens. Everything is okay, the game progresses normally AS LONG AS I DONT TRY TO GET THOSE DRONES. I have CTD'd over and over again just trying to get the contents of those drones. I have a CTD that is reproducible. I finally walked this saved game entry by entry and found the problem. Your saved game was corrupted prior to the incorrect information for drone #4 being retrieved. That drone was sharing the same memory space as an object in another region. In fact, the corruption occured right around the time you deployed the first drone and that information got saved to the save game. This type of corruption (the entry had a truncated name) is due to HDD or other similar corruption. All I did was used a hex editor to rename it and the problem was solved. I suggest that you run Scandisk or Norton Disk Doctor on your drives. And if you are manually adjusting your Windows VMM settings - STOP - let Windows manage it; especially if you have less than 256MB of real memory installed on the machine. Since this was not a problem with BCM, there's nothing to fix. I did however put in some code in the upcoming patch which will either correct this error or exit with a saved game error message when loading this game. In fact, the saved game you sent now works fine using this integrity check. But if you plan on applying the defense update for 1.0.06 (see VCF), this is all moot, since you won't be able to use previous saved games anyway. 4. Try it now. The person who wrote the hack obviously didn't test it. He left a dangling } in the code.
  5. I know about that one but I decided not to restrict it or NPCs will litter the region much longer (slow speed + long distance = NPC hanging around too long) than necessary. This is specifically due to stations and other NPCs whose job it is to tow their disabled/damaged assets (or others) out of the region and clean it up.
  6. I've upgraded to the latest version of UBB which has polling enabled. To prevent wanton abuse of this feature, by the Usual Suspects, I configured it so that only admins and mods can create polls. If you are just a regular member who wants to see a poll setup, send email to your most liked admin or mod. Send me any such request and I'm going make you do this
  7. Put the ship in HALT mode and turn on the A/P. You might also want to clear any target currently displayed in the CVD. [ 02-23-2002, 12:12: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  8. Yeah, that was a pretty serious one and only manifests itself depending on when intruders beamed on board and during what AI tick. Thats why most people didn't experience it. And those who never did get boarded by a team of suicidal intruders (because they usually have power to LC turned off) won't experience it at all. I took one look at the code and realized the severity of it; and thats why I released SP1. In fact, now that I think about it, that problem could also be a possible cause of some saved games not loading - especially if the game didn't crash when this problem occured but you saved anyway with that incorrect information stored. Dunno though; so am just guessing. In fact the new failsafe triggers in the saved game were implemented for especially this kind of problem.
  9. quote: Originally posted by Dredd: Don't we inject mind control chips into prisoners? That's what I thought it was, since we can order them around on the ship too without a military escort. Ankle tags maybe?
  10. You might want to consider what that other almost-court-martialed commander did in that other thread (to his prisoners). Launch a couple of drones and have your officers escort the drones. And just before they are about to drop dead from exhaustion, bring them back to the ship, let them rest and send them back out. In no time, you should have high AI officers. This post in no way condones the mistreatment of NPCs. So, YMMV

  12. OK, so now corrupted saved games to investigate then?
  13. quote: Originally posted by Fractux: I was just giving him a good work out and he goes and looses his rifle and his kit!! That's a good 2 years in military prison for loosing your rifle! hehe... no matter what he does, he will be a prisoner forever more... Teaches him to try and take my ship. heh, actually I keep forgetting to change that. Even though intruders are military, it doesn't make sense to give them weapons if you deploy them. Of course, I never expected anybody to want to beam them off the ship. Which is how we end up with prisoners have weapons. I'm surprised that they don't engage your other troops, actually.
  14. quote: Originally posted by Stormshadow: It's kinda weird being Supreme Commander. Words I've never used before like "Sheesh" and "Siddown" have crept into my vocabulary. Not to mention phrases like " It'll be ready when it's ready,..and it ain't ready" and "You have been warned", to name a few. Probably the worst part is all this E-mail and letters from these barely coherent commanders who obviously need help removing their heads from their "third point of contact". Sheesh!! Then , they slip up to me and try to tell me how to run this campaign!!! Like Shermans March to the Sea, I've left a flaming trail of death and destruction across the Gammulan Quadrant and the STORMDRAGON now sits in orbit around the Gammulan Homeworld raining nuclear ruin down upon our Foe, and they have the gall to want to give me tactical tips! LMAO!!! What?? No shots!??!! C'mon, we need a shot or something. And I noticed no RANDOM weapon use is logged? What!? Don't tell me an SCMDR in GALCOM is taking the moral high ground. 16. The next person to post a bogus Red herring in this forum, is getting their posting rights suppressed. Find someone else who shares your lunacy and take it to private message or ICQ. I loaded that saved game and restore it just fine on four machines. In fact, three are still running it just fine.

  18. quote: Originally posted by xierxior: So im sure it's the 1.0.0.5 SP1 Can someone els confirm this? No its not. I changed only ONE line of code in that patch. NOTHING else.
  19. quote: Originally posted by Dredd: Just one thing though, there are/were no intruders on board. It turned to 12:00, and a couple enemy ships showed up in space, but no intruders even up to an hour afterwards. Game works totally fine now though, so i'm not complaining. Oh? now you want to argue? As soon as the intruders board and a personnel AI tick occurs, the game will generate a fatal error and exit. Thats why it always happens at the same time (the intruders boarding code was already seeded). The type of ship that jumps in during that tick is not the same each time. Which is why you probably don't have intruders coming on board. And since the game quits immediately, you have no way of knowing that intruders had boarded. I do, because I inspected it under the debugger. *sheesh* And I didn't release it just because YOU happened to have a bad game. For that, you could've waited for the next patch, like everyone else. I released it because it is a serious problem that can happen at any time this condition occurs. And considering the frequency of intruder boarding, this problem could happen a lot. Even those folks who have launch control power off, will experience this problem the minute they turn it on (e.g. for launch ops) with a hostile ship in the area that happens to send over a strike team. 21. quote: Originally posted by Duncan Idaho: Spidey, Understood, and you're right, (SC's right I mean), it probably isn't the save that's corrupt, but something the save wants to do when loaded isn't working properly on systems similar to mine (at the least). I should remember not to use that term ("corrupted save") as we don't know that's what the problem is. I just have some hope that eventually the cause of this will get ferreted out, whether it's in the game or our drivers/system. Idaho If you DO have a saved game that refuses to load, send it in and I'll take a look. Just to be sure.
  22. quote: Originally posted by Dredd: Thanks SC! This has got to be one of the best tech supports on the planet. When a bug is found, it is fixed and a patch is released on the SAME DAY!!!! Well, the problem was properly described and all the necessary files sent. It took me 5 mins to get it up and running and another 1 min to fix it. And it is a serious problem; especially due to the frequency with which intruders can board ships and personnel AI ticks occur during that time. In fact, if anyone with intruders on board, has ever had a game just quit (either silently or with a fatal CTD), I can bet dimes to a dollar that this is the cause of it. Thats how serious it was. Anyway, VCF has been updated.
  23. quote: Originally posted by Duncan Idaho: Can't beat that with a stick. Idaho ...now if you could find me a problem to fix, we'll all be happy; so that you can stop whining. [ 02-21-2002, 19:09: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  24. If you are getting an unexpected CTD or game quitting when you have intruders on-board, download this interim patch and just unzip it in your BCM install folder, overwriting the current BCM.EXE file. BCM 1.0.05 SP1 Patch I would advise that EVERYONE grab this patch, just in case. I expect to have the 1.0.06 final patch out soon (hopefully this weekend) Beta testers : do NOT download this patch!! Check the secure folder for an update to 1.0.06 RC6 which contains this fix.
