In fact, in XP1, since the planets are real and the system requirements have been beefed up, the sphere is a lot more rounded and the new light sources will also give that eerie glow. Not a big deal - its just nicer when the planet is real i.e. you can enter it and not just some restricted, canned section ala Elite. Lets put it this way, Freelancer will be competing directly with XP1 come fall. [ 02-28-2002, 10:27: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  2. Those are some funky cool skins!! btw, please change those links and use regular file links instead of IMG tags. [ 02-28-2002, 10:21: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

("Nah honey, we can make it.") I was doing somthing similar today as I was heading back to Earth to retrieve my drones. After jumping into the home system, I didn't have enough fuel to engage my hyperdrive to make the final jump to Galcom HQ. Rats! I sent my AE out in a shuttle on a fuel run to HQ so I could get my CC started up again. I can just see my crew waiting for me to show up with the red gas can. Maybe some individual with ambition can start a Triple A service when MP arrives? LOL!!! I can just see this happening in mp. Waiting around for your shuttle to come back....just when the other sides figures out you're probably stranded.

  5. quote: Originally posted by xierxior: I like the new stations there hard to destroy now (which is a good thing), except I think they should start a sos at about 1000 not 100, because it seems like your to busy trying to avoid their pta systems, to stop in one place and pick away at the hull, plus the fighters shooting at you and missing hitting the station. Probably a good idea. I'll mull over it for the mp patch. Even though for that patch, in order to capture a station, someone has to be an SFM, fly over to the station and blow a hatch. Thats the only way it can be captured. You can't do it by sitting around in your craft. quote: Another possible problem I noticd fighters get destroyed allmost instantly now from station pta systems, maybe they could do evasife manuvers if there ai is 50 or above to miss the pta beams? They do and its based on their AI and craft performance. quote: Edit: after playing a few hours I noticd the npc ships dont have a chance anywhere near a station, they get destroyed before even getting a shot off thats a bad thing before I used to have to actually defend stations, maybe pta systems could miss npc ships more do less damage, I mean its better for humens how the stations are now but the poor npc's are at a disadvantageFighters have no business taking on stations - unless there are a bunch of them distracting and occupying all the turrets target acquistion arrays, leaving some areas of the station without coverage.
  6. quote: Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Even thought I'm not too happy about the defense updrade... I noticed GHQ is now the weakest station is terms of shields/armor. Just look at Genesis. What ARE you talking about? GHQ has a shield/armor rating of 25000/35000. The Genesis station (Type 3), has a rating of 25500/35000. What'd I miss? And further, those ratings bear no relevance whatsover, in the general scheme of things when you take the number of turrets and their firing rating (as well as coverage) into account. 7. quote: Originally posted by Vanethian: Well... it seems a good review. But it's a pity he didn't talk at all about the impressive supporting role of 3000ad staff, the patches that are released so often compared to other softwarehouses support, the Battlecruiser Community set up by Derek (it's a big positive point!) and the Xtended Play packs that are imminent. Dunno what that has to do with anything. Games are expected to be supported and should bear no relevance to the review whatsoever.
  8. Yep. They're pretty stable and so far have given me zero problems. In fact, all my nVidia based machines are running those drivers now.
  9. Like we said, works fine here. Uninstall, re-install, check your video drivers etc. We're done here
  10. quote: Originally posted by netshaman: Hi SC, with this new patch there are two little things that had appeared: a CTD if there are intruders onboard when you switch to perscan. I have run extensive tests on this and could not reproduce the problem. I even used Playmod (playmod create intruder 6) to create several intruders and PerScan works fine.
  11. quote: Originally posted by Scoobie: I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem having patched to V1.0.06. Nope. Works fine here, Scoob
  12. quote: Originally posted by Fractux: I loaded up scenario IA 02 and found that the gammulan station got more than an upgrade... Photo Its a multi-national trader station It works fine here The NEXT person to report a problem related to the use of 1.0.05 compliance patch, is not going to get their posting rights withdrawn, they're going to get outright banned from the site. If you were using the official SUPPORTED 1.0.06 patch, that station would have e.g. an armor rating of 32000. So obviously you are not. LAST warning
  13. quote: Originally posted by Spider-man: holy crap, I'll buy one! They're not for sale. They were on limited edition and I just happen to have a spare one lying around. I got four on my wall.
  14. I need a saved game. Send it in. I had intruders in a game yesterday and monitored them in PerScan just fine. No work has been done in fp mode recently, so I dunno why the weapons firing rate would be increased. Will check it out now. Perhaps it got broken when that grenade throw cheat was plugged. Last time I tried it, the weapons were fine. If these two are confirmed, the 1.0.06 patch will be re-released with these fixes. [ 02-27-2002, 18:46: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  15. Talk about double whammy. I didn't even realize that my issue of CGM was also in this pile of garbage I receive each day. I was tossing out all the crap and found it nestled in between the OfficeMax and Microwarehouse catalogues. Anyway, also gave a 3.5/5 stars. I have uploaded a scanned copy of the review.
  16. woohooo!! Got my copy in the mail today. I literally had to wrestle the mailman to the ground. I happened to see him drive up, through the window of my office. hehe Anyway, 3.5/5 stars I have posted a scanned copy. Wait'll you see how much stuff Jeff crammed in 500 words.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Duncan Idaho: SC, Yeah, I understand pandemonium. Heheh. Okay, who knows, perhaps this base was already fixed, since you'd already gone over them. It wasn't one of the ones I fixed. Here is how to see which ones I fixed. Apply the 1.0.06 patch (if you haven't already) Copy PTE2PTEDEFS.INI to a temp folder Apply the 1.0.05 compliance patch Copy the PTE2PTEDEFS.INI to another temp folder Apply the 1.0.06 patch Now, using a file compare tool, compare those two versions of the PTEDEFS.INI file and you will see which sites I fixed, how the digits were off etc etc. You will see that Earth's moon (moonp), was not one of them.
  18. Yes, I am. In fact I released the full version to the testers yesterday, along with the final patch. The general consensus is to not release it to the public until I'm done with the docs. I will spend some time with it in the coming days. Gimme about a week or so. I've been buried between BCM patch, mp, XP1 etc etc and sitting down doing docs is just a boring venture.
  19. quote: Originally posted by KreKol: Ok, so what is this "special prize" I won???? Dunno. How about the fullsize poster wall map of the game galaxy. Did you get one of those when you bought the game? If not, you can have one. If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about. We did some special promos for early birds ordering BCM. The map you see on the back of the keyboard sheet was done in actual size and measuring something like 26.5" x 26.5"
  20. Well, ask Gallion nicely and he'll show you how to beat a station. As for fleets. You have C&C use it. You can give them the halt order, order them to escort a distance jump anomaly or something etc etc. Use your imagination if you want to have better control of them. And yes, you CAN beat stations - even with a single carrier. You just have to know how. Flak, thanks for the feedback. Quite valuable. I'm sure that mp will require a LOT more tweaks. So, I won't worry about that if I were you. Remember, we have Beta testers and just like you, they play the game as gamers. And they had these revisions almost two weeks now and have been playing around with it. The general consensus was that it was OK. So, I made it final. E5, if you don't like the changes. No problem. Wait for GBS-II to be released and just go in and change everything you want. Not a big deal. [ 02-27-2002, 14:38: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  21. Not a problem. In fact, now that I think about it, I should probably disable the enumeration of the mzones in the GBM (top level) map in order to avoid this confusion. A while back in this thread, I think you saw some posts where starbases were scripted in the wrong location. I found and fixed them. If this were the case, I would have fixed it too before releasing the patch. But I can't see anything wrong. If you do, by all means, provide credible info and I'll be all over it before you even start thinking about heading for the airlock. You think I'm hard on you? ha! You don't know the half of it. Just ask the Beta testers. I am HIGHLY efficient at what I do - and anything that threatens this (since I don't have 30 people working on my projects) causes me grief. Time taken running around like a loose goose, is time taken away from development. I'm sure you understand.
  22. Fast server huh Blerm? Cool one more mp server candidate. btw, this is the final major patch. As you can see, I collected all the gripes for over a month, before releasing this. So, don't expect another patch before the mp patch - unless we find a seriously FATAL problem. That bug with intruders was pretty major. So hopefully everything is stable now (at least for those foolish enough to let intruders on board) and we shouldn't have any more invalid 1.0.06 saved games etc etc. But, as they say, even the best laid plans..... The effect is still in the engine, I just have it disabled. Also, the final version would have been aligned along the X axis so that it looks like that opening sequence to Armageddon movie. 24. LOL!!! Man, thats funny. I know what you mean. Sometimes I read reviews and come away with, well, nothing. Still haven't received my CGW issue yet. I'm going to seek out and ambush my mail guy every day this week. I swear he's reading my mags before delivering them.
