  2. LOL!! ...oh wait!! Thats not funny. The FIRST person to send us that, is getting banned!
  3. quote: Originally posted by Urza: To some degree, I agree with Unknown_Enemy that newbies are very important to getting some fresh blood around here, and if we neglect them, they won't come. However, that's what the demo is for, and we should keep the demo forum open to the public as well, and let people who don't own the game yet to partially register so they can post in the demo and general discussion forums. After they buy the game, they can enter their key and be given access to the rest of the boards. But I think SC already has all this figured out and I've already voiced my opinon, so whatever he has planned is all right with me. Indeed Also, some people are forgeting that there is nobody back here being PAID to monitor this forum etc. A lot of companies either (a) don't bother with their forums ( don't even HAVE forums © pay a group of people to take care of it. So, when we spend a LOT of time and money (bandwidth isn't cheap) developing a game, supporting it etc, that LAST thing anyone needs is to clog the forum with either (a) crap or ( repetitive bullshit. For me, this place is like a club. There are rules. You don't like the rules, clear the hell out. Period.
  4. And you can't drop weapons in single player either. Due to the numerous amount of options, it needs special handling. e.g. if an EFM drops a ZS10, a pilot can't pick it up because that character is not allowed that weapon etc. So, by the time the mp patch is out, special handling will be implemented for it in mp but not sp. In sp, you can't drop your weapons/ammo/items, nor pickup any. If you want to heal injury, infection or radiation or you want to repair your combat armor or just get more clips for the weapons you are carrying, you have to locate a supply station. There are several at all bases. The supply station has a med, repair and weapon station all in one. In sp, you or NPCs can use it. In mp, up to three people can use it at the same time. The soundfx for the medical station are hilarious. Wait'll you'll hear it for the first time - you'll piss yourself laughing at the noise your AE makes when he is being fixed. I'll probably enable this in the E3 demo. Or maybe not. Can't give everything away. Go buy the damn game. As I was typing this, I captured some shots showing me using a supply station and then later jetpacking to the top of a solar plant....and camping the station, waiting for some hapless NPC to come use it. In mp, I'm sure you'd be doing the same thing. Especially since they can be destroyed and take 15 mins to rebuild. [ 10-15-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  6. quote: Originally posted by Urza: Hmm, did anyone notice you? I wouldn't blame you, given what you've had to put up with electronicly. I'd hate thinking about what would happen if Shirley saw you in the theater... heh, people do notice me, cuz am usually the only being around who looks totally clueless to the world at large. I half expect someone to walk up to me ask me if I came in peace. Some people don't even know whether to say "...hello", or "...wazzup bro!" because most can't figure out my origin. The former gets a mumbled "...hi" and the latter gets a blank stare and sometimes with the added "...who the f*ck u calling bro? Do I look like I could ever be your bro?" Actually, the baby attracts a lot of attention. Just wait till she starts talking properly and goes telling her mommy that a lot chics come up to us. My office couch will be working overtime because thats where I'll be sleeping. Wanna get chics? Get a dog (a cute dog) or a baby. [ 10-15-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

There's a demo tutorial at: http://www.3000ad.com/demo/bcmdemo.html which covers the scenarios found in both Ep.1 and Ep.2 - I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't even notice this when I downloaded the demo. Then there is the full game tutorial at: http://www.3000ad.com/files/bcmtutorial.html which is what I used to get to grips with the game. So my apologies, it seems you were looking at the correct tutorial and I wasn't. Oh well, you live and you learn [ 10-15-2001: Message edited by: Elenkis ] No problem. I'm quite impressed actually. Very good. You're getting the hang of it.
  8. Well that settles that, doesn't it? And quite frankly, how ANYONE could confuse the tutorials, eludes me. I mean, it IS linked to from the downloads page on the site. Further, OBVIOUSLY as a demo, it is not expected to reflect the final game - hence there being TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TUTORIALS. In fact, the final game's tutorial is NOT even linked anywhere on the downloads page because the game is NOT yet released. Look, I know most of you are used to the chaos present on other gaming forums. You will NOT find that here and we do NOT tolerate it. If being corrected gets your feelings hurt... DON'T COME TO THE FORUM!! NOBODY is here to babysit anyone above and beyond the norm. And you won't finding anyone chanting koomabaya when someone asks stupid questions. The very aspect of BUYING and PLAYING a BC game, indicates a level of intellect, discipline and respect. As such, even a newbie will be new only to the game itself and hopefully not new to the very concept of how to use common sense and the tremendous amount of resources already available. It is OK to ask questions. Yes, even stupid ones. Its when we see posts like what actrade writes, that gets on people's nerves. In fact, I am deliberately leaving his posts up (normally, they'd be deleted) so that others can see just what the heck we're dealing with. There is a distinct difference between being (a) a clueless newbie and a ( smart ass. The first category, we can deal with. The second are a lost cause and do NOT belong here - whether you have the game or not. As for you actrade, I don't know WHAT your problem is. But I'm watching you. [edit] Ok Kenada, I approved you. [ 10-14-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ] And how the hell did he register on the site with a vanity email address? He probably didn't. He probably just figured that he could do that. ANY person I find in that fleet DB with a vanity email address, is getting booted and the fleet leader demoted. End of story.
  11. quote: Originally posted by Cmdr Jeffery Eu: I understand what you mean. Anyway, try lurking around for awhile to see where you're more suited to.Word of advise though, even in BCM:MP the indies will be getting the raw end of the deal as the SC has stated clearly that he will be scripting multiplayer epics for the fleets with a general exception of one or two indies. So if you're thinking of getting involved in large battles, multiplayer and roleplaying, you might want to consider joining the fleets instead. The above reason, is why Riga and myself are organising Intercorp instead and gearing it more towards GCO as we both have RL constraints that does not allow us to abide by the rules of the fleets All true, but you can still play your indie role on fleet servers - unless you lack the imagination that it takes to pull it off.
  12. quote: Originally posted by Rico Jansen: I believe th SC put those adds in as a curtousy to EB. Totally on his free will. As a way to thank EB for the way they supported him, or because he appreciated the business relationship they have. I don't believe EB send him any money for it. That is correct
  13. Thats nothing We were sitting next to some jackass who kept reading the Iron Monkey sub-titles out loud. Lucky for him, about ten other people yelled at him before I followed through with my plan to gag him with his popcorn bag.

  15. quote: Originally posted by Chrysophylax: A tongue lashing from SC was all I needed to be formally initiated into the BC brotherhood heh, while true, I think you got away relatively scot free quote: I downloaded the second demo and it works just fine. Thats because it uses DX8 and nVidia fixed their drivers. quote: The FAQ says it knows a couple of drivers that do work. It doesn't say the latest ones won't work. Since the z-buffer controls have been disabled, isn't there any way I could get this first demo to work? The FAQ says no such thing. Read it again. S_L_O_W_L_Y this time. nVidia removed the Z buffer check because it was illegal to begin with (hence the problem in DX7) and in order pass WHQL certification, that setting had to be removed from their applet and the driver registry. Yes, I was right all along when I reported that it was an nVidia problem to begin with. No, unless I recompile the E1 demo using the latest code, it won't work. I don't plan on doing this - so don't ask. If you're going to buy the game and the E2 demo doesn't give you enough info, you're not going to buy the game anyway. You don't need fifty demos for that. I only released episodic demos because having all the features in a single demo was not feasible. If you're late to the party, you're late to the party. No use crying over it. All credit card orders are negotiated in USD. To order, go to the orders page and click on the BMT Micro link.

  19. I am working on it as we speak and it should be out by the upcoming weekend. It will contain some of the missions from both the E1 and E2 demos - with some variations. Probably nothing else since its pointless, now that the game is Gold. The fact that weapons will now work, means that the fp missions included in the E2 demo will be more exciting. Especially since there will now be marines shooting at you. [ 10-14-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  20. As I posted on VE forum: BCM has gone Gold as of 9-24-01 BCM is in PRODUCTION (steps :manual layout+printing, keyboard sheet layout+printing, box layout+printing, CDROM duplication, final packaging etc). Most companies do their production months in advance. They can afford it. They have the personnel who have done it all before, so its a no brainer. I am a FIRST TIME self-publisher and have to do everything - which means co-ordinating THREE companies involved in this process AND approving of everything (manuals and box sent back to me for checking and final approval etc before going to manufacturing etc) As for development, production is the same procedure: ITS READY WHEN ITS READY, AND RIGHT NOW, IT AIN'T READY. EB has nothing to do with production. They're just estimating that by the time is it out of production, shipped to their central warehouse, and then on to their stores, it won't be ready to ship until 10/29. And its when publishers do all this stuff even BEFORE the game is finished, that you see inaccuracies on the box text (i.e. features on the box, which you won't find in the game), inaccuracies or ommissions in the manual etc (which in turn lead to massive readme.txt files included on the CDROM) etc. In my case, the box and manual are indicative of the game, as shipped. I had to proof the manual THREE times, before I okayed it for production. There were lots of formating issues. i.e. I gave it to them in MS Word, they use QuarkExpress which does not import MS Word files. It imports as text, with NO format preservation. So, they had to print out my version, then match the formating. Then the galaxy map was so small (and in Grey scale), it was hardly readable. So I had them move it out of the manual and onto the back of the keyboard sheet. Which in turn made it possible to do the map in color (which costs me MORE money of course). Items which had to be sent to me for proofing and final sign-off prior to manufacturing. And they were not sent all at once, btw. box art box layout box proof cdrom art cdrom check manual layout (three times) keyboard (twice) Most companies have other people who do all this stuff. I am the only person who can and had to do this. [ 10-14-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Then again maybe it's just the 2 stores in my area (Newport News and Hamtpon VA). I thought you might like to know. Ravonaf Thanks for the headsup, but I don't have any control over it. I'll send my EB contact a message about.
  22. quote: Originally posted by JJ: dude can i get a link i'm not seeing it there Its not online. Its in the print version of the December issue. This link just shows how they score their titles.
  23. Andy docked the game points because of multiplayer. Thats what he was refering to in the Final Verdict where is says that it is incomplete. Here is how he clarifies that point via email. As for the graphics issue, he has a Voodoo 5500. Enough said. This was purely in reference to the unfinished MP component. I made no mention of any bugs in the review. In BCM's case the lack of multiplayer in the initial release negates a sizeable chunk of the game's content (e.g. Marine and Fighter Pilot careers). I rarely knock off more than a few points (if any) for an AWOL multiplayer component (the single player game is far more important to me than the mp part anyway) but when this impacts a title's gameplay content as much as it does with BCM I feel duty bound to ensure that its rating reflects this. And I said in a thread on our internal Beta mailing list, no review could ever fully capture everything that BCM (or any BC title) is, so, reviewers have to cut corners somewhere, due to the limited space and whatnot. If you feel that the game should not have lost points due to mp, then add 15% to it, and you'll have the score it should've had. I still have not seen the review, but here is what the Final Verdict looks like. High: Huge universe to explore; comprehensive selection of races and spacecraft; exhaustive options. Lows: No multiplay yet; only one structured campaign, uninspiring graphics; steep learning curve. Bottom line: A highly ambitious freeform space sim but still incomplete.
  24. quote: Originally posted by actrade: I finally found out it comes at 13:15, not 13:05 as the tutorial suggests. Look guys, I'm new to the BC series and am a long time flight simmer. I've seen the board "grognards" abuse new players for years, only to the detriment of the whole genre. I asked a simple question only after surfing and reading for a day. Did no one know the answer, or was it just easier to post unhelpful answers? I'm trying to like this game and have already ordered it from EB and I'd really appreciate it if everyone would be constructive with their responses. I've seen SC verbally lash people asking questions that are in the tutorial/version revison, which I can't say I blame him, but when the tutorial is wrong, what's a newbie to do? Here is what the tutorial says Around 13:05 game time, a hostile carrier will warp into the region To me (and probably to any grognard), this means that the timing is not exact. In the time it took you to install and uninstall, you could've spent that extra 10 mins actually playing the game rather than expecting the unexpected If there was no tutorial, you wouldn't have known about the specifics of that craft any way. Its a demo. As to the rest of your rhetoric, I'm just going to ignore it for now because not only is it rubbish (don't buy the game - frankly, I don't give a toss. go cancel your order), it is fraught with inaccuracies. Thats that [ 10-14-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

As stupid as this may sound, the Display properties->advanced section doesn't say anything about Direct3d. The closest I got to this was the 3D antialiasing control. I tried tinkering with it, but still couldn't get the demo to work. I tried doing the super fast triple mouse click as suggested. Unfortunately, it didn't work. If you actually READ the FAQ, you would see that it SPECIFICALLY mentions the drivers which DO work with the E1 demo. In the later drivers, nVidia have REMOVED access to the z-buffer settings.
