BCM only has a HUD view, as seen in the demo. Dunno why he's looking at the BC3K manual and asking if BCM will look like that. Probably hasn't played the BCM demos?

Yes I didn't want mp to just be some run-of-the-mill stuff thrown together, just to say that it supports mp. As such... Yes, LOTS more including player-to-player trading, space/planetary missions, absolutely NO restrictions on arenas e.g. you could have players on the ground in vehicles, on the ground in first person, in space etc...oh wait, go read my dev diaries (check the archives at the bottom of the page) Yes. And LOTS more Yes. And LOTS more In short, if you can do it in single-player, there is a very good chance that you can do it multiplayer. There will be some sort of restrictions, but they will be minimal.

In the final version, the tractor beam will work on floating or submerged entities. I just hadn't done it, in that E2 kernel.

BCM Episode 2 demo - What I think

quote: I thought for a while on how to reply to your post. I had heard things on the net about how you treat people, but figured it was exageration. sadly that is not the case. wtf?? Are you kidding me!? quote: First of all. I am a VERY informed gamer. Yeah, OK. I'll take your word for it. But, just read your FIRST paragraph again. quote: Secondly the STG 4500 is not a dead card. Thats debatable, isn't it? There is a very good reason why sales of GF2 GTS, MX and in fact, Radeon 64MB boards, continue to trash Kyro-II boards in sales (where it matters the most). And its not even in the same league as a GF3. So, lets not go there. quote: thirdly I also own a Geforce 2 card and prefer the 4500 in most games. Read that again. I rest my case. quote: Suffice it to say that the STG 4500 plays your demo without T&L very fast at high resolutions with the max detail settings allowed even using 4xFSAA. The demo are built for a controlled (Instant Action) environment with small engagements. A regular game of BCM, using that card, falls flat at anything higher than 800x600 in 32-Bit mode with any FSAA setting. Then gain, wtf do I know, right? I only designed and developed it. Plus, I had a Kyro II card long before you even read about it anywhere. quote: I wonder why you think its ok to insult people, even just in inference? Who are you to treat people who want to support your hard work with such a condesending attitude? ....thinking what to type.....aw f*ck it. I simply can't be bothered. Others will read my post, then yours - and draw their own conclusions. Just play the demo and go buy the game when it comes out - now that you've made me type up this crap. If you're happy with your card, I'm happy for you. But don't just jump on me for expressing MY opinions on MY frigging board. [ 07-26-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -
Thats been fixed. The kernel wasn't being properly re-initialized if you quit/die and start a new game from the main menu without fully quitting to the OS. Just quit all the way out to the OS, and restart.

Dunno whats going on, but my listing is below. code: 8/03/1998 2:00 1,400,233 3KLOGO.ANI 8/03/1998 2:00 1,369,736 Bay20.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 2,133,732 Bay21.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 2,201,372 Bay22.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 271,792 Bay31.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 268,152 Bay32.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 261,592 Bay33.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 42,516,829 Bcintro.ani 8/03/1998 2:00 28,964 Clogo.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 6,582,784 Credits.ani 8/03/1998 2:00 971,704 Dock0.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 37,476 Gclogo.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 186,276 Loctran1.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 328,040 Loctran2.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 313,216 Loctran3.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 25,172 Logoc.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 301,652 Menutran.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 429,224 Room1.smk 8/03/1998 2:00 229,228 Room2.smk 59,857,174 bytes in 19 files and 2 dirs 59,932,672 bytes allocated Either way, to hack the second part of the CD-ROM check, the files have to match what I have already stated, because thats the names+sizes the source code looks for. I suspect that this file size difference is probably why, without the /d1 param, the code is prompting for the CD-ROM. If you can match the sizes of those two files, you can safely remove the /d1 and the game should not prompt for the CD-ROM, and it won't run in debug mode. At least I don't think it will. Remember, you MUST have a CD-ROM of some type, in the drive, regardless. Also, the home= and cdrom= params in the BC3K.INI file, should be IDENTICAL. They probably WON'T be identical if, say, you downloaded the file to C:MY DOWNLOADS, then installed to C:BC3000AD. In this scenario, you will probably have: home=c:bc3000ad cdrom=c:my downloads And since it won't find those two .ANI files in c:my downloads, it will prompt for the CDROM. So, you should do the following: edit the BC3K.INI so that home= and cdrom=, are identical to your install folder. e.g.home=c:progra~1bc3000ad cdrom=c:progra~1bc3000ad or home=c:bc3000ad cdrom=c:bc3000ad etc ensure that the the file sizes for these files, are as follows:8/03/1998 2:00 1,400,233 3KLOGO.ANI 8/03/1998 2:00 42,516,829 BCINTRO.ANI That you have a CDROM (any kind), in your primary CDROM drive. Now, experiment by removing the /d1 param from the BC3K.BAT and BC3K3DFX.BAT files. If you are not prompted for the CDROM, then you have succeeded. As such, you can play the game in non-debug mode (no artifacts, no AI info in F10 camera view etc) btw, you can also prevent the intro from playing completely, by adding /n to the .BAT files. And if the intro is aborting during playback, then its definitely a corrupt file. I don't think it got corrupt in the download, but probably when Installshield was packing it. And its a 45MB Smacker file, which can't compress any further....and I have NO intentions of uploading it anywhere. So, please don't ask.

BCM Episode 2 demo - What I think
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Game Demo Discussions
Apart from some driver glitches, my Kyro-2 works fine. Those pricks at Hercules have the worst support services on the planet...which is why they died the first time. As such, this is an entry-level dead card, not worth mentioning in my FAQ. Only a complete idiot would develop a card like that, and without core features (e.g. TnL) on-board, and expect to be taken seriously. And only a mis-informed gamer would by a Kyro-II card, when you could just buy a geForce2 or a Radeon 64. Its a DEAD card, Jim! Think of all those dead cards of yesteryear. Then add this one to it. But, thats just me. [ 07-26-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -
As I have written before, the E1 and E2 demos use a different kernel. Also, the bonus mission was designed for the E2 demo. And its data files contain the final sizes for those planets. In the previous E1 kernel, they had the default sizes (smaller).

LOL!!! The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A death. What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, and you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating... you finish off as an orgasm.

OK, whose turn is it to reach out and torch the newbie?

Its nothing to do with file planet, since that file is inside an installer. It could be related to your HDD cluster sizes. If you go into Explorer and checked the file properties, it should say 41,521KB. If you right-click on it and pull up the properties, it will say 42,516,829 bytes, and is dated 8/3/98 time 2.00

Battlecruiser 3000AD v2.09 FREE
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
No, it means just what you see written in the dictionary excerpt above. Its a product from the past. Hence, it is a legacy product. -

Rico, I dunno why your BCINTRO.ANI would be a different size. The file size in BC3K v2.0 and v2.08, is as I indicated above.

Its not a mystery. I don't think I compiled the Windows test version with debug turned on. But try adding /d1 to the shortcut to the bc3kwin.exe or bc3kwin-full.exe files and see if that works. Since I have no plans to touch that source code, here is part of the CD-ROM check. Regardless of whether the path in the INI file points to a valid CD-ROM or a hard drive (as is the case of the free download), it will check for these files and sizes on the CD-ROM (actual CD-ROM or CD-ROM= path stated in the INI file). If it finds them, then you won't be prompted. ANIM3klogo.ani (file size 1400233) ANIMbcintro.ani (file size 42516829) Thats as far as I can remember. So, see if these files are actually present on your hard drive If all else fails, the you can hack into the BC3000AD.GLD (glide version) or BC3000AD.DAT (software version) as well as both Windows .EXE files, and look for those entries above, then remove the check. This will disable this portion of the CD-ROM check and you can run the game in non-debug mode and without the /d1 parameter in the .BAT files. Don't even think of asking me to do it, cuz I won't. If anyone does it, I'd like to know about it, however

BC3K had infra-red night vision using the key I believe. I plan on adding it back in BCM at some point (I clean forgot about that actually, in the new graphics engine)
-
I think he meant that its unsupported. As he indicated, English is not his first language. Give him a break, please. Thanks

My guesses, in order of likelihood: Freespace Starlancer Tachyon : The Fringe Terminus
-
Thanks. Mike and I worked on the colors/templates for a bit today, after I finished restructuring the forums.
-
The DIE (worn by commanders) has a night vision mode. As does the visor for the mobile and elite force marine. There are no flashlights in the game. And I don't plan on adding any.

Apollon, they work only if the shuttle is deployed properly. Snap, its in the manual. Read it.
-
If you LOOK at the demo readme file and the VCF, you will see that it wasn't supported in the kernel used by any of the demos.
-
Yep. The plan was to make it easier this time around, especially the importing of models. However, without actually reading and understanding the docs, you won't get anywhere. So, might as well get acquainted with GBS-1 first.
